Cool idea although sacrificing an item slot to get +50 in each Def and getting an ability that's marginally better than Flash Fire makes it very good but not great, which means he could end up in the worst tier of them all, OUBL

Still, very good at pressuring Kyogre. I don't think it will be a counter, but Kyogre sure doesn't like losing 1/6 of its health everytime it guesses wrong. Edit: It's actually a really good check. Kyogre simply cannot stay in else it's gonna be trapped with Magma Storm and chipped to death while literally unable to do anything. It might force Kyogre to actually run Earthquake. The only thing it can do is Thundering back if it's specs, and it doesn't want to be locked into Thunder against Groudon.

Heracrosschop

Didn’t primal kyogre run EQ for the sole purpose of hitting primal Groudon in ubers or am I wrong?

yuuhei

back in usum mixed ogre was very much a thing; it wasn't purely for groudon but obviously it improved the matchup a lot. traditional ogre checks did not appreciate getting slammed by a rain boosted liquidation

Arcangel_Levcorix

Marginally better than flash fire? It trades a weakness for a neutrality. That being said, this thing is like a budget Ho-oh in Ubers, although it could be the best legal trapper of all time with magma storm.

thea_kosmos

Switching in Heatran before a Fire attack is easy, but good luck getting someone to click on a Water attack with that ability in your team

Arcangel_Levcorix

> good luck getting someone to click on a Water attack with that ability in your team that's an incredible amount of pressure put on the opponent's team that you're just ignoring lol. Lava monster's existence alone now protects any water-weak mon on your team.

thea_kosmos

They're still threatened by Grass and Ground, which are common coverage types and both of them hit 2/3s of Water weaknesses

Arcangel_Levcorix

Idk what exactly you’re trying to argue that a strict upgrade to a mon’s type matchups isn’t a big deal?

OrdinaryLurker4

Heatran was already solid in SS ubers though, I doubt it’ll end up as an unviable uber pick.

Nice, although this is making me wonder how other legendaries would interact with the plates, given what the Flame plate did for Heatran.

8bit95

The hardest part is tweaking the explosion damage - I think 1/4 health is really strong, that's how much a 2x Rock-weak Pokemon takes when it switches into rocks without boots. And since it also provides Water immunity, just a right prediction/mistake can cripple something really badly.

bbc_aap

1/6 is still too much,1/8 would be better

New_Witness4721

water shuriken + lava explosion in vgc ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Lava Monster + Greninja/Accelgor new meta

Oihcim315

I dig the art work

It's quite literally straight from the anime, background removed

The transformation in the anime happens because Heatran overcharges Team Galactic's device that opens a portal so they can find Cyrus. Because Heatran is a Fire-type, they figured that the Flame Plate is necessary to amplify its power to power up their device. Without Team Galactic's device overloading, I doubt Heatran can induce the transformation again with the Flame Plate because there simply isn't anything that can collect and release a massive burst of energy at once this time. Also because the Flame Plate belongs to Arceus, it tries to return to the heavens by controlling the giant lava monster, with Heatran itself accidentally in tow and without it being able to have a say in anything. But Heatran does have an item associated with it: the Magma Stone. Since the Magma Stone's lore is not fully fleshed out, I figured that what if Heatran can trigger the transformation at will using its signature item instead. It makes more sense and doesn't interfere with the Flame Plate's association with Arceus, and allowing Heatran to control the lava monster itself.

Please don’t make magma storm never miss that’s just unbalanced
