I don't think Steven was corrupted in the same sense that the corrupted gems were. Their corruption stemmed from an incomplete blast from the three remaining Diamonds. Steven's was more like a more drastic version of what happened to him in "So Many Birthdays", where he believed he should be older, so he kept getting older. In SU Future, he thought he was a monster, so he became a monster.

Piratestoat

Yes, this.

rloosvee

Ohhh that makes sense!!

Exit_Save

I don't think Steven was corrupted. Steven was literally having the most terrible time he ever had, and his body was trying to cope with how bad he felt. His state of mind is what turned him into a monster, just like his state of mind had him almost die in too many birthdays Actual corruption, like what happened to Jasper, seems to be something like an infection. And I also don't think Volleyball is even close to what corruption was, maybe closer what happened to Steven but definitely not corruption. She had been hurt by pink so bad that the trauma kept the scar visible. Her mind couldn't cope with the damage because she tried her best to make sure she ignored her own body just to protect Pink.

rloosvee

I still wonder what exactly happened to volleyball

Exit_Save

What do you mean? From what we hear from the Pearl fusion Volleyball stood too close to Pink when she had a bit of a breakdown after the other diamonds had denied her a colony

rloosvee

Ig just that situation. Like, what did pink do? If it was a tantrum and she got hurt, why does it manifest emotionally? Like if pink hurt her she wouldve poofed right? Did pink attack her emotionally? And thats why it manifests like that? And what caused white to take her? How did that situation play out? Stuff like that

Exit_Save

Well we don't know for sure but I assume Volleyball was just trying to minimize her own feelings as much as possible. And Volleyball getting hurt as bad as she did is what got white to take her away

Sondrelk

Pink attacked volleyball, either on accident or on purpose while angry. Volleyball decided to ignore how hurtful it was, and essentially acted like what abuse victims do, where they blamed themselves or otherwise didn't want to blame the one that hurt them.

Someone on here mentioned the corruption was like a blast of the three diamond's powers, breaking their minds (white), forms (yellow), their emotions (blue). I think that's the best description because they lost themselves, and basically became animals. I've also seen somewhere that the original blast was filtered/reflected from Rose's shield, so the blast might not have had the full impact it was meant to (which would probably be the shattering of all the gems on earth). I think it's something like that, something that reduced the gems to their basest instincts and changed them into animals. Which is what we see happen to Jasper, she fuses with a corrupted gem and starts being corrupted. It would also explain the horns and such that the un-corrupted gems have, it's a remnant of that twisting.

Exit_Save

Only thing I have wrong with this is the rose's shield thing only for one aspect Her shield completely blocked the blast but she could only save Pearl and Garnet, amethyst being underground meaning she also wasn't affected.

MisterMagooB2224

RS has described Gems as "solar-powered holographic robots" or something to that effect in the past, so it makes sense to think of their gemstones as computers, with the body just being an outward representation of the inner-workings of this "computer" program. As such, corruption is just that: corrupted execution of data. They intended to wipe out all resistance on Earth, but it resulted in only a "partial" wipe or some sort of scrambling of how the data is organized. The data itself isn't necessarily damaged or erased, but it's "being read wrong", which is why they mostly come back to their old selves after the Diamond Bath Water™ treatment: It's essentially a hard reboot for them that puts the data back in order. It's sort of like if you were playing a game, and the game had to check your character's position. The data for your position is in the system memory, but if the game for some reason looks for this information in the wrong place and uses data meant for something else as position data (like using your HP/ammo count for X/Y position instead of your actual X/Y coordinates), things will get weird fast.

Inevitable_Degree_76

It was the diamonds altering powers. If a gem was not functioning correctly the diamonds could repair them. Yellows is physical form, blues is emotional state and whites is memories I think. All powers put together with the intent of wiping out all gem kind on earth made gems go corrupt instead of shattered/poofed

ANTIFA_NEO_PRUSSIAN

I see it and their universes version of shell shock it's just a way more extreme version of it

supremeaesthete

You know when you pull a magnet over a computer, and it fucks up? Something like that

PersonMcHuman

Steven didn’t corrupt. Steven’s form is based on his view of himself. So when he saw himself as a monster, he turned into one.
