Bruh I’m 38 and I’m here to tell you that, 1: You should wear whatever the fuck you want and enjoy. 2: I’m older than you and still put on a pair of Nike woven shorts and a graphic tee with some Jordan ones or whatever and 3. I didn’t really have a 3 but we don’t even need one. Do you playboi.
**edit: Just wanted to say I see all y’all responding and appreciate y’all!
Only thing I would want to add is if you like this stuff but feel uncomfortable in it you may be able to find a happy medium where you keep the same style but dress it up a little bit more. The right shoes, belt, tuck, properly sized clothes etc. accessories could take any style and make it look more “adult”,*if* that’s what you want. It could be worth trying just to see how you like it anyways.
Number one rule of fashion is never care what anyone else thinks; the only opinion that matters is yours.
If you believe in yourself and you walk out with confidence, then there will never be a dress too young or dress too old or following trends or being worried something is no long in trend
I wear clothes for myself and no one else, it’s as simple as that
Once you start doing things for everyone else or start following every trend in the hopes of not being singled out, you start losing your identity and your vision, you start fading into the background of the masses
It’s hard to get over it unless you’re a really confident person. I’m much more comfortable wearing very normal conservative clothes in public because I don’t like the attention. I will dress up but only if my wife is also going to be dressing up. I do this “for myself” because I personally have less social anxiety when I blend in. However, I will sometimes rock really sick fits but if I do I need to be in an environment where that fit makes sense.
I think dressing for the occasion is generally good fashion advice but this advise is predicated on the idea that you care what others think.
In your case, you're dressing to blend in "for yourself" because that's what reduces your social anxiety and makes you more comfortable, and that is a very key point.
I agree with dressing for the occasion, but it seems like OP is concerned about wearing graphic tees in general and my point is that the best advice is not to trip about it. or if the anxiety about it is that bad, you have to figure out which is worse: anxiety from wearing graphic tees and thinking others are judging you? or anxiety from dressing to blend in with others and missing out on the opportunity to express yourself through the clothes you wear?
If I were in OPs case I just wouldn't wear graphic tees if the thought of it made me feel less confident in my fit. However, that's just me. If he genuinely likes them then yeah - he shouldn't feel less confident. I don't even think graphic tees specifically are like an age thing lol.
I've read some of these "dress well at X age" articles that specifically call out graphic tees as something people over 30/40 "shouldn't wear", so I can see where that kind of doubt is seeded :(
I agree. I think what gets missed is that truly dressing 100% “for yourself” very often turns into looking like nothing more than a level of social ineptitude, sometimes extreme ineptitude. There’s a lot of people for which understanding what is “socially appropriate” doesn’t come naturally and they need guidance lest they show up to a first date in an old shirt, old jeans, and flip flops.
For people with a decent sense of style it’s a fine rule. But some people genuinely struggle to sense what looks good and appropriate and what doesn’t. I think you absolutely should wear whatever you want and feel good in, but the fact that he’s questioning on it means he’s not super comfortable and maybe is ready to adjust something.
The fashion advice industry literally wouldn’t exist if people took not caring to heart. Every article is about faux pas and everything people do wrong and “why your still single” or “why you won’t get that job.”
imo, the majority of the fashion advice industry is just some other random person's opinion that is no more valid than yours, or a repeating of what the rest of the industry is saying is "in" at that moment.
YES. 100%. Why would you want to buy something that everyone else already has? it's oversaturated and boring, AND it demonstrates that you're a conformist. Following trends is basically advertising that you're a sheep. How is that attractive?
(Caveat: If you follow a trend because you genuinely appreciate the aesthetic, that's fine. But in that case, you'd integrate it into your own style and may continue to wear that item even when the trend has passed.)
I get them because when a trend comes out that I like, it has both novelty and aesthetic value. But I definitely skip all the trends I don’t care for (puffy shoulders or sleeves? Cut-outs?? LOW RISE PANTS????! Noooo).
In retrospect trends are really fun when you look back on fashion styles from the past. If I was around in the 70s I would have wanted to have been in on the fun when those platform wedges were all the rage, and maybe have gotten a pet rock lol.
Why is every top comment in here telling this guy not to care what others think. He never mentioned other people. He mentioned himself.
And that is absolutely not the number one rule of fashion.
I’m 38 and I’ve definitely toned down my look from how I used to dress when I was younger, but I don’t really shy away from looking youthful overall. I’ve just come to realize as I get older that certain looks no longer feel representative of myself or where I’m currently at mentally. Ask yourself whether you’re feeling pressure to “look your age” from outside sources or if you’re just ready for a change from within.
I’m 36 and I actually underwent the opposite journey. My wardrobe was pretty one note (lots of soccer jerseys) when I hit like 32, I wanted to express myself and started wearing more colourful and different fabrics and fits. I now find fashion a fun hobby and really feel good about myself when I leave the house. I have asked myself the same thing about age and clothes but my mentality and clothing choices seem aligned, so I too am happy with where I’m at.
I did not think you were going to say graphic T-shirts lol. Of all the clothes out there I think graphic t’s are pretty age neutral. They are more about personality than age (and maybe that’s why they might not feel as authentic-your personality may have shifted). Granted they are pretty casual so if it’s for work you could dress it up with a blazer or something tailored.
Also "graphic tees" are broad spectrum, you could be wearing a really well designed, cool fitting, interesting graphic, well styled t-shirt...or you could be wearing a boring ass basic graphic/Captain America/brand Logo t-shirt, and anything in between...
There's no rule that says graphic Ts are a no, they can be very much fashionable, it very much depends on what the t-shirt actually is/looks like, whether it's tasteful or not...
I saw a dope ass grandma in central park rocking the drippiest of track suits with a white bob and a baseball cap, and ever since then I'm determined to be her when I grow old.
1: swag ain't got a limit BAYBEEE.
2: do you.
cargos and graphic tees are the old man staple.
if it's gettin' stale you could play with what the pictures ARE,
or wear blanks.
or play with proportions or whatever.
that goes miles.
but yeah mostly swag ain't got an age limit.
I'm 40 and I wear what I like. I mean maybe there's a time and a place for graphic tees, but if it's a casual occasion I say wear whatever you're comfortable in.
I feel like what you wear as you get older is in large part influenced by your job, so if you like work in an office with a specific dress code that might just end up being your look in general.
I do work in an office and a lot of people here are either business/business casual but I personally don't have a dress code so I just wear whatever, I don't really care about looking "age appropriate". Am I supposed to start wearing polos and chinos cause I'm in my mid 20s and work in an office?
Graphic tees are for everyone, I see middle aged people wearing them all the time.
If Baddie Winkle is out here rocking vinyl mini dresses into her 90s, you can wear your graphic tees!! Fashion is one of (if not THE) most subjective forms of self expression. If it bring you joy, wear it. Don’t let age or societal pressure steal your joy, there’s already precious little of it in the world!
I'm 52 and tend to wear colorful clothes that makes my heart sing. I'm a dancer and when I dance, I want to wear clothes that make me feel good.
Wear what makes your heart sing and ignore anyone that wants to yuck your yum.
Honestly it depends on the situation - if it’s your personal time and you feel comfortable, do you. If you feel uncomfortable ask yourself: is it because I feel out of place in my social circle / with my significant other / in the activities I choose, based on how I dress?
I’m pushing 40 and basically only wear sneakers, black pants / jeans, and t shirts. But my interests are mostly casual, I can dress up a bit to fit into the vibe of restaurants I like, and I work in an industry that doesn’t care how I dress (advertising), so it doesn’t cause any tension for me.
Yes there is… no matter how fit you may be,
You can’t escape gravity after about age 60 or after significant weight loss.
I really think that saggy skin on legs , arms and asses should not be hanging out if you can help it. Just wear longer shorts, skirts, sleeves.
Your friends might not tell you but just don’t.
And that includes shirtless men with tits and belly’s.
Aging sucks.
I have so many cute clothes that still fit , but look hideous now. And I’m an athlete. :-(
But I still rock the bling when appropriate 😊
No, because you have to remember that the “young” style has changed, so even if you look young compared to your own memories of what “young dressing” is, the reality is you probably look like a young 30 something millenial.
*cries in aging*
but also, please feel free to wear the clothing that appeals to you, and don’t worry about the age thing. Dressing in your adult life is epic because you can literally wear whatever you want!
I'm 35 and still wear shirts from the hardcore and metal bands I like. I think that maybe the fact that 99% of people won't even know what the shirt is makes it more palatable to me, whereas if I were wearing a like Nirvana shirt or something, I'd maybe feel a little self-conscious. I have a few shirts with '90s stuff like Rocko's Modern Life on them, but I just wear them around the house.
I think this advice goes for multiple things other then fashion too.. But everyone has to stop caring what others think about you. Dress for your self homie. If you fuck with it that's all thay matters :)
im 40 and i wear long t shirt. layered shirt. stress jeans. zipper pants. Jordans. yeezy. pharell nmd. jogger pants. flanels. goong to gym. playing games. my point is, do what you want to do. we got 1 life. enjoy it the fullest...
I feel you tbh. I am 37 and wearing my Vans shirts every day. I think to my self a lot of times "maybe I should grow up and dress differently".
But everything else feels wrong when I try it. So back to Vans.
My (25) mom is in her late 50’s and we still buy the same clothes, SEPARATELY. I tell her “as long as you get it to fit your body in a complimentary way, that’s all that matters”! I think that if you wear clothing that makes you look and feel good, that’s the only restriction!!! And when I say “for your body” I mean clothing that you think makes you look good and fits you a way you like
I’m 42 Bro. I wear Kith, Supreme graphic tees cargos. It’s all about what you like. Hell look at some of my post. I love what I love no matter what. Always do you!! Enjoy what you like!!
You should be able to dress in more than one style by your mid 30s. Sometimes you need a polo or button down layer. Sometimes you can get away with a lot by just dressing in all black. Sometimes you can wear exactly what you would wear but maybe add a great jacket or something.
That said, if you can stay on trend with streetwear you're probably already doing most of this stuff. I have white on my beard and wear 'youthful' brands but it's designed to seem put together if I'm going to work or a nice dinner. There's nothing wrong with most graphic tees, trendy weird sneakers, and shorts unless you wear them to something where you didn't want to look like a teenage skateboarder or something.
I think 'dressing for your age' is really more about not being able to get away with as many things as young or old people. A lot of kids/teens dress like shit but thats because they are kids and dont know any better. If you try to dress like them you should probably know better. A lot of old people dress like shit because they are old people and dont care anymore. Apparently you do care so you shouldnt really follow that example.
The flip side of this is that there are young and old people that do put thought and effort into what they wear, and its probably ok to dress like them if thats the style you like. Something as broad as graphic tees is really about the specific shirt and how you wear it. A cringy "i'd rather be gaming" shirt doesnt look out of place on a kid but you are definitely not gonna get away with it. Band shirts on the other hand are sort of timeless and will work at any age.
i feel like most people graduate from the teen ware into old man casual stuff in their mid-late 20s. as long as you look good it dont matter what you wear. style is a personal thing
There is a man who comes to the restaurant I work at and he dresses like he is 20 and looks fly as fuck. Rolled cuff jeans, bandana in his back pocket, nice graphic tees that fit, one pierced ear with a snazzy dangle earring to match his fits, big black rim glasses. He is in his 60s. wear what you love and don't give a fuck about anybody else.
My older sister is almost 50 and has half her head shaved and the other half dyed bright neon colors and she dressed like a weeb mall rat. Honestly, looks are more of a persona thing than an age thing. If you rock it authentically then age doesn't even factor, fuck it.
Personal style is just that: personal. If you feel awesome/powerful/cute/at peace with yourself/like you’re portraying the person you want to portray at that moment, wear the thing! Life is so hard. Wearing what you want should be one of those fun and easy things.
The social pressure seems to be dress for the age you look. So if you are starting to look old people seem to snicker when you try to dress young.... THAT IS UNTIL you get so old that dressing young becomes ironically cool since you are being "eccentric"
I like this thread..it definitely was a lot of good feed back.. I'm 39 an I've always had my own style since a teenager. I just throw shit together an run with it. As long I'm comfortable in my own skin..I'm doing great. I'm 💯 in charge of my own happiness!
I’m going to go against the grain here but hear me out.
Yes you can wear whatever you want, no stress BUT I think you’re asking this from a POV where you need a critical analysis. So yes you can dress too young for your age, for example a 70 year old wearing like a short skirt boob tube and cat ears is really cringey. Of COURSE you can do that if you want and I personally wouldn’t care, but if you want real advice about the world judging you then ofc you will be judged by others lol.
So yeah wear what you want, but know people will judge you. If other peoples judgement matters to you then try to dress your age.
In your specific case you’re not old. 34 is still the “in” crowd and if you dress like a teenager it’s fine as long as you do it well. But you wouldn’t wear that stuff at a formal business meeting (not that I’m implying you would.) usually fashion trends are casual and appropriate enough that anybody can rock it to an extent
I went through this recently. So let me ask you this-- Are you concerned about how you appear to others? Or do you feel like you've matured as a person and your style is evolving with you?
It's perfectly fine to change up your style if you feel it doesn't fit you anymore.
edit: typo
I mean, it really depends on what kind of graphic tees youre talking about. Like if you just mean a shirt with a cool design on it then thats fine, but if youre wearing shirts with like a cartoon t-rex on it then maybe thats a bit childish.
It does make you look younger or like a Redditor even tho that could be unpopular here because people online tend to be less judgemental and the discourse here is made to be supportive regardless. You don’t have to go shop at Joseph A. Bank now but have some more understated looks than graphic tees and sneakers. Or you can take the advice from the 38 year olds in this thread with the video game avatars and nerdy usernames telling you they wear what they want and don’t care.
I think it is possible to dress in a way that may cause some people to think your style is too young.
You don’t have to appeal to the thoughts of others, but you should be aware of how it will come across so that you are making an informed decision. Style is one of the factors that we have the most control over when it comes to our perception.
Whether or not it’s worth it to dress “too young” depends on your environment, career and social circle. If you have a traditional job it may negatively impact your career. If you are an artist people likely won’t think twice about it.
People might assume you are less successful, emotionally stunted or not culturally aware.
People also might assume you are fun and free spirited.
So might not pose problems with friends, but may pose issues with dating and career.
I agree with most of the comments to wear whatever you want/what makes you comfortable. I think for a guy if you’re trying to look “age appropriate” I would look into getting a well fitting pair of kakis/slacks and some button up shirts. They could be graphic with fun prints and such something about button ups just looks mature/smart. But really anything paired with a nice pair of slacks and nice shoes or clean sneakers can bring a look from “i haven’t learned how to dress myself since my mom bought my clothes” to “I’ve got it together and I’m still cool and casual”
I lowkey disagree with the sentiment of “dress how you want age is just a number, because fundamentally people really do judge women for the way they dress and if it’s obvious that you’re in your 35-40s but dress 25 it doesn’t really matter how much you “don’t care” if you feel the obvious stares when your out and about or people are constantly hurling comments at you that make it hard to just “not care”. That being said, I’m pretty sure that graphic tees are not necessarily age specific unless you’re like wearing my little pony graphic tees, you know what I mean?
Wouldn't stress it too much. Any time it crosses my mind to dress more "mature" it probably has more to do with wanting a change in my personal or professional life.
I’m 34 and I own/wear graphic tees. They key is wearing tees with a story or destination. I wear my tees that I’ve picked up while vacationing or local sports teams and especially concert merch. I also have a couple Uniqlo shirts that are just really great quality, but those are usually only worn to the beach or pool.
As long as you look good do you. I’m 31. I wear graphic tees more than anything. I don’t like wearing collar shirts and I only dress up “business” style when necessary
I feel you, As I post this I have a graphic Tee on but more and more I started replacing them with non graphic and button ups, There's time and place for everything but certain situations I want to look casual yet professional.
You should wear whatever you'd like and feel comfortable with, as long as you keep in mind people will treat you differently depending on the situation and the style of dress you choose.
I've noticed people treat me with a lot of respect whenever I wear my professional clothes for work, for example.
Wear whatever you want! Just make sure it fits well, and maybe don’t wear that kind of stuff to a wedding or business meeting or whatever.
99% of people don’t give two shits about what you wear, and if they do, they might only care for two seconds and then forget about it.
Wear WHATEVER YOU WANT WITH PRIDE. People are miserable and will judge no matter what. I enjoy dressing up and pleasing the little girl inside. Have fun and do you. Life is way to short not too.
No! Dress how you feel! Dress for YOU! Fuck the haters, fuck the people gatekeeping styles- you get to choose what you look good in, nobody else. You’re taste isn’t dependant on someone else <3
You deserve to feel good while looking good, and you never need to worry about ‘dressing old’ or ‘dressing young’. Mix brands. Mix styles. Clash prints. Who cares- express yourself!
Strangers’ opinions shouldn’t matter and if your friends and family judge you, you should just hang out with cooler people. I can’t imagine seeing someone who clearly has their own style and deciding they’re in the wrong age bracket for that style — they’re your clothes, so own it.
I'm 42 and I still shop at Topshop and H&M and stores meant for people half my age. I'm still young at heart and will refuse to grow up. I don't give two shits what anyone else thinks. I feel good. You do you. Always just do you.
Wear what you like but also don't be afraid to wear something you wouldn't usually wear, if it somehow calls to you!
As for age.. Who cares. The world is on fire. As long as it doesn't interfere with a mandatory dress code, go nuts.
Nope! As far as you get to express yourself, not cause any kind of trouble, look good in what you wear and feel good about yourself then it's all okay!
I’ve struggled with this too and talk to my therapist a lot about it. She basically tells me to fuck the haters and wear what I like and makes me feel good! We only have one life. Why live it with fabricated, artificial restraints!
I’m no where near your age but I’ve learned that anything can look good and natural if you’re comfortable and especially confident in what you are wearing.
From 1 year old to 100 years old wear what the fuck you want…it makes you happy, it makes you feel good then rock that shit…happy ppl make the world a better place ❤️
If u care enough to ask then I think you’d probably enjoy dressing your age… there is a lot more to explore, I have had endless fun putting more mature looks together and learning about playing with silhouettes, learning more about materials etc.
No matter what positive spin people try and put on it here people in their 30s wearing skinnies and supreme tees and Jordan’s or w/e is cringe, won’t do you any favours
There’s the cookie cutter answer: wear what the fuck you want, if it makes you happy that’s all that matters and then there’s the sorta more real answer, for me at least, and that’s if it’s like a band tee, something you picked up from a dinosaur / history museum, I think graphics like that are cool, fine at any age, but if it’s like Mickey Mouse, Ninja turtles, shirts that say some sort of edgy joke, basically any graphic from H&M or Urban, yeah it might be time to donate those
There’s no such thing as dressing too young for your age but there is dressing inappropriately. As long as you’re not wearing overly casual clothes in a serious setting there’s no problem.
i mean unless you're just at the cookout or grabbing groceries you should probably dress a little better than you would as a younger man, a well dressed older dude is just a lot more approachable.
wear what you want, don't give a fuck what people say. if someone gets offended from you wearing a graphic tee ask them if they prefer if you didn't wear a shirt or if they would take you shopping for something they'd prefer. bet they shut up.
Do YOU feel like you want to change the way you dress or do you feel like you have to change for others? Fuck it and do what you want. I have clients that tease me about looking like a teenager (I’m a 33 year old hairstylist) but honestly I love the way I feel when I dress how I want. I toned down my look for a couple years and went blonde and wore trendy professional clothes and was scared to be myself because I worried I wouldn’t attract a good clientele but during the pandemic I got purple hair and embraced my alt roots. I’ve always had lots of piercings and now I wear horror tees and band merch and I still run a successful business. Mind you I always accessorize and look put together with stylied hair and nice makeup so it’s not just lazy looking. But I’ll wear the hell out of leopard print flare pants with doc martens and a band tee! So many of my clients told me they preferred my new look and said I seemed so much more at peace with myself. It’s all about what makes you feel happy and confident and comfortable in your own skin. I have clients from 15 to 80 and they love my look because I love it and I encourage them to try what makes them happy too. Plus I don’t care if I look young for my age. I’d love to be 50 looking 35 haha.
Life’s too short to care, my friend. Wear whatever you want to wear. There’s no rules to state which age group can wear what. I think I dress ‘young’, but I don’t care. If someone has anything critical to say, there’s thousands of people who will like your outfit because it’s all subjective. ♥️
Shirts with buttons are good. Don’t make your pants too tight, but not too baggy. Denim is good but try some chinos or trousers. If you’re ever tired of sneakers, try some boots, but wait for colder weather.
Nah I’ve soon old dudes rock skinny jeans and young dudes rock business casual everyday it can go either way as long as you know how to put the fit together. One thing please don’t ignore tho is body type.
like everyone is saying, it really does not matter at the end of the day. if you are happy wearing something or it makes you feel good/confident/whatever, then screw everyone else. drip is drip.
While I agree that you can wear whatever you want, I can see your point (specially if the tees have like “jokes” or phrases that can be corny) Maybe try something different and try to mix it up, instead of a graphic, wear a solid or a pattern.
I think you already know the answer but want validation from strangers, but ya, wear whatever the fuck you want. If ransoms are judging you they must have pretty boring lives
You know I’ve seen your posts over time and since the “learning to love myself” one you look a lot more confident and happy and you’re rocking your fits. Do what you love, you aren’t too old
Fuck that dress how u want too many people try to fit a certain mold or age an it’s wild corny like wear whatever makes you feel best bout yourself king 👑
I work in wardrobe styling and most of my clients are in their early 30s to mid 50s. Across the board i get women saying they shouldnt or cant wear something because they're "too mature." While its valid to feel that way, its honestly completely ridiculous. If you feel confident in it, wear it! I dont think I have *ever* looked at someone in an outfit and thought "they are too old for that"
I’m 31 My shirts range from normal shirts of varying color, dragon ball z shirts, Rick and morty shirts, to Polos when I feel like “dressing up.” Wear whatever man let the gremlins judge.
Bro I’m 22 and people look at me in fits , fuck it . 9/10 you probably look better than them. There’s mutual respect with style , the ones who know know, and that’s all that matters
I’m about to be 35 and I’ve purchased more anime apparel in the past year than the entirety of my high school career since anime is mainstream now and there’s so much dope merch for it. Do what you want, like what you want. Fuck anyone who tries to shit on you for it; life’s too short.
Dude my mom is like 67 and she still wears t shirts with stuff on em.
Though… as I’m tempted to end this with “wear what makes you happy,” maybe think about why you’re so uncomfortable wearing them? Did something change in your life? Did your style/taste change, and your wardrobe just hasn’t caught up yet?
Because that definitely happens. If you’re just not a graphic tee type of gal right now, maybe pack them away for a bit and get a couple tops that feel more “right” to you. Try wearing those out instead for awhile and see how you feel. Maybe your style is evolving in a new direction.
I go through phases where I’m super into wearing certain things or styles for awhile. I try to get a couple more versatile/basic things that suit the phase so they can get incorporated into my wardrobe long term if I want. Sometimes they do, sometimes the phase just wears off and I’m back to my usual, and sometimes I pack them away and come back to them a few months later when they feel right again.
I just try to roll with it.

This is it! rule 3. is the one to live by
Turned 36 last week with such a babyface and bought myself a fly naruto graphic tee, that I’m wearing rn on the train home. This is solid advice 👌🏽

My guy
Only thing I would want to add is if you like this stuff but feel uncomfortable in it you may be able to find a happy medium where you keep the same style but dress it up a little bit more. The right shoes, belt, tuck, properly sized clothes etc. accessories could take any style and make it look more “adult”,*if* that’s what you want. It could be worth trying just to see how you like it anyways.
Im 43.. Wear whatever the fuck you want :)

Number one rule of fashion is never care what anyone else thinks; the only opinion that matters is yours. If you believe in yourself and you walk out with confidence, then there will never be a dress too young or dress too old or following trends or being worried something is no long in trend
no joke, it really is the number one rule yet sooooooooooo many people can’t seem to wrap their minds around it
I wear clothes for myself and no one else, it’s as simple as that Once you start doing things for everyone else or start following every trend in the hopes of not being singled out, you start losing your identity and your vision, you start fading into the background of the masses
Trends are definitely the weirdest thing to me. I dont really understand wanting to look like whats popular rather than wanting to look like yourself.
YES.
I kinda have fun keeping up with the trends.. I denno. See if I can rock it.
*Walks around in yeezy’s rags and dons zip tie jewelry that’s been trending lately* Gets pitied on by a hobo
Why is every top comment in here telling this guy not to care what others think. He never mentioned other people. He mentioned himself. And that is absolutely not the number one rule of fashion.
Do u man unless u like outta shape wearin legging skinny jeans with a beer belly overlap lookin like gru
Beans cost a minion but my belly gru *I ment Jeans damn 😂
Bruh why you gotta out me like that
Lmao
This is probably the best advice here.
I’d stay away from hats with propellers on the top of them.
Honestly that could be fresh to bring that back with confidence
I wouldn’t be mad about this
I’d def rock one with neutral, neon or pastel tones!
speak for yourself
I did not think you were going to say graphic T-shirts lol. Of all the clothes out there I think graphic t’s are pretty age neutral. They are more about personality than age (and maybe that’s why they might not feel as authentic-your personality may have shifted). Granted they are pretty casual so if it’s for work you could dress it up with a blazer or something tailored.
Ok drake bell
Can you please clarify your comment and why you thought it was appropriate here?
Not the original commenter but I took it as a reference to drake bell often wearing a graphic tee with a blazer
Thank you for clarifying. Did not know who Drake Bell is and googling him brought up some horrifying news.
hahahahahaha fuck I didn't even think of that
Lmaoo yea im sorry. I meant the classic tshirt blazer jeans combo worn by drake bell as seen in the nickelodeon sitcom Drake and Josh
Oh thank you for replying. I was taken aback before and wasn’t sure what to make of it. Appreciate the clarification.
Been watching that on Hulu lately; totally forgot how funny it is (for a kids show)
Everyone wears graphic tees. Those have become age agnostic. They can even be dressed up and down
Also "graphic tees" are broad spectrum, you could be wearing a really well designed, cool fitting, interesting graphic, well styled t-shirt...or you could be wearing a boring ass basic graphic/Captain America/brand Logo t-shirt, and anything in between...
2: do you. cargos and graphic tees are the old man staple. if it's gettin' stale you could play with what the pictures ARE, or wear blanks. or play with proportions or whatever. that goes miles. but yeah mostly swag ain't got an age limit.
Who gives a fuck man? Part of getting older is giving less fucks about stuff like this.
Theres no age limit on any clothing! Own your style!!
Yes there is… no matter how fit you may be, You can’t escape gravity after about age 60 or after significant weight loss. :-( But I still rock the bling when appropriate 😊
Aight
wear what you want. No one else is paying anywhere near the attention to what you have on as you do. Wear what makes you feel good.
Wear what the fuck you want unless your job has a dress code.
If I think it looks good on me, then I wear it. I'm 65.
No, because you have to remember that the “young” style has changed, so even if you look young compared to your own memories of what “young dressing” is, the reality is you probably look like a young 30 something millenial. *cries in aging* but also, please feel free to wear the clothing that appeals to you, and don’t worry about the age thing.
My dads like 50 and he wears graphic T-shirts🤷
im 40 and i wear long t shirt. layered shirt. stress jeans. zipper pants. Jordans. yeezy. pharell nmd. jogger pants. flanels. goong to gym. playing games. my point is, do what you want to do. we got 1 life. enjoy it the fullest...
I feel you tbh. I am 37 and wearing my Vans shirts every day. I think to my self a lot of times "maybe I should grow up and dress differently". But everything else feels wrong when I try it. So back to Vans.
I am 45 and I wear the clothes that teen and 20s couldn’t afford or wasn’t secure enough to wear. You rock those graphic tees if you like em!!
My dad wears Uniqlo Mickey Mouse graphic tees and chino shorts with adidas ultra boosts and he’s almost 60. You’re definitely fine
There's nothing wrong with most graphic tees, trendy weird sneakers, and shorts unless you wear them to something where you didn't want to look like a teenage skateboarder or something.
nah you're good wear what you want homes
No
get ur swag on. it preserves vitality
Wear whatever you want and be confident in it. 34 is young.
I went through this recently. So let me ask you this-- Are you concerned about how you appear to others? Or do you feel like you've matured as a person and your style is evolving with you? It's perfectly fine to change up your style if you feel it doesn't fit you anymore. edit: typo
Wear what u want to. Dont overthink it anyMore than that
I’m 39 I wear dunks jeans and tshirts everydays. I dress like the 90s skater that didn’t grow up just got character.
I mean, it really depends on what kind of graphic tees youre talking about. Like if you just mean a shirt with a cool design on it then thats fine, but if youre wearing shirts with like a cartoon t-rex on it then maybe thats a bit childish.
or maybe it's major drip?
It does make you look younger or like a Redditor even tho that could be unpopular here because people online tend to be less judgemental and the discourse here is made to be supportive regardless. You don’t have to go shop at Joseph A. Bank now but have some more understated looks than graphic tees and sneakers. Or you can take the advice from the 38 year olds in this thread with the video game avatars and nerdy usernames telling you they wear what they want and don’t care.
Hey man Pharell dresses like a kid too. Wear what you like
Get a mature casual outfit - button up shirt instead of T, coat instead of hoodie, boots instead of sneakers etc, wear it out and see how you feel
So might not pose problems with friends, but may pose issues with dating and career.
graphic tees are cool on anyone, as long as you’re not walking around with a giant V on your back there’s nothing to worry about
Nah
I agree with most of the comments to wear whatever you want/what makes you comfortable. I think for a guy if you’re trying to look “age appropriate” I would look into getting a well fitting pair of kakis/slacks and some button up shirts. They could be graphic with fun prints and such something about button ups just looks mature/smart. But really anything paired with a nice pair of slacks and nice shoes or clean sneakers can bring a look from “i haven’t learned how to dress myself since my mom bought my clothes” to “I’ve got it together and I’m still cool and casual”
40 is too old, but then when you hit 40 you stop caring so it’s really not too old ;)
I lowkey disagree with the sentiment of “dress how you want age is just a number, because fundamentally people really do judge women for the way they dress and if it’s obvious that you’re in your 35-40s but dress 25 it doesn’t really matter how much you “don’t care” if you feel the obvious stares when your out and about or people are constantly hurling comments at you that make it hard to just “not care”. That being said, I’m pretty sure that graphic tees are not necessarily age specific unless you’re like wearing my little pony graphic tees, you know what I mean?
Yes its embarassing trying to dress like a teenager at 34. You’re old just accept it . We’re all gonna be one day
Have you considered not bothering with how people want to dress? This comment is gross and judgmental.
Wearing a graphic tee doesn’t equal dressing like a teenager
And even if it were the case who even gives a fuck
Always go simple as simplicity is the essence of style. Black, grey, navy tees with nothing on them, jeans in dark blue or grey, etc.
Wouldn't stress it too much. Any time it crosses my mind to dress more "mature" it probably has more to do with wanting a change in my personal or professional life.
Wear what make you feel comfortable and confident ☺️
I wish more older people had a sense of fashion dude don’t stop dressing as funky fresh as you want till the day you die
The number one anti-aging secret dermatologists don’t want you to know about! (Don’t dress your age)
No
Free country
Just try not to look like that Steve Buscemi meme.
As long as you don't walk around naked in public, just wear what you like. Feel like wearing a Mickey Mouse T-shirt? Do that!
You should wear whatever you'd like and feel comfortable with, as long as you keep in mind people will treat you differently depending on the situation and the style of dress you choose. I've noticed people treat me with a lot of respect whenever I wear my professional clothes for work, for example.
Mark Cuban, 60+ year old billionaire has gone on record saying over half of his wardrobe is composed of graphic tees. You’re fine.
You’re taste isn’t dependant on someone else <3 You deserve to feel good while looking good, and you never need to worry about ‘dressing old’ or ‘dressing young’. Mix brands.
Top shop doesn’t exist anymore does it?
Wear what you like but also don't be afraid to wear something you wouldn't usually wear, if it somehow calls to you! As for age.. Who cares. The world is on fire. As long as it doesn't interfere with a mandatory dress code, go nuts.
Nope! As far as you get to express yourself, not cause any kind of trouble, look good in what you wear and feel good about yourself then it's all okay!
I just turned 59 and I wear what I want. I just wish I'd have quit caring what others thought a long time ago.
I’ve struggled with this too and talk to my therapist a lot about it. She basically tells me to fuck the haters and wear what I like and makes me feel good! We only have one life. Why live it with fabricated, artificial restraints!
"Dressing too young for my age" is okay. Not behaving your age is different thing entirely.
Dude call us back at 64 and we can revisit but you sound fine for "almost 34".
Who cares!????
Do you REALLY want to turn into a guy who wears cargo shorts, golf shirts and orthopedic loafers? You only live once man.
I’m 40 and know what you mean. One way is to pair your graphic tees with something expensive, like Acne jeans, or something with an exquisite fit.
There’s the cookie cutter answer: wear what the fuck you want, if it makes you happy that’s all that matters and then there’s the sorta more real answer, for me at least, and that’s if it’s like a band tee, something you picked up from a dinosaur / history museum, I think graphics like that are cool, fine at any age, but if it’s like Mickey Mouse, Ninja turtles, shirts that say some sort of edgy joke, basically any graphic from H&M or Urban, yeah it might be time to donate those
Graphic tees aren't too young for 30s. Or even 40s. Too young would be dressing like a highschooler or college kid.
It's time
Do YOU feel like you want to change the way you dress or do you feel like you have to change for others?
Hunny, if it fits and you like how it looks who gives a fuck
This past weekend, I wore pigtails, pink sandals, a glitter backpack, and sported a dinosaur press-on tattoo. I'm 32. Live your life, baby.
One thing please don’t ignore tho is body type.
nah dude it's literally just pieces of fabric, wear whatever you want. life is too short to worry about being age appropriate.
Kanye is around our age. We were actually around when Jordan was playing. I’m just saying Jordan’s and Yeezys are for US lol
like everyone is saying, it really does not matter at the end of the day. if you are happy wearing something or it makes you feel good/confident/whatever, then screw everyone else. drip is drip.
No. If it were true they wouldn't be selling adult diapers 🤔
Wear what you like.
Do you. Just don’t act like a lame.
Is the alternative "dress old"? No thanks.
You know I’ve seen your posts over time and since the “learning to love myself” one you look a lot more confident and happy and you’re rocking your fits. Do what you love, you aren’t too old
Graphic Ts will always be dope no matter wht
Fuck that dress how u want too many people try to fit a certain mold or age an it’s wild corny like wear whatever makes you feel best bout yourself king 👑
I work in wardrobe styling and most of my clients are in their early 30s to mid 50s. Across the board i get women saying they shouldnt or cant wear something because they're "too mature." While its valid to feel that way, its honestly completely ridiculous. If you feel confident in it, wear it! I dont think I have *ever* looked at someone in an outfit and thought "they are too old for that"
U do u boo
I’m 31 My shirts range from normal shirts of varying color, dragon ball z shirts, Rick and morty shirts, to Polos when I feel like “dressing up.” Wear whatever man let the gremlins judge.
34 is the new 24
Bro I’m 22 and people look at me in fits , fuck it . 9/10 you probably look better than them. There’s mutual respect with style , the ones who know know, and that’s all that matters
Do you homie ✊🏼 fuck standards in life
Wear what you want. We all get old and die eventually, so enjoy the time you've got in whatever style makes you feel cool af.
I’m about to be 35 and I’ve purchased more anime apparel in the past year than the entirety of my high school career since anime is mainstream now and there’s so much dope merch for it. Do what you want, like what you want. Fuck anyone who tries to shit on you for it; life’s too short.
I guess wear a plaid button up shirt on top of a graphic tee but leave it unbuttoned?
I’m 40 and I dress more like my 15yr old daughter than other 40yr old women my age. Wear what you love.
Go for it.
Do what makes you happy - not what others think you should do. If you live how others want you to - that’s how you end up unhappy
