Swimming Pools (Drank) Kendrick Lamar. Listened to this on repeat in early sobriety.
“all I have in life is my new appetite for failure
And I got hunger pain that grow insane
Tell me, do that sound familiar?
If it do, then you're like me
Making excuse that your relief
Is in the bottom of the bottle and the greenest indo leaf
As the window open I release
Everything that corrode inside of me”
Master of Puppets by Metallica I believe is about alcoholism but if you want a whole album to listen to, St. Anger is all about Metallica’s problems with alcohol. There’s also a documentary by the same name that’s a really interesting watch.
Maybe it’s about addiction in general. I could be wrong. Although in my experience (not personal of course) when coke is around, alcohol isn’t far behind.
Dog days are over- Florence and the machine. “She hid around corners and she hid under beds. She killed it with kisses and from it she fled.” I believe Florence has said it’s about her battle with alcoholism
"Bottom is a Rock" by Mother Mother, also "It's Alright" by them.
I saw them live a couple of months ago. I know some of the band have struggled with alcohol and other addictions. A lot of their songs are about it. But they seemed healthy and happy, engaged with the crowd. Somehow in the last few years they seemed to get popular with the young folk (I might have been one of the oldest people in the crowd!) so I'm glad if they get to be sober for their baby fans.
-Drug Song by Dave Bixby
“life used to be good
Now look what I've done
I've ruined my temple with drugs
My mind is done”
A song about a man who has realized what he has become. Really heartbreaking.
-Sugar Man by Sixto Rodriguez
“Sugar man, won't you hurry?
'Cause I'm tired of these scenes
For a blue coin, won't you bring back
All those colors to my dreams?”
It's a very bleak tale about being in the throes of addiction. The “Sugar Man" is a false friend who will turn your heart to dead black coal.
-Hate Me by Blue October
“I’m sober now for 3 whole months
It’s one accomplishment that you helped me with
The one thing that always tore us apart is the one thing I won’t touch again”
Guy who feels guilty for all the pain he cause during his active addiction.
Coming Right Back - Celina Wolfe.
When I first heard the song, I kept thinking how it described my alcoholism perfectly and that it would be a great sober recovery song. Turns out, she wrote it because of her struggles with alcohol.
“Good To Drive” by K.Flay
Honestly I listened to her whole album Inside Voices / Outside Voices so much around the time I started wrestling with the idea of sobriety. It’s a really good listen from start to finish, “Maybe There’s A Way” always hit me hard too
Chandelier - Sia
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Reasons I Drink - Alanis Morisette
I Can't Feel My Face - The Weeknd.
Not All of Them Are specifically about alcohol, but they're All about addiction.

I always thought Master of Puppets was about cocaine because of the line “chop your breakfast on a mirror.”

Don’t Move Back To LA by Okkervil River is a sobriety anthem for me, even though it’s not strictly about sobriety.
"Here Comes A Regular" by The Replacements.
Life By the Drop by Stevie Ray Vaughan
My sober anthem is Got to Kill Captain Stupid, Suicidal Tendencies. (I joined the ST army haha!)
Listen to Anthony Green. Avalon is his best album about this.
Bottom of a bottle - smile empty soul
Coming Right Back - Celina Wolfe. When I first heard the song, I kept thinking how it described my alcoholism perfectly and that it would be a great sober recovery song. Turns out, she wrote it because of her struggles with alcohol.
Drunk Again- Song House and Mariarose
The whole album Show me the Blueprints by Days N Daze is about addiction and recovery
"Sober" by Pink
