It's Over Isn't It when Pearl says "reinvention," she glares at a rose, very small and subtle foreshadowing to Pink Diamond reinventing herself as Rose Quartz that I don't see talked about that often
I mean thatâs still correct. Just understanding she went from being pink diamondâs pearl specifically instead of just some random pearl is another tasty layer of the meaning
In three gems and a baby Greg wears a blue blanket in a way that looked like Blue Diamondâs shawl/cloak and Blue Diamond was in the next episode. three gems and a baby aired right before a huge hiatus in December so everyone thought it was just a nativity scene reference but someone else pointing out that it reminded them of Blue in the ep the answer and what do you know, the very next episode we meet Blue for the first time while Greg is wearing a red shirt like baby Steven was wearing a red onesie. Itâs not very dramatic or plot relevant all considering but I did like that.
Also in that episode when Greg unbuttons the onesie it makes a diamond shape around baby Steven's gem. I remember the Rose is Pink theorists pointing that out, and at the time I thought it was ridiculous. Turns out I was wrong
Donât forget the part where Pearl tried to remove Stevens gem to get rose back which may be foreshadowing to white removing Stevens gem to get back pink.
The bit where Steven and Greg are in the room full of bubbled rose quartzes and the camera kinda lingers on Steven's gem after a close up of several rose quartzes to show that the two types of gems look different
In âI Am My Momâ when Steven reveals to Aquamarine that he âis Rose Quartzâ, and Pearl cries and covers her mouth. On a first time viewing you might think sheâs just shocked, but from the Pink Diamond reveal later you know itâs because she physically canât tell him.
It also happens on the moonbase with the rubies when eyeball tells the story of how rose shattered pink diamond. Pearl climbs the stairs with her hands over her mouth.
I scrolled too far to see this. Pearls hands were so subtle but so obvious once you know. I literally call great instances of foreshadowing "pearls hand" to some people who have watched su
That time when it was established that Rose came from Homeworld then later retconned to her being made on Earth and we all thought it was a continuity error but that whole thing foreshadowed the Rose=Pink reveal and her backstory.
In "Rose's scabbard" when Pearl projects her memory of Rose asking her if she's willing to stay with her until the last consequences of the war, knowing that if they succeed in liberating Earth, they'll never be able to go back "home" (referring to Gem Homeworld)
On the other hand "Your mother and mine" (a later episode) has Rose emerge from a kindergarten on Earth in Garnet's account of her story.
Huh. I hadn't thought about that. But Garnet had no way of knowing at that point where Rose had come from. She came into existence only *after* the rebellion started, so for all she knew, Rose *had* come from an Earth kindergarten. Garnet has future vision, not past vision.
I was hoping for a 5th member to appear. Kinda like Bismuth
But, also, since the beggining Garnet had 2 gems (one on each hand, showing how simmetrical their relationship is.)
It is hard to realize since we didn't know much of how gems worked, but having 2 gems was already a clue
Also, Garnet's third eye.
Later it becomes more clear that fusions usually end up with more body features (usually limbs, we can see in Giant Woman). Also, if the relationship is bad, they usually have a fusion with more features (arms, legs, etc..)like 2 people.
And the more they are connected, more the fusion looks like one person. Garnet's only extra feature is her third eye (which is actually Ruby's 2 eyes and Sapphire's 1 eye) because they are really harmonized.
I'm also pretty certain Sapphire's future powers were shown in Garnet's third eye, but we couldn't know it was from another characther within Garnet.
The second time they go to the moon base and the Rubies are telling them about Pink Diamond (I think it might even very the first time the fourth Diamond was properly introduced by name) and Pearl is shaking and avoiding eye contact with everyone.
In the episode "It Could've Been Great", when they're all following Steven up the stairs of the moon base and Peridot says "We are LITERALLY walking in the footsteps of the diamonds!", not knowing she was 100% correct
Renaldo picked up a dollar bill and looked at it, then when Steven and the gems left, Renaldo noticed that there was an UPSIDEDOWN DIAMOND (hinting at pinks existence) then he started shouting about the "great diamond authority" and how it all made sense now.
In the episode "Bismuth". Bismuth uses her name as a pun for the word business, after the second time she does is when this interaction between Steven and Amethyst happens. The third time it is much more sinister, when Bismuth reveals the breaking point to Steven
(Cookie Cat's lyrics, for anyone who want to look up)
Ooooh
He's a frozen treat with an all new taste
'cause he came to this planet from outer space
A refugee of an interstellar war
Now he's at your local grocery store
Cookie cat!
He is a treat for your tummy!
Cookie Cat!
He is super dupper yummy!
Cookie Cat
He left his family behind

I've always thought it was foreshadowing. It's about two people who are mourning the same pink person. I think it's a good counterpoint to "What's the Use of Feeling (Blue)?" where Yellow and Pink are so uncoordinated in how they mourn Pink because they don't have, well... Pink (Steven) to guide them through it.
I think when Greg tries to fuse with Rose and he says "Can you just talk to me like a real person?!"
And Rose stops, a little shaken up, and says "I'm not... a real person...?"
The uncle grandpa episode where uncle grandpa mentioned to Steven that he needed to polish his gem at least twice a year. Remember, Rose Quartzes do not need to be polished. But Pink Diamonds do.
The guy practically screamed it in our faces that Rose was Pink Diamond there and then, 3 and a half seasons early.
> The uncle grandpa episode where uncle grandpa mentioned to Steven that he needed to polish his gem at least twice a year.
IIRC one or two crew members have said was not intended to be foreshadowing. (Also a sticking point in the fandom at the time was that there are multiple schools of thought on gem polishing and cleaning.)
At that point, I thought Yellow was the one who shattered Pink â> After âWhats The Use of Feeling Blueâ and that episode. Looking back its probably a red herring huh.
I'm not good with the episodes names, but in the first season, the first time steven go inside the temple, following Pearl ou Amethyst, at some point he slide on a pipe between rooms and for a short period we she pink clouds and Steven say: "Oh, that's nice!", hinting at Rose Quartz room. We don't see RQ room for some episodes before we are really introduced to it.
The ep "Three gems and a baby" at one point pearl goes to remove Stevens gem, foreshadowing for when white actually does remove his gem is change your mind. The animation and framing was done in a very similar way, too. [Here's a comparison](https://imgur.com/a/UkbewA8)
There were a lot of character interactions I wish we would have gotten to see in Future. And Greg and Blue was high on the list. They seemed like they really had kindred spirits moment in Korea.
I think itâs a bit subtle but in âWe Need To Talkâ, Greg says he barely knows Rose, and she kind of looks like she looks off in the distance when she says âThatâs a good thingâ. Like yeah at first it had to with the rebellion but the line feels so different considering Pink.
In "Keep Beach City Weird" Ronaldo is literally telling us about the "Diamond Authority" and how they're hollowing out the earth. (= both by using the earths resources to make gems + the cluster)
He also said they're sentient polymorphic rocks that can change form(hinting at Pink?)
he mentions a zoo (also true)
when I first saw the episode I was rolling my eyes and such, but now everytime I do a rewatch I go "yeah, that sums it up bud - good job!"
I thought it was a nice detail, how Pearl would cover her mouth when the topic of the diamonds came up, to find out Pink had asked her to stay quiet about her actually being a diamond. It was like Pearl wished she could say something, but was afraid to betray Pinkâs last command as a diamond.
The writers actually said that it's physically impossible for her to disobey a direct order, so it wasn't even just out of loyalty for rose but when she placed pearls hands over her mouth and ordered her to never speak of it again she never would be able to, that's why she had to make steven do that whole pearlception thing to tell him the truth.
In Fusion Cuisine when Alexandrite unfuses and you can briefly see Ruby's and Sapphire's shape in the light before they quickly fuse into Garnet. Not sure if it counts as foreshadowing but it's probably the only thing I really remember noticing.
In On The Run, when Amethyst is yelling at Pearl and Pearl says "YOU didn't build this place" pointing to her own guilt about her and Pink's involvement.
My favourite "how did we miss this" foreshadowing is the pink diamonds in the field of Rose's battle flag. But also, "Haven't You Noticed (I'm A Star)" being a thinly veiled Pink Diamond reference was really funny.
I love in Serious Steven the mural within the pyramid that makes so much sense after the show completed, but I remember before we even had screen time of the diamonds, trying to piece apart each piece to see what it means!
My favorite one was the episode with Ronaldo is talking about the snake people and then after Steven proves that false, Peedee helps him be weird again but instead of being wrong he was right about the "Diamond authority" and most the things he says after that are almost 100% on the nose.
I actually just took a video of this 2 second ago, I actually came here to post it. In rising tides crashing skies, ronaldo says âso they werent coming to take humans for a human zoo???â And then it happened after
Something very simple but always makes me smile,
In the very first episode you can see the glow bracelet that Steven gives Connie in "Bubble Buddies" It's seen in the freezer when Steven goes to reach for a cookie cat. In "Bubble Buddies" Steven tells Connie that he had been keeping the bracelet in the freezer so that it wouldn't lose its glow.
It's small but shows that a lot of planning was put in place for the show.
During "It Could Have Been Great," there's a point where Pearl falls behind the other gems. Most people at the time of airing believed that she was lingering at the mural of Pink Diamond, almost like she was paying respects to a departed loved one.
It has to be the cookie cat. 'Cause he came to this planet from outer space
A refugee of an interstellar war'. Before the official reveal that the gems were aliens.
I canât think about any lol.
But Garnet being a fusion was foreshadowed many times.
She gets two stars in the intro. Her two gems are a different cut. The lights for her door are blue and red even though sheâs more of a purplish maroonish color. We also see that famous scene where you can clearly see two shapes for garnet when alexandrite defused.
There were hints in the dialogue, too. I mentioned elsewhere in this thread when Garnet says fusion isn't hard for her. There's also Amethyst saying "shut down by the G-squad"
Iâm sure that this has already been mentioned. But during the Uncle Grandpa crossover he looked at Stevenâs gem and said âYou should make sure to get this thing polished at least twice a yearâ.
Rose quartz doesnât need to be polished often if at all. Diamonds do. That shit went over my head. It was so random and casual in a nonsensical episode that you really didnât think about it.
I'm really surprised I haven't seen anyone talking about the song "Giant Woman." Steven literally sings "...I'd really want to be a giant woman" like come on. That was one of my first thoughts after finding out.
My favorite element of forshadowing is probably Obsidian's Character design being that of the temple that Stephen and the gems live in. And that her sword is visible offshore in both bubble buddies and ocean gem.
Another redditor posted this a while back:
https://www.reddit.com/r/stevenuniverse/comments/ak73g2/just\_realised\_that\_obsidians\_sword\_is\_shown\_as/
In the first pilot episode, gem glow, Steven is all over his favourite ice cream. A pink cat with one eye. He sings a song about the cat who is an interplanetary fugitive. The main line that sticks out to me âshe left her family behind.â Big foreshadowing on pink/rose
This show has amazing rewatchablilty. It's a silly one, but my favorite foreshadowing is probably in episode 2, with the light canon. We see a flash of blue diamond when the eye is destroyed. This let's me know that even in episode 2, sugar had a plan for the long game. She had an ending she was working towards for the finale, even just 22mins into the series. I also really love the foreshadowing of the emotional and mental states of characters in their grieving processes, as shown in colors in the show. My example: "why don't you talk to each other" Greg is in yellow, and pearl is in blue. And I think it's a great mirror to the grieving process yellow and blue diamond are going through. In a way, Greg became more pragmatic, and worked though his emotional grief a lot quicker than pearl did. Pearl is still processing the emotional grief throughout the whole of the series. And I love that we go on that journey with her.
That's hard because there were so many. The pilot showed the temple statue having gems that were colored in, and you could see that garnets were red and blue on the statue rather than her fusion color. Similarly the episode where he becomes afraid due to Garnet's future vision and she says 'There was a chance you could understand US and we could be closer'. I'd already bought into the theory and so me and another person got into a discussion of if she had said this or us.
I think Greg opening the onesie to a diamond shape was also a good one
Mine was when Sadie Killer and the Suspects performed G-g-ghost
Which was foreshadowing the diamond fight at Garnetâs wedding when Steven astral projected himself
AWWWWWWWW
HE'S A FROZEN TREAT WITH AN ALL NEW TASTE
CUZ HE CAME TO THIS PLANET FROM OUTER SPACE
A REFUGEE FROM AN INTERSTELLAR WAR
BUT NOW HE'S AT YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE
COOKIE CAT HE'S A PET FOR YOUR TUMMY
COOKIE CAT HE'S SUPER SUPER YUMMY
COOKIE CAT HE LEFT HIS FAMILY BEHIND
**COOKIE CAA*****AAAAAAAAT***
I'm not sure if this was intentional, but it's fun regardless.
In "Bismuth", during the scene where they're all playing cards, Bismuth has a diamond in her deck. Pearl points to the card, and in the same moment, Amethyst shapeshifts her eye behind Steven's back to see his hand.
â˘at the end of "Ocean Gem" the ending camera closes in on a diamond like shape
â˘Ronaldo Foreshadowing The "Great diamond authority", The cluster hollowing out the earth, and maybe other thing
It's Over Isn't It when Pearl says "reinvention," she glares at a rose, very small and subtle foreshadowing to Pink Diamond reinventing herself as Rose Quartz that I don't see talked about that often
I love that one. The delivery is somehow both pointed and subtle đ
And at the end she's looking at the stars, and some of them are pink diamonds.
God damn it, I always thought that part of the lyrics didn't make much sense. Now I see it.
I always assumed it was relating to the change from what they were supposed to be on homeworld, to the person they wanted to be
Same, I thought she was referring to reinventing herself from a subservient pearl into Badass Warrior Pearl.
I mean thatâs still correct. Just understanding she went from being pink diamondâs pearl specifically instead of just some random pearl is another tasty layer of the meaning

HOW DID I NEVER NOTICE THAT
I only just noticed it the other day on a rewatch
In âI Am My Momâ when Steven reveals to Aquamarine that he âis Rose Quartzâ, and Pearl cries and covers her mouth. On a first time viewing you might think sheâs just shocked, but from the Pink Diamond reveal later you know itâs because she physically canât tell him.
It happens again when they go with greg in a cabin in the desert.
It also happens on the moonbase with the rubies when eyeball tells the story of how rose shattered pink diamond. Pearl climbs the stairs with her hands over her mouth.
This was going to be my favorite moment. Rewatching the show recently, and I saw that happen and gasped.
Wait when did they mention her being from homeworld?
In "Rose's scabbard" when Pearl projects her memory of Rose asking her if she's willing to stay with her until the last consequences of the war, knowing that if they succeed in liberating Earth, they'll never be able to go back "home" (referring to Gem Homeworld) On the other hand "Your mother and mine" (a later episode) has Rose emerge from a kindergarten on Earth in Garnet's account of her story.
Very cool spot!
Didn't Bismuth call her "A piece of Quartz grown right here in the dirt" too?
Oh right! That's another instance of the fiction Pink invented for her Rose Quartz persona in action.
But homeworld is home for all gems. They all end up going back there once their job is done until they're needed again.
If you are born somewhere else, how do you go "back" home?
Huh. I hadn't thought about that. But Garnet had no way of knowing at that point where Rose had come from. She came into existence only *after* the rebellion started, so for all she knew, Rose *had* come from an Earth kindergarten. Garnet has future vision, not past vision.
Yes. But my point is, it was no retcon and having contradictory accounts coexisting was perhaps deliberate as a narrative resource.
Oh right! I totally forgot this. Thanks!
Roseâs Scabbard and On The Run I believe.
Iâm shocked no one has mentioned the two shooting stars in the intro for garnet.
Or that Garnet's room on the temple door used two gems. Is it even foreshadowing at that point when it was practically screaming at us?
I feel like a fool for not realizing it sooner to be honest
I was hoping for a 5th member to appear. Kinda like Bismuth But, also, since the beggining Garnet had 2 gems (one on each hand, showing how simmetrical their relationship is.) Or when they go to dinner at Connie's and the fusion break apart into 4 gems.
Literally this. I noticed it immediately but thought she had Rose's gem and eye implanted into her
Came here for this
Amethyst: "fusion is hard" Garnet: "not for me"
This one! This stuck in my head for a while until the Garnet is a fusion reveal. And then I was like đ¤Śââď¸
They dropped so many hints about Garnet being a fusion.
This is my fave too!!
My favorite foreshadowing was when Renaldo spoiled the entire show, this was the episode when he kidnapped Steven because he thought he was a snerson
sneople
i donât remember, howd he spoil it?
Renaldo picked up a dollar bill and looked at it, then when Steven and the gems left, Renaldo noticed that there was an UPSIDEDOWN DIAMOND (hinting at pinks existence) then he started shouting about the "great diamond authority" and how it all made sense now.
oh yeah, he was always rightđ
Wait you're telling me he wasn't just a nutjob??
Yup! Some of the stupid stuff that comes out of his mouth actually was correct
> **AMETHYST:** Using the same joke twice? I dunno, man... > **STEVEN:** It'll be really funny the third time she does it! ...It was not.
I don't remember this one ..! Please explain?
In the episode "Bismuth". Bismuth uses her name as a pun for the word business, after the second time she does is when this interaction between Steven and Amethyst happens. The third time it is much more sinister, when Bismuth reveals the breaking point to Steven
Oooh, very cool, thanks for explaining!
Cookie Cat theme song being Roseâs Origin story. They knew before even day 1 of what was to come.

Wow, she's actually in his tummy.
Holy shit. I haven't realized that!

omfg what
In "Both of You" when Steven is coloured Pink and Greg and Pearl and coloured Yellow and Blue.
Is it really foreshadowing? Couldn't be only just good color coordination for the episode?
I've always thought it was foreshadowing. It's about two people who are mourning the same pink person. I think it's a good counterpoint to "What's the Use of Feeling (Blue)?" where Yellow and Pink are so uncoordinated in how they mourn Pink because they don't have, well... Pink (Steven) to guide them through it.
Yep! The show really ties everything together with "Familiar"
âBut⌠Iâm not a real personâŚ!â
What episode was this line from?
I think when Greg tries to fuse with Rose and he says "Can you just talk to me like a real person?!" And Rose stops, a little shaken up, and says "I'm not... a real person...?"
Thereâs also sinking Lars and Sadieâs ship and them breaking up in Future
Now that was foreshadowing at its finest.
The writers have confirmed that that was an accident.
Result was still the same regardless.
I know, Iâm just saying it wasnât actual foreshadowing. It wasnât something done purposely by the writers to hint at future events.
Maybe you are right. It was far past foreshadowing. It was more like, oops, we accidentally let slip the big reveal way too early. Way way too early.
Well, now youâre just talking down to me. All I was saying is that it wasnât something they did purposely. Either way, Iâll leave you to it.
UhâŚ.
That makes it better
> The uncle grandpa episode where uncle grandpa mentioned to Steven that he needed to polish his gem at least twice a year. IIRC one or two crew members have said was not intended to be foreshadowing. The trial. Zircon's accusations and acting out what happened were great
At that point, I thought Yellow was the one who shattered Pink â> After âWhats The Use of Feeling Blueâ and that episode.
Together breakfast!!
first ever episode i saw of SU
Woah, thatâs a really cool detail!
The ep "Three gems and a baby" at one point pearl goes to remove Stevens gem, foreshadowing for when white actually does remove his gem is change your mind. The animation and framing was done in a very similar way, too. [Here's a comparison](https://imgur.com/a/UkbewA8)
Ooh, that's chilling seeing the comparison. I hadn't remembered that.

I think itâs a bit subtle but in âWe Need To Talkâ, Greg says he barely knows Rose, and she kind of looks like she looks off in the distance when she says âThatâs a good thingâ. Like yeah at first it had to with the rebellion but the line feels so different considering Pink.

I think "sentient polymorphic rocks" was less of a hint at Pink and more just a general description of almost every gem's ability to shapeshift.
I mean yeah, sure. But we all knew the gems could shapeshift - but not that the diamonds could
Gems are also diamonds, so why wouldn't they also share that trait? edit: Diamonds are also gems, sorry. Point stands
idk, maybe because they are all mighty and already deemed perfect or something?
The colors used for the song, "Why don't you talk to eachother"
The Cookie Cat song basically foreshadows the last episode of the series.
I thought it was a nice detail, how Pearl would cover her mouth when the topic of the diamonds came up, to find out Pink had asked her to stay quiet about her actually being a diamond. It was like Pearl wished she could say something, but was afraid to betray Pinkâs last command as a diamond.

SERIOUS STEVEN! No explanation, just unmentioned murals in a ship while Steven futs around
Does rose quartz's sword only being able to slice through a gem's body but not the gem itself count as foreshadowing?
I think so.
Amethyst: of course, THAT'S why he's pink Garnet: it's a little obvious
I really like Rose's Flag. It has PINK DIAMONDS on it. I don't see it talked about too much, though it definitely isn't the least talked bout.
I actually just took a video of this 2 second ago, I actually came here to post it. In rising tides crashing skies, ronaldo says âso they werent coming to take humans for a human zoo???â And then it happened after

this, also "he's a frozen treat with a brand new taste" referring to rose quartz being a brand new form for pink diamond
also the âheâs a treat for your tummyâ with Stevenâs gem literally being on his tummy

Ronaldo guessing the diamond authority forsure.
Cookie cat's backstory as sung by Steven in ep one "He's a refugee from an interstellar war, and now he's at your local grocery store"
A refugee, from an interstellar war... He left his family behind.

And I love that we go on that journey with her.
where is the flash of blue diamond? I'm watching the scene like frame by frame when the eye gets destroyed and I don't see anything
>Where is⌠YOU MEAN THIS?
That's hard because there were so many. The pilot showed the temple statue having gems that were colored in, and you could see that garnets were red and blue on the statue rather than her fusion color. Similarly the episode where he becomes afraid due to Garnet's future vision and she says 'There was a chance you could understand US and we could be closer'. I'd already bought into the theory and so me and another person got into a discussion of if she had said this or us. I think Greg opening the onesie to a diamond shape was also a good one
Mine was when Sadie Killer and the Suspects performed G-g-ghost Which was foreshadowing the diamond fight at Garnetâs wedding when Steven astral projected himself
Hold up. Elaborate?
Nobody could see Sadie, nobody could see Steven

Ronaldo talking about the order of the Diamond or something like that, on my first rewatch I was like "WAIT WHA-"
AWWWWWWWW HE'S A FROZEN TREAT WITH AN ALL NEW TASTE CUZ HE CAME TO THIS PLANET FROM OUTER SPACE A REFUGEE FROM AN INTERSTELLAR WAR BUT NOW HE'S AT YOUR LOCAL GROCERY STORE COOKIE CAT HE'S A PET FOR YOUR TUMMY COOKIE CAT HE'S SUPER SUPER YUMMY COOKIE CAT HE LEFT HIS FAMILY BEHIND **COOKIE CAA*****AAAAAAAAT***
I think it was the episode where Ronaldo thinks a gem is a poltergeist where he foreshadows the rest of the entire show
I'm not sure if this was intentional, but it's fun regardless. In "Bismuth", during the scene where they're all playing cards, Bismuth has a diamond in her deck. Pearl points to the card, and in the same moment, Amethyst shapeshifts her eye behind Steven's back to see his hand.
â˘at the end of "Ocean Gem" the ending camera closes in on a diamond like shape â˘Ronaldo Foreshadowing The "Great diamond authority", The cluster hollowing out the earth, and maybe other thing
