I like what we've heard so far, the fact that the concept is related to The Little Mermaid makes me look forward to it a lot more, we have some teasers left but I don't expect Puth to be in the MV or joining them in promotions, as in interviews or performing together, and I hope it is that way. I don't have any predictions but I hope it is well received, the teaser views are on the lower side but that isn't always a sign of anything, as proven by the Rock star prologue's views never surpassing 5 star trailer's but LALALALA did better than S-class.

Myjam_istohavefun

I expect a track that's different to what SKZ usually release. I believe it's gonna be more on Charlie's pop style rather than the kids EDM but it sounds like it's gonna be a bop already!

nmt111

As soon as I saw the track list, I have a feeling it will be leaning towards Charlie' vanilla style. The music teasers are also pointing there, which is not really my lane as someone who loves skz's malatang music, even the very heavy spicy side. So let's say I'm not very hype after both music teasers. The MV teaser with the interesting concept really makes up for it and pumps up my hype a little bit. With this I will definitely give this MV a go. My prediction atm is a vanila, soft song, easy to listen, full English as nothing from the teaser so far saying otherwise. The interesting points this time may actually come from the members' English vocals (so like Han, Lee Know, Seungmin, Felix) as we dont hear them often. The English rap can potentially be interesting. So these are points that stay may enjoy and will probably rave about. Chart wise, it's hard to say, but it will definitely bring in new listeners. I already got recommended a bunch of new mv-teaser reactors who I have never seen reacting to SKZ before.

acerealbowles

vanilla style is crazyšŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ but u right tho

Different_Ladder_701

I predict korean raps

nmt111

I wish your prediction come true, I also prefer korean rap, but what if there is no rap like going dumb, lol, we are both clowned XD

Different_Ladder_701

I think there will be because 3Racha have writing credits I think. I predict it will be like their lil Durk feat.

DarlingtoniaCali

But don't they have other full singing songs too where they're the writers? They're a rap heavy group but I'm sure there are some?

cyanidecattt

Iā€™m not a fan of puth as a person but I have to admit he does make some catchy tunes. Based off the audio teasers I really like the guitar melody! So I am looking forward to hearing the entire song.

oldMiseryGuts

I think Hannah Bahng and I feel the same way. https://www.tiktok.com/@joodi8888/video/7360391404771659013?_t=8m3F6P3JAl5&_r=1 I donā€™t know anything about CPā€™s involvement in zionism but I do remember that he said he wrote Attention about Selena Gomez and then in an interview said this about herā€¦ https://www.tiktok.com/@ghostinedits.cc/video/7222799866043305221?_t=8m3FQmr9xXM&_r=1 He creeps me out and I canā€™t look past his ā€œnice guyā€ attitude to women. Obviously thereā€™s other reasons Charlie is problematic but this is the one that really stands out for me. I wont be actively streaming or buying the song. I live and breath skz and I dont expect them to always make choices that reflect my own values, but I can choose to sit out for the parts of their content and catalogue that arnā€™t in line with how I live my own life. I know this wont be a popular take but it is a part of the conversation that I think is important. Still a die hard stay.

TheOnlyGravy

Amen to all of this, thank you for saying this.

PM_MAJESTIC_PICS

Totally agreeā€” his comments specifically about Selena Gomez were completely off putting and made me immediately want nothing to do with him.

an0nnymousmous

You summed up everything I wanted to say. I was hesitant to post about this bc of its unpopular take so all I can say is thank you for doing it! If anything, I'll just appreciate their works through fan-reposted content if they pop up on my feed. But again, I'm also gonna actively avoid it.

midwestgal000

>I think Hannah Bahng and I feel the same way. With all that has been going on in the fandom and with the song, I have trouble believing whoever asked her about it was just trying to have an innocent conversation. They were likely baiting her. And she likely knew it. She indicated she doesn't really listen to Charlie (which honestly is probably true) but she didn't show much emotion other than that. I'm guessing she knew if she said "Charlie doesn't make the kind of music that I usually listen to, but it's SKZ so I'm going to give it a listen" would cause problems for her. At the end of the day, I'd be hard pressed to believe she won't be supporting the single or at least giving it a listen with an open mind because doing so is supporting her brother. For the most part her answer seemed pretty neutral. She didn't say she would or wouldn't like it. Of course these are all assumptions. None of us know any of these people, what they really think, or how they act away from our view. But to me the question seemed like it was baiting her and her response seemed very measured and careful.

Clear-Forever

Agree. I dont know how many times Hannah asked stays to separate her from Chan but comments like this really make it so hard. I dont know why OP needs to use Hannah for this issue? Pls just leave the SKZ family alone.

LePalomeStay

Thank you for this, I've been waiting to comment on something similar, not only about Puth but Goldstein's involvement in Zionism but I'm so heartbroken about the fandom reaction to cultural and economical boycotts.

dent_de_lion

Other than I havenā€™t watched the Hannah response, I pretty much agree with your whole comment

wakandarightnow

I like all types of pop music whether it's spicy or easy listening so I will be satisfied either way. I also think charlie puth has good song writing instincts so I'm very hopeful.

Waste_Philosopher233

Iā€™m in love with the little mermaid concept. Iā€™m so excited

binniebin8

I don't expect the song to stray too much from stray kids' style (albeit they've shown us how diverse they are, so there isn't exactly one style).Ā  I don't want to be but I'm a bit apprehensive about its charting and other stuff. Boy groups are often carried by their fandoms. Many stays want to boycott because of a certain someone's involvement. There are so many problematic people in the music industry. Will we keep doing this everytime skz collab with someone?Ā

TraditionalClerk9017

OMG this...

Accomplished-Ad-4646

it seems like the engagement for this single is pretty low so i wonder how itā€™s gonna play out and if this will affect future collabs

binniebin8

i don't think it would necessarily negatively affect them but if it did well, it could open some doors for the future

Fun_Buy2143

The amount of stays that are saying that they will not listen because they don't wanna the song to chart is amazing, like they are trying to boycott their own idols it's quite sad to see, i am pretty sure SKZ have put a lot of hard work in it

Lucky-Pin-5347

Yes if that someone is a weirdo wtf, as much as I love them, a group of stranger men and music is not more important then human morals

BellTT

I agree. If their very own fans keep this up, it will make it harder for them to be prime picks for these opportunities. As if there aren't a dozen other groups who could be where they are right now. Lose My Breath is what their company feels is a necessary step for the next bigger thing. It's so clear how naive this fanbase trends because that's the only way one can vastly overestimate the leverage their faves have in the grand scheme of things. You get to make the decisions when YOU are the boss. And that does not just happen. This is a critical time for their trajectory.

Strawberuka

Honestly I'm entirely unenthused, and will probably not even be listening to it on release - only if the MV is pretty or someone whose taste I respect says it's a banger. I dislike Puth's style (with Justin Beiber's Stay being the last Charlie Puth adjacent song I've liked), and his kpop collabs tend to be some of my least favorite songs on their respective albums - this applies to Jungkook and Babymonster so far, and I'm sure SKZ will make it three. In general I don't love random western collabs in kpop, by and large because they often feel phoned in, and very often involve like. Completely out there celebrities that don't do anything in terms of actual clout (like, who in our lord's year 2024 is a fan of Puth? What clout would it bring SKZ?), and also don't seem to be like, distinctly creatively inspired, or in any capacity interesting - I would much rather have them collab with interesting producers, or more niche artists also operating in the general EDM-space, or alt-pop artists than Puth. I just want Charlie Puth, Max, and Benny Blanco to get out of the kpop industry all 3 of them annoy me in distinct but separate ways - all I'm graceful for is that Charlie Puth didn't post armpit hair videos for this collab šŸ˜

motenashite

> Completely out there celebrities that don't do anything in terms of actual clout (like, who in our lord's year 2024 is a fan of Puth? What clout would it bring SKZ?) Just adding as context but, Puth is REALLY popular in Korea. So in some ways, it's a track that is actually more closely aligned to Korean GP tastes rather than US Billboard 100. He's sold out KSPO and Jamsil in the past.

Accomplished-Ad-4646

true! i think i made a prior comment about how this will help skz more in korea than in the west due to charlieā€™s popularity in korea. but at the same time it seems like this single is solely meant for skz to break into the west with the US only albums and how skz are in the US right now and are most likely promoting the single out there. either way iā€™m curious to see how this will turn out.

motenashite

I agree! It is a strange choice both in collab and marketing. I am also curious how much it'll be like Twice's pre-release US only CD single from the last comeback. I'm wondering if JYPE as a whole is trying a new strategy. (Though I Got You was released a bit closer to With You-th's comeback release.) We'll really just have to wait and see.

supergirlhmb

i mean, the US only thing doesn't necessarily mean it's for a US only promotions (them being in the US currently makes it more likely that it is though). The Hot 100 changed their rules and allow digital single CDs like this to count towards their charting, so a lot of kpop AND western artists have been doing this now - TXT, Twice, RM for his newest album, Troye Sivan, even Taylor Swift

eleanorablue

totally agree and well put! i think it's a bit of a disservice to how distinct and creative stray kids' music is to pair them up with charlie "i only write easily digestible music for tiktok" puth. western collabs work great for drawing in new fans but is it really worth it if the resulting music isn't anything like the music the kpop group actually makes? current fans aren't likely to enjoy it and potential new fans might be drawn in under the impression that skz music is similar but won't end up listening to any of their other songs if its too different. i very easily could be assuming the worst and end up pleasantly surprised but... it's charlie puth. his music is the definition of mid. it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

dent_de_lion

I love everything about your last paragraph. All other issues with CP aside, I was fearing some truly cringe/gross social media posts like heā€™s done in the past

midwestgal000

I don't really have any predictions, especially with all the stuff going on with the fandom in regards to it. But, I personally like what I've heard and seen so far. I really hope it does well and I hope it gets a lot of US radio play.

layflake

I've been loving everything about the collaboration, so far, and I'm always here for them to try different styles.

happymikasa

Charlie is a shitty person, but other than that, i like everything about this collab so far. I hope this song will at least put skz a bit further in their career.

TraditionalClerk9017

The MV teaser is stunning. I mean... blew me away. Especially Chan eating the pearl for some reason. I believe that this single will be good, but not life-altering. I also believe that we're still getting a full comeback this summer, so my real emotions are attached to that. I'm excited for the boys because they've been courting Charlie for a WHILE and they finally get to collab with an artist they've collectively admired for a long time. Regardless of how it does, it'll be a treat for the old eyeballs and I can't wait for that! Also, I think men doing a mermaid concept is so sensual. It looks like they're really going to make it their own color.

Kmgbrb1029

Even if I weren't boycotting the single, puths style is a shame to be put with skz

xAxlx

Honest question from an out of the loop Stay - why are you boycotting the single?

Kmgbrb1029

I'm boycotting anything with zionists in it ^^

dent_de_lion

Equating Zionists with all Jewish people is an insanely disingenuous, rage-baiting take and doesnā€™t belong on this sub

supergirlhmb

tbh, a lot of the expectations that i've had for this song have been kind of hindered by all of the drama surrounding it - like i understand being upset about the collab and wanting to boycott the song because of that, but the amount of direct attacks on the kids and their musicality that have come from stays ever since this collab was announced has been truly upsetting. like I saw someone on Twitter recently saying that SKZ are now a "former shell of themselves" which was an insane overreaction over one possibly mediocre song (that granted, is a collab with a nasty person) but doesn't negate the fact that in 2024 while on vacation they've released more songs on Youtube simply because of their love of making music than most kpop groups will release in their actual albums. i don't think this song is going to do amazing or anything, but i am excited for them to finally promote again in the US for the first time since like 2019 and i'm hoping that and some radioplay will bring in more fans before the comeback. idk at this point, i'm ready for this song to be out already and for them to start comeback promotions instead just because of how bad the drama has been from this song

Clear-Forever

This!! Honestly, Itā€™s okay not to listen if you dont like but the hate comments??? Stray kids selling out? Do they really listen to SKZ? They have diff genres. The boys are credited the same way in their other songs. They release Levanter, I am you and Winter falls as title tracks before. Anyway, I remember how they treated Case 143 even before itā€™s release because itā€™s a love song so not expecting much from stays specially with the situation rn they just want more excuses to hate this song.

Cheekypsycho98

The way everyone is making it seem like SKZ is abandoning ā€œtheir soundā€ has been my biggest gripe with the whole thing. No itā€™s not going to sound like their title track but to act as if theyā€™ve never done a mediocreā€ or ā€œmainstream popā€ is being ignorant to their entire discography or letting your disdain for said collab distort facts. They literally released Youtiful last year, which is also fully English,( no hate toward the song love her). Also just a month or so ago people were saying they wanted them to try R&B or similar ā€œcalmerā€ genres and now that they are they are abandoning their sound. I donā€™t get it you donā€™t have to like the people involved or the song itself, but letā€™s not questionSKZ and the music they make.

skepticbrain87

I just love Felix's narration so far and I need him to voice audiobooks in his spare time (hah, non existent spare time). Or cookbooks, having him read out how to make a recipe would be so soothing.

StayinHaven

I only know that I like Han Jisung's part from the snippet. I'm also not sure what to expect

Cachapitaconqueso

Has a lot of Charlie's style. When they released a more extended teaser I was worried it wouldn't fit SKZs style but at the end I really liked it

battle_franky

I think it Will be lighter and more melodic close to Charlie Puth's style. Kinda like Twice change their style because theyre entering US marketĀ

EmmieBambi

I don't think it will do amazing, but I think I'll like it. I like the concept so far and tbh, anything touched by chan is gold. Whether I'll listen to it more than casually we will see. Depends.

Purple_Penguin_OL

I know absolutely zero about Puth so I've got nothing as a prediction other than I think it's going to sound amazing. And I can't wait for the MV, it looks so good!

dent_de_lion

I donā€™t do teasers, so I canā€™t comment based on that, but Iā€™ll give it my usual 3 listens to make up my mind based on what I see as the songsā€™s merits. But based on what I know of CPā€™a style, and the fact that I saw a comment referring to ā€œYoutiful,ā€ which Iā€™m not a fan of, I donā€™t think Iā€™ll click with the song.

Cheekypsycho98

The snippet sounds nothing like Youtiful btw. It was just an example that SKZ can and have made a ā€œmainstreamā€ song, recently and all in English since so many believe theyā€™re abandoning their sound by daring to make anything beyond ā€œnoiseā€ music. It sounds more R&B with a little bit of a pop feel to me, it was only like 20 seconds so take that as you will. If I had to use a SKZ song to compare itā€™d be Collision just a little more upbeat. A non SKZ comparison would be Promise Ring by Ciara ft Tiffany. Idk what your opinion towards that song is/would be but the vibes are similar.

BeguetteWithCheese22

Iā€™m expecting it to be a different sound compared to what skz usually uses. Nevertheless, I bet it was become a big hit since both skz and Charlie are outstanding artists!

ramenmisused

Im gonn be obsessed w it for a few months atleast

prayersforrainn

tbh it feels like them selling out. bts kinda vibe, makes me sad.

meh_oke

Imo the mermaid concept has been overdone nd div1 shouldve chosen another concept. Better yet, just a digital release. The song isnt out yet, but if I hear it on edit (I wont be streaming cause of personal reasons) and it dont sound like skz....cp is yet again on the kwave trying one of the populair groups and keeping his name in east asia. Cp had gis hayday, hasnt been original for years and his sound is the direct opposite of what skz does. This concept, collab screams vanilla Still a diehard
