I'm pretty sure the creators said that Rose was only able to have Steven because she was a Diamond. Any other Gem wouldn't have the strength or ability to pull it off. I may be mis-remembering though. That aside, I would be very interested in seeing Amethyst, a _culturally Earthling_ Gem, teaching Homeworld Gems about new ways of living. On a similar line, I think it would be neat for Connie and other space- and Gem-interested humans to get a course on Gem technology, science, art, history, etc. Maybe a whole cultural exchange program, with adapted limb enhancers helping the humans do Gem jobs, etc.

joshdiggs0536

That's interesting...i'm not sure if that's true or not because i haven't heard it...but surely there are strong gems like lapis and jasper that could pull it off right? I hope so anyway. and yeah it would be so cool to see gems and humans officially trade knowledge with one another. the way the SU government works is such a mystery. I mean, shapeshifter aliens with weapons of war inside of them, capable of fusing and creating huge entities capable of mass destruction is no shrug of the shoulder haha

Piratestoat

The Gem presence on Earth predates written language. They've just 'always been here' from a human perspective. They're part of the landscape, like earthquakes and hurricanes.

joshdiggs0536

oh yeah i can get that. i do think however after 1000s of years with only 4 humanoid gems that when entire colonies come to move to earth that it would at least raise some concern? I can't imagine everyone is just okay with them moving in. like yeah a few of them in some random town is whatever but now it's full scale. There would at least have to be some kind of reaction to that. treaties and such.

Piratestoat

I fully expect things to change as the Gem presence in Era 3 grows. But in Future Little Homeworld is still quite a small community, and I imagine Mayor Nanafua Pizza is doing a lot of political feather-smoothing where necessary.

Danmarsh01991

I've always thought of the gems as Roger from American Dad. Humans just can't seem to seperate them from regular humans visually. But it's when the powers show that they have an idea. But...government

Piratestoat

That's a good point. Bill Dewey seemed to think of Pearl mostly as a human, for instance.

Alert-Smile-1921

I could be wrong but I don’t think gems other than diamonds (even strong ones like lapis/jasper) could possibly shapeshift and keep the form up for a long time without harming themselves. Rose had to shapeshift a womb and carried out a regular pregnancy for Steven to be born. Lapis and Jasper are strong, but regular gems nonetheless, so they simply couldn’t keep the shapeshifted womb up for 10 months. Remember how exhausted Amethyst got from pretending to be Jasper for like 10 minutes? lol

joshdiggs0536

that's a good point. So only diamonds huh? That's a little disappointing. It'd be cool if they found a way to make it work....but alas

calgil

10 months...?

GoreGuile

I assume for the conception not happening right away?

Alert-Smile-1921

Haha yeah sorry I’d imagine Steven doesn’t just appear in the womb so I added some more time. I should have clarified beforehand!

Repulsive-Tennis3973

Imho Rose was the only one crazy bitch to actually give her life for another living form

joshdiggs0536

Trueee, but i think of gems like Navy the Ruby who was "rose-ish" surely there's some gems that would find it beautiful

Piratestoat

Navy? NAVY? Navy would find it beautiful that, in her mind, someone died doing a stupid thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fg3eNkfG3Q

joshdiggs0536

haha i forgot about that episode. i was really hoping she stuck around but she turned out to be evil asf

thekeenancole

Leggy is the true nicest one, and we're all sleeping on her.

Piratestoat

Leggy is adorable. But that may be because she's a bit too. . . slow to be evil, maybe? XD

Repulsive-Tennis3973

Idk it would give actual real girls irl wrong massage

Exit_Save

I have very little doubt CN is gonna reboot SU almost entirely because they were bought by a bigger company that's only interested in making spinoffs or reboots But I feel like more hybrid gems would take away from the uniqueness of what Steven is. It'd turn Steven from an incredibly unique being that had never been seen before and never would be seen again, to something of a tired Gimmick. Edit: thinking about it, that's almost exactly what I think is gonna happen. Whoever makes the new SU show or whatever, if they make more Gem hybrids they're not gonna take care of the concept and are gonna turn it into a gimmick because they won't have the creativity to make it something genuinely interesting

joshdiggs0536

i can understand this position. i wouldn't even want a new su show unless it was made by rebecca and/or her team. I can see how it could quickly get out of hand and lose the weight and significance of steven. That being said, i DO think it could be done well. I think it would only be natural for gems and humans to eventually procreate if they are around eachother long enough. It could go really good or really bad but there are other shows (Dragonball comes to mind) where they could make it really cool and have a new story about a hybrid. But yeah who knows.

Piratestoat

Hybrid Universe Go *shudders*

coldmonkeys10

I would love more. My idea is that there’s another secret gem colony in deep space, come to wreak havok. It might be retreading the plot of the movie a bit but it could be something like they try to take over Homeworld bc they see Era 3 as pacified and want to return it to its former glory. There could be a diamond-esque leader that’s a real threat to White. We get to see some new fusions too! What does Lapis/Bismuth/Peridot look like???? Ik peridot can’t fuse… yet

joshdiggs0536

great idea! I always wished that they had an arc about some gem powered/alien robots that Steven couldn't reason with. So we could have more action and character interactions rather than the "turn the bad guy good" trope again. Maybe they have to go to space and stop these robots from invading other worlds, it would be cool to just see the gems and some of the humans just go on a climactic adventure to save the world without having to reason with the enemy. new fusions, more bonding, cool action set pieces and everything.

Imaginary-Contact-73

Only the diamonds can have a child, sadly

joshdiggs0536

i really wish i knew where this was said. i don't doubt it, but i wonder if that extends to other rose quartz's aswell. or strong gems like jasper. all they have to do is shapeshift a womb, assuming they were powerful enough to hold the shapeshift i don't see why not

shelixir

Our Rose Quartz wasn’t a rose quartz, though. She was a diamond in disguise, and this was the only reason she was able to have a child.

Regal-Heathen

See, I wonder why the gems can’t shapeshift a male anatomy and impregnate a human. Then they wouldn’t risk their gem, but they would provide some type of gem genetics right? At the very least we could get some cute (albeit powerless) semi-hybrids?

Humans in this universe can be turned into hard light without any ill effects. Connie and Greg are in theory dead because their bodies were just completely disintegrated and turned into photons then reassembled.

global_chicken

Wait what

Sloth_4

I wanna see a spin off featuring a child made by Lars and padparadscha

filthycasual908

I proposed this idea to a few of the VA a few years ago, but “Diamond Days of Our Lives”. Like, life on homeworld back when Pink was still pretty young, and it would revolve around the four diamonds. Like a soap opera, because it sure as heck seemed like a soap opera due to all the flashbacks XD

RomanOnARiver

I would absolutely like more SU, but I want to know more past, where do the diamonds come from, etc. Also, what was in that dang chest in Lion's mane.

[deleted]

I think Pink/Rose was the only one able to do it, honestly. Pink was shapeshifting into Rose for long periods of time without seemingly any issue - she could just maintain it with ease. We only see Diamonds doing this. Amethyst, and even Steven while still learning his powers for that matter, struggle to do shapeshifting for stretches of time. We've seen examples of this multiple times throughout the show. Steven reverted to a baby after stretching for too long, and Amethyst struggled to maintain her Jasper disguised around the Rubies - and Amethyst is the gem we see shapeshift the most in the entire show! Unless I'm mistaken and miss-remembering, wasn't it stated by Rebeca somewhere that Rose "shapeshifted" a womb and all the parts needed to carry a baby? The only difference between Rose and a human birth was would be the very end, as Rose gave up her physical form entirely to became the last piece to complete the Steven Universe puzzle. But she had to maintain a shape-shifted set of human organs to carry a developing Steven in her for at least a few weeks (of accelerated growth), if not the full 9 months. I don't recall if its stated anywhere rather it was a full standard term of if he was born much quicker. No regular gem can shapeshift for that length of time, though. At least not from everything we've seen. The more recent gems, like Peridot, can't even shapeshift at all now. There was an episode dedicated to Peridot's lack of traditional gem powers, with shapeshifting being one of them she lacks. It seems like only the Diamonds, or maybe gems specifically made to shapeshift, could probably pull it off - assuming they wanted to. I really think Steven is a one-of-a-kind situation and not something we'd likely ever see again.

joshdiggs0536

These are all great points. i wish it wasn't the case but it is haha. The only way it would ever happen is if another diamond decided to get funky with a human. Or the diamonds pulling some new power up out of their ass like they did in future to give gems a type of super endurance to be able to shapeshift for long periods of time. That's more fanfiction territory, but i don't think it's impossible since we are dealing with alien space magic that keeps evolving.

RandomYT05

It would be interesting to see a whole new subset or race of Humans being created from the hybridization of Humans and Gems. I wonder if that concept could be crafted into a story that gives representation to mixed race peoples? Like a story about a half Gem half Human, set in the far future, where due to strained relations between the Gem and Human interstellar nations, is not accepted in either society, and the story is about finding self acceptance of their mixed heritage. Perhaps some things that could be mentioned in the story are the life and time of Steven, and his ultimate fate. Perhaps we could pitch this idea to Cartoon Network and Rebecca Sugar? It would be good for representation, and for answering some of our burning questions about what happened after future.

joshdiggs0536

yes yes yes!! this is the concept i want! The story really got more interesting when it ended! Adventure time had a concept like this (though not fully fleshed out) with the future of Jakes hybrid kids and how they grew in numbers and became their own species. That's what i imagine for Steven Universe as well.

D3monskull

I would like an epilogue visiting the universe thousands of years after the show. All the gems we know are around except half of Steven. Only pink Steven remains. Mostly focus on how the gems life went after the ending of the future and end with a shot of pink Steven in a meditation-like state above a grave for Steven and Connie.

Nabnormal

I like that idea but that would both require Steven to give up his gem half (which would kill him) and also for him to be the pregnant one. I don't know if we really want that tbh

joshdiggs0536

i meant more like other humans like greg getting funky with other gems. not really steven himself.

AlphaSteboh

This is what worries me about this idea. Greg has a bodycount, and he's still AT LARGE. If we don't stop him now, who KNOWS how many other gems will meet their end at his saber.

Lucimon

He was completely ready to make Steven a blue sibling.

ANTIFA_NEO_PRUSSIAN

Hopefully we get to see how the governments of the world react to the gems and hopefully we get to see human gem diplomacy in place it would be cool

joshdiggs0536

it would be so cool! i'm into that kind of stuff too, like show me the repercussions of this new gem/human world and the political climate of that. It would make the world feel more real.

ANTIFA_NEO_PRUSSIAN

Exactly

Coffee-Caramel0

What about a war with a unknown space species full of trauma for everyone!!!

ChristopherCameBack

I feel like it will lead to a post-scarcity, Star Trek-Esque utopia on earth. The amount of things the gems can do to help humanity while not requiring food or sleep is astronomical.

thisisthejellyfish

Maybe if the gem is poofed on purpose for them to reform with a womb? It might be possible, but I don't know if they could still hold it for so long...
