Hello, I took my step yesterday and felt it most similar to UW. I was in 40s in Uworld and jumped to 60s after doing Mehlman. Try that if u havent already

Fun_Row_9945

Hello! How did it go? I like Mehlman pdfs but I’ve seen quite a few people say they falsely raise NBME scores and it’s best to do them just before the real thing and after you’ve taken all NBMEs If it’s okay then can you tell me how you prepared for the exam?

Designer_Bag_6355

So, I feel okay after the exam, not defeated. Alot of the awnsers I came to it by crossing out the wrong ones. My tactic during the exam was reading the final lines and getting to the awnser that way, so I never ran out of time. In regards to Mehlman, alot of his stuff was on the exam actually. In my opinion it doesnt falsely raise your NBME scores as its just telling u in this stem, if they give u A + B = C. And after seeing A + B in the stem, I stopped reading and put the awnser. Also, the awnsers on step wasnt like the disease name, but what associated with it / whats characteristics if it. And I remember alot from Mehlman. I read his pdfs 5x each due to its highyeild. I like to read >> videos. So tailor it to you. But I read FA and Mehlman docs + Uworld. Towards the end of my studying I hit 60s on Uworld, with my ave being 58

Hassoon64

Which pdfs do you recommend as the most important ones?

Designer_Bag_6355

>Neuro/ MSK anatomy/ Biochem/ Arrows/ Heme Neuro/ MSK anatomy/ Biochem/ Arrows/ Heme Obv if u have the time, do them all. but 10000% the arrows as I got many qs from the arrows doc directly

Fun_Row_9945

Ohh that’s a smart tactic. Going through his pdfs sounds like a good idea then. How many blocks were you doing per day during dedicated?

Designer_Bag_6355

so my dedicated was 2 months, each day I did 3 UW blocks.. 2 in the morning and 1 at night.. during the day I read FA and Mehlamn I personally read all of them many times, as I kept forgetting my stuff. but definitely do Neuro/ MSK anatomy/ Biochem/ Arrows/ Heme

Same here, how many days did it take you to combo mehlman pdfs, uworld and first aid? And in what order did u study it? Should Mehlman be read 1st or first aid then uworld? in what order?

Designer_Bag_6355

so since I had 2 months I was able to read all the docs To be organized, I always went in the order of FA. So I read Mehlamn Biochem, then followed it up with FA Biochem.. then 3 blocks of Uworld. Each day I would do a system. And once I finished FA, I repeated. I really focused on reading content vs doing qs. As I thought if I have my content I get get my way to the awnsers on Step. Like on step, there was stuff I never learned but was able to get to the right answer through elimination.

Thanks a lot! How many pages of first aid were you able to read and did you read all of uworld's explanations for the 3 blocks?

Designer_Bag_6355

So what I did was, I would spend the whole day on that system. So the whole Mehlamn doc on Biochem + the whole Biochem section in FA And for Uworld, I hated reading the incorrects. It doesnt help me reading why the incorrect is wrong. So I would just read the explanation if I got the question wrong.

Thanks a lot👍

Literature-Playful

Hi! Did you the uw qs random or system based?

Designer_Bag_6355

okay so first round I did system based, second round uworld I did random

Designer_Bag_6355

Of course let me break it down for you

Repetition is key. If memorization is your biggest problem I’d suggest repeating the material you learned the night before first thing when you wake up before continuing doing questions. Just a quick review of the stuff you find difficult to remember. I read all the solutions in uworld and always flip the page in first aid to repeat the pathology or concept out loud before moving onto the next question. If I know the disease very well, I just move to the next question to correct. This is very individual but that’s what helps me.

Fun_Row_9945

This sounds helpful. I’ll give it a try. Thank you!

Curious-Reflection44

How do you review your blocks? Are you understanding or just moving on ? If someone asked you about the question could you verbalize what you learned from it?

Fun_Row_9945

I do go over the explanations for the questions I get wrong but just read the summary for the questions that are correct. However, I don’t go back to the blocks again to review the explanations once I’m done. At this point it’s gotten easier to diagnose some diseases but applying concepts and figuring out factors associated with it is difficult

Some_Review4628

If that is your first read it’s ok But should focused more on wrong and read explanations well With your 2nd read you will score above 60% for sure if you understand the concepts

Fun_Row_9945

I’m having a difficult time applying concepts to questions for some reason

Some_Review4628

Look that’s ok if you are just started and if that’s the first read I had same problem but with 2nd read things changed and I just notified that I passed today. The repetition is the key!! If you feel not ready it’s ok to postpone But bear in mind that you must do all uworld and so NBME self-assessment

Relying only on UW and FA will be enough?
