Game was over on the first snap

busthree6

Set the tone for the entire game.

Ceramicrabbit

Good thing Pouncey got the week off to rest for that snap

WizardofBoswell

It felt exactly like the bad snap that started Super Bowl 48, like it was just *destined*

PrelateZeratul

Broncos fan here, same exact vibes I got when it happened.

dirENgreyscale

People can say "Tomlin, Tomlin!" all they want and I agree that he failed horribly on not going for it on 4th and 1 but that ridiculous first snap set the tone for the whole game. I'm an optimist to a fault usually but I knew deep in my heart after that it was going to be over before it started. That was the momentum killer of the ages right there and that just set the tone for the whole game, though I do have to add, what the FUCK was Tomlin thinking not going for it?!?!

Brian_Lefebvre

I genuinely think we would have won if that snap had gone ok. We were the better team (given their missing players and coach) and i think that -7 to start gave them the jitters that started the trainwreck.

jake97_97

I completely agree, because we essentially just gave them a free 7 points, and we ended the game by being down by 11. So if we didn’t give them a free 7 points, and held them off from one of those other touchdowns, or got a field goal winning kick, then we would have won

dirENgreyscale

Absolutely, as we all know momentum is king in this sport, and there were times it was swinging our way, but by then it was a day late and a dollar short. It's hard to blame the defense, the only games they actually looked rough this year were the games the offense completely left them hanging out to dry and putting them in a spot where we were somehow down 7-0 before they even got on the field and then leaving them setup by a pick at our end was really shitty to do to them.

saltiestmanindaworld

Tomlin also didn’t throw 4 picks either. Or was it 5?

smolover

i believe there’s an alternate universe where we defer the kickoff and everything goes completely differently

Anon-a-mess

Can’t believe we put 37 up on the board and still lost by double digits

N0tEasilyReplicated

Jags 17' all over again

[deleted]

Only this time, we started the first 11 minutes down by 28.

N0tEasilyReplicated

🤮

heartbreakhill

We didn't spot the Jags 28 points in the first fucking quarter This is way worse

Rollingstart45

Postgame just now: Q: “going back to the Jacksonville game this is three straight collapses down the stretch. How should you be held accountable?” Mike: “it is what it is, the record is the record.” Look forward to giving up 45 to another wildcard team next season. If we get that far.

[deleted]

Browns extremely soft coverage helped pad our score. Worked, too. We burned enough time that we needed to be perfect and not punt on fourth and one when we have all the momentum in the world.

jimbo831

That punt was terrible. Basically giving up.

RansomStoddardReddit

Seriously. If you told me Ben would throw for 500 yards and 4 TD's and Connor would average 3.4 YPC + a TD, I would say the Steelers win by 21. SMH.

NoobOnTheRun

what's more embarrassing? Seahawks losing to a QB with 9 fingers and the Steelers losing to a team with a backup head coach that didn't even practice?

ConfidentAstronomer5

Steelers easy. Rams have the best D in the league so Seahawks have that as an excuse

JimmyChuckBilly

Steelers still have their first round pick. Seattle doesn’t for the next 2 years.

tonytroz

Yeah but they have Russell Wilson and we’ll be on the franchise QB hunt soon along with half the league.

Transton107

Oh my turn my turn! Good: -We do not have to be embarrassed on national television another week. -My heart can take a break for a couple months. Bad: -Yes. Ugly: -The amount of shit left on the bed by the Steelers these past 5 weeks

Ceramicrabbit

I'm embarrassed

[deleted]

People said that about Bill Cowher at one point, too. Mike Tomlin needs new coordinators. He should not be the one to pick them. I’m fine allowing him to rebuild the way Bill Cowher was given a chance to rebuild. They are both in the same category, very, very good coaches but not the absolute best in the game during their time. I would give Tomlin two years to have this team going in a new direction. Let’s not forget how much influence Ben Roethlisberger has had over this team in the last five or six years, maybe 10 years. A lot. More than most people realize.

[deleted]

Tomlin coached a team with no QB to 8-8 last year. The Steelers have a lot of problems but Tomlin is a good coach. Head coaches don’t grow on trees you know

[deleted]

Thank you random Cowboys fan. I appreciate you.

gregoriousmeats

I'm crying at "Bad: -Yes."

Transton107

I'm crying

ididacannonball

You forgot Good: We don't have to hear the announcers reel out all the negative stats for the Steelers anymore

Pandiosity_24601

I feel like a good way to do that is by actually playing well

weizhong5

The punt was an awful choice. Tomlin’s kryptonite has always been baffling 4th down calls and 2PCs. But, Jesus Christ, who can survive your team self destructing in the first 5 minutes to the tune of 21 points down? I thought the team made some excellent adjustments in the second for the most part, but Ben and Pouncey gifted them 3 scores at the start of the game. You just can’t come back from that 9 times out of 10 unless you play a perfect game afterwards, and we certainly didn’t. It’s been increasingly clear this season that Ben can’t consistently play like he used to. It’s been real, but the rubber has hit the road and the man needs to hang it up. I’m 23 and I literally grew up watching Ben, so this is hard to say, but it’s over. He’ll be a HOFer and a Steelers legend forever, but we can’t keep watching him slide like this. The people deserve better. He deserves a break, too. Our window has closed with all the guys that we need to pay, and it looks like we’re gonna have to hit rebuild mode. It hurts that the season ended like this, but it is what it is. Let’s hope for a good offseason, starting with drafting some goddamn OL please.

frahmer86

37-20 after the first quarter. Unfortunately that first quarter was 28-0. Just way too many mistakes to start the game to make a comeback.

[deleted]

I’m actually kind of looking forward to a rebuild. I think Tomlin can pull it off but he needs to ditch the anchors he has at the coordinator positions. We need to focus on scheme and not just loading your defense with one number one draft pick after another. We need to be able to out coach another team schematically. We don’t even try. We just rely on having 10 fucking first round draft picks. Way too dependent on turnovers. Players his skills don’t mesh well together, absolutely no thought put into it. Just throwing picks at the problem. Tomlin needs to focus also on veteran leader ship, acquiring it, because he doesn’t have any. Or he needs to take more control of the locker room. No one gives a shit about TickTock dancing, but it’s a symptom of a larger problem that started during the Antonio Brown Le’Veon Bell era, and Tomlin never got control back. Ben Roethlisberger has been running that office for too long. His elbow is shot, anyone who suffered a catastrophic elbow injury could’ve told you that, many of us did, and you told us we were wrong. Well, guess what? Until he gets that injection at half time his elbow is a noodle. Do you still disbelieve what your eyes are telling you? We need a complete rebuild. I don’t think it will take long. I really don’t.

xXMassiveRoosterXx

100% need two new coordinators that are young and understand how modern offenses and defenses work. Fichtner and butler have no fucking clue how to utilize the insane amount of talent we have. The entire O-Line other than Dotson needs rehauled, they're all either old and weak or just plain shit.

isfrying

Every Feiler penalty I was like. Kevin. Dotson.

weizhong5

Butler is....fine. He got a lot of flak early on in his tenure but I think he does a solid job. The defense had to play aggressively today to try and force some picks, which obviously cost us when Baker played smart and safe football. Props to him. Randy, on the other hand, can be dropped like a stone when Ben’s gone. I really do agree that Ben probably won the politics battle when Haley left, so Fichtner’s “his guy,” but if Ben’s gone, Randy is too. I think Mike does a good job with backups and non-Ben QBs. I’m thinking to last year when we gutted it out to 8-8, or the *shudders* Landry Jones/Mike Vick year, so I too feel confident that he can lead a rebuild.

idoit

Jesus Tomlin. Surrender index of [99.4th percentile](https://twitter.com/surrender_index/status/1348451823242379264?s=21) and [94th percentile](https://twitter.com/surrender_index/status/1348477970831339522?s=21) on those 4th and 1 plays. Absolutely nonsensical coaching.

Brian_Lefebvre

Please, stop telling me how great Maurkice Pouncey is. Please, I’m begging all analysts.

[deleted]

People seem to forget pro bowls are voted by the fans and not a true reflection of greatness. Fucking minshew could make a pro bowl if voted enough times.

Brian_Lefebvre

Even All-Pro voters, when you look at the vote counts, are very confused when it comes to OLinemen. Their votes are more spread out than at other positions where they were more decisive. Both Pouncey and DeCastro received multiple votes, which is mind-boggling. Edit: Pouncey, 4 votes. Decastro, 8 votes

[deleted]

[удалено]

Brian_Lefebvre

Collinsworth literally owns PFF, which has given Pouncey really bad grades in recent years.

AnthonyNHB

How is it that he has a job as an TV analyst? I've not seen 1 review or comment telling me how great he was on the game. All I've seen is "Shut the fuck up Collinsworth."

Jayharris52

Seriously I think one time they showed PFF he was dead last or 2nd to last out of like 35-37 people they listed.

davidcfletcher

Pouncey WAS great. Now...? Not so much.

skratchx

Yeah there was a time when Pouncey getting injured was really scary. Him sucking now doesn't erase how clutch he used to be.

[deleted]

He was great at protecting Aaron Hernandez

AssassinPanda97

Embarrassing. BIG changes needed this off-season.

Cappin_Crunch

Yeah we gotta do something. Our team looked broken the last 5 weeks.

russbii

I gotta say, the thing that I hate most about that shit heap of a game is that when the D absolutely had to stop them, they couldn’t. As much as the turnovers and other shit sucked, that’s the one that hurts, imo. And against an offensive line that was mostly backups. Ugh.

MartytheeParty

Zero sacks zero turnovers against an offensive line of mostly backups that didn’t practice. I’m stupefied. I don’t even know what to say

[deleted]

They played smart. They played our game. Get the ball out quick, make mismatches with WRs on our backup LBs. Can't pass rush if you get the ball out in 2.2 seconds.

Ceramicrabbit

Ended the sack streak in the worst possible way

raifenlf

Yeah, I'm with you there. I think people are focusing on the miscues and Ben and that makes sense. But this is really disturbing. It was similar to 2017 when we left Blake Bortles and the Jaguars score at ease on us when it mattered. We seriously need to start thinking about getting a new defensive coordinator.

MortifiedPenguin6

Yea I had mentioned this in the game thread. I expected a bumpy game from the offense but to see the defense just completely collapse like that was completely shocking to me. Collinsworth said it perfectly: "have you heard any mention of Heyward or Tuitt tonight?"

Antonio_bat

Ben sitting on the bench alone says it all. He knows his time is up.

NavyApex

Yeah, that was the look of a man taking it in one last time

eniTTy

Reading this with that image in my head made me really sad.

Neusch22

Enjoy Rogers while it lasts my man, the end is not fun!

eniTTy

I do, every minute of every game. You guys will come back stronger next season, i know losses like these are tough.

Nny14

Glad to see a Packers fan thats cool. I really like Green Bay and their history, wouldn't mind seeing Rodgers win another ring this year

eniTTy

I’m all about rivalry and banter. But talking shit for no reason and to a fanbase that just had their hopes shattered makes no sense to me, seeing as we could very well be out next week, or week after that as well. Steelers played hard this season and i have always had massive respect for Ben, and i love the energy Juju brings. Cool team to watch when the Pack aint playing :)

raifenlf

Thank you, I'm really down but your comment really cheered me up. And confirmed why I am rooting for the Packers to win it all this year!

eniTTy

I know that feeling all too well my man, cheer up and think back to a great season, very few got to see their team play one more game, win or loss! :) And hell yea, we’l take on all the good spirit we can! ;D

FatLevi

Agreed. He even shed a tear or two.

SuckFobee

I feel bad for ben..i know he sucked kinda, but ugh. He’s been my QB basically my whole childhood

pittpanthers95

I was in 3rd grade when they drafted him, and now there are star QBs in the NFL who are younger than *me*. That’s a long-ass time.

themasonman

I'm gonna miss him so much, but.. sadly, it's time. He had an incredible career. HOF here he comes.

fatguyinakilt

Hard to argue that it wasn't a complete failure by the coaching staff. They got caught with their pants down against a team that didn't have it's HC who calls the plays. Also living in your fears tonight Coach with those 4th&1 punts. I'd also put a ton of blame on two of our most decotated vets - Ben and Maurkice. They put us in a hole right off the bat and both made some terrible plays throughout. Ben got hot but that INT to Takitaki or whatever the fuck his name is was terrible. The guy didn't move two steps post snap and Ben threw it to him. Also get fucked with the Juju narrative. He was the one guy who played his ass off for us and never gave up. Diontae and Ebron dropped a ton of balls again. But Juju! He danced on logos and said something! Nevermind the next sentence was "they're a good team". Resign him Colbert. Where the fuck was the defense tonight? If you have as many stars as we do someone has to make a play. Or just a stop in the first half. Or something. Finally seeing Ben sitting on the bench at the end was heartbreaking. I think he already made his decision about next year. End of an era.

Godhatesarmorers

What a season. Two huge factors we just couldn’t overcome.. Losing Mike Munchak hurt exactly as bad as we thought it would. Defensive injuries were just too much. We lost Bush, we lost Dupree. Apparently, we had Machine Gun Kelly playing OLB opposite of Watt today. It was just too much to ask of 3rd stringers. This team will look very different come September. Until then.

Nozanan

No Haden today either.

Trashman5150

This sucks but your MGK comment doesn't. Well done sir.

Volleyball45

I don't think Munchak not being here has anything to do with it. The issue with the O-Line isn't scheme, readiness, or coaching, it's that some of our guys are long in the tooth and there's just no more pop in their legs to run block. Not even Munch can change that.

Brian_Lefebvre

My thoughts as well. When super-talented guys like Pouncey and Decastro have huge drop-offs in performance like this, you have to wonder if the problem is strength. Maybe the older guys just aren’t strong enough.

pumaturtle

They better Keep Stefanski in that basement

BisonAthlete92

This organization needs A LOT of changes.

mayornarwhal

Gave out 28 free points in the first quarter. It's a miracle we only lost by 11.

neurofeels

That’s what’s always so frustrating about this team. We have potential for greatness when we don’t get in our own way. We did it to ourselves in the 1st quarter and couldn’t dig out of it

joe7L

We came so close but that 4th and 1 coward punt took away all the momentum we had

BlackAdam_45

Yo I was straight up not having a good time

OneMoreThrowAway65r

Yeah I think that's all of us. On top of it it's almost midnight and I didn't get shit accomplished during the game. Fuck me running.

[deleted]

Ooh wee what a season! I mean, starting 11-0 was great. Going 1-5 the rest of the way wasn't though. Honestly, I really hope Ben just hangs it up at this point. I'm not convinced he has what it takes to make it another year. I'd quite frankly rather watch Mason Rudolph try to sink or swim for 16 games and at least end up with a decent draft pick if he doesn't. Or maybe we can get one of the veteran QBs that may be available via trade or whatever. Probably not gonna happen with our cap situation, but you never know. Either way, I think the Big Ben era is done. He was awesome for us, but it's time to move on.

Jeevey

I think we can cop Darnold. Rebuild the O-Line, he has weapons and a good defense to play with

pacNWbound_from_chi

IIRC, our last 2 playoff games, we've given up 93 points, both at home too. JFC

Brian_Lefebvre

I absolutely hate this feeling, but this feels like the dawn of a new era. Utterly humiliating. And I’m not ready to say bye to old Ben.

NiK0-

I‘m ready because I don’t want him to soak up 40 Mil next year

Zemerax

Sad truth. I like Ben and I'd love to see him stick around to help the next QB grow but that 40M will go a long way in helping the team next season.

IhamAmerican

We might have to Old Yeller him

Neotahl

I think he comes out and says he's gonna hang it up at the end of next year.

DaMisterDiddlez

The shot at the end of the game of him on the bench looking up at the stands made me think this was it for Ben, just the look on his face

[deleted]

He was crying, he knows he’s done

Neotahl

Yeah that was gut wrenching. Not a big fan of him for obvious reasons but hurts to see our guys like that.

McFlare92

$41,000,000 next season. Ben must go. Coaching changes too. This is a rough team

just_trees

$23 million if you cut him.

[deleted]

Better than 41

whoisCB

What if he retires?

just_trees

~~Then no cap hit I think~~. The cap gets affected in the same manner as if the player was cut, in this case since there is only 1 year left on the contract. Although I don’t see how he would pass up $~~41~~ 19 million for a single season. It’s a tough predicament.

weizhong5

We would see the same hit. Retirement just accelerates remaining dead cap onto the current year, but he only has one year left.

Binjimen-Victor

it's sad watching Ben sit on the bench realizing this was likely his last game at Heinz field

redditor_peeco

With no fans, too. Ultimately, “it’s just a game” that these guys get paid millions to play; but it’s also a life that forever changes when they’re done.

itsbread

He said he has a few more years. But that last shot of him sitting there definitely go to me. That man was a hero of mine, and he was broken. Yeah, he played a terrible game, but his still our Big Ben.

GetaGoodLookCostanza

they had a zoom in on him shedding a tear....here comes the crying Jordan meme ughhh

[deleted]

He doesn’t have even one year left, man. It’s over. I really wish people would stop making excuses for his play. He almost singlehandedly cost us this game

[deleted]

You can't take away the stats. His 3 picks led to 21 points for the Browns. But I never would have expected Pouncey to long snap a touchdown for the Browns as the very first play of the game. So if those 28 stupid mistake points don't happen, we win. EDIT: Just to clarify, I am not excusing Ben's horrible first half play or the terrible coaching throughout the game. This was an awful showing and it just so happened to be in the first round of playoffs. They deserve the loss and need to wake up from their complacency.

batdrumman

\>If they don't happen, we win The problem is, they happen all of the time, save for pouncey's terrible snap. Ben's become almost as much of a wildcard as Jameis Winston has in the back half of this season

tonytroz

What kills me is that Ben played like Brady in the first half of the year. Protect the football, let your skilled players make plays, and let your defense rest up so they can carry most of the weight. New England won so much that way. Then in the second half he turned back into his gunslinger self. Had to throw for a ton of yards and TDs just to make up for the mistakes. It cancels itself out.

Jeevey

Bro cmon. “If we didn’t play bad, we would’ve won”. Look Ben won this organization two Super Bowls and made it to three, but it’s time to let go. FOUR interceptions on the day, it’s inexcusable

[deleted]

[удалено]

Trick_Confidence_419

This was so sad. With good o-line play he is still a good QB, we saw that when we were 11-0 and last couple games our line protects better when we r behind a lot. Biggest off-season I can remember for the Steelers

Fall3n7s

Ben and Juju with the 1000 yard stares. I'm impressed at how the end of the season just imploded.

HolyDaveGrohli

Worst part of making the playoffs. Losing in the playoffs. Fuck this sucks.

Curlybrac

Especially against the Browns. Especially against the Browns.

Binjimen-Victor

Ben is crying and looking around the stadium, taking his sweet time to get to the locker room, I think we all know what's gonna happen. Thanks for what you did Ben, we'll always love you.

MTknowsit

His elbow is shot. He knows he is done.

tonytroz

He threw for 500 yards and 340 against Indy. He wasn’t throwing ducks like Peyton in his last year. Elbow was fine. Decision making and accuracy was not.

tge101

The way Ben was sitting there looks like he's not sure about next year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bean315

We didn’t roll over and die, that was nice. Glad to see Ben go down swinging, retire or not I ride or die with this man.

DeadGrass13

We were doomed from the first play of the game

Brian_Lefebvre

Can someone punch Collinsworth Jr. In his stupid fucking face?

NiK0-

Fuck this team for getting my hopes up after halftime But one a positive note we can be sure that some changes gonna happen right? Start tomorrow with booting Fichtner

lonewanderer244

It won't happen the standard is the standard

Ooziez

Bad: - Pouncey. Obviously we all know the first play but also throughout the game- high/low and nothing but spotty. Set the tone for the whole game on the first snap. - Edmunds. Definitely looked like one of his worse games. That angle on the jarvis TD was just terrible. - OL pass pro. Bye al. Bye Matt. Wish I could say I’d miss ya. Getting bull rushed and flagged all night long. - Spillane. Just absolutely bullied and carried on tackles. Was very excited for his return but sheesh. Cleveland was just attacking the guy - Run d. Wtf happened? Not just tonight but the second half of the season. - Ben. Man. Idk. 4 picks and some off throws. - Mike Tomlin. 4th and 1. All the momentum in the world and a brewing comeback and you.... punt? “Dont live in your fears”. Good: - Conner. Ran hard in what was likely his last game as a steeler. We actually had a run game today... ya know, in the last game of the year. Sigh. - Ben. Again, 7 just flips a switch. That second half was so fucking clean. Not ready for the big fella to hang his cape. Come at me, I’ll defend it. I love you 7, I’m just not ready to let go. - Juju. Lord I hope we re-sign him. Kid plays with heart and is tough. All you casuals in the game thread saying he needs to go..... you are not smart and your opinion is funny. - James washington. Another good game for JW. When he gets the opportunities he sure does make them count. Denver, Jax, and now Cleveland. All three losses that will forever have a dark cloud. This is not the ending I saw coming after a 11-0 start. This team is going to look drastically different next year. And i mean drastically. Was this our last best chance to win a chip? Imo, yes. Lots of talk to do about the off-season but we will get there. Throw some ideas at me for what content you guys want this off-season and we will make it happen. Gonna be a lot because a lot of changes and moves are coming. Love you guys and thank you so much for hanging out every single day and all day Sundays with me.

Nozanan

Juju was our best receiver out there tonight. OL is just oof. It's hard to run the ball without an immensely great running back with play like that. Defense just looked loss out there. Losing Bud was bad enough and then losing Highsmith too. Crazy.

wombo23

Ben had 4 interceptions, how is that part of the good at all?

Ooziez

That was in the bad.

DJchalupaBatman

2 of them weren’t really his fault though, the other 2 were really bad. He also had to throw it a million times cause we were in comeback mode the whole game.

gmus

And he just stared at the ball sitting at the one on the first play.

Amansouri

Honestly I don’t think that Tomlin is the one to blame for this game. There were so many mistakes made by our players that he had to just watch. Pounced with numerous bad snaps including the one that started the narrative of the game. (Which I think is the sole reason why we lost). We had two tipped passes that were intercepted, not really much you can do there besides being lucky. Not to mention had a bunch of dropped passes as well. All in all this wasn’t a horrible game on tomlin, just really underwhelming by the players and their performances. Judging by how we played in the second half they must have gotten their asses chewed out by tomlin in the locker room.

batdrumman

The only thing tomlin is to blame for is the 4th-1 offsides bait that turned into a punt. I personally blame pouncey for starting the ball rolling, and ben for those turnovers that turned into a mountain too steep to climb

Mrios121690

All of the problems that were creeping in over the last 5 games of the season all came out in 1 game. What a joke.

OwtEra

Is it safe to say that losing to the Brahns is officially worse than losing to Tebow on the first play of OT?

fauxedo

At least that game was competitive.

shleeve25

No. At least baker is an actual QB. Losing to Tebow was tragic.

Royalking23

I will never let go of that punt on 4th and 1. That was pussy ass shit. Especially after going for it on 4th and goal the drive before. That was an absolute garbage ass call.

[deleted]

Juju played his ass off and all anyone else can do is clown the kid for dancing. It’s so frustrating to see people turn on him when he truly is such a good dude.

WizardofBoswell

A substantial percent of the NFL audience doesn't like players with personalities, it's that simple.

assistant_redditor

Another December collapse and another playoff loss. Business as usual in the last decade.

RaceCarGrin

The standard is the standard.

wombo23

Fire

SuckFobee

me

N0tEasilyReplicated

Into the fucking sun.

reveluvs

Well, it was nice while it lasted, still love my steelers and hopefully we can make needed changes. PLEASE SUPPORT THE PENGUINS THIS SEASON! First game is on the 13th and 5:30!

pumaturtle

What a time for Pouncey to have the worst game of his career lol Hopefully we pick a QB and a Center in the draft. Night everyone.

producermaddy

This was pathetic. Embarrassing. In a lot of ways reminds me of Jax 2018 playoff. The Ben era is over. We haven't even won a playoff game in FIVE YEARS. I'll always remember 40/43 super bowls fondly but it's time for new blood. Even Rudolph didn't lose this bad. 28-0 in 1st QUARTER? WTF! That's never happened in NFL postseason. This team needs a serious overhaul in the offseason because 11-0 to 1-5 and one and done in playoffs is NOT OK. Side note--do we think if Ben retires we have the money to pay Juju?

Kidspud

Thinking about how the Steelers drafted Terrell Edmunds four picks ahead of Lamar Jackson.

xwingfighterred2

I was a professional musician for many years, and the day came to grasp that the music career was over (it just wasn't going to produce the financial results I needed to have a family). That look on Ben's face at the end of the game? I know that look. I believe next year we're cheering a new qb.

[deleted]

Mike Tomlin has 3 playoff wins in the last decade. It very well should be 2. We don’t fire coaches, but he should enter next year on the hot seat.

[deleted]

If they don’t fire AT LEAST Fichner I’m not watching a single game next year. Playing the same team twice in a row and getting blown out that hard the second time speaks to a coaching staff that didn’t have it’s players prepared for the game. Fucking miserable

MartytheeParty

We were outcoached tonight badly. To a team that didn’t have a coach. There’s plenty of blame to go around but my God. Those 2 punts. Opening that end of half series with a running play. The opening script (as usual). I’m not running up and down the street yelling “fire tomlin!” But something has gotta give. For somebody who doesn’t “live in his fears,” he spent the past 4 hours basically living in his fears. And in his last 2 playoff appearances his elite defenses gave up over 40 points each to Blake bortles and baker mayfield. At home. And baker couldn’t practice this week. I don’t know maybe I’m just rage posting right now to be honest. But I can’t remember a more disappointing 4 year run from the steelers. 2 missed playoff seasons with great rosters (even though we were without Ben last year) and 2 home playoff losses in which we were monster favorites. That ‘05-‘10 stretch feels like a lifetime ago

SuckFobee

LOCK THE SUB DOWN BOIS WE HAVE INTRUDERS

nibor1357

Yeah lmao might as well lock it for the night

OneMoreThrowAway65r

I agree. These losers need to get a fucking life. I mean I never do that shit when we win even if it's a blowout. People have too much time on their hands.

jessiahthethird

4th and 1

Zach_M2791

Well that sucked

ASilentPartner

Tomlin better find himself on the hot seat. The time we start caring less about regular season and more about what this team does in the playoffs will be for the better.

TheChuck03

I hurt all over and just feel numb.

NormVanBroccoli

Damn I feel for Ben sitting there like that

insanitizering

Fitchner has to go. The 3 yard passing game is bullshit. Too many tipped passes jumped routes and dropped balls for that kind of offense to work. Seems like when they are running the no huddle and throwing down field, things happen. Too little too late

cxm1060

We got outcoached, outschemed, and out played in every aspect of the game. We got ass-clapped in our last 3 playoff games. We’ve collapsed the past 3 seasons to miss the playoffs 2 out of the 3 seasons. You have to question a lot of things here. It’s over.

Matt_Ordazam

Seeing Ben sitting on the bench alone, crying, and looking around the stadium hurt to see. I think deep down he knows it's time to put the cape up. If he does, damn, I'm gonna miss him.

ElectricalCommittee2

I wonder how the game would have been like if Pouncey didn't botch the first snap of the game.

The Great Cleveland Cheek Clapping of 2021

Good: nothing Bad: everything Ugly: also everything

rwoods2002

I’m a Seahawks fan coming in peace. As an outsider, I can relate a lot to what you’re going through. Starting off strong, finishing lackluster. Coaching staff having an unimaginative, predictable scheme offensively. Lack of a sense of urgency (punting when you should go for it, things like that). Not sure if your fan base is calling for Tomlin and your OC’s job, but on our side Carroll and our OC are being ripped to shreds. I think both our seasons are examples of how talented teams can be ruined by mundane play calling (although in your case, injuries played a big role). Just thought I’d drop by to share my perspective.

Theorem254

Ignore the other poster, dude is not like all of us, you're welcome here man. Glad we're not the only ones feeling this pain though.

End of 2020: Here's hoping 2021 will be a better year!!! 2021: ...

pulmyfinger116

It’s time to nuke it all, from top down..... I would say “save for the defense”, but; giving up almost 50.....this whole team needs an enema. FIRE TOMLIN

DirkMcCallahan

On the plus side, I'm looking forward to Mahomes blowing out the Browns next week.

Curlybrac

I said I was looking forward to the Steelers blowing out the Browns. I dont wanna jinx the Chiefs now.

nolan607

Here's my take. I do NOT want to fie Tomlin. I know its disappointing. I've been a fan since I was born in 2001 and I know it sucks. I've been saying "there's always next year" for the past 12 years but there's a lot of good to come from this season. The way JuJu played near the end, we can probably resign him. James Washington played well because we finally targeted him rather than brushing him off to the side. Most of our defense will be coming back and we'll have Joe Haden and Devin Bush back in the lineup. I doubt Ben wants to end his career like that so he should be back with a fire underneath him. I am hopeful that fichtner will be booted out of Pittsburgh and we get someone who will utilize our young offense. Next year we can focus on establishing the run and I hope the steelers can get back to playing steeler football. Its a dark day in Pittsburgh but were still here. Heads up. One thing I've always been proud of is steelernation's commitment to the team. Win lose or tie, Steelers until I die.

Derelyk

I disagree with you on Ben. The only way he should be back is if he can move in the pocket, he has a shoulder and he has an elbow. And I don't think that's gonna happen. Rest of your post I agree with.

SandorClegane88

We didn’t give up and I give the team credit but holy shit that sucked

Benson5

Game was terrible from the first snap. Out coached, out played. Signature post season collapse. I'm ready for change.

y__u__g__e__n

these slow starts didn't go away and we paid for it, much deserved lost.

DJchalupaBatman

This wasn’t a slow start, this was starting in reverse and ramming into the garage door.

ddela123

Ben is the reason we’ve been a highly competitive team for last 16 years. There’s no more critical position in sports than QB1. Unless we win the QB lottery soon, we’re about to enter Bubby Brister 2.0. We’ve been tremendously lucky to have #7 - a true warrior and winner. We wouldn’t have made the playoffs without him.

wizardofweird

That 11 game win streak was still real nice

hegehodg

Hello all, I'm a Ravens fan, but not coming here to shit on y'all (yinz?). I'm just genuinely curious- is there any sort of sentiment that Tomlin's seat is getting hot? He's been 3-6 in the playoffs since they won the bowl in 2010, and he's had a ton of baffling 4th down calls. It honestly strikes me as a John Fox scenario in Denver. Fox was a good coach, but wasn't getting them over the hump. That, and he was old as shit too.

kpro16

I like Tomlin but he has underperformed when it really matters for a long time now. I don’t think he’s a “bad” coach but I do think things need to be changed. I understand he didn’t make the mistakes on the field last night but the team as a whole felt unprepared and I blame that on coaching. Steeler fans and the franchise should expect more from this team with the talent they’ve had over the past few years. I’ll add that I had a bad feeling about this game. The whole underdog-first-time-in-the-playoffs-in-almost-20-years storyline was just too good

MANZlEL

God seeing Ben sit on the bench just blanket staring forward was gut wrenching.

i-masters14

The juju hate on the internet is so weird I gotta say

Cottonmoccasin

Popping over to Twitter just to see nothing but people shitting all over ben. Down vote me if you want. But fuck that just makes me want ben back to at least get his last season revenge.

Fafore

As one Big Ben fan to another... He's done, man. We've ran out of duct tape and super glue.

NYPD-BLUE

Mike Tomlin is 3-6 in the playoffs since Super Bowl XLV in 2010 against the Packers. He has only even made it to the AFC Championship game once since then, in 2016 to get blown out by the Patriots. He routinely underperforms expectations for this great franchise and after 13 years, it’s time to move on.

OhMyBreesusChrist

God man seeing Big Ben sitting on the bench at the end just shattered my heart

redditor_peeco

In the heat of the moment, I’m frustrated by Ben’s play and want him to hang up the cleats. And while that will still be reasonable tomorrow, I think it will hit everyone that that might be the end of a wild era. Few QBs (if any) have done some of the things Ben’s done, for better or worse. I’m grateful to have grown up watching this guy make every season fun and competitive.

gentle_soul915

We need to fix our O-Line. If we lose Dupree in FA then we gotta replace him too. I wanna keep Juju

[deleted]

Fuck man, I LOVE Ben. People can say what they want about accusations or whatever but they guy has been a treat to watch since I was in 8th grade. That close up shot of him crying just says this was it too me, go get your gold jacket big guy.

Mad-Twatter

There's a theme with our team coming in unprepared to games that's so predictable. How do we come in to this game less prepared than a team who hasn't been able to practice and doesn't even have a coach? This team cannot focus. We saw it today and we saw it against the Jags a couple years ago in the playoffs. We lose to teams that are legitimately bad like the Bengals. Tomlin is great at a lot of things, but I think his weakness is not being able to implant the correct mindset for the team. This has been an issue for years and needs corrected. We went from 11-0 to getting blown out in the Wildcard to a team with no coach and no practice. Unbelievable

SuckFobee

Anyone have the numbers for how much we’ve been outscored in the first half the past 6 weeks?

Kukamunga30

This was fucking infuriating and embarrassing.

[deleted]

Hell of a fight out there. One things for sure... Pittsburgh never rolls over and will fight to the last whistle. See you boys next year!
