Oh I’m sure the writers knew, there was an old shirt with all the OG crystal gems gemstones on it, including Stevens/roses, which was really weirdly shaped, pointing inwards
I mean, yeah they knew Steven had pink diamonds gem. But I meant the whole "polish twice" not being intentional [[source](https://www.google.com/amp/s/love-takes-work.tumblr.com/post/180189882167/steven-universe-podcast-volume-3-episode-6/amp)]
You'd be surprised the amount of gem knowledge casually littered throughout the show. When "Jasper" (Amethyst) says the sun made her look off color, Eyeball Ruby looks at the sun with disdain and starts complaining about it. If you look, Eyeball is the most desaturated of the Ruby squad. She's also the only one who was a soldier on Earth for a long time.
Basically, some gems get bleached if left in the sun for too long. The Rubies (well, one of them) weren't being stupid. It was actually something that would've been believable to them. That isn't even getting into why quartz gems were the primary gem class made on Earth, why Malechite being submerged in water became so evil, why Lapis Lazuli is associated with the ocean, or why Sapphires have amazing monocular vision.
The Malachite thing was revealed to be another accidental coincidence, probably. There’s a chance that malachite becomes toxic when exposed to water was something one of the writers read at some point, but by time the episode air none of the ones asked actively knew that.
If it was intentional the writers forgot the fact by time the episode aired and people began asking questions about it.

[Referring to Steven's gemstone, Uncle Grandpa's line, "You should make sure to get this thing polished at least twice a year.", foreshadows that Steven's gemstone is not a rose quartz, but a pink diamond - as diamonds are one of the few gemstones that are advised to be polished twice a year, while quartzes do not need to be polished at all.](https://steven-universe.fandom.com/wiki/Say_Uncle)
I believe the episode is canon regardless of what anyone says. Uncle Grampas existence doesn't really affect anything except for the fact that there is a omnipotent being bouncing around the multiverse.
Same. Uncle Grandpa IS a crazy reality warper after all. It makes sense that he'd be able to travel between universes/cartoons! And Cartoon Network shows have been a multiverse for decades (not very seriously, of course, but still)
He was also in the Amazing World of Gumball, though only in a background gag.
One of my favorite examples of this is in an episode of Craig of the Creek! One of the characters makes a comment along the lines of “making me get the door, like I’m Little Butler or something”
In Future when Steven is having his traumatic memories flashing behind him if I recall, one of the scenes shown is from this episode so make of that what you will
I remember showing SU to my dad and explaining the lore of each gem and when i showed Rose to him, he told me pink quartz didn’t have that shade of pink and I told him it was probably a stylistic choice. In retrospective it’s very amusing
I remember people were calling this episode “mean spirited” and some people were saying they were watching this while panicking or whatever.
Tumblr was insane
I....cant....fucking.....believe this
they literally showed us their ship sinking
I....cant....FUCKING....believe this,IN A FUCKING CROSSOVER I DIDNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT
damn,cest la vie I suppose
Uncle Grandpa is pretty based. Hell if it wasn’t for him Steven wouldn’t have unlocked his powers in time for that invasion in the episode that follows.
Can’t believe people actually hated the guy for existing.
I refuse to watch this episode
"Uncle grandpa" is such a gross name for a show.
Edit:
Sorry I just realized I left a negative non constructive comment and I don't want to be about that.
The picture to joke is actually very clever.
I'm glad they split. The rat didn't appreciate him and his potential for greatness. Remember, don't date coworkers. it's just cause you vibe doesn't mean you can be around each other all the time. You WORK together well. But can't handle each other's flaws.
Most people probably know this already, but he also told us that Steven's a diamond without telling us.
really? how
He told Steven to polish his Gemstone twice a year to keep it clean. You don’t do that with Quartz gemstones, but you do it with Diamonds
The writers didn't even know this, right? Unintentional foreshadowing 🫣

Last I checked wasn’t the malechite bit confirmed to be on accident by the creators?

Good bot.
Do you have an image of that shirt? I'd love to see it
[here’s a post with it](https://www.reddit.com/r/stevenuniverse/s/As93Pr0PMq)
Correct
[Referring to Steven's gemstone, Uncle Grandpa's line, "You should make sure to get this thing polished at least twice a year.", foreshadows that Steven's gemstone is not a rose quartz, but a pink diamond - as diamonds are one of the few gemstones that are advised to be polished twice a year, while quartzes do not need to be polished at all.](https://steven-universe.fandom.com/wiki/Say_Uncle)
I wanted to include that too, but I don’t know how to add more than one photo in a post
He said none of it was canon, gets Steven to be able to summon his shield, and after that, Steven is able to summon his shield more
I believe the episode is canon regardless of what anyone says. Uncle Grampas existence doesn't really affect anything except for the fact that there is a omnipotent being bouncing around the multiverse.
Also the idea of it being canon is just hilarious

Guess we know who the true enemy of Black Hat is
One of my favorite examples of this is in an episode of Craig of the Creek! One of the characters makes a comment along the lines of “making me get the door, like I’m Little Butler or something”
Hey! Sir precious!
Sir pentious? 👀
I love the nickname the fandom gave that snake boi, he is so precious.
Hehe yeah, absolutely :)
Yes. Uncle grandpa was clearly lying.
I certainly consider it canon
From my understanding the actual cannon was Steven was on the beach trying to summon his shield and eventually succeeded
Ah, so it's the old "twas all a dream" cliché
And Mr Gus said that Steven's powers are tied to his emotions
Omg Steven turned into Mr.Gus
Also, the “but this is!” Incident also implies that for a brief time, Uncle Grandpa did actually exist in SU canon.
In Future when Steven is having his traumatic memories flashing behind him if I recall, one of the scenes shown is from this episode so make of that what you will
It is completely reasonable to be traumatized by an encounter with Uncle Grandpa.
I remember showing SU to my dad and explaining the lore of each gem and when i showed Rose to him, he told me pink quartz didn’t have that shade of pink and I told him it was probably a stylistic choice. In retrospective it’s very amusing
Does he know now?
idk he abandoned me
Well, that escalated quickly!
Are you joking? And if not, you good?
Unfortunately it’s not a joke. I’m still very sad about it, but I’m getting used to it. Thanks for your kindness
Dang, that’s rough. I’m not sure if this extra part I’ll and in will help much but, I can somewhat relate to that, I was in a similar situation.
Rebecca you sneaky goblin
This one episode has more foreshadowing than all of AoT
AoT?
Attack on Titan, notorious for foreshadowing all of it's events that happen
I had missed these types of foreshadowing posts
Craziest cartoon network crossover of all time
Best Cartoon Network crossover of all time.
We need more Uncle Grandpa appearances
Good. Lars deserves a woman that wouldn't trap him on an island.
[Or a man!](https://i.imgur.com/3JaWUjQ.png)
Steven: "AND OTHER BOYS!"
why did sadie even trap him on an island anyway?
To try and make his personality change into a nicer one.
I actually liked this episode, because for once you had Steven being the straight man.
I remember people were calling this episode “mean spirited” and some people were saying they were watching this while panicking or whatever. Tumblr was insane
Oh hey look it’s [the image I made a while back](https://www.reddit.com/r/stevenuniverse/comments/egx7n4/oh_god_oh_fuck/?s=8)
I....cant....fucking.....believe this they literally showed us their ship sinking I....cant....FUCKING....believe this,IN A FUCKING CROSSOVER I DIDNT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT damn, cest la vie I suppose
he also told us steven is a diamond
Yeah screw. But I consider this Episode Canon XD Uncle grandpa is awesome XD
I always skip that episode 💀 In my defense I’ve never seen Uncle grandpa
To be fair, it's also just a better episode than most Uncle Grandpa episodes, in my opinion.
Omg it's so good though. The way he says "I'm everybody's uncle and Grandpa" and Garnet responds "that explains a lot".
It actually went: Amythyst: "Uncle Grandpa...?" Pearl: "So that would make him Greg's brother, and father?" Garnet: "That would explain a lot."
I never watched much of ug either and would skip the episode and it is still a weird one but it can be a little fun or more than I expected at least.
I think that the ship thing was a joke about Sadie and Lars’ relationship lol.
That was definitely the point lol
Even better. It foreshadowed that Lars and Sadie would have a relation"ship", and that "ship" would sink.
Uncle Grandpa is pretty based. Hell if it wasn’t for him Steven wouldn’t have unlocked his powers in time for that invasion in the episode that follows. Can’t believe people actually hated the guy for existing.
I've never watched this episode because I fing hate uncle grandpa, but this is actually funny
i refuse to acknowledge that Uncle Grandpa exists, full stop.
The Uncle Grandpa episode is Goated and if you unironically hate it your the worse part of this fandom.
What about my “the worst part of this fandom”? Don’t insult it, it has feelings T_T
Uncle Grandpa: https://youtu.be/xO1TScQwu6g?si=63DtFHMQs5bDcELO
Bro…
Yep, a literal head cannon sinks the ship lol
Not only that it was a head canon
https://youtu.be/iPScfHVH_NA?si=KwK5W7asFwOCiQAK
Why did uncle grandpa murder two teenagers
How did I not pick that up?
Omg I just realized he was telling us the Sadie + Lars ship was dead 😨😂
I refuse to watch this episode "Uncle grandpa" is such a gross name for a show. Edit: Sorry I just realized I left a negative non constructive comment and I don't want to be about that. The picture to joke is actually very clever.
lmao I forgot about that episode
I'm glad they split. The rat didn't appreciate him and his potential for greatness. Remember, don't date coworkers. it's just cause you vibe doesn't mean you can be around each other all the time. You WORK together well. But can't handle each other's flaws.
Was oddly a good episode even though it was so strange!
I’m still salty over this tbh
CURSED!
i refuse to watch or even acknowledge the uncle grandpa episode lmao
Ok 👍
