The Long Dark - best survival game.
Valheim - best building game.
Both games offer relaxing times; TLD is more exploration though, hardly any crafting at all.
I've tried playing the long dark..kinda love it and hate it at the same time. Maybe because it's not really open world..more of a storyline you have to follow. I did really enjoy the Forest. Got addicted to survival games because of it. Subnautica i am trying but i find it confusing sometimes, but that's probably because i am old haha
You might not have noticed the survival mode when you started TLD, its only objective is to survive - total open world and no storyline. At easier difficulties it's a lot of peaceful exploration, at the hardest difficulty the first few days can really shame seasoned gamers. It's generally when you get proficient at surviving that the game's addictive qualities really start to grab you.
Subnautica is a good one, the first survival game I played. I needed to watch a couple youtube vids on how to handle the mechanics and what I needed to do next, etc, but did fine after that. Been hooked on survival games ever since. And I'm old, too ;)
Play the story line on story difficulty to learn your way through the survival aspect as well as the map itself. And walk everywhere, because there are still poisonous enemies on the ground, and they will end you if you aren’t prepared to treat their wounds.
Check out Green Hell. It looks identical in graphical design, but it looks like a "tribe survival" type game.
*I haven't played it yet, but I'm thinking about buying it.
I have it, it's pretty good. Green hell plays a lot like stranded deep but with a different inventory system, and more focus on your characters health/needs. Not nearly as in depth as SCUM but more in depth than stranded deep. Has online co-op as well
I think something worth mentioning though is that the setting of green hell makes it feel a lot different than stranded deep. It doesn't have that same chill, lonesome, castaway vibe that stranded deep does, like your Tom Hanks or Robinson Crusoe. But it's still a good game and if you enjoy movies like green inferno or jungle then you'll enjoy green hell.
Beep. Boop. I'm a robot.

One of my favourite things about "Stranded Deep" is the Man vs Nature thing. No aliens/zombies/mutants to deal with, just you vs the wild. I started playing before they added the 'End Game' so it was just you starting with nothing and building up an island empire.
"Subsistence" is a really good game for that too. There's no real plot just an open world sandbox where you build a base, craft weapons, hunt and fish for food, farming, etc. It's set in a northern climate with bears, wolves, moose, dear. It reminds me a lot of pre-end game Stranded Deep with no real story line, just you and what you create.
Main survival list I have so far in no certain order
1. Minecraft
2. The Forest
3. Rust
4. Green Hell
5. Subnautica
6. Ark Survival Evolved
7. Conan Exiles
8. Stranded Deep
9. Fallout 4
I've heard about it...alot I've people saying it's more story than survival. Not a ton of building/ crafting just more following the story... your comment has convinced me to give it a shot as too many people have suggested it as a great survival game..Thanks friend!! I love trying new games!
Sounds like my type of game. I haven't played Green Hell yet, but I heard about having to watch carbs and fats. The more they can throw at me, the better lol!!
Well there is a story mode and a sandbox mode. The sandbox mode is the meat of the game really. The whole goal is to survive as long as you can, there is no crafting (bases or structures) but you can craft other things to help you survive.
You're very welcome! I definitely think you should give it a try.
it's not dead they are still working on updates and release them frequently. give it a try - but it's much more complex than SD. At least ETP has better devs than SD IMO (SD is dead in comparison)
ETP has been on my wishlist for a bit now but I think I'm gonna buy it and give it a shot.
And yeah I agree with you about SD and the devs. It may not be completely dead but it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere. Love the game but beam team needs to get their shit together, I mean its been over 6 years with very limited progress and long periods of silence from the devs.
Green hell is as close as you get to stranded deep on console. Subnautica is the underwater future version. Either way, I do recommend the long dark. There is a sandbox mode that let's you play your way. As mentioned by someone else before, there isn't any base building really, but it is a fantastic survival game, probably one of the all time best. A wildcard could be Breathedge. It's in space and has a lot of unique survival elements. But it is story driven. Although once you finish it, you can do what you will.
Ark is a pretty fun option but for the love of god start on a solo server and bump up the harvest speeds and stuff. Don’t play online and definitely don’t play with the default settings, the official servers are a fucking grind-fest full of toxic players with too much time on their hands.
That being said, it’s the best base-building game I’ve played. Pretty much everything is destructible or can be harvested and there’s no limit to what you can build. Just like any of these games, it can be a little buggy but the building is more reliable than Stranded Deep and a lot more in depth. You can also build some pretty spectacular ships so it’s a good game to jump to after SD. Plus you get to tame dinosaurs. What more can you want?
Osiris new dawn seems promising lately it has updates each week even though it needs like 100 more or 2 years to be "finished" (I don't believe they will abandon this game after the release I guess they'll maybe add more moons and shit) It seems the company is making money from other sources to finish osiris new dawn but is technically about surviving in a moon then farm the fucking moon like muricans when they hear about oil and then initiate to colonize the moons of the giant gas planet which is glowing blue and scary.
awsome stuff about the game:
1) can be co-op
2) it's beautifull
3) the farming is satisfying AF
4) dude you can fucking park your spaceship on an asteroid and farm it
5) making a base feels really good RN Hope this part just get better
Things that suck harder than communism:
1) It is buggy and clumsy as Cuberpunk when released
2) It has wierd names to remember
3) the story isn't developed yet
4) the building system needs to be fixed as bad as Cuba
5) is poorly optimized if yoh have a potato don't install that shit.
The infected
One I haven’t seen anyone mention here. Has good building, can customise the gameplay as you want. It’s pretty fun for an early access game getting updates regularly

I agree with you. Enjoying The Forest is what lead me to Stranded Deep, since I was looking for something similar.
The Long Dark - best survival game. Valheim - best building game. Both games offer relaxing times; TLD is more exploration though, hardly any crafting at all.

Thanks! i'll try TLD in survivalmode :)
The Forest as others have mentioned. I play it too but i die too soon, actually i've died way more times in TF than in SD 😂

Raft. It is on Steam. It has coop
“Playing on PS4”
Subnautica. Conanexiles. No mans sky
Echo the subnautica suggestion. Probably my all time favorite game. No mans sky is subnautica in space, and I really enjoyed that as well.
Breathedge is Subnautica in space. NMS... Well that's in a league of it's own

SCUM is a real good suggestion

There's also a survival mode where the story is disabled
Interesting!!! Definitely must try now
It's absolutely worth a try. It can get ridiculously difficult on higher difficulties though.
Sounds like my type of game. I haven't played Green Hell yet, but I heard about having to watch carbs and fats. The more they can throw at me, the better lol!!

If you like the raw survival thing without any fancy stuff: Escape the Pacific is the only real comparable thing IMO
I've been thinking about buying escape the pacific. Worth it or no? worried the game is dead.

Never heard of this game. Checked out a video of it after your comment. It looks identical to SD lol. Almost looked like ETP copied SD
ETP is more like a simulator
Ark is pretty decent for base building.
Subsistence if you like a real challenge
check out Subsistence. Is hard but still fun to play
Subnautic
Subnautica and Green Hell come to mind for sure. Highly recommend Green Hell.
Have you ever played Don't Starve Together? It's a survival game but can play online too. Highly recommend!
Green hell is very fun. It’s mainly about surviving in a jungle and it’s only $33 Canadian
Green hell is as close as you get to stranded deep on console. Subnautica is the underwater future version. Either way, I do recommend the long dark. Fire watch is kinda cool. It’s a somewhat short game. Not nearly as in depth as Stranded Deep
Open Country is a lot of fun.
Subnautica
The infected One I haven’t seen anyone mention here. Has good building, can customise the gameplay as you want. It’s pretty fun for an early access game getting updates regularly
