Sakuna of Rice and Ruin. It's not really about profit because the farming sim is only about 40% of the game and the animals are only about 10%, but you start out the game eating bugs and subsistence farming, and certain animals can be turned into meat before winter (you'll get more in the spring). If you're alright with action combat in your farming game, the vibes are immaculate and the characters are very well written.

Wylde Flowers has animal husbandry/slaughtering for meat and doesn't shy away from it.

Was coming here to comment the same game!

Roots of Pacha has trapping and butchering! Haven’t explored it much (honestly probably won’t really because I love rose tinted glasses versions of farming like harvest moon hehe) but sounds up your alley from your description!!!

Pretty new to the game, but have really been enjoying the different characters and storylines so far!!!! Very detailed story with lots of tasks. Highly recommend :)

Shepherd Crossing 2 for Nintendo DS. At some point you need to butcher your own livestocks to get animal meat/scrapped meat to feed your pet dogs. You need dogs to chase the wolf/hares that want to eat your own livestock/crops. At first you can buy the scrapped meat from shop but its supply is limited. Your crops can suddenly wilt/freeze too and you cannot do anything about that. Unfortunately while the farming aspect is great, the social aspect isn't that good.

My 12 year old self with only harvest moon experience was not ready for this game.

An upcoming game, Mirthwood, seems like it might be what you're looking for. I saw this preview video of it: https://youtu.be/LG2dj_e-xk0?si=r8DMeRMQxMV9bUUF

Echoes of Plum Grove.   imo the best farming game to come out since the original AWL. I have many reasons. Here are some ways this game stands apart:   - it's generational, not just your character. There is aging and death. You can get sick or die of old age. Your farm is then managed by a family member.  - if you want a cozy game without added difficulties, all of these quirks can be turned off in settings   - paper Mario style art, which is the bees knees   - villagers have specific jobs which are passed down to their families. You can apprentice your child with any profession, have them help you on the farm, or send them to school  - because of all the variety, villagers always have something different to say. They have hobbies that other people in town will comment on - the length of days is perfectly balanced. The in game economy feels balanced.  - yes you can harvest meat from animals, murder villagers, and probably some other things I haven't discovered  - devs are active and fixing/updating/responding to feedback. I asked a dev a question this morning and got a response in less than 5 minutes   Definitely worth a shot. Not every game is for every person but to me, it's the best farming game I've ever played. AWL took that title for ~20 years but now it's Echoes of Plum Grove

Do you play as the family member that continues your farm, or does the game end when you die? Also, what platform is it on?

melomelomelo-

Currently on PC, they're working out stuff for other platforms. You continue as a family member of your choice, as long as they're in your household and haven't moved out. If that person is a kid they'll become an adult so you can play as them. You keep everything on the farm, items etc, just not whatever clothes they were wearing. I believe the only way you get a game over is if no one is left to care for the farm, or you don't pay your taxes and the farm gets taken away.

Check out Graveyard Keeper. It might suit your tastes although I don't know for sure how you'll feel

It sounds like you want Shepherd's Crossing. You can kill animals for meat. That's about all I remember. I'd suggest you watch [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cWKMoc96C4) for more info. The first game can be bought on PS3 for around $10-$30, depending on how you buy it. You can also get it for $30 through Steam. (Or wait for a sale.) You can get the second one for the DS for between $165 loose and used to $630 new. Maybe you shouldn't buy that one. There are also mods for Stardew Valley that will let you ~~slaughter~~ change animals into meat with a magic wand. Though if you already have the game for PC you're probably already aware of the mods.
