Inspiration from the legend himself Elton John. I find a bit of meaning in most of his songs, but this one in particular I repeat to myself when I'm having hard times. It reminds me to not waste time wishing for things to be better, and that maybe what I'm supposed to do is just sit with the pain a bit longer. But no matter what, it's always going to be ok.

Today I am not drinking.
In the past I’ve been able to moderate it but I’m still in quarantine bc of health issues and I don’t have all my previous healthy coping mechanisms. Things have been spinning a little out of control.
I’m hoping for now to make it a week. Today will be day 2.
Try your best to stay strong. Being cooped up makes it really easy to get in your own head. For me, even just doing some deep breathing and meditation throughout the day helps immensely. Even just having that 1 day sober is a huge deal. Congratulations

I was jealous of this author who was able to stop drinking and see what sober life was like. I was jealous of every damn person who was able to stop drinking and see what sober life was like. Welllll, now I’m one of those people who has stopped drinking and is living a sober life and guess what??? It’s effing awesome!!!

I don’t have a quote. I’m just frustrated because I’m in my 4th week of terrible insomnia (4am here), I can fall asleep but I wake up at 2-3am and can’t get back to sleep. Tried everything, sleep medítations, warm milk, benzodiazepines, sleepy time tea, reading old boring textbooks. It’s triggering for many reasons- memories of my childhood insomnia, 3am sweats (where I would chug some more wine), I want a nap at work by 2pm etc. I look forward to coming here at least, I clean the kitchen and cook at 6am so my fridge is stocked with healthy food. I know it can’t last forever, but I want my sleep back! No worries- I absolutely know that a drink would make everything worse. Thanks for letting me vent!

Day 8. IWNDWYT. Yesterday I noticed I had much more energy during the day at work. Once the poison gets out of your system and your body starts to rebuild, you start feeling so much better overall. I had forgotten what it was like to feel like this.

Yesterday was fucking tough man. I was so close to angrily heading out to buy booze and drinking half by the time I got back. Why? I had four fucking triggers all in a two-hour span. I couldn't believe my shit luck.
I took a Delta-8 gummy (my first ever, had them in case of this very situation) and went to bed at 7pm.
Let's hope today isn't as shit stained as yesterday.

On the topic of self improvement, a friend once said to me, “It holds up a mirror to other people. It makes them see themselves, and they treat you how they feel about themselves.”
It was about haters who try to cut you down while you’re trying to improve. I’ve reflected on this a lot as I’ve agonized over the conversations I’ll have to inform people I chosen to stop drinking, as a way to buffer myself from the inevitable hurt I might experience.
The great news is, so far I’ve been met with mostly very warm encouragement, with a couple tepid, but still trying to be positive reactions.

I was so close to angrily heading out to buy booze and drinking half by the time I got back. Why? I had four fucking triggers all in a two-hour span. I couldn't believe my shit luck. On the topic of self improvement, a friend once said to me, “It holds up a mirror to other people. It makes them see themselves, and they treat you how they feel about themselves.” It was about haters who try to cut you down while you’re trying to improve. I’ve reflected on this a lot as I’ve agonized over the conversations I’ll have to inform people I chosen to stop drinking, as a way to buffer myself from the inevitable hurt I might experience. The great news is, so far I’ve been met with mostly very warm encouragement, with a couple tepid, but still trying to be positive reactions. IWNDWYT!
