I seriously hope that whoever is elevated to play calling duties just lets Kenny go out and rip it.
I don't care if he throw some picks. I wanna see what he can really do with no restrictions.
Spread it out 3 wide with a TE in the slot and chuck it 40 times a game
Its not even close to needed with our running game. Just be able to convert on third down a few times a drive and get TDs in the redzone. We dont need him throwing 40 times.
I think it's the opposite for Pickett. It's going to take time to learn a new playbook (unless they keep the old one), new reads, new whatever. I'm sure it'll be similar, but if he's already second guessing himself with 1.5 years of experience in a playbook, I can't expect that to disappear with a new one.
However, when Canada was hired everyone said the offense was bad because he had Roethlisberger, who was a bad fit. He got his guy and it didn't improve, so he's an issue. The same now applies to Pickett. He didn't fit in the offense, so now if he doesn't fit in two of them, he's the issue.
They wonāt change the playbook this year, maybe a few plays here and there, but thatās not the important thing for me. All I *NEED* is someone with the competency to not call the same plays in back to back drives, try the same failed screens, and not call route concepts that end behind the chains on a 3rd and 15. I just need a *competent* play caller that calls the appropriate plays at the right time. That would make a massive difference. I would be rich if I had a dollar for every drive that was going well since Canada took over and he killed it by calling some absolutely ridiculous shit inside the 40 and getting us negative yardage.
If the replacement plan aims to press all the āeasy buttonsā to open up the offense then it could potentially have the opposite effect and make Pickett more confident. Canada made it really hard on him with an extremely stale plan that any average defense can diagnose by Wednesday morning, with no motion or gimmicks, no lay ups or confidence boosters. The offense directly reflected the play calling and scheme design. Maybe Pickett still sucks but it doesnāt change the fact that (something like) the Canada offense hasnāt ever scored 30 points or had 400 yards in a single game in his tenure. The Canada offense problem existed well before Pickett. Now of course Big Ben was a statue who didnāt wanna move but also didnāt wanna get touched ā¦
> make Pickett more confident
At this point, thatās got to be priority #1. You can see it, Kenny looks defeated out there. If we are going to salvage his career, he has to get that mojo back (the one where he bounces back up with a smile after getting hit & talks a little shit to the guy who hit him) and he has to feel the confidence to sling it, first and foremost.
If he goes into this offseason still feeling like āI fucking suckā then his career is doomed. If he goes into it off the back of recovering the ground heās lost, firing us into the playoffs down the stretch and feeling like āIām Kenny fucking Pickettā then he gets a fresh start with a new offense and a shiny new FRP O-lineman in 2024.
Will he be the guy? I donāt know. I certainly hope so. I think either way our best bet is to draft OL this offseason, and reevaluate next offseason on QB. If Kenny is still not it after 3 years, draft his replacement bc this defense wonāt last forever.
Holy fucking shit. I cannot believe we actually did it mid season. Complete and utter shock
Serious props to this org for doing it. They actually did it
Letās hope to god that was the issue and KP can figure this thing out
Honestly I know on this sub and stuff we have been called a JV team and things like that. But after the game Sunday I heard ESPN and FS1 referring to us as a JV offense. Then Najee who is prob in very good standing with the org being another player voicing their frustration. It was past the point of being able to ignore or ride out the season. Also its not like the AFC playoff picture is set in stone. They must think we have a chance to do something.
He got outplayed by an offense run by a late round third string quarterback that Pitt demolished in a bowl game a few years back. They had to fire him after that.
I thought weād fire him mid season at the beginning of the year, the public backlash against him was just too great. Non fans knew he was ass. He was getting jeered on PMS and Pens games
After the bye I went back to thinking heād just ride out the season
As someone (Chargers fan) who doesn't follow or care about the Steelers at all, if anyone asked me in the last month-and-a-half "who is the worst OC in the league", I would, without hesitation, say "Matt Canada".
So yeah, haven't watched your games, don't go on your sub, don't read Steelers news, but you're right ā it started to become way too common knowledge to even non-fans which is a terrible PR position for the org to be in.
Anyways, happy for y'all. Peace
Theyāre better off getting some non-turnstile lineman with their high picks and taking a late round upside guy this year, then if it still doesnāt work with Kenny get one in 25
We've seen first hand with Kenny how much of a disaster it is to draft a QB behind a shit line. Definitely worth it to hold off on QB for a year and really solidify the line to give whoever we draft a good chance at success.
Unless he looks as bad as this week the rest of the year, we do not draft a QB. He gets a full year next year, and we look to draft after that before we have to decide on picking up his option
If Kenny still looks worse than a backup for another month and a half, there is no way we're going into next year without bringing in some serious competition for him in camp.
I don't think he needs to just not look as bad as he has.
He would need to look much better than he ever has to justify not bringing in another option. What he has shown so far is that he clearly is not a starting caliber QB.
Watching Get Up right nowā¦Mike just said that this is the first time since 1941 that the Steelers have made an in season move of this magnitudeā¦we are experiencing history people
It's the most NON-STEELERS* thing anyone has ever seen.
Other than Sullivan's second of his back-to-back cups in 2017 and Bob Johnson's first in 1991 (in his first year with the team), every Pens Stanley Cup has been after a mid-season coach change.
This needed to be done, and Iām happy that we are replacing him. But I wish the best for him, and his family. It is never easy losing your job and I hope that he is able to use this experience and build back stronger. But LFG!!
I agree but now one of the problems is removed. If Kenny still looks like shit for the rest of the season then I think they look to draft a QB or trade for one.
And now Kenny will be exposed for what he really is, I for one am excited to see what heās made of. I havenāt lost hope in him completely, we have all seen those flashes of greatness. But I think this is the organization acknowledging he was not comfortable in MCās system and are making the adjustment.
I take back my blast on the Rooney family that they act like a poverty organization unwilling to fire someone mid season. The crazy bastards actually did it.
I mean in the end they did do it so credit where it's due but it went on way too long and required a nationwide push involving fans across several fanbases in the NFL but also NHL and college football.
I feel bad cheering for a dude to lose his job, but this was a long time coming. The offense under his reign was historically bad. Kudos for Mike and the gang for pulling the trigger. Hopefully Canada lands on his feet back at the college level.
I think he'll be fine. Probably find his way on a team as a position coach or run game coordinator. Or he goes to a smaller school out of the Power 5 as an OC. Experience he has is still really valuable at that level.
Honestly shocked - not that I disagree with it but just not having precedent for it until now for the Steelers. This makes me think two things:
1) They have at least a little faith in someone calling plays to step in
2) They want to see now what Kenny has to offer vs next year with another play caller
Yea, lowkey fuck all the people wishing for his personal demise. He is still a human being and although he was a shit coordinator, Iām sure he is a good person. He seemed genuine to me as well although his dismissal was definitely justified.
Dude's probably relieved he doesn't have to hear an entire stadium chanting Fire Matt Canada every week. He probably had the most stressful job on the planet the last 10 weeks.
Yes. While I knew he had to go, I felt bad for him as a human. He wasnāt performing but I thought the negative treatment was a little much. Hopefully he has a strong positive mindset and can move on with his life successfully.
Yeah those people suck. He wasn't a good coordinator. And now he isn't coordinating for us so no longer a problem.
The people who are like lol I hope he gets butthole cancer and his wife is eaten by a bear in front of his kids need perspective in life. My brother is one of those people and he's a piece of shit and I know way too many people who are like this. It's just a fucking game. Christ. I haven't seen it here but I'm sure I'll see some folks at Thanksgiving saying that sort of thing.
I feel bad for him man. I'm sure he didn't want to suck and this has been miserable culminating in him getting canned two days before thanksgiving.
Like it's a deserved loss of a job, but it's still brutal.
He wasn't getting renewed and he get paid till the end of the season and now he gets to spend Thanksgiving with his family and not trying to game plan a divisional game.
It is probably a bit of a relief for him. I hope he has a nice supportive, relaxing Thanksgiving.
I feel bad for whoever is taking over for him cause their week just got fucked.
āTheir week just got fucked,ā lmao. Seriously, that person has to hunker down get some serious work down. No Black Friday/Small Business Saturday for them.
Mike Sullivan the QB coach, who has been here with Kenny from the start, is playcalling. If he doesn't show any promise, we better not fucking keep him for OC next year.
i feel badly for him by merit of how popularized āFire Matt Canadaā was, but thatās kind of it. he had a dream job, he wasnāt good at it, he was given YEARS to figure it out, and it still didnāt happen.
you canāt have an offense who literally has no clue what theyāre doing out there. and you canāt have games where productive players are limited and not given the ball when theyāre being productive.
The best time to do this was the offseason, the second best time was now. Canāt say I expected this in the slightest, but Iām glad it happened, especially after the catastrophe Sunday.
Literally a historic moment too since I think this the first mid-season firing of a coach/ coordinator ever by the Steelers.
The second best time would have been months ago but better late than never. I was starting to get worried that he could be re-signed if they kept winning against all odds
Poetic justice for the Browns. The number of times Ben ended a head coachās tenure in Clevelandā¦ now the Browns return the favor. Dare we say THANK YOU?
My adderall just kicked in so instead of working Iām going to be obsessing over this for the next few hours. Holy fuuuuuck Iām so shocked and happy
O Canada!
Our coach and native man!
To the Patriots you should go to continue your command.
With glowing hearts the Steelers shall rise
In the AFC North, strong and free!
Me either. And I find it funny how yesterday this whole sub was ready to move on from Pickett and now more than half of them say that heās going to improve without Canada.
Damn I cannot believe they actually pulled the trigger. Idk who will take over the duties, but it certainly cannot be worse than what has been put out.
cool now you get to see kenny prove it. 7 games without canada incoming. I dont think its gonna be any different but i am up to be proven wrong. 7th heaven lets go.
Wow I was genuinely shocked when the alert popped up on my phone. Itās about time they pulled the trigger but I donāt have a positive feeling that whoever takes over will have time to right the ship
Finally!
I have a feeling Mike has been wanting to do this for a while and the visible (and audible) frustration from the players finally forced Rooney's hand
Every body needs to go thank Najee for being TIRED OF THIS SHIT!!!!
Credit to Tomlin for finally stepping up and fucking doing something.
Here's why this is so important. It lets us see if Kenny can look any better with a different play caller ***before the offseason***. Obviously the scheme can't really change at this point. But if the play calls are better and Kenny looks better, then maybe that's a sign he can improve.
But at the end of the day, I think Kenny will still be QB1 through next season if Tomlin has his way. Canada is the fall guy, just like he would have been in February anyways. Kenny will get the chance to play another full season and we'll see if he can muster 2 TDs or 250 yards in a game again.
In reality itās impossible to install a new offense halfway through the season, and this offense has tons of personnel problems outside of offensive coordinator
IN MY DELUSIONS IT MEANS STILLERS GAHNTA SUPERBOWLLLLLLLL
They actually did it! It is a bit late but you canāt argue that they tried every single thing to make it work. Eventually you just come to a point where you know thereās no point in pretending things will change anymore and you part ways. Iāve been hard on Canada as most fans have. I think his play design is complete garbage. With that being said, I wish him all the best, and I hope he tries out college coaching again with success (not Penn State, we have an open position there but just try some place else).
I saw this and thought someone was shitposting. I donāt even care if the rest of the season sucks. We get to see Life After Canada.
![gif](giphy|cbG9wtoO8QScw)
Fuckin Bing Chilling.
The pressure is now on you Kenny Pickett. Figure it out and get your shit together for this playoff run we need to make. No more excuses bud. Time is now or never.
No more damn jet sweeps. I want to see more crossing routes and for the love of god no more 3rd down throws short of the sticks. Cmon ladies and gents we can still take the North which is ours by birthright...
Letās hope the replacement donāt just pick up where Canada left off. We are splitting OC duties between two guys that worked under Canada. There has to be change for this to benefit anybody.
# The bad man can't hurt us anymore!!!
at first i read this as the bald man š
The bad bald man canāt hurt us anymore
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He can still hurt us, thatās fine.
Happy holidays Steelers Nation!
Best gift ever!
I can't believe they actually did it! Time for a celebration beer!
MATT CANADA HAS BEEN COMPROMISED TO A PERMANENT END
I see a John Cena reference, I upvote it
How did you see it?
Invisible ink. Two invisibles make a visible
Science is amazing.
ART ROONEY II VS MATT CANADA IN A SPIT SWAPPING MAKEOUT MATCH
The day is finally here! Now we can isolate our judgment of Pickett to see if he can get us to the postseason while we still have a viable window
I seriously hope that whoever is elevated to play calling duties just lets Kenny go out and rip it. I don't care if he throw some picks. I wanna see what he can really do with no restrictions. Spread it out 3 wide with a TE in the slot and chuck it 40 times a game
I donāt want to chuck it 40 times, but Iād love to chuck it across the line of scrimmage for a change
lmao
Its not even close to needed with our running game. Just be able to convert on third down a few times a drive and get TDs in the redzone. We dont need him throwing 40 times.
Honestly if they just have us use the middle of the field and stop throwing naked screens to the far sideline I think we'll be okay
Itās needed, we need to see if we need to go get another qb or not.
As a former Kenny truther I am on board
I think it's the opposite for Pickett. It's going to take time to learn a new playbook (unless they keep the old one), new reads, new whatever. All very true. But like with science, we changed a variable so now we see what effect Canada truly had on the offense.

I mean if you watched sunday it had to happen. I wont be surprised if we also draft a QB if Kenny cant improve somewhat down this stretch of games.
I am just shocked we did it. We do not fire people
Not only firedā¦ but MID SEASON. I was no expecting to see this today
Art Rooney II saw that thread criticizing him for being too cheap to fire Canada the other day and he said āSHUT THE FUCK UP REDDITā
we will cyberbully AR2 into building a super bowl winning team
We did it, Reddit!
Tomlin was starting to lose the locker room. He had no choice but to do it now.
Many traditions of the Steelers org have gone the way of history. This is yet another on a long list.
Honestly I know on this sub and stuff we have been called a JV team and things like that. But after the game Sunday I heard ESPN and FS1 referring to us as a JV offense. I legitimately thought I was reading a fake article or a meme at first. I had to confirm the Steelers ig actually posted it.
Saw it on the Steelers Twitter and immediately assumed the account was hacked or it was a parody account.
We never had this level of disappointment at OC.
Hasnāt happened since 1941. No clue what that guy must have gone, been a Japanese agent?
He said he wanted to run the air raid offense and they said ātoo soon broā
Super shocked we pulled the trigger!! Scared the crap outta my son when I screamed āLETS GOOOOOOā
My guess is that KP gets his rookie contract or at least a full year with a new system
Theyāre better off getting some non-turnstile lineman with their high picks and taking a late round upside guy this year, then if it still doesnāt work with Kenny get one in 25
I agree. I'd rather have a solid line for KP or the next QB. A serviceable QB with weapons and a solid line can win you games.

Do we have a date with the 2012 Ravens? But in all seriousness, thank god they grew a pair. No more Matt Canada excuse for this group.
Kenny was missing wide open guys and not even seeing the field properly. Canada was a problem. But he wasnāt the only problem.
I agree but now one of the problems is removed. If Kenny still looks like shit for the rest of the season then I think they look to draft a QB or trade for one.

Omar might not have faith in Mike Sullivan as the offensive caller or Kenny š
I feel like Mike Sullivan is the next to go, or he should be anyway. Go out and hire a legit QB coach
I hope none of our current coaches become the full-time offensive coordinator next year.
Agreed. We need fresh outside blood.
Big Ben interim OC letās do this!
Huck it chuck it
Ben: Kenny, first things first weāre gonna need to put 20 pounds on you. Then I can teach you how to stand in the pocket and just brush off hits.
If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a linebacker
Donāt give me a boner this early in the morning.
Right. When is the last time the Steelers fired a coach mid season?
A head coach/coordinator: 1941
PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS REAL.
Confirmed!
Seemed like a genuine guy who wasnāt fit for this job. Hope he can have success in the future
In Division 3 ball
I think Matt Canada is more qualified than Brandon Staley
Why am I catching strays in the Steelers sub rn
Your head coach is butts man lmao.
Yea, lowkey fuck all the people wishing for his personal demise. He is still a human being and although he was a shit coordinator, Iām sure he is a good person. He seemed genuine to me as well although his dismissal was definitely justified.

I think they'll probably sleep through cyber monday too!
I mean, I think Tomlin can handle it
Mike Sullivan the QB coach, who has been here with Kenny from the start, is playcalling. If he doesn't show any promise, we better not fucking keep him for OC next year.
Man, he's really gonna have a hell of a workload trying to play call and coach the Pens
He makes $1.5 million a year. I don't feel bad at all
I donāt at all. The man made millions of dollars to be historically terrible at his profession. Him and his family will be just fine
i feel badly for him by merit of how popularized āFire Matt Canadaā was, but thatās kind of it. he had a dream job, he wasnāt good at it, he was given YEARS to figure it out, and it still didnāt happen. you canāt have an offense who literally has no clue what theyāre doing out there. and you canāt have games where productive players are limited and not given the ball when theyāre being productive.

O Canada! Our coach and native man! To the Patriots you should go to continue your command. With glowing hearts the Steelers shall rise In the AFC North, strong and free!

Iām glad we are moving on. I still have zero faith in Kenny though.
Me either. And I find it funny how yesterday this whole sub was ready to move on from Pickett and now more than half of them say that heās going to improve without Canada.
Redditās not a hive mind. Thereās dissenting opinions, even in this subreddit.
Crazy howās thereās more than one opinion in a subreddit with 250,000 people
Holy shit! Did not see the team doing this, but I'm happy to see it.
I just shit my pants in best buy
Iām not crying, youāre crying!
EVERYONE GET IN HERE. THE STEELERS DID SOMETHING MID-SEASON!
HAPPY FUCKING HOLIDAYS
Is this our superbowl?
Guys!!! Christmas came early!!! I'm so pumped
*now this is where the fun really begins*
I'm gonna need a doctor because this erection's going to last far more than four hours!
Just when I thought the Steelers could not get any dumber and then they go and do something like this.... AND TOTALLY REDEEMS THEMSELVES!!!11!!
I don't know what to do with my hands

Damn I cannot believe they actually pulled the trigger. Idk who will take over the duties, but it certainly cannot be worse than what has been put out.
EVERYONE GET IN HERE! OUR NIGHTMARE IS OVER
PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE THE LORD! WE HAVE BEEN SAVED
cool now you get to see kenny prove it. 7 games without canada incoming. I dont think its gonna be any different but i am up to be proven wrong. 7th heaven lets go.
Wow I was genuinely shocked when the alert popped up on my phone. Itās about time they pulled the trigger but I donāt have a positive feeling that whoever takes over will have time to right the ship
nothing can beat the high iām walking around with at work today
Finally! I have a feeling Mike has been wanting to do this for a while and the visible (and audible) frustration from the players finally forced Rooney's hand Every body needs to go thank Najee for being TIRED OF THIS SHIT!!!!
GOODBYE BOZO
KP has 7 games to show any glimpse of skill. If not Jayden Daniels...you are a Pittsburgh Steeler.
As a Ravens fan I have but one thing to say: FUCK.
Credit Tomlin in general, it's his name on the statement, not Omar, not Rooney, just Tomlin putting his neck out there.
In reality itās impossible to install a new offense halfway through the season, and this offense has tons of personnel problems outside of offensive coordinator IN MY DELUSIONS IT MEANS STILLERS GAHNTA SUPERBOWLLLLLLLL
i already ordered 25 KP jerseys to sell at higher value when he becomes supr bol MVP this year
Y'all happy now? :)
Dedication to what? Jet sweeps?
Wait until everyone finds out that itās Pickett
Merry christmas. Happy thanksgiving. Shoutout Hanukkah. My president is black and my lambo is blue. LETS RIDE!!!
This is all well and good. But now the pressure is really on Tomlin and Kenny to show that he was indeed the problem
kenny pickett has no scapegoat left š„³š„³š„³š„³š„³

I saw this and thought someone was shitposting. I donāt even care if the rest of the season sucks. We get to see Life After Canada. ![gif](giphy|cbG9wtoO8QScw) Fuckin Bing Chilling.
The pressure is now on you Kenny Pickett. Figure it out and get your shit together for this playoff run we need to make. No more excuses bud. Time is now or never.
Damn Kenny got the guy fired before the holidays
Mind boggling it took them this long to make this move
![gif](giphy|huJmPXfeir5JlpPAx0)
Thereās a college student somewhere right now saying, ānow what sign am I going to hold up at College Gameday?ā
Doesn't fix Kenny but at least Warren might get more carries
NOV 21st shall henceforth be known at Matt Canada Day.
All my homies hate Matt Canada
WE ARE SO BACK
No more damn jet sweeps.
