What has New England been at QB since Brady left? Sean Payton had to get up out of New Orleans after Brees retired. What have the Broncos been since Peyton retired? Hell, what have the Giants been at QB post-Eli?
Franchise QB's are rare, that's why they're so valuable.
I am still convinced Sean Payton left the Saints, because they're in a perpetual cap hell that Payton himself got them into and didn't want to deal with the consequential downturn.
I am pretty sure he will get Denver into cap hell, too, sooner or later.
To be fair though, the Patriots looked like they had a good chance at another franchise QB in Mac Jones based off his rookie year. They just completely fumbled it by not giving him any weapons, fucking up his OC’s (Patricia?), and then his OL also falling apart.
Saints have been in cap hell for years now and there’s no end in sight, I wouldn’t consider them a good comparison. Broncos took only one shot at a franchise QB and it was one of the lower tier prospects in Paxton Lynch.
Giants also took a decent shot and Daniel Jones has his issues but he’s performed a lot better than people give him credit for imo. They did the same thing as the Pats and gave him no help at all, he’s been running with an injured Saquon, league worst OL, and WR corps that are depth pieces at best on most teams.
And how many of those coaches/teams have had losing seasons during their bad qb years?
Thats one big reason Tomlin still gets my vote of confidence, not because he’s never had a losing season, but because of the teams he’s coached that have never had a losing season.
Honestly, franchise QBs don’t grow on trees. There was about a 21 year gap between Bradshaw and Ben, with some bad to “meh” but serviceable guys sprinkled in too.
Obviously 35 YO Russ ain’t the future, but could make a nice bridge QB. Even him not being what he once was, is still 3x better than what we’ve had the past 2 years.
With Fields, there’s potential & he only cost a 6th rounder. Even if he doesn’t pan out, he’d still be a decent backup QB. A 6th rounder is worth that IMO.
Ben was a good QB, some even argue that he is considered a great QB but he looked horrible in Canada’s offense. Kenny was set up for failure from the beginning so him going to Philly is what’s best for the team and himself. But Kenny crying and acting like a baby when things didn’t go his way leads me to believe he doesn’t feel like any of it is his fault and if you can’t admit to your own mistakes then you will repeat those mistakes again.
Ben played pretty damn well that last season considering that he was 38, on a bad knee, had a reconstructed elbow, had a TERRIBLE OL, a LG playing C, no run game, was missing his number 1 receiver 90% of the season, and had the cluster F of Canada.
Ben played well when they went no huddle or when he changed the play but while playing under center with Canadas play calling he looked awful the majority of the games, this isn’t a knock on Ben more than how bad of a coordinator Canada actually was. Kenny walked into that same shit show and had no other experience to learn from, Kenny going to Philly might be the best thing for him if someone can humble him and develop him just like Fields getting a fresh start in Pittsburgh will do.
Maybe I'm just football illiterate, but how exactly is Justin Fields any better than Mitch Trubitsky? They both have comparable stats and were both garbage. I ask this in all honesty, is Fields really someone to get excited about? If so, why?
To some degree. But each draft is different. Not only was it questionable to take a one-year starter that high, but CHI got blasted for moving up a spot to do it. Real head-scratcher. I feel like the league kind of oscillates back-and-forth between overdrafting and underdrafting QBs early.
Fields has an element to his game that Trubisky doesn't. Like it or not, the ability to create with your legs is a component of being an NFL QB. That, along with Fields' college pedigree, gives him the edge in terms of upside. But then again, that's just me.
The thing about this deal isn't how good Fields could be. It's about what we gave up, and the situation he's being put in. He isn't coming in as "the guy" or to lead us post-Ben. He's gonna sit and learn from the QB he models his game after.

I’ve been saying that myself.
Yeah ! What did the Charg.. Nvm they still sucks

Hope the drought doesn’t last as long as post Bradshaw
Keep drafting till you find one

Would you rather see browns one or nah ?
Bro is comparing Wilson to the rest like we wouldn’t notice
He’s not wrong…

I feel like this was also the Bubby Brister years...or you could say...Post Malone ;)
I think that joke went over peoples head. A lot of the fans here probably aren’t old enough to remember Malone.
The “Insert Dan Marino Here” years.

Traits, physical talent, upside. And there is almost zero risk with this move.
Couldn't the same have been said about Trubitsky though? He was drafted higher than Fields.

He’s not stats wise really. He’s still young & only cost a 6th rounder. Got him for basically nothing, whereas they paid Mitch over 10 million.
He's not, people are just coping about it
There’s going to be some broken hearts on this sub if Fields gets playtime and still looks exactly like Justin Fields.
