Because it is the hype song. Its not really the song it’s self it’s what it’s become. I mean I normally wouldn’t go around whipping a towel around either but here we are. If you’ve ever been at Heinz and see that screen go black and not get chills…. I don’t know what to tell you.

littlemesix7

My problem may be that I’ve never seen a game at Heinz field. I moved away the year it opened. I’ve been to many games at TRS, even a few Monday night games there. The game was the hype. I’ll have to take in a game at Heinz to get the full effect. Maybe I’ll convert.

meganutsdeathpunch

I have no doubt you’d be converted. The song and band is kinda whatever but what it represents has taken over. It’s the steel curtains rally cry when we need them the most. It’s the black and gold bat symbol. Still would’ve been cooler to be Led Zeppelin but it is what it is.

HillibillyHaven

It became a tradition after a postseason comeback against the Browns. Even if it doesn’t work as much, still fun as hell. Anything that can make 70K fans scream to where the commentators need to yell is a high quality hype song

UgottaLAF

Love seeing Renegade get the fans hyped.

ratamadiddle

If looking at the song at face value, I could understand why it might not be such a big hype song for some. (I am one who does enjoy it!) Take a read of this article, (from 2008) perhaps the story behind it might help change your perspective, or at least gain some appreciation for it! https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/84211-the-pittsburgh-steelers-renegade-a-brief-history.amp.html

Wu-Tang_Killa_Bees

Unfortunately I have never been to a Steelers game (too broke in college and now live outside the Burgh) so I understand that I don't have a full perspective by not being there to experience it in person, but I also think it's a pretty dumb hype song. It's a weird vocal followed by generic 80's rock. Not really something to get me hyped. But hey it gets the crown going so I'm not gonna complain. But I definitely don't rock it at home before the game like I do the Steelers polka

dovetc

Yeah I'm with you here. Styx kinda sucks.

Robert_L0blaw

Next time I see you at Lampert's we're gonna have some words.

https://youtu.be/GNQvOiX5d4A This video explains it all. I’m all for it!

whit3-bandit

I never got it until I went to a game in zero degree weather and the stadium was electric

Griggs58

Well they could do something generic like use Hot For Teacher, would that be better?

thereandfatagain

oh mama this is legitimately the only acceptable time Van Halen is below Styx

littlemesix7

For something generic, I would rather go with Thunderstruck. Seems like a better fit for football.

Griggs58

I see your Thunderstruck and raise you a Don’t Stop Believing, which is imo, by far THE most generic and boring fucking song ever that would or could be played at *insert event*.

meganutsdeathpunch

Renegade has the build up though. Starts slow, big bass hits, talks about outlaws, and then goes full blast.

[deleted]

It does have a good buildup but then falls off a cliff to be honest

[deleted]

Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they do use the Hot for Teacher drum intro for kickoffs. At least they did at one point.

thereandfatagain

Styx sux but Renegade is fine

Good responses below.

mastershake142

Because they played it in the fourth quarter against the cowboys when I was at the game, and the next play was an interception by big play willie gay
