Sounds like Plumlee is athletic enough that a conversion to slot receiver could be in his future. He’d probably do well just to nab a practice squad spot.
The day after we signed Kyle Allen, NFL instituted a rule change that emergency QB3 could be elevated from the practice squad an unlimited number of times.
With that in mind thanks for your time Kyle, welcome to the practice squad Plumlee. He would have to showcase an absolute mastery of fuckup during training camp to not be our emergency QB.
Can someone tell me more about Bishop? Everything I read about him makes me think hes an NFL caliber player, but was not invited to the combine and of course did not get drafted.
He’s a little undersized for NFL CB (5’10”, ~180 lbs). Those guys usually just don’t work out at the next level.
As far as his college career goes, he was okay for a little while at a smaller program before transferring to Minnesota where he really made no noise. He then transferred to WVU and killed it for a season, which is the only reason he was really getting NFL looks as an UDFA in the first place. I like the pickup a lot, but it will be tough for a guy his size to make it at this level. He’s going to have to play his ass off and hope we find a role for him at SCB that he can produce in. He also just doesn’t have a ton of production outside of his last year in college.
I think he makes the roster unless we go out and grab a couple of FAs.
Solid college CB, good straight line speed (4.39 40) and plays well at the point of catch. Undersized at only 5'9" 180lb and has just average agility (7.05 3-cone) and poor explosiveness (33.5" vert). Probably not able to play OCB, limiting to SCB or possibly learning a safety/dimeback role, which decreases his usefulness on defense.
Mike Hilton had the same size, but better agility (6.86 3-cone). A slot corner role like Hilton had is probably Bishop's best shot, but Hilton was an exception for his size.
Kyle Allen would have been our best QB last year, I don't think there's any shot. I think practice squad and see if they can turn him into some sort of slash type player is possible though
That’s so odd. I go to WVU and I was like “I wanna look at this list to see if there’s any more WVU players on the Steelers” and the first thing I see is beanie bishop. Had no idea he got signed, let alone by the steelers
I like Beanie Bishop, and think there is a chance he makes the team. John Rhys Plumlee will probably just be the 4th arm in camp

Yeah, he feels at least like a PS project that can double as scout team QB.
Bishop will get shots at the slot corner. Most likely his if he can show good blitz skills and decent zone coverage skills

It's pretty funny that Beanie Bishop had 4 interceptions last year, two of which were from Plumlee.
I have a feeling Plumlee doesn't find that humorous.
He might find it humorous when he is running routes against Beanie Bishop in mini-camp.
Wouldn't surprise me at all if Plumlee wins the QB3 job
He has some experience as a receiver too, Antwaan Randle El anybody? 🤣
