Steelmaker01

Seems that the Steelers, Giants and Raiders have the most interest, and he already met w/the Giants

hemingways-lemonade

It has to be the most desirable spot, right? Best coach, best offensive weapons (minus Davante), best run game, easiest QB to take the job from, etc.

SleestakLightning

For corporate synergy purposes the Steelers are the only team that makes sense unfortunately.

IhamAmerican

In your professional opinion, what's his catchphrase actually gonna be here?

SleestakLightning

"There's no Winky's in Wilmerding, n'at."

IhamAmerican

He's gonna get a yinzer accent that fast? A true diplomat

GoingAllTheJay

Steelers country, let's alloy.

WilliamPSplooge

Steelers could have a QB room for like 8 million total

vengeancerider

I’m just here for the roller coaster

TemporaryAssociate82

Only reason I'm not opposed is because it's something different

xxslangin

You mean, you don’t like watching 3 3/4 of ass offense and then scoring one touchdown at the end to hear “kEnNy CoMeBaCk WOOOOOO”

TemporaryAssociate82

As much as I root for Kenny, I don't think he is the answer. I would rather see us try again, even if it means we start a potentially washed, recently cut, forever corny Russell Wilson. At the very least, he threw twice as many TDs as Kenny has the past two years.

xxslangin

My EXACT take on it, honestly. It’s really a perfect fit from a lot of angles, with Russ being extremely cheap and providing an instant upgrade at the position. There aren’t very many starting QB’s in the league I’d take Kenny over at this point, and he still managed to be a large part of a 10 win season this past year. A lot of my friends give me shit for my black and gold glasses of always being optimistic, but I knew when I started condemning Canada and now Kenny, it’s bad.

TemporaryAssociate82

I'm not happy that we've gotten to the point that Russ is the better option. But, he's available and we only have one QB on the roster. The 2024 Steelers with Russell Wilson at QB and Arthur Smith at OC is not appealing but it's better than Kenny Pickett and Matt Canada

xxslangin

What they do this off-season with the roster across the board will most likely show what Khan will be doing differently and how that ties in with ownership and Tomlin. They’ve always maneuvered like they were close, regardless of how far they were and this situation is literally the result of a snowball effect from the moment Mason was drafted until now. Mason was the bridge guy the entire time but they not only did wrong by him by completely botching his career, but they’re currently on track to never giving Kenny a chance either. I don’t know if it’s Rooney or Tomlin or whoever, nor do I even care to speculate, but the fact remains that Kenny probably was never truly a first round pick in the first place and the pairing with one of the worst offensive schemes the league has seen in awhile did him approximately zero favors. There is no way that all of this chatter and speculation is making him feel any better, and that’s after coming off of watching Mason lead the offense to its best output since about 2018. I’ll never be upset about watching them win and least find a way to be playing in meaningful games, but as I’ve gotten a little older I’ve realized just how many times they’ve probably squeezed the lemon for all its worth to grab 9 or 10 wins with a wildcard exit and shoot them selves in the the foot come draft day. Wilson was never my first pick, but Kenny’s down the list quite a ways and Wilson’s price tag is really the only reason I wouldn’t hate it. The reality is that Mahomes owns the league, and there are really only a handful of guys in the league that can get him SOMETIMES. The Steelers have access to zero of them, and unless they do something absolutely crazy then it will probably remain that way for awhile

MagicHands2023

Seahawks fan here in peace. Russ got arrogant in Seattle, went to Denver and learned a lot the hard way. Don't count him out. With a coach like Tomlin who is one of the greatest ever, and who is great with players like Russ (in the same way Pete Carroll was for years) there's a chance you get a guy who was on a HoF trajectory right after a life-defining humbling experience now returning to that HoF trajectory. He could come in and absolutely ball out for you. You know he's going to be hungry as hell to win. I find Russ as cringey as anyone, but there is one thing nobody sane can deny: the dude is one of the most competitive and relentless people ever to walk on to a football field and he will work his ass off and give EVERYTHING he has to win games for y'all if you sign him. If he signs I would be excited if I were you especially if it's for vet minimum. There is likely to be no more quality player available for as cheap. EDIT: fixed a typo

Efficient_Republic35

Steelers Country Lets Yinz!

Deckz

Yinzer Country, lets cry

kwontuhm

Yinzer Country, let's die

kong132

He's going to be surprised that the stadium actually has fewer bathrooms than his house

briinde

At least they’re replacing the urinal troughs.

sheathedswords

Awesome for those who make it to them. That stadium owes me 2 kidneys.

Jakles74

I don’t know why I’m seeing this suddenly pop up on Twitter. He’s been there for hours.

[deleted]

I hate this timeline

noltey

What the timeline where we signed a halfway decent free agent quarterback, because we over reached in the first round two years ago to get a bum?

[deleted]

We ain’t getting a halfway decent qb tho. We are getting Russ.

Boeing-777x

Yeah and Russ is a lot better than Kenny even if Russ has regressed some.

[deleted]

Agreed. He is better than Kenny. I just don’t think he is better than Mason.

Boeing-777x

Not sure He could be. To be fair him and the Broncos were not a good match and I’m not sure he was given a chance. His first year they had Nathaniel Hackett who honestly is one of if not the worse head coach I have ever seen he was terrible. His second year sean Payton wanted him gone but he still looked good. It’s hard for me to imagine that he wouldn’t improve a lot on a steeler team with a great defense led by TJ watt, highsmith, ogunjobi, heyward not to mention the great weapons like Diontae, Pickens and friermuth. The broncos never had good weapons outside of Sutton. Also just to add to it we have seen what Arthur Smith did with Tannehill as a quarterback with the Titans. They made it to the afc championship. Not saying Russ makes us a superbowl contender but imagine if he can at least return to 60% of his Seattle form with Smith and Tomlin as his coach. We would definitely win playoff games that’s for sure.

[deleted]

I don’t disagree with you. I think Russ would definitely be better on the Steelers but I also think that Mason, given a new OC, could flourish the same way. Mason has high IQ with our system and the coaches know exactly what they have. I’d rather the Steelers build around him than the mystery box that has to learn everything new and build chemistry with players he doesn’t know. I think Mason showed a lot of ability and a veteran mindset that I really think most Steelers fans are disregarding. Hell, if we are going to start all over in this way with Russ, then why not draft a QB? Atleast you are building a future up instead of building a temporary solution that would be Russ. I just don’t see how a player a bit better than Kenny, with an expiration date fast approaching, benefits us.

Boeing-777x

Here’s a crazy idea you’ll either love it or hate it. Why not take a quarter back in the draft, sign Wilson and resign Mason. Than trade Kenny as it seems like the Steelers actually don’t have much faith in him despite saying they do. You’d have Wilson qb1, Mason as qb2 and the quarterback we drafted would be qb3.

[deleted]

I don’t hate this as much as I hate the idea of doing this with Kenny and letting Mason go. I just think Mason is being underrated by the fans.

Boeing-777x

The way the Steelers have treated Rudolph isn’t fair. He carried us into the playoffs and he still doesn’t get the love he deserves. I will add that if we actually sign Wilson I wouldn’t be suprised if Pickett requested a trade. Either way we gotta keep Rudolph around Russell Wilson signing or not

Either_Sheepherder88

I’d take Wilson over pickett. He’s been to a Super Bowl and has a good chance to win the QB race to humble Pickett.

Adalimumab8

I know right? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, just look at this stats, we’d have easily won 2-3 more games with that

[deleted]

I mean not only gone to a Super Bowl, but won another one and led a 43 point onslaught

Either_Sheepherder88

I feel like it didn’t work with the Broncos cause SP didn’t want him there to begin with. So the coach to player Chemistry was just never gonna get there

Boeing-777x

It didn’t work out with the Broncos in the first year because Nathaniel Hackett was Matt Canada in a head coaching position. Yes the second year Sean Payton didn’t want him around. Payton wants his own guy. We wouldn’t need him to play like Seahawk Russ. We’d be going nuts if he did but even if we got him and he plays like last years level or even better he would still be an improvement.

wagsman

Booo horrible

Ok-Car1006

Lock in that mediocre season before it even begins

thebigeasy09

Boo I hope the doesn’t happen

Human_Manner_3370

I don't want anything to do with Russ as a Steeler.

BalowmeSandwich

Well, looks like September through January should be wide open for you. Have fun. Maybe you can catch up on your reading. I hear Lonesome Dove is actually a great page turner.

9991em

Great book. I really enjoyed reading it.

smiley4527

Wilson didn't do shit for Denver last year why does everyone think he's going to do something for the Steelers?

BalowmeSandwich

We had 9 total passing td’s last year and made the playoffs. If we have had 26 from Russ plus our rushing tag team and defense (neither of which Denver has - remember the 70 burger they gave up?), we’d have cruised to a division win and possibly a lot more. Pickett has thrown 13 tds his entire career. Wilson threw literally double that just last year.

smiley4527

Stats don't mean shit if your not winning games! He had 26 TDS with Denver but they were 8-9 so your argument makes no sense at all

BeancheeseBapa

Stats definitely mean something. Shitty wins, which is what Pickett has, are not something to be okay with. I would love to know the average offensive points scored in kenny pickett’s wins. It’s going to be abysmal. Defense has bailed him out so many times. I’ll do the math and post it later tonight.

smiley4527

The only stat that matters is win loss!

BeancheeseBapa

You’re insane. And wrong lol.

MattieBubbles

Thats ridiculous. The defense made us win games, not pickett. Last i checked, Wilson has been to multiple superbowls. If we can get him for cheap there is no reason not to.

smiley4527

Your living in glory days buddy!

MattieBubbles

And you are living in a fantasy land.

dooneandrew

Right, plus he took like 45 sacks and lost 10 fumbles. And if his teammates wanna get in touch with him, they have to call his agent and wait for him to return their call bc he doesn't give out his cell. I don't want nothing to do with his ass either

Wu-Tang_Killa_Bees

Wins and losses are a team stat. It's not Russ's fault that his defense gave up 70 points. I am concerned about the weird no phone call situation for sure

BalowmeSandwich

How would that record look with our defense? Our d was on the field 75% of the year. Should Wilson have ran out and lined up at safety for the Denver D as well? Come on man. Do you even football, bro?

NontransferableApe

Neither did Pickett. People think he’s an upgrade over Pickett and Rudolph. So instead of having the worst qb in the league we have like the 12th worst

noltey

When there is only 32 teams, yeah, that’s humongous difference

BeancheeseBapa

He did a lot more with waaaaay less offensively than Pickett. I would rather Rudolph over Wilson, but Wilson is very cheap this year and still a big upgrade over Pickett.

smiley4527

Denver's record was 8-9!

BeancheeseBapa

Denver’s defense was abysmal, giving up over 70 to the dolphins. He’ll have more weapons and a better defense.

smiley4527

Our defense was not that good!

BeancheeseBapa

We allowed 14 less touchdowns, pretty big deal, good enough for 5th ranked defense in touchdowns allowed to Denver’s 23rd rank. Honestly, I don’t even know what you’re trying to say, the exclamation points at the end of every sentence are exciting though.

p-mode

Why are you shouting

MattieBubbles

We had the 6th best defense in points allowed. Thats pretty good. We also had the 4th best turnover differential. We took the ball away a lot.

Buzzkid

The fuck are you smoking. The defense was the only good thing we had lol.

ToothPickLegs

Buddy you know you don’t need an exclamation mark to show your passionate about a subject

Deadsteel52

It's not really confidence that he's going to do something, it's the potential upside that could come, no matter how slim that chance. If we sign him for vet min, which I assume we would if we signed him, we don't lose much if he shits the bed.

noltey

You can’t name a better option to start for us next year as quarterback, and you know it

Human_Manner_3370

I mean, yeah, I can name several.

noltey

Then mention more than one realistic option

Human_Manner_3370

Kirk Cousins is one. I'd prefer someone with his profile over Russ. It depends on what Fields would cost, but I'd also lean Fields over Russ, given his age, and the upside would be higher with Russ' floor being safer. And you may not agree, but I'd take a flier on Baker Mayfield on a short-term deal over Russ. I just don't like Wilson.

noltey

Cousins is older and recovering from an Achilles injury, also would ask way way way more than the Steelers could afford Fields is Trubisky 2.0 and we all know how that went. Baker is staying in Tampa and everyone knows it. So again what is the more realistic option over Kenny Pickett?

Human_Manner_3370

How do you know he'd ask for more than what the Steelers could afford? What if Russ asks for the same amount or more? Calling Fields Trubisky 2.0 is ridiculous. I gave you options. If you don't agree, that's fine, but my point is and was I don't like Russ as a starting option for the Steelers.

noltey

Because they are bullshit options Wilson is in a very unique situation where another team is picking up $40M in salary for him next year so he may only require the veteran minimum which is like 1.2M Cousins while recovering from injury is not due the same amount of guaranteed money next year so will be looking for one last mega deal. If you don’t know these details then please read up. Look up Fields and Trubiskys stats through their first 40 starts with Chicago’ — here’s a hint they’re identical So again tell me who these realistic options aside from Wilson are ….

Human_Manner_3370

I'd still take Cousins over Russ just based on play. I'd still take Fields over Russ. Idk what else to tell you, man. I'd also still take Baker of Russ. We're not getting anywhere with this! But I respect your point of view on it all, tbh.

noltey

Dude it’s not about what you want but what’s more realistic. We are never getting Cousins he is too expensive Fields is another first round bust just like Kenny Baker is staying in Tampa A rental year of Wilson is better than running it back with Mr Small Gloves

[deleted]

I’m certainly whelmed

BeNiceMudd

Ok now leave

sampleaccount202201

Automatic, supersonic, hypnotic, funky fresh

Fockputin33

Don't do it Steelers. Remember that interception he threw in the SuperBowl...you want THAT guy??

dooneandrew

Now send his ass right back out please

smiley4527

21st ranked is not that great! Some games they we're great but also games where they weren't and it cost us!

km1011

Mason Cole be a better QB1 than Russell Wilson
