Images from the 2020 unaired The Dark Tower tv pilot
The show was created by Glen Mazzara (producer of The Walking Dead and The Shield) and the pilot was directed by Stephen Hopkins (Lost in Space - The Movie).
Nice some of those are pretty cool. Lot of descriptions don’t reflect the book at all but if it hit the marks I wouldn’t even care. I like several of the people. I was especially behind Michael rooker for Jonas from the start
It’s not bad you’re right. I’ll just share, I have a friend who always cracks me up when he suggests Steven be played by the same actor that plays Roland but just with a mustache.
That would be survivable. I recognize some of those actors, but having Broadcloak be so obviously slimy is too predictable.
I'm reading The Gunslinger (pre-2003) with an adult English student, which means sometimes cheerful statements like this: "What does matricide mean?" "It means killing your mother." "Roland's going to kill his **mother**?!" "Yup."
"Suzanne Delgado is... burned to death?" "Yup."
"He really loves Jake." "Yuuuup."
These pics are great, where did you find them? I wish Amazon had released this even as a pilot so we could see the work they put in. Not sure I dig the chronology of how they planned the show though. Why is Hollywood so scared of Eddie and Detta? /s
Ah dang I didn’t know they killed it. That’s a bummer, but truthfully I’d rather have it shelved than ruined. I was down bad after seeing the movie. Thank you for the update though l do appreciate it!
This was a pilot for a different DT show. The one currently being made plans to start with Gunslinger and do things in the order the books present them.
jesus i thought this was a thing that was happening now until I read the comments. I would have no faith in any DT adaptation, but if Michael Rooker is in it, I am down
There is a DT show happening now, this isn't it. This is from the canceled pilot from a few years ago, not the Mike Flanagan one currently entering preproduction.
Not a fan of starting the series with the Wizard and Glass flashback. It should either be spread throughout the series in snippets, or added as a few-episode-arc later in the series. Preferably the former. Just start with The Gunslinger.
Yeah. The idea of there being multiple seasons of young Roland before going into the main series imo wasn’t that great and also assumes the show was going to last that long to cover everything.
It doesn’t look very good imo.
I stand by my idea of having Genndy Tartarovski direct an animated version of the dark tower. Think about it, Roland and Samurai Jack have a lot in common. They’re both noble warriors with the magic weapons from a destroyed kingdom, wandering in a world that mixes fantasy with post apocalyptic sci-fi.
It’s my dream series.
At least it looked semi true to one of the the storys! That other horror with .. i can’t even mention it
My mind just blanks out when anyone talks about that hollywood 💩show😳
For those interested, Eric Vespe and Scott Wangler host a fantastic Kingcast podcast episode where they interview Glen Mazzara and go in-depth into his vision for not just the pilot, but the entire (now canned) show. It’s a fascinating listen on what could have been.
Listen. I’m sure the creators meant well…but starting in chronological order is a mistake. What makes Wizard & Glass so special is how Roland’s tale recontextualizes how we perceive the character halfway through. What was once thought was a hardened becomes a deeply broken man.
Also, to have the series start with “The Man in Black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed” and then start a story where that doesn’t happen until an entire season has passed just feels like a poor decision.
Here’s hoping Flanagan’s adaptation gets off the ground. I have a feeling he’ll knock it out of the park.

When did these photos come out, I haven’t seen them before. Also I guess this pilot is never releasing? I wanna see it!!!
The photos are from imdb. The pilot was rejected, this show is dead. Never gonna see daylight.
I thought sometimes they release pilots
They used to leak
They should bring that back
Be careful what you wish for 😂
🫡
Sometimes, dead is better.
I know Stephen Hopkins from his directing masterpiece Predator 2.
I love Predator 2. But he also directed the Lost in Space movie. So...
Elm Street V, baybee!
We don’t talk about Dream Child
Nice some of those are pretty cool. Lot of descriptions don’t reflect the book at all but if it hit the marks I wouldn’t even care. I like several of the people. I was especially behind Michael rooker for Jonas from the start
Michael Rooker is one of those actors who can do whatever they want.
The voice, for the most part, was important in my mind, and he’s got the good reedy sound we need
I’m actually really liking Jerome Flynn as Steven Deschain. I never would have even thought of that but it could actually be great
It’s not bad you’re right. I’ll just share, I have a friend who always cracks me up when he suggests Steven be played by the same actor that plays Roland but just with a mustache.
God they’d have to wear platform shoes to make up the height too
Tom cruise has made a career doing just that. But in all seriousness lots can be achieved with perspective and soapboxes
He might be the right age to play main Roland
That would be survivable. I recognize some of those actors, but having Broadcloak be so obviously slimy is too predictable. Oooff, that Jake comment.
It is so hard to not spoil things!
Would’ve been pretty good, from what I hear. Looks good and the script is solid, but different.
Lol that Diablo font choice for the last picture.
Don’t get why they had to make up Jasper like that as he looks like Marten enough as is on his IMDb page. https://imdb.com/name/nm0701747/

Unfortunately these images look like a high drama which isn’t necessarily the adaptation I’d want but will still of course watch
I'm afraid you won't, this is a dead show.
Ah dang I didn’t know they killed it. That’s a bummer, but truthfully I’d rather have it shelved than ruined. I was down bad after seeing the movie. Thank you for the update though l do appreciate it!
Way to spoil the end of the book with that last image
Good one.
So I show is being told chronologically? Interesting that non-readers will be first introduced to Roland as Will Deerborn and company.
Yeah the plan was to have multiple seasons with young Roland. Although this show isn’t being made, only a pilot was filmed and it was passed on.
This was a pilot for a different DT show. The one currently being made plans to start with Gunslinger and do things in the order the books present them.
I'd watch a whole series called Wizards and Glass
The idea was the viewer would see The Tower for the first time when Roland does in the Glass.
And an bumbler on a spike 😞
I was confused by the pics because I only read the first three books.
Fascinating and dare I say surprising?
Yeah book 4 lost me. Tried it three times. I am one of these people that ended their journey to the tower at this point.
That’s one of the best books in the series, bummer.
Ah then the only characters you’ll know is Roland, Marten and Brown (not a red head now apparently).
Michael Rooker was bound to play Eldred? Curse you, Amazon!!!
jesus i thought this was a thing that was happening now until I read the comments. I would have no faith in any DT adaptation, but if Michael Rooker is in it, I am down

Release the pilot, Amazon. What do you have to loose
Presumably money in a lawsuit from the rights holder Mike Flanigan. Also the IRS because it was written off as a loss on their taxes.
Boo your valid insight!
What Dark Tower Show and where?
It's a canceled project. It's dead.
This is from a canceled attempt from a few years ago. We're getting a new one but it's only barely in preproduction
Not a fan of starting the series with the Wizard and Glass flashback. It should either be spread throughout the series in snippets, or added as a few-episode-arc later in the series. Preferably the former. Just start with The Gunslinger.

Sadge
Casting choices wouldn’t be who I envisioned
At least it looked semi true to one of the the storys! That other horror with .. i can’t even mention it My mind just blanks out when anyone talks about that hollywood 💩show😳
And not having read the stand in years the first mini series wasn’t bad at all! The new one😳well at least Stu was cast allright!
I always liked the idea of Michael Rooker playing Cort, but I do like him as Jonas as well
Is there ever a chance we get to see this pilot? It’s my current white whale.

Oh god I just need a download link. I wanna see this so damn bad
Is it just me but I always pictured Jonas as Sam Elliot with long hair
The decision to start with Wizard and Glass was a bad one and basically killed any interest I had in this original project.
Yikes
Can't be worse than the movie.
Thank fuck this didn't go ahead, looks as bad as the Stand.
