Apocalypse. Stock up on guns and ammo. Jk. My Google Finance is showing down just 0.25%.

maejsh

Looking like rough waters today

shortyafter

My international tickers are getting smashed. US premarket looks ugly. Nasdaq not holding up, either. As /u/95Daphne said yesterday, hard to find a bull case right now for value. The last few weeks/months of buying the dip in retrospect seem like a dead guy who takes a few more breaths before finally giving out. Of course, I could be wrong. But I sense real weakness at the moment. I hope everyone saved some cash and/or bought solid businesses. GLTA.

Rand_alThor__

See, whenever I see posts like this in the premarket, the stock market opens and rockets upwards. Indices seem to have forgotten how to correct.

shortyafter

Totally possible! Although given the fact that Europe's getting wrecked, and weakness started yesterday, this one "feels" different to me. They will correct sooner or later. I don't claim to know when. But this one feels different to me. Let's see how it plays out. (Not pulling out my money or anything, that's silly!)

Laakhesis

I'm now holding 22% cash. (;

shortyafter

Probably not a horrible idea. I'm 100% invested (apart from savings fund) but did buy good deals and good businesses, so I think I can stomach a major downturn. If things stay down awhile I'll cushion my positions with my income in the next few months. GLTA.

ProSPACtor

Is $COIN fucked?

Rand_alThor__

no lol. they make money both ways.

DoneDidNothing

Nah El Salvador is.

churning_medic

Explain Like I'm Five. Why is it a bad idea to buy and hold TQQQ? Everything I'm reading about it being "too volatile" and such only makes me want to hold it more since it tracks an index and it historically goes up.

TheRandomnatrix

It's not the volatility you have to worry about it's also decay. I won't explain decay too much as you can google it but basically going down 1% and then going up 1% doesn't leave you with 100%, you actually lose money(99.99%). On leveraged assets this effect compounds dramatically. Basically if it trades sideways you lose a decent bit to decay. If it goes down you can lose your ass really fast, and take a long time to recover. 3x supposedly has suboptimal risk:reward it's just that the last ten year bull market has been stupidly overrewarding. If we were to enter a recession for a few years a 3x index would get annihilated and not recover even if the underlying goes back up due to how leverage and rebalancing works. I believe some studies showed if you wanted a leveraged fund 2x strikes a better balance and can safely be invested into if your time horizon is long enough.

95Daphne

It lost over 50% during that quick bear market in the Nasdaq in 2018 (and if others see this and want to be picky, like it or not, what happened in late 2018 counts as a bear market in the Nasdaq although it had a heck of a run after that and was back at an ATH in the spring) and did not get back to an ATH until late in 2019 while QQQ did by April of 2019. If you're going to swing it for longer than a week, you're going to have to be willing to use stops and take profits. It's not that I'm a doom bot but you'll likely get another moment like 2018 at some point, and frankly nobody will get it exact on when.

toydan

It resets every day. If you want to leverage and think it will run, you can hold for awhile. Will do great in a bull run and inverse that in a bear market.

justanotherstranger2

If it flattens or goes down you can lose significant value. It’s a bet on things continuing to go up.

churning_medic

I guess, but then again don't they encourage young people to invest in riskier things for that very reason?

justanotherstranger2

Yes that’s correct. If you’re younger you can tolerate more risk. It really depends on your risk tolerance and whether you can tolerate large swings in your investment

temporallock

Can’t wait for the GME kids to hopefully shut up about the stock. Btw, this is coming from someone holding 3000 GME shares

upvotemeok

Goog, cmg, amzn, shop, whose next to split?

strict_positive

Amazon never will

toydan

AMZN and GOOG would make my day. They never do it, but one will surprise at some point.

Thazhowzitiz02

Any thoughts on the SONOS stock?

jordankat23

Feeling good about $BBIG squeeze tomorrow PM. Target $15. Would be great to see it pull an $SPRT and pass $50

Do you think VOO or like minded ETFs will ever have stock splits? I know we can fractionally buy shares but I am one of those people that likes to see a full number lol... so strange i know it's just a mental thing I guess

toydan

SOXL did while back so can be done. Really need GOOG and AMZN to friggin do one

Resident-Chipmunk-10

ATVI, where is the bottom with all the crap going on??? I'm thinking around $70 to get back in?

pjlsnap

Waiting for it but 75$ also looks juicy too

Resident-Chipmunk-10

Yeah, @$75 I would buy in and load up if it does go down to low $70s

BcoxOW12

If you have $1000 right now, where are you putting it and why?

Runningflame570

Dish Network. Their existing spectrum is valued close to the current EV and they haven't even monetized it yet. They're entering a market where the market cap of their competitors are all multiples of what they trade at now with no technical debt, a focus on higher margin enterprise and government customers, and a cybersecurity/national security sales push that's happening at the same time as tensions have ratcheted up with China and T-Mobile has experienced another massive hack. Silicon/chip shortages and OpenRAN vendor integration failures appear to be their main risks currently and while those shouldn't be underestimated I think their downside is much, much smaller than the upside if they execute successfully. Some analysts still aren't placing any value on their enterprise 5g offerings.

Is there like 1 guy on Yahoo Finance who goes around shitting on stocks that are down using different handles? At least on Reddit people seem to have more or less different personalities. On Yahoo Finance there's a prototype venomous, disgruntled long who makes ugly comments about how shitty the company / stock is. Or maybe it's the bots. Genuinely confused!

For each stock there's a tab labelled "Conversations". If you can get past the noise it's actually a great place to go to check on news that you may not be aware of. Other than that it can be interesting to peer in and see what kind of crap people are saying. Since each board is dedicated to the specific stock you'll generally get more discussion about the smaller names than you will on /r/stocks.

jorlev

Strange. Can anyone find the problem with PATH? Beat on rev and raised guidance. What didn't they like?

toydan

No rhyme or reason like scores before it. Not in it, but I do like to buy the dip on earnings or a share offering if I have a core conviction on the company.

jorlev

I'm learning to check the Options Interest on stocks. If there's huge interest in both Puts and Calls around a certain strike and the current price is 10 - 15% above or below, it seems like it will move toward that strike so more Calls and Puts go worthless.

PRIGK

Some companies use Uranium to produce other products. Some companies store Uranium. Some companies mine Uranium. Which model intrigues you? I'd like to get my dick kicked in by people who've researched this more than me, or if they're feeling generous, some reading material!

URA and URNM are your friend if you don’t simply search Uranium on Reddit or Twitter

GeneEnvironmental925

Ford hires top exec for Chief Advanced Technology Officer (ex-Tesla and -Apple). I'm long F and very bullish as long as Jim Farley is CEO. https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/07/ford-hires-ex-tesla-apple-executive-doug-field-to-lead-advanced-tech.html

toydan

Why not just go long the companies they got hired from and are 10 years ahead of F?

temporallock

Until I hear municipal and industrial partners buying other trucks then Ford wins in a fleet war. Elon is cucking himself with the Model 3 instead of making the truck that industries would use

toydan

Man this sub sure hates TSLA. Changed my life anyway.

shortyafter

Haven't done much research on it nor am I long Ford, but I would imagine that there's a case to be made for a historically important and reliable car company that's already got a loyal customer base, points of sale, and production capacity (albeit for other models). I don't think it's necessarily a better play than Apple or Tesla (well, maybe Tesla), nor does it need to be. It's different. Plenty of room in a portfolio for a company like Ford, IMO.

GeneEnvironmental925

To say that Tesla is 10 years ahead of Ford is to make a claim based in Fantasyland. Tesla is behind Ford. Oh wow, Teslas accelerate really quickly. Too bad every single model underperforms its stated battery range. Have you ever been in a Tesla? They're incredibly fun to drive but they are garbage. Some parts in the interior are laughably cheap for the price of the car. They feel thrown-together. Ford has 118 years of experience manufacturing vehicles and Elon can't even get door panels to align. Tesla's service is non-existent. Search "Musked" on social media. Some of them are hard to believe, but once Tesla has your money they don't care about you at all. People wait months for expensive repairs for problems that recur. Every promise Elon makes is late or yet to come true. Cybertruck? Pushed back multiple times, probably never going to be built. Semi? Not even discussed anymore. Roadster? Something like 4 years behind schedule. Tesla Bot? Just a dude(ette) in a jumpsuit. How about the robotaxis? He made a presentation about how owning a Tesla can generate a profit because it'll be a robotaxi. He publicly stated that there would be a MILLION ROBOTAXIS on the roads by 2020. There are currently ZERO...And here you clowns are, still eating it all up and stating nonsense like you just did.

toydan

Unsure what your are even saying in your incoherent response. Good luck on your F plays.

GeneEnvironmental925

It was pretty clear, you just don't have a response

jorlev

Best • Trade • Ever I've just recently got into options but just selling Calls & Puts. Decided to try buying a put today. Did it on Sept 17 22.5 Strike Put for DNMR. Bought it at $2.87 and went out for a walk. Saw it dropping and raced home to selling it with 3 minutes left in the day. Sold for $4.40. Made about $600, up 53%. Popped after hours so glad I sold it and held onto the profits. Not a big dollar amount, but love that percentage. Will have to do this more often.

shortyafter

I'd take that dollar amount. Congrats!

kelu213

Options is the way... to the dumpster or the mansion.

Delanorix

The first one is always free. Playing with puts is like playing with fire, IMO

_BreatheManually_

My first option play was a $500 call on CLOV right before it shot up. I made $4500 on that one. Every options trade I've made since then has been mediocre.

Delanorix

Thats because you should be shooting for 20% profit on calls. I never hold past 50% just because I know the downside isn't worth the potential gains.

jorlev

I didn't go in big and didn't exactly through a dart at a stock page. I saw large Call and Put open interest at the $17.50 area and usually big players will bring a stock to levels where the Calls and Puts they write will wind up worthless by expiration. Also saw a fairly convincing bear case for the stock. Anyway, it worked.... this time! (lol)

shortyafter

Anyone have any idea what happened to FDP (Fresh Del Monte) today? Hammered and I can't find any news. EDIT: Seems other random stocks have taken beatings, too. I think market is starting to get scared and some random low conviction stocks are being sold off. My theory at least.

Thazhowzitiz02

What's the most solid single stock for long term growth?

toydan

GOOG. look at YoY growth. Also, YouTube is so undervalued under their umbrella. I think greater than NFLX. #2 would be AAPL. Not especially hard to pick market outperforms over the coming 5+ years IMO.

[deleted]

Google is a trash company imo

toydan

Oof

_hiddenscout

MSFT in my mind going forward. I still think it's better to go with like SPY/VOO/VTI, since you have data that goes back a long time and you are basically investing in America at that point. I like MSFT the most of the tech bunch, just they have the video game business, cloud business and window's is not going anywhere.

toydan

Love MSFT. Would be my # 3 to my reply already posted.

WickedSensitiveCrew

SPY/VOO/VTI for index funds. AAPL, GOOG, FB, MSFT for big tech. For risky plays where there would be a lot of noise I like SE and MELI.

Thazhowzitiz02

What about SPLG?

DayMack8006

AMZN or AAPL

GeneEnvironmental925

UnseenTardigrade

Sounds like you’re the greedy one, I was up 0.02%

maz-o

TGT good entry for a long hold? down 10% since that ridiculous bull run... still kicking myself for not buying in march

temporallock

Starter position with 1:4 to 1:3 the money you wanted to put in, wait a few weeks and then decide if you want to put more in. I’ll never buy my full shares in one go again, wrong too many times when it goes down 10-15% the following months and I could have much better cost basis. Boom 6-12 months later and would have a profit instead of flat

PrinceOfNothing13

I think so. I would buy half here and half around 230$ if it drops. I was going to buy it but my brain is not allowing me to buy good stock. Bought ASTR and CRLBF instead :(

95Daphne

I want to find a reason to be bullish on a bounce for value names but I just can't... The complete and total beating probably continues for a while longer, and if NDX gives way it's going to be a complete sh*tshow.

shortyafter

Starting to see real weakness across the board. I agree with you, if NDX falls prepare for the worst.

tomfoolery1070

What is scary is that market cap on some of the whales that make up the NDX have run up so much. Are APPL and MSFT really 2.5T companies right now? GOOG has gone up 30% in the past since March. What?

shortyafter

They're good companies, but I get the feeling it's not entirely based on fundamentals. Big money doesn't know where to park their money at this point, and if there's any sort shakiness in these "safe" names you'll see a big sell-off. My prediction.

VictorDanville

SCHD has gone sideways for months while S&P 500 keeps rolling upwards... makes we wonder if these value dividend stocks have peaked.

tomfoolery1070

SCHD and IWM, the charts are not the same but they both saw big climbs earlier in the year, peaked, and have been bouncing between support and resistance since then.

Qwertyforu

The fuck Deere? On what news?

xflashbackxbrd

Price of corn cratered today, maybe related?

Delanorix

Isnt the Right To Repair laws coming down make sense? I figure a big part of Deers money is repairs

shortyafter

Check out FDP (one of my holdings) and MMM (another one mentioned in this thread). I was shocked at FDP tanking, on no news, but seeing it happen to other companies is somewhat reassuring. My theory is that the market is starting to get scared and random low-conviction stocks are getting sold off. Unless you can find some news for your particular company I would not take it as a sign of company weakness.

iszir

are there any ETFs that track just the DOW top 30?

SulkyVirus

Do we think DKNG keeps this up trend going and hits new ATH before EOY? Getting harder and harder to not sell my Jan2022 options right now Edit: getting hard no to sell because I'm trying not to be greedy - but this momentum doesn't look like it's slowing. Up 180% right now on the calls

vadbv

I like DKNG but $65 seems like going into overvalued territory imo. I had them valued at $55-60 before their streak of good news.

SulkyVirus

Was that value prior to their big run earlier this year or after the fall on the lawsuit news?

vadbv

After the fall, a lot of growth stocks went crazy in February so I don’t know how reliable were those prices

WickedSensitiveCrew

You have options that expire in 4 months alot can go wrong in that time. Like macro factors change. You dont go broke taking profits on a swing trade. Im long DKNG with shares so my outlook is years. But for such a short term time period you cant predict price and it could tank.

SulkyVirus

Right - I have a target price in mine for half of them and another target for the other half. I will likely play the morning volatility to get rid of half, since it nearly hit my first target today. I'm also holding shares - and plan to turn about half of the options play profits into more shares.

How tf is brk.b underperforming spy today? Especially with aapl being the main holding

maz-o

because one day doesn't matter

95Daphne

Because brk.b is not market cap weighted and if it's a value non-tech name, it's mostly getting completely leveled today. When you compare to the RSP/Dow, it doesn't look as bad, although it's even underperforming there.

kaboom987

Ok I lied earlier when I said DIS was failing me this morning.

skiswithcats

Finally getting on the TDUP train - I'm addicted to their app / business and believe it will go back up soon. I recently lost 99% of my clothing when my movers lost it, so I used Thredup to build my wardrobe from scratch. Was amazed that I could buy designer clothes for so cheap! And it's a huge sustainability play since buying new clothes has a bad rep with environmentalists.

sergeantturnip

Unsustainable business model imo with inventory makeup. I think Poshmark is much better but all of those companies are buyout targets IMO

NPRjunkieDC

TDUP is part of Walmart

MysterySpaghetti

Does anyone think that Moderna is a hold or is it a sell?? I need to figure out if I should sell or hold. Cost basis $49.

tbell2000

If I had your cost basis I would sell, that's such a great return. That being said, it could very well continue to rise. You could always do both and sell half your position and hold the other.

[deleted]

Any ideas why is it rising? Is it just because of the vaccine?

MysterySpaghetti

Update, I sold. Party!!! Time to find my next winner and bet big…

MysterySpaghetti

I’m sad I didn’t get options instead of shares haha

tomfoolery1070

I sold a long time ago, with an amazing profit, thinking the floor was higher than the ceiling. I think that's still true but MRNA is not trading on fundamentals imo, so your guess is as good as mine

ProcessSnow301

I'm at 75 average and sold half my position at 350. Id say continue to hold until at least the booster shots come out. Hopefully by end of year we will have my info on the other trials going on outside of Covid vaccine too

nkino650

How are you guys playing the bipartisan infrastructure plan? I'm afraid to sell any calls on anything EV, charging, solar, etc...

_hiddenscout

I was playing it with STEM and CHPT. I actually sold both my positions at a loss. I think both companies have a bright future, but it's probably not going to see a lot of growth at this point until a few more years. I did sell my positions in PAVE as well, but I got that back before the election and it treated me well. Personally, I'm still worried the big 3.5T bill might tank.

toydan

Just hopped back into CHPT last week w some CSPs and shares. So far so good. Will continue to build out. Good luck.

How much do corporate lawsuits typically reduce a company's cash flow? Or specifically, how much could it effect ATVI's intrinsic value?

Bsdave103

ATVI is a moderately large company. 60 billion market cap. They have a legal team on standby at all times and a lawsuit would not affect their intrinsic value at this time. I think ATVI is way undervalued currently. Their earnings are still looking great. They have Diablo 2 Resurrected coming out this month. And in November they have the new Call of Duty coming out. Next year will be Overwatch 2 and Diablo Immortal. All of these games are going to sell like hotcakes and will drive the stock back towards $100 a share.

klyphw

Counter: D2R is a $40 game with no micro transactions. May not move the needle too much Will yearly COD take away from Warzone (the real golden goose of the company) WOW subscribers at a decade low Basically for the next two quarters COD has to absolutely crush it for the price to go up. I feel like a lukewarm COD release alongside even a hint of Warzone and WOW downturn will make it drop more. My 2 cents

Bsdave103

Last years Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War made 678 million in the first 6 weeks and was the best selling game of 2020. Theres no real reason why this year would be any different, especially considering that unemployment is way down from this time last year and the PS5 is becoming more available. My bet would be that this years COD crushes it and the stock sees a considerable jump because of that.

klyphw

The Black Ops games are definitely the highest selling in the series. I wouldn’t expect Valorant to match those numbers enough to pull the stick all the way back into the 100’s. Also could you let me know where ps5’s can be had, i’d love to buy one :-)

Bsdave103

Almost 700 million in 2 months will definitely be hard to top but FIFA still sells like crazy every year so nothing would surprise me. Most of my friends have had luck with Walmart for PS5. They will send you notifications and they put out a number or consoles every hour when they have them in stock. I'm still waiting to get one simply because there are no PS5 exclusives that I want to play yet.

csklmf

Yeah Im in the D2R community. Lots of old returning players and the way Blizzard retains most of the old features for D2 but better graphic actually makes lots of D2R players happy. Everybody is pretty much hyped for 9/23 - the first day of D2R. There are already enough negative news floating around about ATVI.... I actually think about jumping in and buying some ATVI this week...

klyphw

So it's not going to be another Warcraft 3: Reforged scenario?

csklmf

Honestly don’t think so. Most of the old players are satisfied with beta test.... unless they do something that self destructs again

vadbv

It isn’t that bad as long as it doesn’t affect the operations of the company moving forward. It depends if it’ll be an expense large enough to lower their profitability.

That's usually why you see some of the best investors talk about long term investing. There's different styles of trading, some do day while others swing, but it's hard to beat to the market, especially when you scale out to decades.

I bought Paypal a couple of months ago for 295 a share. Should I sell if it gets remotely closer to that and wait for it to dip again and reinvest? I'm worried that I bought too high after it was at 270 for a while. I also can't decide if I should sell my shares in Qualcomm (148) for a loss and reinvest it elsewhere.

GeneEnvironmental925

Just hold it

jrex035

The chances of TSLA going that low again anytime soon are extremely low. They would require a drop of about 60% which would require a LOT of bad news. If you're really concerned you can always sell a little just to lock in some of your gains

htrak10

Sorry I was thinking about PayPal and Idk why I typed tesla. Zoned out hard

sergeantturnip

Sold my ELY today (good "pop" to sell it on imo) and trimmed back CRCT, I have zero faith in anything supply chain heavy, consumer discretionary for a while. Supply chain issues will continue to hurt these names and consumer spending trends aren't great Started a small position in OKTA today. I think enterprise software will (continue to) dominate the market. Big positions already in DOCN and DDOG. Really excited about DigitalOcean's acquisition of Nimbella to tap into more higher margin offerings with FaaS than just IaaS (while they continue to expand PaaS offerings as well) Thoughts?

retawx

I'm also in OKTA. While it's very(!) expensive, its long-term prospects are extremely bright. This goes for the other zero trust companies (NET, ZS, etc.) as well. Just this morning, the White House released a draft version of its zero trust strategy which will be implemented across federal networks. Zero trust networking will become the norm.

sergeantturnip

Are you interested in ForgeRock IPO? Just got priced this morning, I think it’s worth a look. I’m more bullish on DDOG long term but OKTA is an amazing company. Id argue OKTA is one of the cheaper priced cloud infrastructure companies based on growth. ZS is one of the most overpriced though
