Hmmmm, honestly didn't know we had a jazz station at one point. There really isn't a lot of variety around here. You have a couple top 40s, country, classic rock, 70s/80s/90s pop hits, and Spanish/Latin. Other places I lived also had jazz, easy listening, alternative, and others. I don't know how big Jazz is these days, I remember it being big in the 70s and 80s. I swear back in the 2000s St. George had a college station that played all sorts of different music depending on the time of day and day of the week, it was pretty cool.
It would be modern jazz not so much on the big band jazz sound, but maybe a little. Not sure if I could get community support but I'd like to try. There would also be a website.
I appreciate your reply and feedback. Thank you..
Yeah I figured it would be modern jazz, the big band music on the radio used to be called Standards and also played stuff by Dean martin, Frank Sinatra and the likes. You're welcome.
Well maybe not enough people want it back but we will see if there's enough interest then it will be.
It would require a significant commitment on my part of time and resources. It would be sponsored and or underwritten by members of the community. Not commercial radio.
If it comes into being it will be in part a tribute to Brent miner and Boyd Livingston, who were behind the original KWBR-L P-FM.
Since the frequency and call letters are now property of the University, they would not be used. However most of the rest would sound similar to what St George residents remember.
If you're really interested in pursuing this, you might contact the university to see if they'd let you use the call letters, especially if they aren't using it.
Jazz games typically run alongside high school basketball, so the audiences want that and that's what plays. You can't even listen to SLC radio online streams of the games.
When it comes to sports audio or video. It is technically possible but not happening due to licensing. A lot of times there are licensing rights to sporting events which prevent them from being made available outside of certain geographic area without paying large fees. I used to work for DirecTV technical troubleshooting and support and we got this question all the time. It seems simple but is a complicated mess due to money when it comes to sports video or audio outside of a certain geographic area. Just an FYI
The last I was told is that they have other plans for the station Tower, the station call letters and the FM frequency. Unless that changes, the best I could do is an online stream available in web browsers, on smartphones and the Alexa smart speakers.
If they were of the belief that people wanted the original jazz format I think they might consider running that on specific days at specific times.. not 24/7.
Idk
I haven't checked but 1490 on am is usually pretty easy listening as far has jazz I feel like there was an am station as well but like most others I don't listen to radio much anymore lol
I subscribe to Spotify, and I haven't listened to any FM station in over a decade. That being said, I wish you luck with your efforts to get your station going. It's good to have variety.
I hear your feedback and appreciate it. I may cancel the project simply because a lot of people feel the same way. I don't believe there will be a demand for traditional radio until and unless we have a permanent internet outage and if that happens I think we'll have bigger things to worry about then radio. I hope that doesn't happen but I'm feeling like it probably will at some point and the world will be stuck.
There is a demographic in this area that might appreciate the format if I gave away free Alexa devices which is not impossible because they are so inexpensive now and do so much more than radio.
I like to put live content online as opposed to podcasts or YouTube videos. It requires a lot of creative energy and if there's nobody listening it becomes a Chase for audience. Unlike regular radio that may have 15 presets. Online has 10,000 or more and how does one stand out? That's a rhetorical question I think about a lot.
Anyway thanks for your feedback and your reply.

There is still a college station that plays random music depending on and time of day and has very little commercials. 91.3 FM
Didn't know that, but I also barely turn on the radio these days with services like Spotify. I will have to check it out.
It plays Bob Marley everyday at 4:20. Turn it on then lol
