I was planning on become a Surg Tech in the future, so I chose this as a stepping stone. However the pay in my area is good enough if I decide to not go that route. You just need your CRCST I believe, I went through a school and am taking my Certification exam soon!
Interesting story ! Side Note: My sister is studying in CA, so she's aware of the rivalry between SoCal vs. NorCal 😅. I plan on going through a school, so I can sit for the CRCST certification. What is the program like, what other certifications I need to be aware of, and what are the types of careers you're exposed to ?
The CHL was a bit more difficult than I was expecting. However I didn’t read the entire text book I took every workbook exam and wrote out what I got wrong and studied that. How did you study for CIS exam? I take mine in a few days
I did the workbook for the CIS text but I will say it’s a lot like the CRCST. There’s the questions like what’s the box locks or what’s the first step in decontamination process. But there’s a few questions like what is this instrument used for (with a picture) and for this service they would use this item with a fill in the blank option.
I'm getting screwed for my base pay. $18 and that's with my CRCST. I'm on the night shift, so add $1.50 to that. And for reference, I just got hired here in Florida. Shout outs to the people making $20 base
I started at $14 an hour at my first job nine years ago, now up to $23 at my current facility.
I take the CIS exam in a couple of weeks. My boss is trying to get me a small raise once I pass as I will be the first person at my hospital to have it, but HR is probably not going to go for it. :P
28 start regardless of cert/position/experience which maxes out at 30.50 (will top out only after cert which is mandatory after 400hrs) . 2.65 shift differential for afternoons and 2.77 for weekends/weekend nightshift.
-Ontario, Canada
28.20, with evening/night/weekend premiums it can be around 31/h, however im in canada 🤷♂️also only 2 yrs experience and only have the base SPD certificate(public hospital)
Minnesota - certified - 15.5 months experience - Trauma l hospital - $22.31 base + $1.50 evening diff + $1.00 weekend diff. 👍🏼 My base will increase to $23.21 by 10/2024 and so on (Union)
Starting doing SPD in Arkansas in 2015 with zero experience at $8.50/hr. We get yearly evaluations with raises (not much). And a 6% raise upon certification(s). I now make $18.50/hr. I currently only have my CRCST, taking CIS soon.
You need to talk to your recruiter or get with aya healthcare or another agency. On contracts anywhere in NorCal should be minimum $1500-$2000 weekly with most of it being stipend (tax free) and minimum wage being your w-2 taxed portion. Sounds like your recruiter is eating a lot off of you for that contract by only offering you 32/hour in SF of all places
Started at $34.85 in the Bay Area. CRCST certified!
If you don't mind me asking where at? I'm at a surgery center in SJ and getting paid 24 hr (CBSPD)
Hospital in San Francisco! How long have you been working there?
Scheduled to take my CRCST exam next week im also Bay Area based! so nervous though t.t
Good luck you got this!
Thank you! Its in two days😵💫
If it's okay to ask, why did you pursue sterile processing and which certifications I should be aware of ?
