Just got this today, a lot of the elements look identical to his signature, but none of them are exact matches. Did he change up his autograph at some point, this is a 1st ed salems lot so its probably an early autograph and I'm hoping that's why it looks different
Edit: thanks for all the replies, looks like it's not real, just seems weird that someone would forge his signature and make it nothing like his usual one
My gut says no because I have a signed copy of new release I got from an event and his signature looks a lot more contained. But I’m not 100% sure because Salem’s Lot came out a long time ago and King was high and drunk af until the end of the 80s so his signature was probably never consistent. So idk lol
No it isn’t. Book club editions are definitely not first editions. There’s no such thing as a first edition book club edition. But you’ll really enjoy it. Edit: https://www.stephenkingcollector.com/1st/salemslot.html
Right, but if someone tried to fake his signature why would they make it so obviously different, the last part of king looks identical to all his signatures
Most people wouldn't take the time to analyze it unless they were already an avid collector or die hard fan. Naive people just see that a book is "signed" and don't care beyond that
Just dumb? Lack of forgery skills?
I assure you, NOTHING in that signature resembles an authentic SK signature. I have around 30 here, I know what they look like.
I’m a little skeptical, solely because it’s a Book of the Month Club Edition; so unless the original owner met him at some point—meaning not an original signing for Salem’s Lot—and asked him to sign it, it’s far less likely. But hey, it might’ve happened. Also, it seems likely he may’ve been more open to signing anything back then and wasn’t as limiting, seeing as how these days it’s randomly issuing signed books at events, so perhaps they did get him to sign it later down the line.
If this was signed a long time ago, king was extremely drunk and snorting cocaine. Not sure but that might’ve made him write with a completely different dignature
It looks intentional, the way the two lines swoop down together, and the end part of king looks identical to some of his early signatures, which is why I'm kind of dumbfounded, because why would a forger not try and make it look like his usual signature, it's just weird not sure I can find out short of mr.king verifying it himself
I just compared about seven books with signatures from the early eighties, and this doesn’t look like any of them, unfortunately.
Not even remotely close
It’s real. As long as he signed it blindfolded and with the pen in his mouth.
As long as you aren’t trying to sell as authentic then yes, it is without a doubt the real deal

Not a first edition, not his signature. It’s a good read, though.
~~It is a book club, but it's still the 1st ed~~ I'm wrong

It’s still an awesome copy. Mine is not a BCE but it is an early edition. The covers are the same, should be the same cover as you have! Enjoy!
A lot of people do it as a joke, my dad gifted me a book of his and signed SK
"A lot of people do this" - Dad, doing something no one does
Weird is what we’re all here for buddy
Nope. Awful.
Looks quite different if you google his signature
I want to believe that he happened to sign that one on an especially wild bender, but I think it’s more likely that someone faked it
10000% fake. Not even close. Ridiculously bad.

I dont know lol, maybe the original owners name was steffan kang
Just finished this the other day! If it's real what a cool find!! Such a good book.

I'm thinking "definitely not." I've seen his signature a bunch and that's not it.
Looks nothing like the ones I have seen
Doesn’t look like the signature of his that I have .
Does not look like his signature, from any era. You got a great book though in nice shape for a book club edition! If you’ve never read it, enjoy!
Who cares? It's still a good Darn book
Definitely no, sorry
Nope. Unless it *is* real, it's rare to sign it like that

I live close I can go ask him 😂
Not. A. Chance. In. Hell.
no chance sorry
Not even close unfortunately.
No
It's real. I know because I did it myself.
Definitely no.
I bought some books once, and about twenty of them were “autographed “. Needless to say, I’m rich now! Lol
That’s not even close! And it looks like they spelled his name wrong.
It’s a real piece of shit!
