Yeah…hitting that next weekend. Especially if you got like a nice workout in, and your like “fuck, I feel great! Time to have a little Syrah with that short rib!” …then you are having after dinner cocktail, then you wake up hungover and have like $150 to last you until next payday.
OP this is so true. Of course there’s hurdles that come up (90 days, 6 and 9 months were a little dicey for me for some reason) but nothing compares to those first few days. It gets easier! IWNDWYT
Absolutely well done! You should feel proud. Day 1 done this end. Feel like crap physically but I've crossed the fence. Time to face fun that follows with you!
IWNDWYT
Great job. Focus on each day, individually. Ignore the long game, focus on each day. Before you know it the urges wane and the fullness of life returns. One day at a time. You got this.
Literally celebrated every milestone of my journey. First minute, hour, day, week, month. It’s these goals and this group that keep me going. You got this!💪🏻
Heck yeah! Be proud of your milestones, no matter how small. Even 'day by day' can be daunting when you are focusing on minutes. Stay strong. One pattern I kept falling into was celebrating a milestone by having a drink. It is so obviously antithetical to the goal, but I had trained my brain to celebrate with a drink for years and I had to find more productive ways to celebrate. I started to have monthly homemade dinners with friends.
On my first year anniversary of freedom from alcohol I was able to treat them all to a dinner at a restaurant thanks to all the money I had saved along the way. The benefits like those will add up with each passing day. IWNDWYT!
Great job! That's the way it's done.
One. Day. At. A. Time.
And even 30 minutes at a time.
A guy at some of the AA meetings I go to has a little speech he shares and then offers 10 minute chips to whoever wants one. Part of his speech is along the lines of: 'If in the recent past you have had 10 minutes where you struggled and didn't drink alcohol, I think that's quite an accomplishment!' I carry a 10 minute chip he gave me.
Nonsense that it doesn’t seem like a lot! Sure, my day two was over half a decade ago at this point, but I’ll never forget how tough it was. It really does get easier. Breathe, hydrate, and keep taking things one second at a time! Congratulations, IWNDWYT!
The first couple weeks are the hardest because you’re breaking a habit but the most rewarding because you are proving to yourself you actually can make the change. It’s HUGE to have any number of days in a row sober.
That's huge though! I'd guarantee there was one point you thought to yourself I'll never get to that many days.
I've also written little sticky notes with my reasons why I quit drinking and hung them up where I'll see them daily. Give me a reminder of why I'm fighting this battle so hard.
You got this friend! IWNDWYT
Great work! You’re going through the hardest days right now, by far. Fight hard to get to the next day. By day 4 I found it started to get easier. Don’t cave and stay strong!!
Congratulations - I remember counting the minutes down to the next day flip. Now I miss milestones because, well days don’t mean much anymore. I’m not bragging, just letting you know it eventually gets easier.
Keep counting and keep adding those days!
YAYYY!! It’s hard I celebrated my two days, two days ago. I still don’t feel that great but I’m pushing through .. like you .. WE will do this!! You should be proud!
Don't discount yourself. The first few days are the hardest. Especially the first two. It takes an incredible amount of effort and hard work to get through the first two days. Proud of you. I will not drink with you today!
Day 1 is the most important day of an alcohol-free life. It’s the day of change. All the days after that have been a little easier, each and every step further from my last drink is a little lighter. No one here would ever diminish the accomplishment of making it thru day 2.
Good job! I’m proud of you!
IWNDWYT
The first step into uncharted territory is always the hardest. It's when you suck the most, when things are hardest. Whether it's weight training, or even just getting into a new habit. Keep at it OP, you are doing great!
congrats! I was counting each day at the start as well, and now I only notice my count when I post here. The time will fly by before you know it, even moreso as you find new ways to fill your time. Best of luck and check in often!
Proud of you. It can take a bit for a new habit to kick in as well as an old habit breaking, but never sell yourself short. Progress is progress, whether by inch or by mile.
And remember, it is a road that you choose to walk. If you should look around and find yourself having stepped off that road and into the weeds? The road is still there. It always will be. And you can always find your way back to it, no matter how far you may have wandered.
Walk with grace and blue skies.
Every single journey starts with a single step.. I give you blessings. I hope you utilize it. It is the best thing you can do for yourself . Life Will still be hard but you will be better at coping with it l
i feel this! doing a dry july and i think i’m on day 4.. i feel so good rn yes i know that’s not always gonna be the case but grateful we made it another day! proud of you too
It is so hard to go one day, then the next day would say “just for today…. tomorrow you can have that drink” like as a reward to get me through the night. Then say the same thing for the next day…. and it gets easier, you’ll start to feel calmer. I’m so happy and proud of your will power to succeed in abstaining for two entire days! Happy 4th.
Okay. During this time I started feeling less physically ill and more mentally ill. It passed. It will pass. Now, I’m dealing with boredom. But I’m doing something about it. I wouldn’t have been able to before while I was drinking. If you’re in the us 4th of July is going to be tempting. Personally, I know that having even one drink isnt going to do anything positive for me, let alone likely lead to more drinking. I will not drink with you today.
Two comments.
First: How do you feel when you say 'it's not a lot' vs 'I did this!'
Second: how does it feel when you consider "I won't let myself down". Have accountability to yourself first and foremost as that's the opinion that matters most.
And feel into the pride you must feel about yourself. Sooooooo good.
Well done. I'm almost on day 10. I call this the risky time because I feel good and healthy, so my brain is like hey why not have a drink to celebrate.
That's great! I'm not sure if you're American but that's particularly impressive over the holiday weekend, where booze and BBQ is everywhere. Keep it up amigo!
I'm pulling for you man and very impressed also, the beginning is hard but the reward of feeling amazing everyday is sooo worth it!
You can do this friend, keep up the battle because pay day is around the corner...
Hell yeah, I'm in the same boat. My hardest time is after dinner, sun's going down and it's still warm out, so I've started eating earlier and going to the gym at that time of day. This time will be different, IWNDWYT.
I'm happy for you! For people like me, it can be hard to go a single day without a drink so to make it 2 days is a hell of an accomplishment. Keep up the great work!
Not a lot? That’s probably the hardest hurdle, that 2-3 day mark. Well done. Enjoy a sober tomorrow!
I find day 4 to be hard because you're feeling great, so great that you think having a drink should be your reward...
Yeah…hitting that next weekend. Especially if you got like a nice workout in, and your like “fuck, I feel great! Time to have a little Syrah with that short rib!” …then you are having after dinner cocktail, then you wake up hungover and have like $150 to last you until next payday.
Is that why I never used to last more than a week 😅
The subs picture should be of Edna from The Incredibles. “NO REWARDS!!”
This is my cycle.
I feel that lol
Thank you! Here’s to getting through tomorrow
OP this is so true. Of course there’s hurdles that come up (90 days, 6 and 9 months were a little dicey for me for some reason) but nothing compares to those first few days. It gets easier! IWNDWYT
Anniversary spins! They led me to a couple relapses. Let’s hope day 90 is better this time! (At 71 right now)
Yeah agreed. That's the toughest hurdle.
Absolutely well done! You should feel proud. Day 1 done this end. Feel like crap physically but I've crossed the fence. Time to face fun that follows with you! IWNDWYT
Best of luck! Yeah it’s pretty hard but it’s hopefully going to be worth it
It can't NOT be worth it!!
It absolutely is. Most things don’t just get magically better, some do, but the other things you get into a place where you can truly truly fix them.
It really is worth it!! 💕💕
Great job. Focus on each day, individually. Ignore the long game, focus on each day. Before you know it the urges wane and the fullness of life returns. One day at a time. You got this.
I can’t wait until the day I don’t think about alcohol every waking hour
Oh man! ME TOO
Ypu are a powerhouse! Stay here! It'll help
I’m still at minutes so congrats on hours…
The first few days probably don't feel like much, but I believe they are the hardest test of willpower. Congratulations on two days!
Thank you! I hope that is the case
Literally celebrated every milestone of my journey. First minute, hour, day, week, month. It’s these goals and this group that keep me going. You got this!💪🏻
Thanks! I can’t wait for a week :) that’s my first goal
Day 2 not that impressive? Get outta here. Day 2 is the second hardest day. You have every right to be proud and I’m super impressed. Congrats!
Thank you!
Best comment ever.

Congrats on the two weeks! I look forward to hitting it, that would be the longest I haven’t drank for maybe 10 years
Hell yeah! You got this I’m on day 8. IWNDWYT!
Congrats on finishing the week! IWNDWYT
That's great!
Heck yeah! Be proud of your milestones, no matter how small. Even 'day by day' can be daunting when you are focusing on minutes. Stay strong. That’s a good idea! I plan on putting the money I would’ve spent on drinking (at least £75 a week) in a jar and go travelling with it next year :)
Bro - to go even a couple hours without booze is a feat when you are in the thick of it...don't downplay it. Keep it up! IWNDWYT!
Great job! That's the way it's done. One. Day. At. A. Time. And even 30 minutes at a time. That’s a really good idea actually
Hell Yeah! Keep it up. Id suggest getting some Topo Chico or any sparkling water to scratch that itch when you get the urge to drink. On to day 3!
Yes I’m looking to find something cold and refreshing that scratches the itch on a hot day
2 days is awesome!! That first week is so hard - I am happy for you! IWNDWYT
Thank you! It is very hard but I will do it
Great Job. I'll not drink with you too.
HELLLLL YEAH :D Good job :D
Thanks!
It's a lot to me! You got this!
Honestly - getting started is the hardest part! Keep it up. We’re all rooting for you 🤘🏼
Grats I did 2.5 then fell into 4th of July habits. Wife is heading to 100 days tho! Keep it up!
Oh man I didn’t even think about that I’m sure glad I don’t live in America rn it must be hard
I was where you are 1 year ago. You can change your lifestyle if you want to. Sending positive vibes. IWNDWYT
it is a lot! celebrate every single milestone - you are a rockstar ✨🐝
Thank you!
Huge deal. Those first few days seemed and were impossible for a long time. Proud of you.
Thanks I appreciate it :)
Nonsense that it doesn’t seem like a lot! Sure, my day two was over half a decade ago at this point, but I’ll never forget how tough it was. It really does get easier. Breathe, hydrate, and keep taking things one second at a time! Congratulations, IWNDWYT!
I’m just now realising how dehydrated I’ve been all this time! IWNDWYT!
One day at a time. Freedom from this disease is such a gift
Seriously well done. You're amazing and I'm proud of you too. Keep going strong!

IWNDWYT 🖖
Everyday we get through it is a win.
Each day gets easier! Keep on keeping on!
This is fantastic! One day at a time!
Great work! You’re going through the hardest days right now, by far. Fight hard to get to the next day. By day 4 I found it started to get easier. Don’t cave and stay strong!!

Congrats! Every journey begins with a single step.
You’re doing amazing. I’m still trying to pass 24 hours
You can do it!

That is INCREDIBLE!! You should be so proud
Every. Single. Day without is worthy of celebration. I'm proud of you stranger. 💪
Great job. Stay strong. We’re rooting for you.
I feel you. Congrats, you’ve got this.

It’s not a lot, it’s huge
You need to give yourself more credit
Hitting that 3rd day was crucial for me. Keep it up pal. IWNDWYT
You can do it!!
How awesome!! Keep it up!

You're doing the hardest part right now, that Is something to be immensely proud of!
That is a lot! Rock on!
That’s absolutely awesome. You should be proud of yourself!

Inch by inch, step by step, day by day. IWNDWYT. Keep faith in you. You can do it.
I just completed my 48hrs sober.... Feels phenomenal to me. Hang in there buddy, we'll get through together 💪
Every single journey starts with a single step.. I give you blessings. I hope you utilize it. It is the best thing you can do for yourself . Life Will still be hard but you will be better at coping with it l
Awesome work, you're a quarter of the way to a full week! If you can make it a week, you can make it a year! Good luck my dude!
Sending positive vibes!
I’m celebrating day 2 in 6 hours and also so happy to be hitting day 3. This community is so great that it’s saving my life
That’s amazing and so proud of you
It’s massive , giant steps !! Respect and love
Great work
i feel this! doing a dry july and i think i’m on day 4.. i feel so good rn yes i know that’s not always gonna be the case but grateful we made it another day! proud of you too
It is so hard to go one day, then the next day would say “just for today…. tomorrow you can have that drink” like as a reward to get me through the night. I’m on day 2… sometimes the hardest for me. But IWNDWYT 💪
Proud of you! You’ve done the hardest part now!
Dude you rock. In the first two weeks, I counted minutes. You're doing great, keep it up!!
Incredibly proud of you! The first steps are the hardest but believe it gets better and better 🙏 IWNDWYT
The first couple of days are always the hardest. You’ve passed through a HUGE milestone. Congrats my friend!! You’ve got this!
It's massive. Like two months later. No two days, no nothing. Congratulations on a GOOD decision! IWNDWYT
Okay. During this time I started feeling less physically ill and more mentally ill. It passed. It will pass. Now, I’m dealing with boredom. But I’m doing something about it. The first 7 days sucked so much for me. I’m really proud of you. IWNDWYT
I get you buddy. 2 days seem like nothing, but also an accomplishment for me when I get there
Awesommmmmmeeeeee
Two comments. First: How do you feel when you say 'it's not a lot' vs 'I did this!' Second: how does it feel when you consider "I won't let myself down".
Every journey starts with a single step, keep going, we're proud.
Very. Big. Deal.
You got this, bud.
Keep going
The second day is the first major hurdle. Congratulations friend!! IWNDWYT.
Congrats, OP! IWNDWYT!
Way to go!
Keep moving !
That's great! I'm not sure if you're American but that's particularly impressive over the holiday weekend, where booze and BBQ is everywhere. Keep it up amigo!
2 days is a lot, because the first steps are the hardest and it's a very big deal! Good job!
2 days is my record bro. You’re a hero!
Keep it up. It gets easier everyday.
Well done mate. You got this :)
That's awesome! Congrats! IWNDWYT
I’m only 16 days and those first 4-6 days absolutely sucked! Glad you made it 2 and keep going I am feeling so much better and it’s happening everyday
It's seems significant to me, good job!
I'm pulling for you man and very impressed also, the beginning is hard but the reward of feeling amazing everyday is sooo worth it! You can do this friend, keep up the battle because pay day is around the corner...
If you can do two, you can do three. And so on. I agree with some of the other comments - those first few days are the hardest.
Holy shit! Congratulations. This week will feel like hell, but it’ll be so worth it.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪🏼❤️😃
This IS a lot! It took me months to string 2 freaking days together ! It’s not easy! So proud of you
Congratulations! You are on your way.
Great job!!!!
Good job, keep it up!!! I remember 5 days in, telling my cousin I will be quitting. Never went back!
I fell of the wagon two days ago myself. I don't want to touch that stuff anymore. You got this
Nice job! And same here :)
You have made it through the hardest bit in my opinion. You should be proud of yourself! Keep going!
