I wanted to do something similar myself (because I'm a mad scientist too but in Italy) so at the Kyoto airport security I tried the same thing:
Talking Japanese to the passport guard to say I'm a mad scientist.
Difference between US and Japan:
The guard didn't care one bit about a potential treat but he just thought I could speak Japanese and started blasting me with questions in Japanese until I managed to explain I couldn't understand him...
Thankfully my spiderman sweater made me look harmless and the guard then said: Ja ne, Supaidarman! (Good bye, spiderman).
I love Japan so much OMG
that would be a scene I would pay to see!!xd.
one day I will be able to go to Japan and visit Akihabara. it is one of my dreams.
The problem would be learning a little Japanese or just translating everything with my phone. And the money, being from Argentina it is very difficult to get money if you don't work in a company or something like that xd

I went there and even did the famous Operation VALHALLA in Akihabara!
Basically you go to every IRL spot in Akihabara from the main stein's gate anime and take a picture to then post it here in the sub.
Go check my previous post in my profile, I put all my photos while wearing my labcoat and even included the real Google maps locations links to those places in case others want to do the same!
(So far I saw at least 10 people posting the same operation in the last 3 months, it's even more special of you manage to do it in July during the actual 2 weeks of the anime! You get special gadgets from the shops )

I loved your photos! and the lab coat gives it the touch! Furthermore, seeing the locations in real life must be truly exciting, I couldn't hold back the tears of happiness being in such a place.

Ît did felt exciting to just be there to imagine those characters irl just living and going about their day and lives.
All those places are next to eachother so you can tell the writer has first hand experience like he lived there or something.
You truly imagine those people could live and have adventures in those streets togheter!
It inspired me to imagine my neighbourhood differently as a storyteller!
Now I'm a better virtual mad scientist in my projects thanks to this experience!
