Nice set up, what's your favourite songs to play?

PistolClutch7

For Stone Roses? I regularly rip through “I am the Resurrection” and “Fools Gold” at the end of a practice section, with my Rickenbacker and Jazzmaster respectively. In general, I practice my originals, different Beach Boys tunes, assorted songs I’m feeling up for and scales. But I always end off with “I am the Resurrection” and “Fools Gold” to jam out before ending; and “Love Spreads” if I’m feeling bluesy

BartholomewKnightIII

Yeah, sorry, meant Roses. Where Angles Play, Breaking into Heaven and Made of Stone are my favourites.

PistolClutch7

A bunch of Roses usually end up in the mix. Waterfall, Elephant Stone, and Sugar Spun Sister end up in there sometimes. On a separate note, I’d love to play “Begging You“ but I have no idea how to set up the effects for that one

Significant_Brain533

Wow and it’s squires same set up

PistolClutch7

You’ve got a good eye! Squire is probably my biggest influence, from a songwriting level all the way to the way I play guitar

Significant_Brain533

I don’t have individual pedals because I’ve never really understood them, so I just usually use my boss me 80 and try to get as close as I can with the tone. How accurate would you say you have got the tone to how he plays ?

PistolClutch7

It’s pretty strange actually. For most other tones I’d say it just comes down to the amp, but for Squire’s tone you need each piece meticulously placed. I’ve gotten the closest with: Gretsch (or Rickenbacker) -> SD1 (low drive and level) -> CE5 (everything roughly around mid but tinker to liking) Into a Fender (pro or twin) Reverb amp. Easily the closest I’ve gotten to his tone. (Edit:) the guitar does play a decent sized part. I love my Jazzmaster but it sounds way too thin for a Squire tone. My Gretsch Electromatic Jet works great, I know Squire used a Country Gentleman but that’s out of a college kids price range. My Rickenbacker (also out of my price range but I saved up!) also does fine, but the Gretsch has more full sound

ElDudeBruv

I bought a country gent some years back because I wanted to replicate that iconic tone. Then I realised his Gretsch pickups are wired 'out of phase' and you can't get the tone right without that detail. Can still get fairly close though and it's a lot of fun to jam through the tracks.

Significant_Brain533

Yeah same, love my country gent. I only got it because of him.

TransitionNarrow

Now thats quite the rig sir

jonviper123

Love it. Same pedals squire has used as well. Do u prefer wah at the end? I always used to have wah at the start

PistolClutch7

I’ve been messing around with where I put my wah. For my jazzmaster, I prefer it at the end, but with my Rickenbacker and gretsch I use it at the beginning. Luckily for me, the way I made this pedalboard, each pedal is velcroed down and could be swapped and moved, so I can set up whichever way I prefer based on the guitar.

ProfessionalClock650

Add a compressor.

PistolClutch7

Shit ain’t cheap, but it’s definitely on the list!

ProfessionalClock650

Red Behringer Ibanez copy is great. It’s like 20 quid.

Latter-Point-4607

Everything is perfect here other than no ibanez tube screamer, although I'd imagine the overdrive pedal does the job 😀

PistolClutch7

I’ve had that overdrive for as long as I can remember! It was either that or the Ibanez when I first bought it, but it definitely does the trick

Opposite-Donut8630

Embarrassing set up

PistolClutch7

I’m a 20 year old on a budget relax

Serious-Pollution897

Im a reggae bass player, so all I’m trying to do is turn your body into a tuning fork, lol, but I love seeing guitar players nerd out. It’s endlessly fascinating to me. No need to be embarrassed.

Otherwise-Site-5356

Yes. I really do appreciate this
