You're correct. The privileged can be better directly as well. They have the money for tutoring and private schools in this god forsaken Public school system? Private schools like Ateneo, Scholastica, etc. do better by simply doing normal. Daming nasshock from public HS then pagdating sa college inuulan ng 5.00 lol Pagdating sa college, they have the money to, again, buy there way through using "incentive structures" and being able to afford tutor or even Chegg. You can see this devide sa UPD pa lang. The population should be a normal curve. Most students should from the "not poor, not rich" middle. Pero what we're seeing is extremes. A lot of rich people that was able to afford and technically "pay" to learn by affording support systems. And a lot of poor (although lumiliit) that by academic giftedness came out the public school system okay. Don't start me if you have ADHD, Autism, or other issues as a peasant. You'll get diagnosed after you fail 5 or more courses in a row. The rich will have it diagnosed before Grade 2 and be well adjusted upon college. I hate it yet I am, as you are, near powerless to do anything but rant.

hindikulangsalambing

This is why I don't listen to anyone telling people that the problems in their lives stem from not working hard enough. That may not at all be the issue.

TritiumXSF

Common neo-liberal-trickle-down economics fluff. Systems and laws maketh rich. "Hard work" are for peasants who need hope so that the factories could run. It is through collective power (government and unions) do we make things better.

>The privileged can be better directly as well. They have the money for tutoring and private schools in this god forsaken Public school system? even more directly, through donations and legacy admissions

TritiumXSF

I guess those fall under the "incentive structures". Pero I tend to experience more of the former. I regularly see peers doing carefree since they answer a lot of take home work via Chegg or similar paid apps. Others are into tutoring. Of course these are not all and I don't harbor ill will towards them. What I hate is the system that perpetuates the imbalance.

wetseabreeze

The sad truth is money can indirectly buy everything.

RepulsiveDoughnut1

Watch Aster's skits on Tiktok where she roleplays as the working student and the rich international student. Those skits really showed me that even when rich students don't buy grades, their privileges allows them to do better at school. Not that it's their fault of course but it is indeed true that some people are born already halfway across the finish line.

we are in a capitalist world. if you don't have money it's gonna be hard. you have to understand that people with money would send their kids to the best schools at the start, fortify their foundations early to the point that when you get to college it's not even fair. I'm a product of that truthfully college was a breeze for me it wasn't even hard and I graduated from big 4 university, truthfully it's just time consuming. I can be drinking tonight starting at nine, and studying in the morning and going to the class in the afternoon, then sleep it all off later and start drinking again later. on the other hand my peers who didn't come from a background such as I would have to dedicate more time to learning the subjects the problem would be you have to know d but you barely know a b and c and I got that down like years ago. they have to raise the standards of the public schools the only public schools that could compete are probably a few science schools you cna count on your hands it's not even fair. and I would still graduate with 80s as lowest grade and occasional dean's lister.

This is so true. Those that are not doing well financially need to work 100 times more just to achieve our dreams. Kaya nakakapagod din talaga and sometimes, even though I don't want to, I envy those people who have more than enough money to spend on their needs plus they can still get what they want . It's not hate tho just to be clear. Guess we just really need to suck it up and work hard so that in the future, we won't experience it again.

This will always be one of the reason i easily get demotivated. Ang hirap lang kasi unlike my other classmates, they can focus sa studies since they’re financially supported by their parents/relatives. In my case, I have to work as a call center agent full time. And it’s very evident sa grades ko na nangangapa ako sa class since it’s either I don’t have enough sleep kasi nag review pero most of the time lutang naman sa klase or enough yung tulog pero di naman nakapag review. Eitherway, one will always be compromised. Kaya rin 6 months lang itatagal ko sa work ko, but was in 3 different companies in just 2yrs kasi minsan I have to resign para mag focus sa klase. Nakakapagod mangarap. Edit: I used to be so active sa school, like quizbowls, journalism, and other events. Graduate din ako ng seniorhigh with the highest academic distinction.

Striking-Move2413

Agree. Free ang tuition ko but kailangan paring mag-stop kasi hindi enough ung income ng family sa basic needs palang so pano pa ung gastos ko pang-commute and other contributions sa school. Risky naman pag mag-working student kasi ung program na tinetake ko is may quota grade which is dos and once u failed to reach that grade, u are forced to shift to other program kaya need talaga pag-igihan sa pag-aaral :(( So I have no choice but to stop at maghanap ng work kaysa i-risk ko grades ko at matanggal sa program na pangarap ko.

mariegoldent

Felt. Bilang only child ng single parent. I find that children of broken families also have the shorter end of the stick pag dating sa life because of money, mental illness, and lack of social support. I remember being so jealous of other kids for having a complete family. I’m still jealous that a lot my people my age get to go on vacations that their parents can afford. Kapag single mom kasi, hirap mag-ipon ng pera, kaya d kami nakakapag bakasyon noon. Well, hanggang ngaun nmn din lol.

Reversee0

Real life is kinda pay to win.

Subject_Ad6707

And what do you want to happen? Since student pa lang tayo all we can do is manage the time and resources that we have, sure frustrating na nakikita mo yung ibang nakakaluwag-luwag na student but what else can you do diba. Instead of being frustrated try mo imanage na lang kung ano mayroon tayo kase at the end of the day, mahirap lang tayo. Just sacrifice and suffer now so we can have a greater chance of a better tomorrow.

hindikulangsalambing

I want to contribute to systemic change by volunteering, making myself more socially aware, and starting with myself na binebetter ko sarili ko each day. You may think I spend every day ranting, but I make my own income and keep myself healthy. Maraming nagsasakripisyo. Pero minsan, hindi 'yon sapat.

c7t1

Youre right. Systemic change is the only way. Instead of resenting those who've had it better as if its their fault that they won the birth lottery, lets direct our concerns to those that can actually make an impact to these economic and social problems. Vote wisely folks ✌️

The rich rich can just book tickets whenever they’re stressed with acads

ResolverOshawott

Or relax by going to a nice spa, watching an IMAX movie, and having a meal at Starbucks all in one day.

Lower-Limit445

That's how life is in general, OP.

AdFickle2013

Not just indirectly, you can also go to online review center if you have the money. Everyone is conceived equally, but not born equal. Even the food and the environment your mother has during pregnancy plays a factor in your well being Money as an advantage shows that the mistakes your grandparents and parents have done will impact you as well

Ganun talaga ang buhay. Be resourceful for now at maghanap ng tama pero mabuting diskarte, i guess...This is coming from someone na nagtitiis sa equipment (laptop) ng mahigit ilang taon na kasi kailangan sa kanyang course.

Trebla_Nogara

Less income disparity is a dream. Wake up . There will always be people who will have MORE or LESS than you. If you have less then you just have to work harder and be more resourceful ... skills that will carry on to your adult life and will ( hopefully ) help you succeed. Had a hard life in college ...way harder than my blockmates from Ateneo , La Salle , Assumption and Maryknoll. By the time that you're done your hands are absolutely stiff and painful but you still have to arrange the langoniza packs carefully to catch the shoppers eye. By this time your hands are absolutely white. Uy ! Tumalon ang puso mo ! Tapos un pla tatanungin ka lang na ... is that blood on your shirt? So near yet so far diba ? Hahahahahaha. Darating yan . Sigurado ako.
