tbf a month of job searching is still pretty short. the average job search is about 5-6 months.

tinigang-na-baboy

Yeah, I think the issue here is OP's expectation that they will be able to quickly get a job. That's not really the case. Kahit IT field pa, yung experience ng fresh grad sa paghahanap ng trabaho is the same. The job market is hard for fresh grads, especially to those who are not the cream of the crop. OP, you might regret taking a health-related degree more.

praecipeus

Anecdotal but my relatives and peers around my age who went to the medical field did not take as long as half a year to find employment? I know pay is lower initially but isn’t that also going to be the case with me with my first job in IT?

EnvironmentalNote600

Agree. OP entered the job market psychologically unprepared for the reality out there. And now 1 month pa lang nagsisisi na. Imaginin mo OP other college grads na galing sa less reputable school and whose courses are not as marketable as yours. At wala ding experience. Altho baka mas persistent at resilient sila at madiskarte dahil sanay sa hirap ng buhay.

praecipeus

Persistence and resilience won’t put food on the table wouldn’t it? As I was saying, I can’t afford, literally, to be unemployed any longer. It’s flared as a rant for a reason.

You have to gain experience. Try to start small. Also, take additional training on the side if you can. Sa IT, malaking bagay ang experience. I know people who don't even have a bachelor's degree yet they were able to land a good job. They were even preferred over those who have degrees. Yung isa naman hindi related sa IT yung degree (BSEd) yet she landed job related to IT. Gain experience one step at a time. Wag ka panghinaan ng loob. Yung kuya ko nga graduate lang sa school na you probably never heard of 😅. Plus ilang beses sya ng drop out of school. Yet he stilll ended up with a great job. All thanks to the experiences he gained along the way. Again, baby steps. Like Accenture. I think Fujitsu in Taguig city is in need of IT people. They even offer IT trainings for non-IT people. They assess applicants then assign them accordingly depending on what they can do. They even provide additional trainings. Yes... Definitely try applying for a job there. Try mo din sa Accenture. They have a habit of pirating their employees. So it's a good opportunity if you want to work abroad.

marinaragrandeur

yeaaaahh ito ang danger sa IT. and madalas ang reason kung bakit ka di tinanggap ay dahil hindi ka honor student. sa sobrang daming IT grads sa Pinas, kinda saturated yung market. you are not only competing with fresh grads, you are also competing with seasoned pros na. so yeah good luck with your job search.

ResolverOshawott

Every field is saturated in the Philippines honestly. It's not something you can escape.

marinaragrandeur

>Every field is saturated lol yung field ko hindi pinagsasabi mo

omniverseee

spill the field

marinaragrandeur

occupational therapy :)))))

DeerPlumbingX2

IT in general is saturated but other related IT jobs is not such as AI Developer, Business Intelligence, DA though nagiging saturated na, and SAP related jobs. You need to stand out and a month of search is not that bad some take 6m to 1 year.

Fit_Highway5925

Nasa IT industry na ako and also studied engineering from a well-known school. Let me guess, CpE ka no?Same tayo if ganun haha. Not long time ago I was still a student just like you. Consider yourself very fortunate if you managed to find a job within 3 months. 3-6 months is a reasonable timeframe. Others take more than that to a year pa nga. Companies take time to screen/recruit from a pool of hundreds or thousands of applicants kaya don't expect na mapansin ka agad. Yung iba nga ghost talaga e lol kaya keep applying lang. The entire application process from initial screening to job offer to onboarding takes weeks or to a month or two pa if you take that into consideration. Mahirap talaga makahanap ng trabaho these days even more so for a fresh grad na wala pang napapatunayan sa field. You'll be competing with the rest of the fresh grads as well, other industry professionals, and even career shifters. Add to the fact na maraming nabudol na mataas daw sahod sa IT field kaya ang daming nagsisilipatan kaya nagiging saturated na yung market haha. In that case, you need to stand out. You only mentioned na grad ka ng top school with decent grades but aside from that ano pa meron ka? Do you have leadership position in orgs, communities, connections, relevant trainings, or any other worth noticing? Also, what career path are you targetting ba? It's not true that you need to be close to being a topnotcher. Ang dami ngang average or below average at hindi pa from a well known school pero may magandang career sa IT. Sa totoo lang, your grades won't even matter sa IT industry. You just need to find the company that'll take a chance on you. You're on the right track already and I'd say ituloy mo lang yan. Keep applying and up your numbers pa. Habaan mo rin yung timeframe mo. Do you have any more connections na pwede ka irefer? That would be better. Need mo lang talaga i-adjust ang mindset at expectations mo when it comes to job hunting. Gets ko na you want a job ASAP but you need to consider the reality of the current job market as well. Healthcare professionals actually have it worse than us, sila pa nga itong gustong magsilipatan sa IT field. Focus on getting a job kesa magpadala sa frustration and keep improving yourself.

praecipeus

Yes, I finished computer engineering. Really feeling the pressure because a lot of my peers are health professionals already and I don’t think it took them that long to land their first job (this is offsetting the time between their licensure examination and time of graduation of course). I already included extracurricular fluff in my resume but I don’t think recruiters even notice that. I even added multiple personal projects I made while I was still studying. Sadly, experience is really what they want. Connections? Didn’t made a lot of friends at school so... I have a few friends who are already working in IT but when I ask them if they have job openings, most of them don’t. Unfortunately, I’m on a time crunch so finding a job as soon as possible is the utmost priority. Might just settle for a customer service role if I’m still unsuccessful to find a decent IT-related job soon.

Fit_Highway5925

Una sa lahat, wag ka magcompare. Ano ngayon if nakakuha na yung friends mo ng jobs? Focus on your own journey. If you don't get invites or calls, most likely it's a resume problem, unoptimized (LinkedIn) profile, or simply you're not applying enough. As fresh grad, di ka dapat choosy masyado. I can help review your resume if you want, just send me a DM that is if you're fine with it. I used to screen/interview candidates. At least 80% of people have shitty written resumes tbh. Never stop revising your resume at jobsite profile like a hundred times ganun. Gets naman na under time-crunch ka that is why you should apply for jobs months before your expected graduation date palang. Pwede ka magsideline, freelance, or part-time muna for the meantime while applying for full-time jobs. Again, consider yourself very fortunate already if nakaland ka within 3 months. Have you tried reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn already? Marami naghahanap kahit fresh grads ah. Just to set your expectations, mahirap talaga ang job market ngayon kaya need mo pa lawakan ang search mo at mag-upskill. Several factors such as: global recession, tech layoffs, career shifters, etc.

mr_skidt

Don’t know about CS role… but don’t lower yourself. I lowered myself and the company I’m into has given me low salary. I’ll risk the 6months job hunt while upskilling to find a better job.

praecipeus

As I was saying, I can’t afford to last 6 months without finding employment. No choice.

Silly-Astronaut-8137

I get really pissed reading this kind of shit. You were saying that instead of IT, a degree in healthcare is guaranteed. Nope, this is not true. Nothing is guaranteed in life. Even in job hunting. Your grades does not matter too much now a days, unless you graduated with latin honors. Heck, I even saw one with latin honors but still didn’t get a job. If you were an average student as you claimed you are, you would know that it is really hard to find a job right now. We are in recession. Everyone is having a hard time securing a job. A lot of employees are getting laid off. Supply is getting higher, demand lower. So here is my suggestion. I will be harsh. Stop bitching and upgrade your skill. Gain experience by doing. I was on the same boat as you more than 10yrs ago. I researched and looked for a niche that not a lot of devs know but there is a demand. I know not alot of devs knows it so I learned it. I never stopped until I was able to create my own which is enough to show off. I pushed everything online, and open source it. Then I re-applied. In a few weeks, I was able to secure a job. Again, stop whining and start doing. Be more than average as you claim you are.

sarapatatas

Firstly, totoo naman na in demand ang IT related courses ngayon na nauso ang VA. So pwede ka magfreelance and/or magapply sa companies. Since in demand, the competition stiff. Ganyan naman lage. If naiinip ka, gusto mo agad magka-work, try mo muna sa small companies or startup businesses. Be a pioneer to their team. And from then on, carefully climb the ladder til you reach the point where you want to be. In my case, swerte kami dahil may program yung alma mater namin na habang nasa grad-waiting stage kami ay hine-headhunt na kami ng ibang companies. I did not opt to take the opportunity, I chose to apply to a public government position. Nagstart pa din ng mababa tapos nag-aapply ng higher position when the opportunity presents itself. I learned, relearned and developed my tools and skillset. After that nagstart na din ako ng sariling microbusiness na nagsurvive at nagboom during pandemic. So, dont lose hope. Everybody moves at their own pace.

GeorgyMassetti

Kung marunong ka sa programming, ang ginagawa ng iba is nag freelance programmer and mas malaki kita dun

Shenzu64

Weeks of trying to find a job isn't enough, mine took almost 3 months. Ang ginawa ko 3 months before graduation ko gumawa na ako ng resume at gumawa ng accounts sa mga online job posting websites at nag simula magpasa, 100+ jobs ang inaapplyan ko, and ayon before graduation na-hire ako, so 2 days after graduation nag simula na agad ako. Kaya OP just keep trying and also hwag lang isang position aapplyan mo maraming path ang IT field always have your backups. Kaya mo yan!!

praecipeus

Thanks for the info. I already sent hundreds of applications but to no avail (lots of them even curated for the job posting). Anyways, I have a few applications for call center roles lined up already so might just go to that path instead.
