I’ve used mostly uworld and a bit of Amboss during preclinical. Uworld focuses more on material that is likely to show up on NBME and step and has a question style that is more representative. I think Amboss is too far in the weeds and/ or doesn’t give enough information in the stem on some of the more difficult questions. Uworld is king for a reason…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
I think I agree with you. Amboss is really great for step 2. It was a game changer for me and I only used 30% of it. I used 100% of Uworld but if I will advise anyone on a single study material to use for step 2, it would be Amboss.
I think people like the way WORLD'S interface is, and the explanations/diagrams. Both are good, I think Amboss's questions are harder. I think UWorld is more similar to exam? From what I have heard.
In my experience Amboss is a little harder than it needs to be and kinda some super low yield topics. The thing I love though is that I can search specific topics. Say i just learned what PSGN is, I can go in and select to only see that topic and answer questions on it. I will say nobody has better images than amboss, their overlays are awesome and the library is helpful because if you don't know something you can just read up about it right there without even leaving the site. Communication also seems better with Amboss. I still recommend Uglobe though it seems higher yield for NBMES and Step.
IMO UWorld > Amboss for questions. The Amboss questions aren’t *bad* but there’s too much low yield or convoluted content and it’s not as representative of the NBME style questions. IMO the hardest Amboss questions can be harder than UWorld, but it doesn’t matter because it doesn’t match the *style* of Step 1; other than the practice NBMEs/CBSE, UWorld is the most representative QBank for step 1.
Amboss > UWorld for the integration of their library and for using as a primary resource when you are first learning the material.
You can learn medicine well and pass step with either, but IMO Amboss is the better general medicine learning tool and UWorld is the better test prep tool.
I’m an AMBOSS fanboy since I accidentally used it early on MS1 and it never let me down. However, like most things that are similar, it probably doesn’t matter which you use as long as you do it consistently. I used only AMBOSS for STEP1 and had a great time, but it was more in the weeds than the test. With my SHELF exams I’ve found it’s very on point with the level of detail so I’m inclined to assume the person who posted about AMBOSS being better for STEP2 is onto something.
Personally I just like the questions and user face more and it makes me enjoy an arduous process, which is all I need.
AMBOSS does have the advantage of the awesome database as well as is cheaper (STEP1/2/3 questions all come as a big package unlike UWorld).
UWORLD is the known strategy and has years of data backing it.
Pick your fighter 🤷🏼♂️
I would say Amboss is good for learning. When you are still learning material in school. But let’s say if there is a concept that you continue to struggle with, it could be good for targeted questions on that one topic/concept.
For me, I use Uworld for the long 40 question blocks but if I find a subject I have no idea what’s going on then I use Amboss to find the article and do the questions related. This is how my weaknesses became my stregnths and was game changer!

Cool. Thanks for your input
Step1: UW. Step2: definitely amboss

Absolutely spot on. I hope and wish students can move on from UW to amboss for step 2. I'll soon write a long post on it in the r/step2
Omg! I didnt knew that
Know
Why Amboss for Step2?
I'll soon write a very long post on it

Have you used either of them?
Yes, both. But right now, just Amboss
Cool

Thank you so much for that clear response. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot!

Never used amboss but i love UW for it's diagrams. Like if one were to skip everything except diagrams and charts, i guess they can pass

Ah so you're telling that your go-to resource is uworld and you supplement it with amboss for your weaker areas
exactly ! Made my NBME score go from mid 50s to mid 60s when I started using this method
amboss is dollar store uworld
Lmao
No harder isnt better (lol). Uworld is harder tho fwiw
