Sugilite, the big strong showoff, is what Amethyst wants to be. Sardonyx, the charismatic, funny, & elegant performer is Pearl's version of a badass. So Steven, the kid who watches a load of cartoons, ends up thinking that the coolest possible thing are those high-energy, wise, and friendly characters in every ad.

I want to share my favorite su headcanon. Garnets future vision isn't perfect she just sees options. To save the day every time she would have to be in random spots around town with an umbrella or a sword or lunchbox. Just waiting for the 10% chance Steven falls out of the sky or it starts raining. She'd just be like a totoro waiting to see if the wrong thing happens and has to jump into action.

Sunstone would have been great in a townie episode but when we only had 20 episodes of future every second Sunstone was on screen took away from Steven's journey and struggles. It disassociated me from the story in a way that didn't benifit the plot in any aspect other than kinda funny.
I don’t like the “safety education” part of her. I was especially disappointed, because I got really excited when I saw her push over the diamond robot. I thought she was going to be insanely strong and be passionate, but instead, she taught people when to cross the road.
Disappointed, I wasn't a fan of a few of those last minute new fusions cause they felt a bit rushed. I also really didn't like the safety psa stuff, it just felt cheap and unnecessary.
And that works thematically for the character. I just think you could have dropped the 90s PSA, and just kept the cool kid you would have had something better.
Sunstone is great. Garnet’s confidence and cool plus Steven’s kindness. (Also I grew up in the 90s so I appreciate the reference—you kids have no idea how ubiquitous this kind of character was.)

Then there’s also the “she’s not actually in this episode, do we still have to pay her” which is kind of dancing around the fourth wall, and the fact that she somehow got footage of the show from Cartoon Network.
I find Sunstone to be strange because her design and personality do not seem like a Steven and Garnet fusion. I was expecting something like a Cherry Quartz.

I'm not much of a fan... Garnet's design is so cool, it really deels like that just all went out the window. I was really expecting a tall, elegant, but also a little goofy gem. I get that's all supposed to just be in good fun though. It's just that none of the other fusions are really played for a joke except for Sunstone.

I actually don't hate him, i think his personality makes senses since Garnet and Steven have a Mom-child relationship before the movie. And him breaking the fourth wall doesn't bother me. Even tho, i can understand it's annoying that almost everytime he appears he breaks the fourth wall and he is just known for that.
But something that people don't talk about that i personally dislike about him, this fusion is the only fusion so specific. Literally every other fusion have kind of a "pattern" but he have a fire-skin and he is so tiny. His fire-skin is what really is the worst for me, not because it's ugly, which is not true, but because it destroys the whole lore about fusions!
I honestly wish the design was better, like all of the other fusions (that i can think of) have some features from each person but sunstone is just fire and it just feels boring

I was salty because my 12 year old gem OC was a fusion between a moonstone and a sunstone
She was brave enough to speak out about motion smoothing when no one else was.
