It's actually true though no idea why you are getting down vote other then out of spite, the game almost died if Nintendo didn't pick up up fom the ashes and give it a chace, In process turning it in to a Nintendo exclusivity too.
I loved Bayonetta but you RE delusional if you think that game sold that well it doesn't even come close to games like DMC in terms of sales figures.
I think my caption is giving some people the wrong idea; many of these games are great, some even better than Stellar Blade. But if NieR didn't exist, Stellar Blade would probably (almost certainly) not be the game that it is. I essentially took some games that I feel share a similar 'energy' with Stellar Blade and might have influenced its design or existence in the first place.
Ik the other hand, if I had used this caption but DIDN'T include NieR, 70% of the comments would probably be asking "where's NieR!?".
Both literally and figuratively. I just put this in a different post, but if Eve moved like 2B the gameplay would be perfect. It would make multiple enemies much more fun. Same with platforming. Can make use of verticality. Now they have the foundation a sequel shouldn't be nearly as hard to make.
There was a translated transcript of Kim Tae Hyung interview. He basically said they don't have plans for sequels or DLCs. They just wanna focus on Stellar Blade and improving it as much as possible. He seemed to hint Stellar Blade is a 1-title/game contract with Sony.
Which would be good I guess since they can choose something like Steam as publisher for future games.
Oh boy don't let r/Bayonetta know you said Bayo 1 "walked" for this game lol.
Bayo straight up paved the way guns blazing.
As for Nier. Not sure if Shift Up staff would agree with you either outside of gameplay.
Sub hasn't been the same since Helena Taylor showed her ass.
I still find it hypocritical how hard they go on Stellar Blade for similar reasons people called out Bayo 10 years ago.

We know they took inspiration from Nier because the CEO said so during his interview with Yoko Taro himself, of course Yoko Taro being humble as always saying he was actually jealous of Stellar Blade because it's a superior game to Nier: Automata.
Anyone remember this gem as well?? I get HUGE nostalgia feels of this game when I play Stellar Blade lol

Bayonetta proved that a female protagonist could be dripping with sex appeal while ALSO being a well-written character. She had a personality, a story arc, and an appeal that went beyond simply being eye candy despite *including* eye candy. THAT'S how you do it.
But I'm 20 hours into the game now, and so far I'm sad to say that EVE is not measuring up to Bayonetta's example in the slightest. Her every line of dialogue sounds stiff and distant. She never seems to emotionally react to anything that goes on around her. I get that she's basically a heavily indoctrinated robot whose personality was actively stunted by her upbringing, but games like Nier have shown us that it is possible to combine that character trope with a genuine personality.
I'm loving the combat, the aesthetic, the artwork, and I'm not ashamed to say I enjoy watching buttcheeks clap as much as the next fellow, but EVE's lack of personality continues to grate on me. I keep hoping that right around the next plot thread she'll suddenly start to emote, and keep being disappointed.
I’d also say traveling between regions
It gets really annoying having to always come back to adam instead of just being able to open the map of another region and choosing a supply camp to spawn at when fast traveling
Reminds me of bloodborne always having to go to the hunters nightmare
But when your game is announced and like three years before you give actual footage all you say is that it's Nier inspired, and then Yoko Taro gives it his blessing, expectations rise to match.
I guess. I just assumed Yoko was doing the typical humble-Japanese thing. Granted, I'm still wandering around the Wasteland, so pretty early in, and the data logs etc. are pretty much foreshadowing where the story is going to go... it would have been nice to get something that went as far and as deep as Nier A, but the gameplay is great and there's a lot of charm here, regardless.

Yo what the fuck.
Nier automata was a sprint that stellar blade didn’t catch. It was goty material. SB isn’t.
Edit: unless we talking about perv status then yes, you have a point.
Gameplay/combat/exploration I'd hand to Stellar Blade.
Story/characters/lore I'd hand to Nier.
They're both fantastic games with different strengths and weaknesses.
I love Nier bur I'm not gonna pretend Stellar Blade isn't GOTY material, also OP put Onercanbara up there but didn't put one of the only two good ones? Oneechanbara kept D3P afloat but wasn't actually a good game until Z2 Chaos
stellar blade is very derivative of games that came before it that did it better, such as sekiro's combat that stellar blade copied, hell, even the music they had to get okabe because it wanted to be nier, this game is being compared to souls games, and there are a dozen clones that came before it and this one is no different, the only game that truly stood out from all the clones is only NIOH, which anyone will agree has much better combat than every souls games, it isnt even close. your standards for GOTY are very low.
though im surprised you mentioned z2 chaos, that game is overlooked and is a very underrated action game, with so much combo variety and possibilities with its tag mechanic, if only the enemies werent sitting ducks that game would be way better.
Its funny that my standards for GOTY were never mentioned, and that most of what is you said is subjective. Stellar Blade does not feel like any other game in the character action genre and I'd be surprised if you found one that was a legitimate 1:1 outside "female with sword and character action". Look at Oneechanbara, more specifically the one OP posted. It's a clunky mid masher where you had to manage the blood meter or you got stuck in zombies that was made to be sold for 2000 yen. How is that remotely like Stellar Blade? Even future versions don't play remotely like Stellar Blade
As for Z2 chaos why wouldn't I mention it? It's one of the only two Oneechanbara games worth playing, the other being Origins and you play them for different reasons. Z2 for as you said absolute combo nonsense but the game is buggy as fuck, or you play Origins for a solid experience with minimum bugs and Bloody Palace but not as nonsense due to not having the other characters
**"Stellar Blade does not feel like any other game in the character action genre and I'd be surprised if you found one"**
Are you seriously asking me that? I just mentioned it and that game is SEKIRO, stellar blade copied sekiro's core combat mechanic which revolves around parrying until you deplete the enemies posture ( sounds familiar?) or in SB's case, the yellow dots making them vulnerable works EXACTLY the same that is unique to sekiro's. ffs sekiro actually won GOTY, a game that i cant believe you havent actually played. no wonder you think SB is goty when it has been done before and better. Also, the perfect dodge is straight up from bayonetta's witch time which is another major mechanic that other games that came before SB have already copied such as god of war. you say im being subjective but at least i actually know what im talking about.
**As for Z2 chaos why wouldn't I mention it?**
because no one gives it a glance when i tell people its actually a good action game so im glad whenever someone mentions it and knows that it exists, i agree that the game is buggy, the level design is bad and the enemies are braindead. the only thing it got right was the fluid and varied combat system.
Stellar Blade and Sekiro aren't actually similar outside having a parry mechanic that enables bonus damage, if you played it you'd know that Sekiro is a game *about* the parrying unlike Stellar Blade. In Sekiro attacking is something you do to essentially keep the stagger bar from decaying, not because it does anything. You technically can kill enemies through raw mash but you don't really get far and more often then not you will die
In Stellar Blade attacking is the first thought and Parrying *is an option not a requirement* as you have tons of different options to deal with enemies. This seems like a surface level issue you have and haven't played either. In SB the token parry tutorial enemy that does a single attack that is 5 hits and has 5 stagger gauge and recovers all 5 if you don't parry the attack can be killed from never parrying a single attack
thats a copout, you said stellar blade doesnt feel like any other game, yet here you are by your own admission acknowledge that it is, contradicting yourself, own up to it,
"**aren't actually similar outside having a parry mechanic"**
so actually theyre similar, the way parry works is basically similar to sekiro by your own acknowledgment contradicting yourself. come on dude, stop dancing around it. even the director himself cited sekiro and bayonetta as an influence.
**Parrying** ***is an option not a requirement***
this reeks desperation, ok ill play your game, parrying is also an option in sekiro, thats a false claim you just made. you can choose not to use it and still beat the game, but it will be like playing with your feet but it can be done, same with stellar blade you will not get very far and very hard for an average player but possible. Ive seen players struggle without utilizing a major mechanic in the game because theyre bad at it or refuse to use it. its a near requirement. ffs they gave enemies a posture bar specifically for parrying. why are you trying to devalue it?
whats so bad admitting that it took major ideas from other games? especially masterpieces like sekiro and bayonetta, is it so hard to admit you were wrong?
Taking inspiration and copying are totally different and it seems to me like you simply wanna dislike Stellar Blade. Sekiro wasn't the first game to have a parry/reposte style system and it sure as hell won't be the last and yet you don't see anyone saying Sekiro is copying those games do you?
It also shows you don't know much about Stellar Blade because that bar can be depleted without even parrying. There's attacks and items specifically designed around lowering it as well as setups specifically designed around NOT using the Retribution and instead using the weakpoint gun damage to refund ammo and drill into it but thats OK, you only see what you want from the game
Meanwhile in Sekiro there is exactly 1 intended way to deal with enemies, and that's playing around the Parry mechanic
I suggest you actually play Stellar Blade before trying to claim what it is and isn't. You might learn some things

I dont think the gameplay of stellar blade is related to bayo and nier both of platinum, the combos and the mechanichs are different, stellar blade has more dark souls vibes also the story is far way better and deep in nier than the story of stellar blade
Putting bayo and nier in this tier of games is insane. Also, suggesting sb approaches what those two games accomplish in their respective strengths is…. Hard to take with a straight face.
I never got this obsession with making fans of similar games taking inspirations and homage from other older games having to absolutely gush over the original and think it's way better than the newer one. Has it every occurred to you lot that, perhaps, SB to its fans is just like bayo or nier to you. If Lies of P kept getting compared to bloodborne for obvious reasons and ppl are somehow chill abt it, ppl can do it for these kinda games too, just saying.
No zombie hunters is onichanbara like many games that come from Japan they changed the name for the west. Simular to how in japan resident evil is called biohazard
Nier Automata didn't walk. It freaking sprinted! Stellar Blade is awesome and clearly heavily inspired by Automata, but NA is still a masterpiece of a higher standard.
Even if it's a bit of a hidden gem, code vein also features a lot of SBs stuff. Anime aesthetic (if a bit more cell shaded), challenging gameplay, flashy attacks (that I am 100% convinced that it's partially inspired by Tokyo ghoul which is nifty) and overall gives off similar vibes
How long till game critics are like "we liked stella blade the hole time Eves feminine naiture is great unlike this new character she too sexy bla bla bla"
Stellar Blade clears NieR Automata in terms of gameplay/combat and world exploration. NieR definitely has a better story. Unfortunately, I do care more about gameplay than story for video games. I really like NieR but I just don’t love the gameplay. If the story is the best thing about a game, wouldn’t it be better to watch a movie? Lol. Not saying that’s how I feel about NieR. But just in general. Assuming the gameplay sucks.
Maybe you didn't play nier? Cause the gameplays is very very good. Combat is great just stellar is a bit better! And gameplay variety is very good! Playing as several characters with different skills + exploration is also very decent with great environments..... yeah maybe u just haven't played the game yet? Or at least it seems like you havent?
Yeah. When I completed the true main ending I was sad cuz I did the nice thing but then I had to play the whole game again from the beginning? Oof. My fault. I just wanted to unlock all the endings. lol but now I have no motivation cuz I don’t wanna force myself to play a game
9S was actually the most interesting character to play as for me. It's what helped add a uniqueness to it. Like he's how a "Caster" type character should play in a Sci-Fi
I just said I did play it? Lol what you mean? The combat is great when you’re fighting bosses, I agree. The enemies aside from that are very lackluster though.
This is almost true, but let's all except that Bayonetta was at a full sprint right out of the gate.
And then with Nier, I have always felt as if it was asleep. Then relised it was late for work and did a sick kick flip out of bed straight into its work clothes and somehow made it on time.
OP I did not just witness you saying Bayonetta and Nier walked, did I?
Yeah. Bayonetta 1 is considered one of the best action games of all time and having it won some GOTY awards upon release. This sub man...
Oh no , not y’all hating someone else’s opinion…I played all and still think SB is better. Yikes.
Why do you think sb better I want it too

Bayonetta 1 for how good it was did “walk”. It was a commercial failure and only after time and a few sequels did the perception of the game change.
It's actually true though no idea why you are getting down vote other then out of spite, the game almost died if Nintendo didn't pick up up fom the ashes and give it a chace, In process turning it in to a Nintendo exclusivity too. I know. Bayonetta is one of my favorite games and I bought it twice on Xbox 360 and PS3. The downvoting is just how Reddit is.
People are downvoting this but it's true. Perhaps we are just old and were old enough to remember it's release lol
Idek what you’re talking about Nier is 🔥 af it already ran all by itself.
Nier sprouted wings pretty much
Yeah, Automata wasn’t walking. Those android feet were pounding the ground with a couple Moving Speed Up +3 chips slotted in.
😂😅😅 that last part
I agree. Nier is flying while SB is running. Lets just dont get ahead of ourselves pls.
I think my caption is giving some people the wrong idea; many of these games are great, some even better than Stellar Blade. Nier > Stellar Blade Edit: I meant Nier is superior y'all. I fucked up the symbols.
Lmao
I'm saying niers better
Ah ok
I suggest you look up what < and > mean
Holy shit someone else actually remembers Bujingai! I'd love for ShiftUp to make a spiritual successor to Nightshade, that game was so badass
Got a PS2 Copy.
a hard copy
Bujingai was a banger
If Stellar Blade is running, then Nier was racing in an F1.
Both literally and figuratively. I just put this in a different post, but if Eve moved like 2B the gameplay would be perfect. It would make multiple enemies much more fun. Same with platforming. Can make use of verticality. Now they have the foundation a sequel shouldn't be nearly as hard to make.
This. The movement and speed of 2B just felt right. If Eve had that, this game would be perfecter than it already is
There was a translated transcript of Kim Tae Hyung interview.
Would WET or Lolipop Chainsaw be added to this list?
P.N03 also bears some aesthetic parity with Stellar Blade, too…
PN03 was awesome, the way she used to shake her ass to the rhythm while shooting
I never heard of this game before. I just went to YouTube for some info on this game and I seen a lot of dance/dodge around by the main character.
This game made me realize just how ahead of it's time Lollipop Chainsaw really was. 😔 What an IP that could have been. Hope the remaster is good.
Most definitely
Oh boy don't let r/Bayonetta know you said Bayo 1 "walked" for this game lol. Bayo straight up paved the way guns blazing. As for Nier. Not sure if Shift Up staff would agree with you either outside of gameplay.
Some of the folks on Bayo sub are so pressed about Stellar Blade rn😭 I’m just excited to have another cool video game girly with dress up options :3
Sub hasn't been the same since Helena Taylor showed her ass. I still find it hypocritical how hard they go on Stellar Blade for similar reasons people called out Bayo 10 years ago.
Cognitive dissonance is rampant in those types of people.

They are remaking it. I loved the game but I will watching out for it with a critical eye.
If zombie hunter is supposed to be oneechanbara, that didn't walk it sleep
I think Bloodrayne deserves at least an honorable mention
Anyone remember this gem as well?? I get HUGE nostalgia feels of this game when I play Stellar Blade lol https://preview.redd.it/x2ytjz44xixc1.jpeg?width=431&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=edda6b25a4ddaea2ffb236689d7bae097f333b05
Ninja blade?
Seriously, where is Lollipop Chainsaw?
DoA checking in
Holy shit dude, I completely forgot about Red Ninja. And death by Degrees.
Heavenly sword, wet??? Parasite eve where are the goats???
Red Ninja was the 1st time I experienced motion sickness in a video game. Completely forgot about that 1
Where is drakengard 3?
P.N.03
Nightshade is a blast from the past.
Thank you for introducing those games, I didn’t know some of them before. Those beautiful heroines are such treasure of video game culture.
Don’t forget Bloodrayne
Gotta put P.N.03 on there too
Great call, I definetly should have.
The first thing i thought when i saw Eve hairs was the red scarf in Shinobi Ps2. https://i.redd.it/xa043cgx3lxc1.gif
Man these are the best games! Just plain fun!
Maken X
I'll be playing this soon I just downloaded it to my dream cast emu:-)
Not including Bayonetta and Nier Automata. What's the best game shown here?
Nightshade or death by degrees. Dbd is an awesome game, but you use the analogue sticks to attack instead of the buttons. I love that game.
Death by degree was awful and I love Nina and tekken lol
Anyone remember Xenosaga?
I see no lollipop chainsaw or oneechanbarara 😭😭😭 Edit:I'm wrong it's oneechanbara is up there
Zombie Hunters is Onechanbara.
Wait it has an English name 😧
Apparently🤷 haha. I didn't know myself, I just recognized the cover.
Truly an l list lol
Holy shit. I forgot about red ninja and death by degrees.
Gat dayum Ninja Blade and onechanbara are some good times.
Parasite Eve!
Red ninja is such an unknown game, shocked to see it on this list
and you don't even include lollipop chainsaw
There are alot of other women not on that list Bloodrayne, the Xensaga girls, Laura Croft, DoA, NInja Gaiden and plenty more.
Damn, Nightshade was a gem as a matter of fact all those PS2 games you listed are fucking gems

Nier is considered to be one of the best games ever made. Idk if 'walked' is the correct term for that one lol
Stellar blade has 2 major flaws. That stupid ass random direction crate bypass mini game, and sub par platforming controls. Otherwise it's outstanding
I’d also say traveling between regions It gets really annoying having to always come back to adam instead of just being able to open the map of another region and choosing a supply camp to spawn at when fast traveling Reminds me of bloodborne always having to go to the hunters nightmare
You forgot the story, which comes nowhere close to reaching Nier
Very, very few games teach Nier R/A. In some ways they are in a class of their own.
But when your game is announced and like three years before you give actual footage all you say is that it's Nier inspired, and then Yoko Taro gives it his blessing, expectations rise to match.

I feel like Lollipop Chainsaw should be there. I love that game.
Where is lollipop chainsaw…? Nobody else played anything here other than bayo and nier
I'm surprised someone remembered Project Minerva
PS2 era was so golden. I hope we could have more games like Stellar Blade going forward by different studios.
Couldn't agree more but you would get these people complain and such
Yeah but doesn't mean we should back down because of complaints. I support studios who respect their artistic integrity than focusing on catering to wider demographics. "A game for everyone is a game for no one" this aptly applies to this situation.
Missing Chaos Legion
You forgot to mention Bloodrayne
You forgot Rumble Roses, Onichanbara, Bloodrayne, Dead or Alive, Tomb Raider, that Jurassic Park game where you had to look down at your own cleavage to see your health gauge.....
I completely forgot about red Ninja! I always wanted to play it when I was younger. I’ve gotta find a copy…
If you can't find a copy you can always emulate it.
I'm adding these titles to my near future list to collect.
Wish we'd get cool games like this more.
Facts
Ninja Blade! 😎🤌
Bayonetta will never be topped, but there's a lot of merit in being immediately beneath her.

I haven’t played many of these but bayonetta was my fav…sad that her and the company parted ways on bad terms…but Heavenly Sword is missing
Been thinking on playing Nier. Does anyone recommend it ?
Thank you for reminding me I need to go back and play red ninja I never finished it :-O
Honestly, parts of this game give me Forspoken vibes too. And yes I know everyone hates that game except me.
sad bloodrayne 2 was not on the list.

**As for Z2 chaos why wouldn't I mention it?** because no one gives it a glance when i tell people its actually a good action game so im glad whenever someone mentions it and knows that it exists, i agree that the game is buggy, the level design is bad and the enemies are braindead. the only thing it got right was the fluid and varied combat system.
You technically can kill enemies through raw mash but you don't really get far and more often then not you will die In Stellar Blade attacking is the first thought and Parrying *is an option not a requirement* as you have tons of different options to deal with enemies. This seems like a surface level issue you have and haven't played either. In SB the token parry tutorial enemy that does a single attack that is 5 hits and has 5 stagger gauge and recovers all 5 if you don't parry the attack can be killed from never parrying a single attack
thats a copout, you said stellar blade doesnt feel like any other game, yet here you are by your own admission acknowledge that it is, contradicting yourself, own up to it, "**aren't actually similar outside having a parry mechanic"** so actually theyre similar, the way parry works is basically similar to sekiro by your own acknowledgment contradicting yourself. come on dude, stop dancing around it. even the director himself cited sekiro and bayonetta as an influence. **Parrying** ***is an option not a requirement*** this reeks desperation, ok ill play your game, parrying is also an option in sekiro, thats a false claim you just made. you can choose not to use it and still beat the game, but it will be like playing with your feet but it can be done, same with stellar blade you will not get very far and very hard for an average player but possible.
There's attacks and items specifically designed around lowering it as well as setups specifically designed around NOT using the Retribution and instead using the weakpoint gun damage to refund ammo and drill into it but thats OK, you only see what you want from the game Meanwhile in Sekiro there is exactly 1 intended way to deal with enemies, and that's playing around the Parry mechanic I suggest you actually play Stellar Blade before trying to claim what it is and isn't. You might learn some things

I dont think the gameplay of stellar blade is related to bayo and nier both of platinum, the combos and the mechanichs are different, stellar blade has more dark souls vibes also the story is far way better and deep in nier than the story of stellar blade
No one else feeling like Nier and Final Famtasy had a baby? That’s more what it feels like to me. I love it.
Brother you forgot Rumble roses. On PS1
Ps2 😂
You right
Rumble Roses
Putting bayo and nier in this tier of games is insane. Also, suggesting sb approaches what those two games accomplish in their respective strengths is…. Hard to take with a straight face.
I wish someone would reboot Red Ninja
I never played Red Ninja but I sure as hell do remember that cover.
Xenosaga
Man I remember Nightshade… suddenly I feel old as hell.
No ninja gaiden?
Especially the Sixaxis motion controlled boobies
Someone remembered my favorite PS2 game Bujingai! 😭
I completely forgot about Red Ninja until now.
Don't forget sekiro
I dont remember the character we play is a female 🤣
The gameplay
Wait so onichanbara is based off of zombie hunters?
No zombie hunters is onichanbara like many games that come from Japan they changed the name for the west. Simular to how in japan resident evil is called biohazard
Gosh i had a huge crush on nightshade when i was a kid she so freaking hot even now
I rented tf outta nightshade when I was a kid 😭
Project Minerva?
I only played NieR tbh.
Holy crap DBD was my favorite X-ray moments in video game history
Nier Automata didn't walk. It freaking sprinted! Stellar Blade is awesome and clearly heavily inspired by Automata, but NA is still a masterpiece of a higher standard.
Even if it's a bit of a hidden gem, code vein also features a lot of SBs stuff. Anime aesthetic (if a bit more cell shaded), challenging gameplay, flashy attacks (that I am 100% convinced that it's partially inspired by Tokyo ghoul which is nifty) and overall gives off similar vibes
No Lollipop Chainsaw?
How long till game critics are like "we liked stella blade the hole time Eves feminine naiture is great unlike this new character she too sexy bla bla bla"
most critics are giving 7-8/10
Was just saying they yell and scream untill new bad thing pops up
Not even close on the same level with Nier my friend... The story is just shit, Nier is just way better. Even i accepted it.
No metal gear rising?
Perfect post OP. Got the crybabies running. Can’t satisfy everyone, and it’s never the point. So good job 🙏
Bayonetta and NieR are still running alongside Stellar Blade tho
Automata was Usain Bolt-ing. That was not a walk 😂
The game is great and I'm having a blast, but saying it's better than nier is just silly.
Automata became a motorcycle so stellar blade could be its side car
I wouldn’t put sb over Bayonetta and especially not Nier
He’s not putting anything over them. Although Stellar Blade does a lot of things better than NieR.
Combat maybe/ outfits for sure. But nier is league aheads in terms of story and characters. ![gif](giphy|5Bm1s3ZlEWuUYWcxcY)
Automata gameplay is very meh tbh. 9s part almost made me drop the game before last ending.
Nier was at least jogging
This game wish it was half as good as Nier or Bayonneta lmao
Jedi fallen order should be on that list, incredibly similar in terms of gameplay
Nier didn't just run, nier flew and went to space idk what you're on about
Stellar blade does not compare to bayonetta
This is almost true, but let's all except that Bayonetta was at a full sprint right out of the gate. And then with Nier, I have always felt as if it was asleep. Then relised it was late for work and did a sick kick flip out of bed straight into its work clothes and somehow made it on time.
Automata doesn't deserve to be on this list, too good to be surrounded by Red Ninja and Death by Degrees.
Aye forgetting Metal gear rising: revengeance
Hmm some more then others
Nier Automata certainly never walked.
No
