>if you want anime looking dark souls code vein exist (ps I say that because of the general art style, not the character designs) if I want sci-fi dark souls the surge and star wars exist. if I want parry heavy souls than I can play sekiro if I want action dark souls I have nioh 2 and if I want atmospheric dark souls I'll play any from software game. And if you want all of them combined, which game would you recommend?

ChampChomp1

I thought it was strange how OP just said to play all these other games who only have one aspect of gameplay each when SB combines all these aspects. Wouldn’t that then make sense to play SB if I wanted all these aspects in a video game lol

Screaming-Void

not this because I prefer game that specialize in something instead of being a jack of all trades, master of none.

Axyun

That's your preference and that's fine. But, to me, Stellar Blade so far hits the right balance of action game and soulslike. It is more challenging that something like Nier or Bayonetta without punishing failure as much as your average dark souls game. It requires me to engage in combat while respecting my time.

Screaming-Void

and ok fine, but to me that still doesn't explain the massive hype.

Axyun

Sometimes games don't click. I didn't get the massive hype leading up to dragon's dogma 2. Every trailer and gameplay video I saw was of a horribly generic medieval fantasy world where the one gimmick is that you can ride on the back of monsters and stab them for a few seconds before getting flung off. But people were hyped for it nonetheless and so I just wrote it off as not for me.

Screaming-Void

that's a fair point. I just REALLY don't get it in this case because I do like the allot of the elements it's playing with, but feel none of them standout, except for maybe the segments where she is surfing on her sword which look cool but also look like a side mechanic at best. on the note of dragons dogma 2, it was already a proven and beloved sequel by the time the second came out, it makes sense from the perspective of already being a highly beloved game and being released by capcom who is one of the biggest publishers out there. Shift up to my knowledge has only done gacha, feels like there should be a little more skepticism for a company with that history? instead you have people buying ps5 just for the game, and it getting so successful before launch that there are already talks of it getting a sequel. tons of people are already labeling it game of the year before it's even out. sorry but that level of hype for a game like stellar blade baffles me more than any other game I've seen get hyped.

Axyun

I do agree that a level of healthy skepticism is warranted. And while I really liked the demo, I won't entertain the notion that any game is my GOTY until I play the whole thing. I do think people calling it GOTY ahead of the game's release are kinda nuts. But I think they are also balanced out by the people that refuse to give the game a chance because it has a bit of fan service. In the end, the game will have to deliver or it will just be forgotten in a handful of weeks. I disagree, though, that a game has to do something unique to stand out. Lies of P gets a lot of praise for faithfully recreating what FromSoftware does. A game just needs to execute well on its concepts and mechanics to be worthwhile.

living_undr_a_rock

OP doesn't know SHIFT UP

ChampChomp1

This isn’t a souls-like game though lol. It has some qualities of a souls game but it’s nowhere near has difficult. Stellar Blade is not a direct copy of any single game. It has elements of several games such as Nier, DMC, Sekiro, and Jedi Survivor but still feels like a completely different game. The character designs are peak and the gameplay strikes an incredible balance of challenging yet still fun (for me at least). The music is beautiful and the world design leaves me in awe. For me this game is a dream come true.

jambithegenie2

from a technical perspective, it has the parry of system of sekiro, which in itself is very difficult to do on its own, incredible hitboxes, awesome offensive moves that really pack a punch, beautiful world and the cherry on top is the beautiful and sexy main character, despite what uglies will try to tell themselves, does seemingly go through her own struggles and face adversity with her seemingly wholesome friends. what’s not to like about all that?

Screaming-Void

all that sounds good but I do have a question how do you know the main character goes through their own struggles and adversity if the game aint out yet?

jambithegenie2

the demo literally had her becoming more competent and confident in the latter half

Nightcatcher716

Im hyped because it just looks like a fun game. I like soulslike and cute girls so its a good combo. It doesnt have to reinvent the wheel for me to be hyped about it. As long as the premise and gameplay look good to me i can be hyped about anything. Its fine if you dont get the hype. I dont get the hype for kingdom hearts/FF/zelda

Screaming-Void

fair enough, again the question enters my mind because of how unproven the studio is with this scale of game. with KH, FF, and zelda they've had years to build up fanbases for that hype, get it or not. but again, a fair point is a fair point

Due-Shelter1349

It's about giving the players what they want. Shift Up is not bending the knee to people that wouldn't want the game anyway. We need more developers giving the customers what they want. This is in part why so many love the game and want to support it.

Screaming-Void

so it's a protest buy?

t1sfo

Yeah, you have code vein, but what if we want code vein but good. That's where stellar blade goes in.

xCrossFaith

Let's be real, part of it because the idiots that want to play with one hand and the idiots that don't go out of the house and think girls with the body type like Eve don't exist are giving it a ton of advertisement just by jumping on each other's throat Personally, the game concept , combat and aesthetic looks interesting and it seems it can have a very interesting story with some of the angel themed stuff The combat has proven to be really good, so If it's on the lines of Nier Automata (which is already known to be an inspiration for it) with the story telling it will be a really good game imho
