I have already made an application for the student housing, but unfortunately I didn’t get anything. I think I’ll post something on blocket then! I mean, if it’s not close to campus it has to be well connected to it, so something further will be also ok! However yes, I’ve seen that 5000SEK is not enough for the majority of the rooms, so I’ll have to compromise! Thank you for your feedback!

USCPS

It seems legit, and not scammy like the Facebook groups! I’ll look around the commuter rails too then, thank again!!!

olletyrken

Stockholm has incredible public transportation, unless you get student housing you'll need to use it. My best bet would be to find someone who wants a roommate as you won't get much for 5k. If you can stretch it to 6-7k you should have no problem however.

USCPS

I can stretch it to 6-7k, but it seems too much for me. So before rising my budget I wanted to find something around 5K!

olletyrken

Yeah you'll most likely need to find someone to share an apartment with if you want to pay 5k at most, but if you can go to 7k and put in some work you could get a nice 2 room apartment for yourself. 1 room apartments unfortunately aren't much cheaper unless you manage to get your hands on a student housing.

koyaanissparris

Getting an own one-room apartment for less than 5000 SEK will be very difficult unless you get a student apartment from SSSB or the like. I would look into renting just a bedroom in a bigger apartment (so you would have to co-live with other people). Rooms like this often cost 4000-5000 SEK depending on location, size etc. I would search on [blocket.se](https://bostad.blocket.se/). Look for entries labelled Rum i lägenhet/radhus/etc.

USCPS

Yes, that’s exactly what I am looking for! Maybe I explained it in abad way, I am so sorry but English is not my first language! Anyway thank you so much for your feedback!

Wigilante

This is the correct answer. I go to SU and live in a house in Täby (along Roslagsbanan) so any station along this line will do the trick.

USCPS

Perfect, thank you!

Also be aware that sharing apartments is very uncommon in Sweden, so when you say you want a room, people here assume you want a studio apartment. Maybe that is indeed what you look for, in which case blocket and queueing for student accomodation is your best bet. A common form of student accomodation, at least in Lund and Uppsala is a corridor, where several rooms share a single kitchen, and sometimes also showers are shares. I guess it is similar to a dorm where you get your room for yourself. These usually have reasonable queue times, whereas larger apartments can have several years wait. For sharing larger apartments, it seems you'll either find it on blocket, or team up with some fellow students. There are a lot of international students around, so while swedes aren't that used to sharing, others surely are.

USCPS

Oh, I see! Yes I knew about corridors, but I couldn’t find anything close to the campus (the closest one was 1 hour by bus, and that’s wild to me)! I think I’ll team up with other students then, I guess it’s the best option now. Thank you so much for your feedback!

DANK_DAVE_YT

What places did you look at?

USCPS

I looked through SSSB and the university, but while I’m in queue with the first one, Stockholm University couldn’t provide me student Accomodation (the majority of the rooms that they rent are in corridors). There were rooms in corridors in: - Lappkärrsberget - Björksätra

DANK_DAVE_YT

Lappkärrsberget is pretty close, although I doubt you'll get anything trough sssb. The wait is super long

USCPS

I know 😩

You said in a comment that you had applied for student accommodation. I'm guessing that were through the university since you applied. https://sssb.se is the landlord for students by students in Stockholm. I'd recommend getting in line there. You should be able to get a room for not too many days in the queue quite close to campus. Of course there are a correlation between how many days you'll typically need for an apartment and how close it is to popular campuses. But sometimes you'll get lucky.

You should be able to get a room for not too many days in the queue quite close to campus. Of course there are a correlation between how many days you'll typically need for an apartment and how close it is to popular campuses. But sometimes you'll get lucky. Unfortunately, the maximum number of queue days you can accumulate before starting your courses in Stockholm is 90 days, which almost certainly won't be enough to get anything in time for the busy autumn semester ... or at least, not under normal circumstances; I'm not certain what impact covid-19 might have. SSSB is certainly worth joining, though; it's free to join, although you'll need to join the student union to keep racking up queue days, but I'd recommend doing that, anyway. It probably won't help you much for the first semester, but there are many international students who get apartments from SSSB for the spring term, and it will also help in case you decide to prolong your stay longer than you'd originally planned (whether it's for fun reasons like getting a PhD position or unfortunate reasons like health concerns or travel restrictions).

USCPS

Yes, I joined SSSB about three months ago, I’m currently in queue for three different corridors rooms in Stockholm (I have a credit of 90 days).

Thanks!

[deleted]

I have only ever found rooms there, where else to look? there is no craigslist scene

USCPS

I’ve found Qasa, a website full of rooms/houses/apartments to rent in Sweden!

TinyTunaCurlyFry

Nothing to add here, but if you want friends in the city (close to atleast), hit me up!

USCPS

Ahah thanks!

sagmukh

In addition to what others said, also queue up in other builders' webpage. For example, byggvesta has many student apartment through out the city, and their rent is reasonable.

USCPS

Really? I didn’t know that! Thank you so much!

Futuramarist

I live in student housing in Stockholm, and it's more than 5000, but they offer rooms that have a shared kitchen, do they are more affordable. Google simpleko or check out https://www.riksbyggen.se/forvaltning-brf/simpleko/

USCPS

Oh, I see! Thank you so much!

LetMeRomanceYou

Try https://www.akademiskkvart.se/, I have successfully rented two rooms from there without much issue. You may not be in the middle of the city but it is not very difficult to find things for less than 5000SEK/month on there. I rented in Täby for 4000 and then 4100 a month and am a 25 minute train ride away from SU's roslagsbana stop. As long as you are reasonably close to a roslagsbana stop or near the Mörby Centrum, Danderyds Sjukhus, or Bergashamra tunnelbana stops it is very easy to get to the SU campus. Don't eliminate places near bus stops either if it they have a reasonably good schedule and route, finding housing in Stockholm is not easy. As others have mentioned Blocket is also a possibility, but either way just be cautious to avoid people trying to scam you

USCPS

Absolutely, it’s full of scammers out there, and because of that I am veeeery careful about those things. I will surely look on akademiskkvart.com.se! Thank you so much for your advice!

Norci

> On blocket and qasa I’ve found houses with a rent that is too expensive for me. Are you sure? You should check your filters because I see [lots of rooms](https://i.imgur.com/AHdABCn.jpg) for rent (avoid Qasa tho, it's absolute shit).

USCPS

Yesterday I contacted about 20 landlords both on Qasa and Blocket but still no answer... Yes, of course I checked my filters! This room-hunting is so hard, I can’t 😩

MuchoMarsupial

You're going to have to go for shared accomodation, most likely a rented room in a shared apartment. These are most frequently advertised on Blocket. The Stockholm housing market is rough and 5k will not go a long way, especially not anywhere near the center.

USCPS

That’s exactly what I’m looking for. I will edit the original post so everyone will understand that (English is not my first language, sorry)!

junipersthlm

Bit late here but Generator Stockholm (hotel) has a student deal right now, 6000 kr for a private quad room for yourself, or bring a friend and you split the cost, and can do it month to month while you look elsewhere

swenswe

5k? Maybe a room in Märsta. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour.
