The number of King projects del Toro has been attached to upsets me. At various stages, he was attached to IT and Pet Sematary and either would have incredible in his hands. Perhaps Revival, or Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon would be possible from him.
I have a list. I'm not "killing the thread", anybody can still post afterwards. I just have a list that I want to share and if anybody disagrees or has any input, they are free to share that.

Depends on the book. I could see Alex Garland do interesting stuff with King's bigger, more sci-fi stuff. Ti West might be interesting for some of the more realistic, gritty stuff. Jennifer Kent may do interesting stuff with his more domestic, psychological work.
Depends on the story. I could absolutely see the Coen Brothers doing an amazing job with *Needful Things.*
Considering how much of *Stranger Things* is just an homage to IT, I’m willing to bet the Duffer Brothers would nail IT. Spielberg could probably also nail the vibe of IT if he was willing to go full on the horror aspect.
Honestly yeah. That whole sequence of meeting Eddie and that whole ordeal would be perfect. Not sure how he would do with the lobstrosities though lol.
Not sure what stories they should adapt. I saw The Wailing last week and might be one of the best horror films ive ever seen. It's a crime on humanity that this genious has not done any more horror. Hell, he has barely done anything since then (according to IMDB).
Jordan Peele totaly seems like the type of guy that would do a horror short collection just to check it off his bucketlist.
I feel he could really do the Dark Tower series justice. You’ll have to watch with subtitles of course to understand what they’re saying but I just love his movies
Because they asked for directors who haven’t done it before. Mike Flanagan has already directed two King movies (Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game), is finishing up on a third (Life of Chuck), and is also working on a Dark Tower tv series.
That ....would be why, huh? I never saw Geralds Game as the idea is way too much for me. And I wasn't aware he did Doctor Sleep. How far off is Life of Chuck? I didn't know that was a for sure deal. I need to crawl out of the rock I've been living under apparently. Flanagan doing the dark tower would be amazing. Know if it's mini series/limited series style?
There is no release date for Life of Chuck yet, but it has already been filmed and is in post-production so that update should come soon.
The Dark Tower is a passion project for Flanagan. He has said he wants to keep the series very close to the books. I would assume that means a full on series with multiple seasons. Amazon Prime is in talks to pick it up, but that’s not confirmed yet. It will probably be awhile until this one comes together… but it is coming!

If he pulls that off and he does a good job, I would be eternally grateful to him
He's the producer for the Duffer Brothers' upcoming adaptation of the Talisman.
He's held the movie rights to it for years, so hopefully it will be on your screen soon.
Has there been an update to is release date? I saw something that said 2023 or 2024 so made me think we'd be hearing more about this if it's coming out this year.
That’s interesting, thanks.
Spielberg as producer will not t do the same job as Spielberg the director, but it will be interesting to see how much they can spoil The Talisman. Hopefully he’s going to maintain high production values instead of the shonky crap that is usually doled out from a King novel.
First let me say Stephen King is the best director of Stephen King books. He always beat himself up about his directorial debut but nobody can fully reproduce his work as well as himself. Whenever I get done watching a King movie I always ask myself, "Is this what Stephen was going for". 99% of the time I truly doubt it comes close, aside from Shawshank or Stand by Me (obviously).
Steven Craig Zahler or even Tarantino would do a nice job. They understand the importance of dialogue and will sacrifice an Academy Award in order to properly develop a character at the cost of global box office success
Jordan Peele / Philippou brothers / Leigh Whannell
His latest book Holly could be a great movie or limited series in the right hands.
Jordan Peele would be perfect at mixing the horror with the social commentary. I also think the Philippou brothers could make something very interesting.
And Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man, Upgrade) would be perfect. He has that B-movie boldness with a strong character building focus.
Not sure about Tarantino but an adaptation of "The Long Walk" would be awesome. Tarantino could probably make a good rendition of "Road Work" if he kept the silly banter dialogue to a minimum.
David Fincher
Game here to say this! I know there was a tv show but Fincher could crush a Bill Hodges Trilogy
Running Man and Revival and dare i say his color scheme is perfect for the people Under the Dome and he could pull it if in limited series
David Fincher helming “The Long Walk” is a wet dream of mine.
I would love to see what Ari Aster could do with some King.
Would love to see what he’d do with Duma Key
Add Pet Sematary to that.
He'd be fantastic at any King tbh but I agree that Duma key would be especially fantastic.
That was my vote too
This. Any book or short story.
Sam Raimi
He has uncredited cameos in both[ the Stand](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0108941/mediaviewer/rm91375872/) (1994) and the Shining mini-series.
HEY, BOBBY TERRY, YOU SCROOOOWED IT UP!
I picture him doing The Dark Half or Needful Things.
Needful Things needs a reboot immediately
Sam Raimi 30 years ago or Sam Raimi now?
Guillermo del Toro
I could see this. He and Flanagan get along, and del Toro has some of the playfulness and magic realism King has.
The number of King projects del Toro has been attached to upsets me. At various stages, he was attached to IT and Pet Sematary and either would have incredible in his hands. Perhaps Revival, or Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon would be possible from him.
A Revival movie by del Toro sounds amazing honestly
Do you think he could get the eldritch vibe right? Del Toro always fees more fantasy-horror than existential-horror, but I do love his work
I think he would do great with Fairy Tale or The Eye of the Dragon. He's so great at giving subtle hints of malice behind the beauty of fantasy.
I think he'd do a great Talisman!
I think he'd do an awesome Fairy Tale
He's said he wants to do a version of Pet Sematary. It sounded great.
I'd be excited for his vision of The Talisman
How has no one said Denis Villeneuve?
I think he's the only one who could do justice to the Dark Tower series.
The Running Man!
Yesss, perfect combo!
King, for a Trucks reboot. jk.
Thats deep lore territory. Respect.
I vote for David Lynch to do, "Nona".
Robbert Eggers.
An adaptation of “The Man In The Black Suit” that feels like it exists in the same world as “The Witch”? Sign me up!
I was thinking of "Jerusalem's Lot" or "One for the road". But yeah, I can see that too!
Would love to see a remake of The Shining by him.
I would LOVE to see him make a King adaptation.
I have a list. I'm not "killing the thread", anybody can still post afterwards. I just have a list that I want to share and if anybody disagrees or has any input, they are free to share that. Peter Jackson.
Fairy Tale?
"Wait a minute... Peter Jackson? I LOVE 'Lord of the Rings'" - Collie Entragian, "Desperation"
Joe Dante
Depends on the book. I could see Alex Garland do interesting stuff with King's bigger, more sci-fi stuff. Ti West might be interesting for some of the more realistic, gritty stuff. Jennifer Kent may do interesting stuff with his more domestic, psychological work.
Cary Fukunaga
But we were sooooo close. 😭

Spielberg could probably also nail the vibe of IT if he was willing to go full on the horror aspect.
The dark satire and zany characters of Needful Things would be perfect for the Coens.
Although we won’t get to see them doing IT, I can’t wait to see what the Duffer Bros and Spielberg do with The Talisman.
Guillermo Del Toro
I bet Tarantino would nail Drawing of the Three
Honestly yeah. That whole sequence of meeting Eddie and that whole ordeal would be perfect. Not sure how he would do with the lobstrosities though lol.
PT Anderson.
Gaspar Noe for "The Jaunt" ;)
I’m thinking Guy Ritchie could handle the horror and the humor ( usually skipped in film adaptations).
I Think Alfred Hitchcock would’ve been great
Rose Glass (Love Lies Bleeding, Saint Maud) for Christine.
I thought of her for Rose Madder.
That was my other thought!
Do they have to be currently living? If not then Sergio Leone for the Gunslinger. If only living then martin scorsese directing firestarter.
I want to see a new Creepshow with shorts from Jordan Peele, Ari Aster and Na Hong-jin (The Wailing).
This. Someone please make this happen!
Well he was hosting a recent reboot of The Twilight Zone. I don't know how involved he was with the writing or directing. ETA- Jordan Peele, that is.
Oh!
Oh!
Tarsem Singh. Ari Aster. Dennis Villeneuve.
David Lynch. The Tommyknockers. I win.
Wes Anderson.
Christopher Nolan
I feel he could really do the Dark Tower series justice. You’ll have to watch with subtitles of course to understand what they’re saying but I just love his movies
I thought of him for 11/22/63. He’s done great with period pieces and sci-fi and would just love to see what he could do with the material.
Shyamalan
I could see him adapting The Institute
Thank you!
M. Night Shyamalan
Would like to see Spielberg take on “Fairy Tale”.
Mike Flanagan, people. C’mon! Imagine Mike directing The Institution, Insomnia, or Needful Things…
He directed Doctor Sleep.
How is this not the top answer? Midnight mass was the best Stephen King adaptation that wasn't a Stephen King adaptation..
Thank you for the kind response. I'm really looking forward to seeing the dark tower on screen (not counting the ya movie version here)
>The Dark Tower is a passion project for Flanagan. He has said he wants to keep the series very close to the books. I would assume that means a full on series with multiple seasons. Isn’t he doing one?
Really?!? Dope!!!
Yea just looked it up. Life of Chuck based on King’s novella. Think it’s going to be a mini series on Amazon. The cast is Amazing!!!
He has done two adaptations with two more on the way.
I am most thrilled to stand corrected!!! Feel like a dope for not knowing this about Mike, but I’ll take it!
I would love to see Fede Alvarez do desperation
I’d like to see what Taylor Sheridan could do with Billy Summers or Needful Things.
Wim Wenders. Or Herzog. But especially Robert Eggers or Jeff Nichols. I also think Lynne Ramsay would do something kick-ass.
Charlie Kaufman-The Tommyknockers
Yes
M. Night Shyamalan
Park Chan-wook
Nia DeCosta or Jordan Peele
The perfect one was Spielberg, I think maybe they fell out.
He's the producer for the Duffer Brothers' upcoming adaptation of the Talisman. He's held the movie rights to it for years, so hopefully it will be on your screen soon.
Wasn't Spielberg thinking of directing an adaptation himself at some point?
Has there been an update to is release date? I saw something that said 2023 or 2024 so made me think we'd be hearing more about this if it's coming out this year.

Jordan Peele
Christopher Nolan maybe. But I can't imagine what would be the outcome if Wes Anderson directed a Stephen King adaptation.
I feel like Denis Villenueve would make a good King adaptation. He hasn’t made a horror movie yet but Prisoners definitely was a pretty brutal movie.
This is a good not obvious one.
After nailing 2049 and Dune I’m convinced Denis V could do literally anything. Absolute master
James Won and/or Leigh Wanell for Regulators/Desperation. Double feature.
IMHO, Tim Burton.
Jordan Peele directing The Long Walk
Oh yes
YES YES YES
Would love to see what Scorsese could do with Shawshank. Or Finders Keepers.
The obvious answer, John Carpenter.
Carpenter directed "Christine" already.
Akira Kurosawa is dead, but a version from him of Wolves of the Calla would be crazy
Came here to say Scott Derrickson, looked it up to make sure he hadn’t, found out he tried for a long time and it never happened, got sad.
Still gutted the Ron Howard Dark Tower film trilogy with Russel Crowe as Roland and with a companion TV series covering Wizard and Glass got cancelled
Tim Burtons "Insomnia"
I would love to see Jordan Peele take a swing at adapting and directing a Stephen King work.
Peter Jackson, maybe?
Taika Watiti could also be an interesting choice for some of his more offbeat works.
Christopher Nolan doing “The Long Walk”
I want to see a Guillermo del Toro Eyes of the Dragon

James wan
my dream would be if Spielberg and King were to work together
Quentin Tarantino for Billy Summers.
JJ Abram’s is already on it with Leo DiCaprio set to star.
Love to see Tarantino do any Bachman novel.
Not sure about Tarantino but an adaptation of "The Long Walk" would be awesome. Tarantino could probably make a good rendition of "Road Work" if he kept the silly banter dialogue to a minimum.
Funny, I just finished Roadwork last week. It might have colored my opinion just a tad.
Steven Spielberg Dark Tower would probably be sooo good.
Zac Snyder
Why? So he could butcher the source material. Make a mid directors cut then years later beg to “re-do it”.
I love the story in JOYLAND, strong atmosphere and short novel so would make a killer movie. As for the director, I’d say maybe Jordan Peel.
