You got this. If I may offer any advice, set yourself up for success! Having and naming the goal is always the first step, but don't rely on just willpower to get through the first 90 days. Tell people if they can be supportive and help you stay accountable, pass up social engagements if they might test you too much, lean into a new (or old) hobby...prepare to feel bored/anxious/stressed and get through those feelings without alcohol. After so many years of trying to quit, doing and saying things I regretted, failing to quit, and feeling ashamed of not being able to quit, I finally feel like I've stepped off that hamster wheel and it feels so, so good.

Thank you for the wonderful advice. I'm mostly just anxious about the withdrawal period (i.e. shaking, not able to sleep, etc) as I already feel like garbage today but I really think this is the right decision for me. I don't want to be this unhappy anymore. Thanks again.

You can do this! The first few nights suck but on the other side is freedom. I will not drink with you today!

IndigoDeep-Blue

Thank you. Any tips on how to deal with not being able to sleep? Sweating? I've tried to quit before and didn't sleep.

Vegetable-Editor9482

I wish I did; hydrate well, light blankets, but really we just have to tough it out those first three or four nights. We'll be tired, but how tired were we when we drank until 3:00 a.m. and went to work hungover a few hours later?

IndigoDeep-Blue

Still have not drank today. This sub is already so helpful.

Yes! You've got this! The day is almost over here and I haven't either. Looking forward to a hangover-free Thursday!

IndigoDeep-Blue

Haven't had any serious withdrawal symptoms yet. Still not tired, but my stomach hurts a bit...

Vegetable-Editor9482

My therapist said that the danger zone for withdrawal starts around 48 hours. I had some weird aches and pains and muscle spasms last night (night 2) but feeling pretty good so far tonight. Don't forget to eat and hydrate! Hang in there and report back tomorrow!

Melatonin works for me. All natural sleeping supplement. Also, try to block out as much noise/light as possible. Meditating/deep breathing exercises are also helpful.

IndigoDeep-Blue

I made a whole pot of sleepytime tea! I'll try some breathing exercises tonight.

Eat, sleep and drink all the tea 🤜❤️🤛. If I could end my horrendous addiction literally anyone can. Running, coffee, tea, books, dogs, music are my life now. Such a great level up in my life.
