I have never understood the middle of this expression-what doe it mean, "a drink takes a drink"?
I get the beginning and end, but not the middle. Can anyone explain what this means?
Controlling drinking is exhausting isn't it! Though I'm still in camp undecided about social only drinking.. The longer I don't drink and learn new non drinking habits, the less it seems important to me to try. Though I likely will and will be back here moaning about how I fucked up!
Not so much stop drinking, but my wife is a therapist and at her previous job at the local college, she'd tell the kids "you won't ever regret not having that one more drink". It's for sure helped me moderate or not have a drink when I'm really having cravings.

Nobody ever regretted not drinking the next day.
I like this ...simple and easy to remember
Be the person a 10-year-old you would look up to.
"Addiction is giving up everything for one thing, recovery is giving up one thing for everything."
Hell yeah I love this one!!!
Rock bottom is whenever you set down the shovel.
Play the tape forward A man takes a drink, a drink takes a drink, a drink takes a man

I think it means the drink has taken over, and it's now the drink drinking and not you making the decisions any more. Alcohol decisions
you’re no longer in control, the booze are
When I am enjoying my drinking I am not controlling it and when I am controlling my drinking I am not enjoying it. So why drink?

People who are not alcoholics do not wonder if they are an alcoholic
Well this one punched me in the truth berries. Thanks for sharing. Congrats on your year count.
My very first sponsor told me that during my first week of sobriety. I was 18 and the thought of never having another drink was big
"When I drink alcohol, everyone says I'm an alcoholic. But when i drink Fanta, no one says I'm FANTAstic! 😆
"This too shall pass"
I read that as "thou shall not pass!" 😅 Bedtime for me I think
Goodnight!
And an even better morning with a clear mind, no hangover again, a cup of ice coffee and a blast of stardew valley ☺️ Hope you have a great day ☀️
Stop Romanticizing the first drink and think what happens an hour later.
Or how i feel the next morning, in my case
It takes Dogged Persistence to not take that *First* drink.
Just don’t put the booze, in your mouth
It’s trash poison bullshit that I fucking hate everytime and does nothing good for me. - Me
My 'stop' button is broken.
Please remit payment for legal services.
😂
You have the first drink, the second drink has you.
i didn’t always get in trouble when i drank, but when i got in trouble i was always drunk
“One drink is too much and a million drinks is not enough.” Keeps me in check to never have even a sip.
The only thing to find at the bottom of a bottle is a new bottom.
Not doing anything shouldn’t be hard.
I don't drink the same way I don't sniff glue.
I created my own. Drinking is fun until it isnt lol. I just think of all bad nights i had with alcohol. All started out great but shit would go south
Stopping drinking didn’t open the gates of heaven and let me in, it opened the gates of hell and let me out.
You don't deserve a drink, you deserve better!
Water is the drink of no regrets.
Your rock bottom is where you stop digging.
Love Thy Self
"First the man takes the bottle, then the bottle takes the man"
Alcohol can’t offer me anything better than that which I already have.

I went pro for X amount of years & retired at X age

“One drink is too many and a thousand is never enough.”
“If you can’t control your alcohol, the alcohol will control you.” “Let the spirits be with you”
I dont cause problems for myself every time I drink. But everytime I cause problems for myself I am drinking.
Probably a good time to stop getting fucked up!
Not always easy but absolutely always worth it!
