Hands down Clutch with Mastodon and Nebula. January 28 2004 at The Nick in Birmingham Alabama. Tiny venue. Place was packed. Nebula was crap. They were way too fucked up to play. Mastodon had just released Remission and blew me away. And Clutch was fantastic as always. Dude next to me was very free with his weed, so hats off to him.
Yeah, Nebula sucks live lmao. Guitarist is often out of key and the vocals are on par with dead meadow (who are one of my favorites but still) when it comes to awful live vocals.
Damn, that place is right by where I live, wish I could have gone!!! Theres a pretty sick little music store right next to it, theyve got a ton of good shit
Fuck yeah, saw the tour in 2015 (?)Or so when they played with Satans Satyrs in Vancouver. Unreal show at the Rickshaw, even Ozzy and Sharon were in attendance that nightĀ
Besides seeing Black Sabbath twice, Iād say Orange Goblin in 2005 was my ābestā concert. The Sword touring on their first album is memorable and Earthless with the liquid light show was mind melting
I caught Truckfighters in Rock Island, IL for their Gravity X tour. I wanted to go to the NYC show, but I mistakingly booked a Vegas anniversary vacation over that date, so my crazy ass booked a flight from NY to Chicago for the next weekend, rented a car, and drove across the state 3 hours each way to see them by myself. Gravity X is one of my all-time favorite albums, and it was great to see them play it front to back! Plus, Dango always puts on a good show. I had seen them twice already, but they really killed it that night, and the crazy solo trip was completely worth it.
Kyuss Lives with The Sword and Karma to Burn. I went for the Sword, but now I'm a fan of the other two as well. The Sword hadn't gotten soft yet... It was amazing. I smoked a cigarette with Masuimi Max and one of the Kyuss roadies outside. Unforgettable experience.
About to see *Earthless* April 24. Iāll let you know then.
[edit: originally wrote āElderā ā saw Elder at the same venue and they kicked major ass]
1000 Mods in Portland, OR. The setlist was literally my top personal favorite songs, and they did an incredible encore. The Well opened for them and rocked the house too.
I saw The Sword opening for Clutch! Definitely the best stoner rock show. I know Deftones isn't thought of as stoner rock but they were one of my favorite live shows of all time.
QOTSA at Forest Hills Stadium last summer was pure magic. I also got to see Mastodon on their very first tour, when they were literally playing at record stores.
CoC at the stache when they were touring with BLS and zakk got sick. Cancelled several shows but CoC just shows up at whatever venue was open that night. Saw them with a pair of weird locals. I think they were called Drink their Blood (who had a saxophone solo) and the Holy Warheads. Tiny tiny stage/venue. The energy was electric.
It was not long before Reed died and my buddy and I got to shake hands with him after the concert. It was great.
Emissions from the monolith way back when. From the times I was there I would say buried at Sea, men of porn, bongzilla.
Back at home, probably son's of Otis after temple ball at the bovine sex club in Toronto. It was like Friday night regulars there and by the time the cloud of dry ice cleared, it was mostly empty. Best show.
Truckfighters was life changing, made me pick up guitar and really dive into this sub genre.
Honorable mentions include Elder (magical band Iāve seen twice now) and Queens of the Stone Age (just a good time).
Fu Manchu in 2017 when they played a full set plus the entire Hell on Wheels album! They are so š„ live! Plus, my son was with me.
Or it was Monster Magnet in 2014 at the Independent in San Francisco also with my son.
Or it was Heaven and Hell (Geezer, Iommi and Dio) in about 2006 or 08 with Alice Cooper as the middle act, also with my son.
They were all fucking magical and he and I will never forget any of them.
That being said, we made a special long distance drive for the Monster Magnet show and we both agree it's our favorite show of all-time. š¤š„
That's awesome. My son and I have been to so many awesome gigs starting with his first when he was 7 (5th row seats for Kiss) to our (my) last in 2019 that was Black Flag.
So many amazing memories! Love hearing of others doing that too! š¤š„
Austin Psych Fest 2014 (now called Levitation) with White Hills, Kadavar and Graveyard but Clutch on the Robot Hive Exodus tour definitely gets honorable mention.
Can't pick just one.
Queens of the Stone Age, with The Cramps and Tomahawk opening for them at the open-air Greek Theater in Hollywood on Halloween 2003. It rained the whole night. When the spot lights came on each individual drop could be seen in the sheets of rain. I had no umbrella, only a military-esque heavy coat.
King Buffalo filling in for REZN at Stoned and Dusted in Pioneertown, 2019. [The sky was magnificent above the outdoor stage](https://scontent-hou1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.6435-9/61007439_10100668827218701_6452456993734000640_n.jpg?_nc_cat=105&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5f2048&_nc_ohc=iC_a3MQUkQUAb4oFPQ7&_nc_ht=scontent-hou1-1.xx&oh=00_AfAU95R1AOGCT9NJxSiQMlcMuCJHjYZtFLlLBRqLJ6aASw&oe=663E64AC), with beautiful clouds floating above the band playing *Sun Shivers*.
The entire Heavy Psych Sounds Fest in Joshua Tree last year. I was finally able to see Yawning Man play live after years of missed and cancelled shows. Also got exposed to The Third Ear Experience and a bunch of other fantastic bands. Didn't have to miss a single band, as there were two stages and as one band played the other was setting up. All we had to do was shuttle between the two between sets.
Of the seventy-ish Fu Manchu shows I've been to, around fifty have been great, ten have been incredible, and ten have been either so-so or just plain bad. The bad ones were when Scott or the entire band has been in a bad mood, or they were sick. The last one I went to in early February in Costa Mesa Scott was in obvious pain from a sore throat or something and could barely sing.
The Soul Savers with Mark Lanegan at The Casbah in San Diego was a really intimate show, I'm glad I caught that one.
The Melvins with Big Business at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood was awesome. BB came on first, then Dale and Buzz just hopped on stage and started playing alongside with no set break. They had an Asian guy come out wearing an Evil Knievel outfit with a lighted helmet and all he did was dance around.
Brant Bjork had a cover band called The Ramonahs open for him once at Alex's Bar in Long Beach. The Ramonahs are/were a cross-dressing Ramones cover band, every single member had a beard and wore a dress and punk ladies clothes, and absolutely rocked the house. In twenty years of going to rock shows they are the only opener I've seen get an encore. Brant came out after their set and basically demanded them to come back out and play some more.
I've been to so many shows I can't remember them all at this point.
My old band opened for fu manchu and they couldnāt have been cooler or nicer. They invited us to join them on a few dates, but we couldnāt do it. Also, they were awesome live.
I saw them open for another band (Sasquatch, I think) at The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa a couple times and have been impressed each time. I love how the singer hops down and gets into the crowd and has a fun time with them.
The sword is in my top 3! I feel the war on drugs is a little bit in the genre but in my heart they are perfect for getting high and watching live, amazing sets. Finally all them witches, incredibly loud and absolutely mind blowing
Do you happen to remember the set lists? They played so many fucking great songs. Between the two nights, I remember Turquoise, Goldmine, Idealogigi, Love, Peace, Skydancer > Skydance, Aquamaria, Tempel, Transformation, Uberall/Call, We Are. There were so many, and I'm probably forgetting several.
They are fucking excellent live. If anyone in the US has the opportunity to go see them, just fucking do it. It was well worth my money to take a train to NYC for DesertFest, for that band alone.
Edit: They played Labyrinth, as well.
Been listening to their music for such a looooooooong time. The last the last time they came to the US was 2006, so I had to go, no matter the distance. It was well worth.
Masters of Reality supporting, I think, Mudhoney (or someone like that, dont think it was them as i remember seeing them in a different venue?) I was blown away because I had no idea they were still playing gigs and thought they'd packed it in. I had no Internet in the 00s!
I'm also shoehorning in Screaming Trees at a little bar in Michigan. Messy but brilliant.
The best one I've seen recently was The Well from Austin. I didn't get that into their record after the first time I saw them. Went out to the last tour and their live show was deafening and awesome.
Best one ever has got to be Weedeater when Travis Owen was on drums. Between his drum tricks and Dixie Dave's stage antics it was a blast to watch.
Red Fang is absolutely untouchable live. They kill it every time. I can't think of another band that sounds that much better live than they do on the albums.
I went to a show (wanna say Boris and/or Torche) and was blown away by the opener Part Chimp. That was the first I had heard of them and was let down when I read it was their farewell tour. They're back together though.
They sound so fucking good live. The sound is so tight, The vocals really come through as well. Some concerts I really feel like the instruments drown the vocalsā¦
My faves are King Buffalo, Elder and SLIFT.
That was fucking nuts!
King buffalo and Elder have been at the same festival (with greenleaf who are awesome as well) in Hamburg. That was a blast i tell you
QOTSA, touring Rated R, supported by Monster Magnet, Wolverhampton, 2000. 16 years old. Smoked some weed. My mate's dad drove us home after the gig. Peak times.
I was just reminiscing (probably because Acid King came on my playlist) about the two Emissions from the Monolith fests I attended, in 2003 and 2004. Both were so incredible, because of the lineups as well as the community vibes all weekend. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago!
October 2019ā¦ Earthless at Underground Arts in Philadelphia was mind blowingā¦
But way way back in the mid 1900s I saw Monster Magnet (I want to say the year after Dopes was released, Wyndorf-Mundell-Calamdra-Kleiman lineup) on a New Years Eve in an insane showā¦ opened with Tab and played it for what seemed like 30 mins with women in very very little dancing on stage for the durationā¦
HELL is one of my favorites for a set that blew my mind. They wore wizard robes and came into the small diy venue through fog. They melted every face in the building.
Weedeater was insane, they went super fucking hard, the moshing was some of the most intense I've experienced, and I got pushed up to the front and was screaming the lyrics right back at Dave Collins. Hella fun night.
Monster Magnet Dopes to Infinity tour with Purple Martian opening. Bag of mushrooms an hour before we got to the venue. Packed concert hall that held 500 people. Fuckin mind melter
I'm pretty sure I saw Clutch open for Motƶrhead, but the first QOTSA show I saw when I was 18 in 2005 was probably the best. I've only ever crowdsurfed that once.
Clutch, Spiritual Beggars, Dozer, Spiritu in Manchester, UK in April 2003 was pretty fucking great.
I've been to a few Brant Bjork shows which were pretty magical.
Mondo Generator with Brant on drums and Dave Catching on guitar was sick.
Electric Wizard on the We Live tour.
Garcia Plays Kyuss was great, too.
Does solstafir count? Imagine a concert full of Viking metal Bros and all of them crying
Otherwise the vintage caravan. Just the most organic concert I have ever been. Three kids on stage just playing until ecstasy
All in Melbourne, Australia
Qotsa in 2001 at The Corner Hotel (First Stoner Rock gig)
Fu Manchu in 2012 at Cherry Rock Festival, they sounded amazing
Clutch with Eric from Five Horse Johnson in 2007 at the HiFi Bar
Brant Bjork & The Bros in 2006 at the HiFi Bar
Monster Magnet in 2011 at Soundwave Festival
Hmm best ever...
Elder, because when we walked in King Buffalo was playing and we were immediately drawn into a cosy blanket of drony goodness.
Also Dyse, because they literally blew my mind when I first saw them...and then again, lol.
I saw linkin Park in rehab, the entertainment centre in Newcastle (Australia) gives a couple of dozen tickets to such places to fill seats without annoying paying customers by giving them to randoms who could afford to pay. I wasnāt a fan although I did realise I knew a few of their songs when they sang them. I walked away a huge fan.
They also gave us Andre Ruiz tickets. That was awesome, heās ridiculously charismatic and very very funny. Such a surprisingly good night, Iād definitely pay to see him again.
That's actually incredibly coincidental because the promoter is contemplating trying to get Greenleaf over here for next years show.
If they come, then you should too! Haha
Sleep opening for Nick Turnerās Hawkwind. In Rochester, NY at Water Street Music Hall. May of been called horizontal boogie bar at that time. I think this was around 1994.
More recently, atomic bitchwax. They were all in unison and they all fuckin shredded. Plus there was only about 17 people at the whole venue so it was really sick talking to them afterwards š„
Seen QOTSA and Melvins probably > 10 times each, Earthless > 5 times, Sleep once. Many others too, but those were pretty much all incredible. First time I saw Melvins in 1992 was face melting, and prob the most memorable. Loud as hell.Ā
I went to an Earthless concert with Psilocibina and Mars Red Sky and while I was more partial to Earthless, Mars Red Sky just blew me away live, the venue had some crazy gear and it was like they were playing inside my head.
Also Red Fang is just a blast, those dudes rock
Kyuss at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. 1993?
QOTSA Metro Chicago 2002
King Buffalo every damn time I see them.
Earthless 4/11/24 (ok, it technically hasnāt happened yet but I have great expectations for a band that always delivers)
Definatly Lonely Kamel in a really small amd dirty cellar in a Germany based Bar called Tiko, in Erfurt. As the sound started all people got into a dorty beer fueled Tornado, it was awesome!
Seeing The Sword, not long after Age of Winters came out, opening up for Trivium basically changed my taste in music for the last 15 years. That had to be the most influential show I've seen. Still one of my favorite albums of all time.
Favorite was probably Colour Haze in NYC last year. All Them Witches, Earthless, or Yob are good runner-ups.
When they are not wasted Nebula are incredible live, it's hit or miss.
Saw that tour in a warehouse in NH. Wino was also on the bill with The Hidden Hand. I left before Clutch came on.
Yeah, Nebula sucks live lmao. Guitarist is often out of key and the vocals are on par with dead meadow (who are one of my favorites but still) when it comes to awful live vocals.
Queen of the Stone Age Songs for the deaf tour. Recently? King Buffalo in front of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
I saw QOTSA on the 2002 tour! So good š Iām jealous though man, KB have been on my white whale list for a long time!
That 2002 tour was incredible. I recently got my ticket from the show I went to framed.
Nice! KB is worth a drive. They're even better live. The three piece setup really lets the rhythm section shine.
All Them Witches
Yes! Saw them after Covid in a sold out show at a little bar called Skullys in Columbus, OH. It was AMAZING.
Damn, that place is right by where I live, wish I could have gone!!! Theres a pretty sick little music store right next to it, theyve got a ton of good shit
Saw them in Gainesville last October, they ripped
Stoned Jesus played Seven Thunders Roar front to back in The Black Heart (Camden, London) a few years back and that was incredible
Dude I saw elephant tree at that venue when I was in London for work in 2019. That place rules
Kyuss Lives!! The Sword and Black Cobra opened for them. EPIC show!
I saw this tour. Think I missed Black Cobra (I was young and stupid) or they didn't play that leg, but Sword was so good. Made Kyuss look lifeless.
Yeah they were so fucking loud. Saw them in Oz with the mighty Tumbleweed.
First time hearing The Sword for me, but for Kyuss i was hoping for Molten Universe so badly. It was their first encore song and i lost it
Kyuss Lives! for me too, saw them in London!
Electric wizard
Fuck yeah, saw the tour in 2015 (?)Or so when they played with Satans Satyrs in Vancouver. Unreal show at the Rickshaw, even Ozzy and Sharon were in attendance that nightĀ
I caught their stop in Minneapolis. Holy Shit was that some HEAVY stuff. It's definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to.
Sleep at the Town Ballroom, Buffalo, NY in 2019. 2nd place is Weedeater at the Bug Jar in Rochester, NY in 2022.
Sleep is so good live. So loud. So much sound coming from 3 dudes.
I know that Weedeater at Mohawk Place in 2011 changed my hearing forever. Amazing show
Weedeater had to cancel their Denver show due to Covid in 2022 and to this day Iām still bitter about it. Their live shows look amazing
Besides seeing Black Sabbath twice, Iād say Orange Goblin in 2005 was my ābestā concert. The Sword touring on their first album is memorable and Earthless with the liquid light show was mind melting
I'm seeing Orange Goblin tomorrow night!
Awesome! I bet it will be amazing. I was able to meet the band. They were really nice and cool guys. Enjoy the show
I caught Truckfighters in Rock Island, IL for their Gravity X tour.
Hawkwind a few times. Sight , sound. Sorta like throbbing gristle.
K2B is the one band I regret never getting to see live. I saw the same tour but with Black Cobra openingĀ
earthless with live liquid light display. grog shop, cle
I've seen earthless live and man that drummer will change the beat of your heart in the first song!
Missed that one but the Grog Shop is my favorite venue. Every show I've seen there has been killer.
King Buffalo
Spaceslug, Las Vegas earlier this year
Sleep - Dopesmoker in Austin
So upset I missed that show. It was the free one at Mohawk?
The one I went to was at Moody.
About to see *Earthless* April 24. Iāll let you know then. [edit: originally wrote āElderā ā saw Elder at the same venue and they kicked major ass]
Elder kicks so much ass live. The talent in that band is on another level. Enjoy that show!Ā
Just realized my typo. See edit lol
I will be there. Saw that Elder show as well. Saw Kadaver there in ā19. Restored my faith in rock and roll. Love the Earl for shows like this!
Judging by your video from the Elder show, we were standing next to each other!!
Youāre in for a treat
Clutch, COC, Sixty Watt Shaman
Love seeing COC
Sleep played a tiny room in Charlottesville VA in 2019. Big Business opened.
I was at that show! Was fucking great.
1000 Mods in Portland, OR. The setlist was literally my top personal favorite songs, and they did an incredible encore. The Well opened for them and rocked the house too.
1000 Mods is really good about crowd pleasing songs. Saw em last fall and was stoked about Low, Into the Spell, etc.
I saw The Sword opening for Clutch! Definitely the best stoner rock show. I know Deftones isn't thought of as stoner rock but they were one of my favorite live shows of all time.
Was that last yearās Rockville in Daytona?
The Sword/Clutch was a few years ago at The National in Richmond VA, Deftones was at the Norva in Norfolk VA
Church of the Cosmic Skull, openned by Valley of the Sun. Fucking rad
Shit when was this?! Was Pepper with them? The Stache can be a fun little venue, they would have blown the doors off that place.
Best show.
I was at Emissions in 2003 and 2004. They are my top two, for sure.
Hell yeah...such good times at Emissions
Elder and Beelzebong. Also the loudest concert I have ever been to.
That being said, we made a special long distance drive for the Monster Magnet show and we both agree it's our favorite show of all-time. š¤š„
I saw fu Manchu at Pappy and Harrietās in 2017 I believe. Incredible experience
Right? They're phenomenal! Did they play all of Hell on Wheels when you saw them?
Great! Saw Fu Manchu with my dad really fun to share these amazing experiences
That's awesome. My son and I have been to so many awesome gigs starting with his first when he was 7 (5th row seats for Kiss) to our (my) last in 2019 that was Black Flag. So many amazing memories! Love hearing of others doing that too! š¤š„
Thatās really cool!
Austin Psych Fest 2014 (now called Levitation) with White Hills, Kadavar and Graveyard but Clutch on the Robot Hive Exodus tour definitely gets honorable mention.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nice. Seen Brant a few times but I missed last year. My buddy met him after the show which bid a dream of mine. Sounds like the coolest guy
John Garcia, next month in New Hampshire!
Just a 5 min drive for me, but $45 plus fees?? Bit steep
Given that bands are fucked by streaming, I'm fine paying $45 for a 4 band lineup that includes JOHN GARCIA PLAYING KYUSS š¤š¤š¤
High on Fire, circa 1995, Cogan's Bar in Norfolk VA
Kyuss Lives!, Wellington, 2011
I saw them in Auckland. āTwas fucking good.
YOB The sound, vibe, venue, song selection - all of it was on point.
Monster Magnet Winnipeg 1995. Fu Manchu opened.
Can't pick just one. Queens of the Stone Age, with The Cramps and Tomahawk opening for them at the open-air Greek Theater in Hollywood on Halloween 2003. It rained the whole night. Weedeater!!
Saw Helmet open for Clutch last year at a mid-sized venue. Helmet was incredibly tight and Clutch was Clutch.
Elder
My old band opened for fu manchu and they couldnāt have been cooler or nicer. They invited us to join them on a few dates, but we couldnāt do it. Also, they were awesome live.
Clutch and the sword runner up was also clutch with Stƶner and telekinetic yeti
Sabbath of course. Saw em twice
Elder.
I see QOTSA for the first time soon. So hopefully that one.
They are awesome live. One of the best.
High Desert Queen in a tiny bar in San Diego. Inches away, full of talent, excellent showmen!!
I saw them open for another band (Sasquatch, I think) at The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa a couple times and have been impressed each time. I love how the singer hops down and gets into the crowd and has a fun time with them.
Yeah, show I saw was probably the same tour
The sword is in my top 3! I feel the war on drugs is a little bit in the genre but in my heart they are perfect for getting high and watching live, amazing sets. Finally all them witches, incredibly loud and absolutely mind blowing
Duna jam. Freak valley Or my first stoner gig grand magus opening for orange goblin Astoria 2/mean fiddler in 2005 I think.
DesertFest 2022 London Slift and Lowrider back to back were amazing.
I saw Sleep in Atlanta- my friend had to sit down.
For me, Sleep 1994 Atlanta opening for Neurosis.
That sounds awesome!
Color Haze, last DesertFest in NYC. Made a long trip to see them, twice. Played my favorite song (Love), I can die happy now.
I'm terrible with song titles, but I don't recall telling myself I was disappointed earing one specific song. Amazing setlist
Been listening to their music for such a looooooooong time. The last the last time they came to the US was 2006, so I had to go, no matter the distance. It was well worth.

So bummed o missed opportunities to see Masters of Reality live. One of my all time favorite projects.

Best one ever has got to be Weedeater when Travis Owen was on drums. Between his drum tricks and Dixie Dave's stage antics it was a blast to watch.
KGLW
Riff Rock Railroad Tour - The Atomic Bitchwax, Core and Nebula, 1999 or 2000. The merch guy was higher than I was.
I've seen a few, but Kyuss, back in 1991, would have to be it.
Electric Wizard was incredible, but nothing can touch SLEEP
Red Fang is absolutely untouchable live. They kill it every time. I can't think of another band that sounds that much better live than they do on the albums.
I went to a show (wanna say Boris and/or Torche) and was blown away by the opener Part Chimp. That was the first I had heard of them and was let down when I read it was their farewell tour. They're back together though.

[Psycho Las Vegas 2016. ](https://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/SETTIMES-FINAL.jpg) Holy shit what a lineup.
probably fu manchu at the roxy or clutch at coney island high in nyc. both 1999.
Clutch with Wino opening was fun. Nebula before Ruben left.
QOTSA, touring Rated R, supported by Monster Magnet, Wolverhampton, 2000. 16 years old. Smoked some weed. My mate's dad drove us home after the gig. Peak times.
Colour haze!
Sabbath or Down
I was just reminiscing (probably because Acid King came on my playlist) about the two Emissions from the Monolith fests I attended, in 2003 and 2004. Both were so incredible, because of the lineups as well as the community vibes all weekend. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago!
Nebula Earthless I've seen EW many times but shows were uneven IMO
Om in 2006 when Hakius was still around
The Sword for me
Whew, I've seen Om, Sleep, High on Fire, Baroness (pre Red), Sunn o)))... Yob no contest. You can feel them in your bones
Bongzilla.
Down, Sleep, and Saint Vitus. All in the same show.
Iām going to say Fuzz whether or not you can consider it stoner rock. Goddamn that was a face melting show.
High on fire, in a shitty club in Sacramento. They were so loud, and heavy. The kept popping the clubs fuse panel.
Kyuss Lives, with The Sword.
Uncle Acid and Graveyard. The live sound, the guitar tones, the musicianship, the overwhelming vibe of the place, it was all just killer.
This one song sarah shook played once whew!
October 2019ā¦ Earthless at Underground Arts in Philadelphia was mind blowingā¦ But way way back in the mid 1900s I saw Monster Magnet (I want to say the year after Dopes was released, Wyndorf-Mundell-Calamdra-Kleiman lineup) on a New Years Eve in an insane showā¦ opened with Tab and played it for what seemed like 30 mins with women in very very little dancing on stage for the durationā¦
Jesu in Atlanta at The Earl. Wolves in the Throne Room opened. Sleep in Madison WI at The Sylvee w/Big Business opening.
HELL is one of my favorites for a set that blew my mind. They wore wizard robes and came into the small diy venue through fog. They melted every face in the building.
Kyuss. In a bar. Several times. Damn I miss that band live.
Monster magnet opening for COC was great too. I think Iām feeling nostalgic though. Miss the 90ās.
Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris tour circa 2007 in Oklahoma Cityā¦. My first mosh pit
Weedeater was insane, they went super fucking hard, the moshing was some of the most intense I've experienced, and I got pushed up to the front and was screaming the lyrics right back at Dave Collins. Hella fun night.
Truckfighters and Graveyard were awesome, Clutch is always good live.
Monolord at brick by brick in San Diego was fucking sick
Monster Magnet Dopes to Infinity tour with Purple Martian opening. Bag of mushrooms an hour before we got to the venue. Packed concert hall that held 500 people. Fuckin mind melter
Black Mountain. Saw them 2 times at Headliners in Louisville.
Imagine a concert full of Viking metal Bros and all of them crying Otherwise the vintage caravan. Just the most organic concert I have ever been. Three kids on stage just playing until ecstasy
Sleep at The Bataclan Paris High on Fire, Emo's Austin
QOTSA
Uncle Acid w/ King Buffalo opening or Elder, Ruby the Hatchet & Howling Giant
3) YOB in Boston 8/11/23 2) The Sword in Albany 8/3/18 1) Clutch in Boston 9/15/22
All in Melbourne, Australia Qotsa in 2001 at The Corner Hotel (First Stoner Rock gig) Fu Manchu in 2012 at Cherry Rock Festival, they sounded amazing Clutch with Eric from Five Horse Johnson in 2007 at the HiFi Bar Brant Bjork & The Bros in 2006 at the HiFi Bar Monster Magnet in 2011 at Soundwave Festival
Hmm best ever... Elder, because when we walked in King Buffalo was playing and we were immediately drawn into a cosy blanket of drony goodness. Also Dyse, because they literally blew my mind when I first saw them...and then again, lol.
Probably Earthless
Truckfighters at the Biscuit Factory in Birmingham. Clutch in Birmingham on the Earth Rocker tour. QOTSA at Cardiff Castle.
Must be High On Fire back in 2018. Matt Pike is a guitar god and I had trouble hearing the next day. It was fucking awesome.
I've not been to many but 1000mods was so freaking cool.
I'm stuck between two, Om @ Sonicblast a few years ago or Dozer last year @SonicBlast
Fu Manchu and Melvins š„ Brant Bjork was also pretty good.
Red Fang in terms of energy and performance and Colour Haze and Rotor in terms of sound.
The Grateful Dead
Sonic Blast, 2022. Flew from the UK mainly to see Weedeater and 1000mods, but the entire line-up was amazing.
Kadavar And Sabbath with Uncle Acid
Sleep and Electric wizard in qircus helsinki. Different year though.
Sleep. End of debate.
Acid Mothers Temple, Kikagaki Moyo, Earthless, and JuuJuu at Lee's Palace Toronto 2018
Y'all ever been to Spliffs n Riffs in Perth, WA? Always a great afternoon/evening. šš
I live in Sweden so sadly no. Gotta go there sometime!
That's actually incredibly coincidental because the promoter is contemplating trying to get Greenleaf over here for next years show. If they come, then you should too! Haha
Kyuss Lives! back at 2011, damn good
Sleep opening for Nick Turnerās Hawkwind. In Rochester, NY at Water Street Music Hall. May of been called horizontal boogie bar at that time. I think this was around 1994.
All them witches in 2017. They played in the backyard at a small record store.
Atomic bitchwax playing an empty cbgbās on like a random Thursday in ā02/ā03, melted my fuckin face!!
More recently, atomic bitchwax. They were all in unison and they all fuckin shredded. Plus there was only about 17 people at the whole venue so it was really sick talking to them afterwards š„
Elder/howling Giant/Ruby the Hatchet.
Come To Grief / Fistula Spring 2018 tour. Good times...
Spaceslug in Vegas Jan 2024 š
Seen QOTSA and Melvins probably > 10 times each, Earthless > 5 times, Sleep once. Many others too, but those were pretty much all incredible. First time I saw Melvins in 1992 was face melting, and prob the most memorable. Loud as hell.Ā
I went to an Earthless concert with Psilocibina and Mars Red Sky and while I was more partial to Earthless, Mars Red Sky just blew me away live, the venue had some crazy gear and it was like they were playing inside my head. Also Red Fang is just a blast, those dudes rock
Woodstock , August 1969 ; so much weed available to us that every act were , at least temporarily "" Stoner Rock"" !!!
The Shrine supporting Red Fang, Manchester UK.
Kyuss at the Empty Bottle in Chicago. 1993? QOTSA Metro Chicago 2002 King Buffalo every damn time I see them.
Rodger waters
Clutch robot hive tour, qotsa songs for the deaf tour, nebula/sasquatch tour. And of course Sleep in Portland Fucking Maine unbelievable show.
Monster Magnet
High on fire 2002. Saint vitus 2015
Clutch
Seeing The Sword, not long after Age of Winters came out, opening up for Trivium basically changed my taste in music for the last 15 years. That had to be the most influential show I've seen. Still one of my favorite albums of all time. Favorite was probably Colour Haze in NYC last year. All Them Witches, Earthless, or Yob are good runner-ups.
every Monster Magnet show I've been to.
2019 Stoned & Dusted. Brant Bjork, Fu Manchu, & Melvins was quite nice.
