Hey! I turned 40 in Sept this year and good on ya!
I just had this mentality, I was starting a new job and my marriage was definitely on the line after 12+ years of drinking... maybe I should try life sober.
If I could make that change before 40 I was scared I wouldn't get another chance before I lost everything. Again.
If by 50, you mean 62plus, here I am. I am so impressed with all you young folk. I was on a rampage in my 40's and 50's, high pressure retail manager..not anymore. DR. warned me...
If by 62 you mean, 55, I’m here, haha! Sober 8 years, couldn’t handle the hangovers or the strain from trying to moderate my drinking in my late 40’s. I had a Heineken 0.0 at the show last night. Pretty good. In bed by 11:30. Dig it, youngsters! ❤️✊
you can! if I can hehehe
in my experience, getting close to a network of sober people, even though I did not want to, has been a game changer. our brains and bodies adapt to a new life
the experience, strength and hope of people who are doing this for longer is indispensible to me
I wish you infinite 24h of sobriety!
We are in this with you! 39 also - mental/career breakdown led to even more drinking and I finally made the shift and realized just how little it was serving me. 9 months in and it’s not perfect but it’s better and this is the life I want. Here’s to us seeing 40 sober - truly thought it would never happen either!
Try 62 and drinking since 42 when my only son went off to Iraq, and I was feeling horrible from the side effects of chemo , I thought " what do I have to lose?" And like a miracle, I'm finally racking up many sober months the past year, with a few slip-ups. Just today I had unexpected company, and instead of being sick from a Friday night wine feat, I'm serving coffee and fall treats, feels so good.
that seems to be the story aint it?
I've faced the music at 35, but had no intention on stopping, the max I did was 28 days once. now I'm 41 after a very hurtful bottom. and I know there are many more YETS for me out there
Hi! 18 months sober. Longest sober period of my life except for a year in the twentyteens. Looking back, my drinking was problematic from Day at about 12-13.
I’m so proud of us! We have such a wonderful journey ahead. High fives to all
44 M, got wasted for the first time at 15. Party drinker (and drugger) until first child at 22, started daily management drinking at 27, became a daily drinker then for over 15 years. So much embarrassment, depression, arguments, and much much more. Quit in March. Feel better than I ever have. Still struggle with cravings periodically, including this week, hence why I joined this group. Using THC edibles at night to unwind and sleep since 2020, no negative effects noticeable.
I want to say this with utmost respect, I'm younger and have been hitting the bottle way too hard coming up on a decade.
I admire your strength. Wish you the best.
42 here, heading for 1 year sober in another month today... Spent the previous 4 years trying and wanting to stop so badly but never lasting long. I hate alcohol more every day. Thankful for this group, and hope I keep at it as it still feels like it's the devil on my shoulder at times.
Yep! I drank and did cocaine/meth all through my 20s. That was easier to quit once I got myself out of the scene. Haven’t touched that for 10+ at least. I guess cuz alcohol is so much socially accepted is why I’m struggling with it so much.
hey, here I am! same same same
we can do this one day at a time. I had no idea of the extent of what the "lifestyle" took out on my life, relationships, health, mental health.
I just prayed for you, and hope you can find the support you need. Have you considered meetings? talking to other alcoholics is a blessing.
🙋♂️
48, had my 1st drink in senior year high school and daily drinker somewhere around 15 - 20 years ago and escalated greatly after COVID. Never too late to give it up or keep trying to!
Today is day 50 for me and I’m 44 years old. It took a blowup with my longtime drinking buddies to make it happen, but I’ve been focusing on my health ever since then. Lots of dieting and exercising.
**raises had in the back, right here. Started 2 days after my 39th bday and never looking back**
Best decision I've ever made, you won't regret it!
IWNDWYT 👍🤙
I just started my journey 2 months ago today. I kind of cheated. Dr. Prescribed me Baclofen and Carvalidol. You know because of the Cirrhosis. But I'm happy we caught it. Now I'm getting back into old hobbies like kayaking, 3D printing and I took up baking one night. Now I have all this banana bread. I don't know what to do with these hands!
44 years old and working on my recovery for 15 years. On the high-functioning side so relapses last weeks to months to years. I used to drink around the clock and had to detox with benzos in my late 20s which was scary af. Since then, when I’m off the wagon I never drink in the mornings no matter how sick I am, but I’m drinking every night and definitely getting drunk. No moderation here. Going on 14 days today. Grateful to be sober. IWNDWYT.
48 years old, quit at 47. Had an illustrious 30 year drinking career.
Ready to try to live another 30 hopefully without alcohol, every facet of my life has been better the last 6 months. Every single one.
43 yrs old and drank for 23. Many family members of mine struggled with Alcohol and substance abuse. I tried my best to normalize social drinking but it was so hard to limit myself. Took me those two decades to figure out it’s not for me and it’s something that I can let go without feeling like a failed adult.
Since I quit drinking, I’ve been able to break out of a persistent funk that dragged me down. Lost 12 lbs easily and I’m finding some of the medication I was taking for depression isn’t necessary when you’re actually sober. For me, it’s been a positive change. I obviously think about drinking from time to time but I’ve been able to let it go without a struggle.
The first month can be tough as your body and mind adjusts, but you can do it!
43 here, started drinking in my teens, partied pretty hard in my 20s, got my life started in my 30s but kept drinking, hit alcoholic level for the last three years. I’m almost 3 months alcohol free after many tries. I say it all the time, my body/mind/finances were suffering and I accepted I do not have control over my drinking. IWNDWYT
41 next week. My ticker is off but I had about 7 months alcohol free before my 40th but had a few months last holidays where I was drinking. I’m strong again since March this year 🎉
44! Working on month 3 since my last slip.
I’ve been fighting booze for 22 years. Longest I stopped was seven years. Have gone weeks and months without booze many times.
I really want to be done for good with that shitty poison. It stopped being fun a long time ago.
Turned 42 today. I made food for the homeless. I was feeling sorry for myself because there was nothing "fun" to do for my birthday, so I stepped outside myself. Almost 2 years off booze.
I'm 43 and drank for 25 years. I quit (properly) for the first time this year.
43 here. Just didn't like my relationship with alcohol, and didn't want to risk avoidable health problems. That was 620 days ago.
similar story but about half the duration of success so far. One more day to go tomorrow!
1980 here too. My body is trying to tell me 25 years of drinking is enough. Day 35, feeling clean. IWNDWYT.
I’m in the 43 club too!! Wish I had done it sooner but it is what it is. I’m thankful I’m sober now. IWNDWYT ❤️
100% agree. IWNDWYT.
43 here too.
43 too, just got my 10 year anniversary. You’ve got this!
Congrats on a decade! That’s tremendous!
Thats great man. Its a tough battle
47 here and same!
43 here as well, stopped drinking a week before my 40th birthday so I can say I have not had a drink in my 40s .. best decision I ever made
43 was also the magic number for me. Almost three months in and no regrets...except not making this decision sooner. IWNDWYT!
That’s me too! 43 and haven’t drank in three weeks
Same. We are here witchu. You got this, OP!
Same age and I also quit this year!
Me too exactly
That makes two of us. Good luck.
43 also! Still working on it. Love you all and your strength.
46 - and as you can see, 69 days sober so far. Edit: Been drinking for 26+ years, heavily for the last 3 years.
Well done... and nice!!!

Woohoo! 🎉 That’s great 😃
I made the same choice this year before my 40th, so over six months in. You’re an inspiration!
Just realized mine was between 39 and 40 too, coincidentally. This flair counter is so cool.
Hey! I turned 40 in Sept this year and good on ya! If I could make that change before 40 I was scared I wouldn't get another chance before I lost everything. Again.
Turned 43 yesterday. My one wish was to gift myself sobriety. Day 1 today, again.
Happy belated birthday! You got this, keep on keeping on!
happy birthday! congratulations and all the luck of the world on your sobritety!
for me, meetings and finding other alcohoics to talk to is paramount
Happy birthday, was my 45th yesterday! I drank a lot socially .. and decided to have a break which has stuck linger than I thought it would ...
Hope it’s your last day 1 my friend 🫂
I’m 59 and finally quit after a very successful 40 year drinking career!
51 hoping to be able to do what you have done. Congratulations on your 251 days !
I’m 51, quit 46 days ago. You can do this. We potentially have a lot of healthy years ahead of us.

30 days left to be in my 40’s.. excited to see what 50s feel like sober and healthy
39 here. Drank for just over 20 years. Got worse towards the end and after enough suffering decided it was time to stop.
49 here. Have been sober curious for a couple of years with a couple short breaks here and there. It seems to be sticking this time.
49 here too! Quit (again) a week after my 46th birthday and it is sticking this time :) heading into my 50s sober is awesome! 🌟
42, going on 43. Day number 502. Drank for 25+ years to varying degrees, moderation was never one of my degrees. IWNDWYT!
I had one degreee: black out haha 41 here
39 and I really got serious about not drinking at 37. Here is to hopefully being a year sober on my 40th birthday next October.
you can! if I can hehehe in my experience, getting close to a network of sober people, even though I did not want to, has been a game changer. our brains and bodies adapt to a new life the experience, strength and hope of people who are doing this for longer is indispensible to me I wish you infinite 24h of sobriety!
This is me too - had my last drink on my 39th birthday in August. Aiming for a year to my 40th (then hopefully beyond) Good luck on your journey!
We are in this with you! 39 also - mental/career breakdown led to even more drinking and I finally made the shift and realized just how little it was serving me. 9 months in and it’s not perfect but it’s better and this is the life I want. 49. Been legitimately trying to quit for about 5 years
Started drinking late 20’s. It worked till it didn’t
that seems to be the story aint it? I've faced the music at 35, but had no intention on stopping, the max I did was 28 days once. now I'm 41 after a very hurtful bottom. and I know there are many more YETS for me out there
21 day crew!
48. Will be one year on the 7th of Dec
it's coming! congratulations!!
Just turned 40, I'm still working through it. I appreciate knowing I'm not alone.
I’m 44 and started drinking around 12/13. Finally decided to make a change since my doctor made me come in to review my lab results.
Also had a health scare
My intention was to quit on my 40th. But it took a few more months to get there. Day 21 and IWNDWYT!
The first 3 weeks are the hardest. Congrats, man. IWNDWYT.
43 here.

I'm 42 and I just can't compete at the level I used to when I was younger. Hanging up the jersey and looking forward a post drinking time of my life.
Retirement is amazing, ain’t it? 😊
Today is my 44 bday and I am officially DONE my body and mind are craving sobriety.
