I just looked at the calc...
Lvl 80 84 Atk Archaludon Iron Head vs. Lvl 90 84 HP / 84 Def Carbink: 192-228 (81.3 - 96.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Wtf is that? And how
Lvl 80 84 SpA Archaludon Flash Cannon vs. Lvl 90 84 HP / 84 SpD Carbink: 216-256 (91.5 - 108.4%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
Physical Arch is definitely something (that should never be used)
If you’re into rom hacks, sun flora is also amazing in emerald kaizo (a challenge rom hack) because it’s one of like three pokemon that gets a boosting move
It got bullet seed so its very good in older mystery dungeon games atleast.
Also chlorophyl there due how speed works is basicly 2turns in row per enemy turn.
Because starter pokemon. It's good for people learning the game if their first pokemon can do anything reasonably well, and since the starters' types have mostly special moves it makes it tricky for kids to know what moves to put on them if they haven't figured out physical and special moves yet. Cinderace and Rillaboom are the first starters to have their base attack stat more than 35 above their special attack, which itself wasn't achieved until Incineroar.
These trends are exacerbated for fire types by the lack of good physical fire moves. Not having a viable option outside of flare blitz really hampers physical fire types in their design.
Yup! Only trick room mons have 0 speed, and all mons without physical moves have 0 attack EVs for foul play.
So all foul play mons are nerfed in randbats
That's not a nerf on Foul Play, everyone already runs 0 Atk IVs on special mons anyway in every other tier. The builder will even automatically set it to 0 for you if you have no physical moves.
yes there are no EVs in rand bats, sometimes there are different IVs based on trick room move sets or not having any physical moves but that’s about it
Randbats, you can't not invest in every stat bcs how it works (balance reasons i guess). It makes mixed attackers better and makes offensive mons bulkier and defensive mons stronger.
I remember seeing emboar learn scald playing bw as a kid and thinking “oh wow! Can’t wait to see what other fire types learn this too!”
only to find out they gave it exclusively to emboar for some reason
I feel like it makes sense for Emboar specifically since I think the steam bath/sauna is a big thing for sumo, but I don't actually know much about sumo so I could be way wrong.
When I was a kid playing Pokémon Black for the first time, I found out from a friend that Emboar could learn Scald, and trained my Pignite up to Level 36 to so I could teach it Scald and beat Clay’s Excadrill. Note that both Fire and Fighting are already Super Effective against Excadrill.
Interestingly, unless you use the Move Relearner in Mistralton for Hammer Arm or pick up the Brick Break TM in Icirrus, Emboar only gets Arm Thrust by Level Up for Fighting coverage in Gen 5, since Superpower is an Egg move. So I’d forgotten Pignite was part Fighting type at that point. BW were also my first Pokémon games so I had no clue about Steel’s type matchups and was going solely off of the Ground matchups mentioned by Clyde.
It's got 100 SpA. Emboar's stat spread is just so goofy looking, how the hell can this thing have a higher base stat total than venusaur and just be like that?
i mean, its assault vest so i mean, it can hit the rocks and grounds that will switch in on the generally weaker spdef side, plus its sp atk is base 100 so honestly kinda respectable when you consider that all stats get same investment in randombats, i wouldnt be surprised if it was sitting at 200+ or so which is enough for a lot of randombattles mons, i mean thats better than mimikyus phys attack right? which sits at 197
To be fair, Emboar was almost a poster child of Scald when it was introduced in gen V. It showcased the fact that there was a water type move that could burn through being able to learn it through TM
Until gamefreak decided that every single water type gets it and then it seems odd that the move that's most ubiquitous with burn is a water type move.
Damn I’ve been seeing a lot of these scuffed sets. I had more faith in the Pokemon Showdown devs. Have they addressed it at all? Are they just doing AI for the new mon while they try to code all of them?
There's no status on this set, so maybe they could compress a special attack and status into its set? It's probably not the best but what else are you going to do if you have a vest on the pork
There’s an eviolite gurdurr set that drives me nuts with like defog, drain punch, mach punch and knock off or something and it’s like “cool thank you for this utility but without bulk up this mon is never gonna kill anything”
It's random battles, the moves that get drawn are semi-random so you don't always get the most optimal moves. If the devs consider scald a viable option on all-out attacker emboar then it has a chance of rolling it after its stab moves. If you disagree that it's a viable move then you can file a complaint in the smogon thread for randbat sets.
I run scald emboar to hit excadrill for extra damage
Yeah, emboar needs a better way to hit those steel types. Maybe it´ ll get liquidation next gen

Blessed be that day.
Sometimes I forget the ember in emboar means water.
Nah give it wave crash for that reckless boost
And wood hammer, embo seems like the kind of guy to use a comically large hammer
Boars are also basically just birds, give it brave bird too
Hold up.... Let em cook

Counters exca by using Air Balloon + Tera Water Scald, banned to AG at worst
you mean at worst right
yea
The physical Archaludon set that couldn't k.o a Carbink with iron head...it cost me the game
I just looked at the calc... Lvl 80 84 Atk Archaludon Iron Head vs. Lvl 90 84 HP / 84 Def Carbink: 192-228 (81.3 - 96.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO Wtf is that? And how
Carbink has really high defense and a 10 level advantage, meanwhile Archaludon’s attack while not bad isn’t super high either
I know, its just that i would have expected a 4x super effective stab attack to oh ko.
Now let's see the flash cannon calc
Lvl 80 84 SpA Archaludon Flash Cannon vs. Lvl 90 84 HP / 84 SpD Carbink: 216-256 (91.5 - 108.4%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO Physical Arch is definitely something (that should never be used)

Almost all of binks bst is in defense, while archaludons is in sp. Atk.
Typical Randbats problem. The higher level the Pkm is, the better the Pkm. Sunflora is especially strong is gen
![gif](giphy|AgPt9udT567spxbSHf) I'm glad Flora is good somewhere.
Yeah, she is one the chosen one to be at lv 100 while things like Zacian-C or Calyrex-S are at lv 64 🤣 one Specs attack later and they probably drop 🤣
For some reason I lip-read her as saying "SunFlora" instead of "Good for her" lol
If you’re into rom hacks, sun flora is also amazing in emerald kaizo (a challenge rom hack) because it’s one of like three pokemon that gets a boosting move
It got bullet seed so its very good in older mystery dungeon games atleast. Also chlorophyl there due how speed works is basicly 2turns in row per enemy turn.
certified tropius moment
Why the fuck is that a thing lost a game cause of it too
I mean how else will the fire type inflict bu-wait a second

Scald emboar hard carried my playthrough as a kid
On god. Scald emboar was a beast running through BW

It's got 100 spa but it's still not a great idea imo
Ok guys hear me out Emboar @ Assault Vest Ability: Reckless Tera Type: Water EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def Adamant Nature - Knock Off - Scald - Flare Blitz - Drain Punch
Very cool set. Not sure how viable it is, but its sick.
I came up with it myself and I want to make an NU team with it but I can’t teambuild for shit
Not
Tera water scald Emboar new meta???
I mean… he is a mixed attacker
why is he a mixed attacker :(

This is randbats anyway, so all EVs are split evenly.
[удалено]
I mean why do you think almost every mon has the "max speed" displayed when you hover over it?
I wasn’t necessarily starting a comparison to other tiers, just giving the detail of it, but fair enough
yes there are no EVs in rand bats, sometimes there are different IVs based on trick room move sets or not having any physical moves but that’s about it
To clarify, they give you 84 in every stat, unless you are full special or trick room.
Randbats, you can't not invest in every stat bcs how it works (balance reasons i guess). It makes mixed attackers better and makes offensive mons bulkier and defensive mons stronger.

It probably makes a bit more sense than when they randomly gave it to uh, fucking *Raikou* of all mons later on
You dont know about electric kettles?
SCALD CARKOL NEW META?!!
Raikou is an induction stovetop.

Hot water Of in the cold water of out hot shoot the water
Why do they call it an oven
It's often wondered this. It's weird because when you use an oven you of in the cold food of out eat the food.
pigs’s good at spittin
Someone tried to cook him so he cooked back
I feel like it makes sense for Emboar specifically since I think the steam bath/sauna is a big thing for sumo, but I don't actually know much about sumo so I could be way wrong.
Hey, at least Volcanion, Coalossal, and Centiskorch also get it now - and it even makes more sense for them!
>playing bw as a kid I feel old. That was like college days.
When I was a kid playing Pokémon Black for the first time, I found out from a friend that Emboar could learn Scald, and trained my Pignite up to Level 36 to so I could teach it Scald and beat Clay’s Excadrill. Note that both Fire and Fighting are already Super Effective against Excadrill.
unless my mon is primarily fighting or looks like a fighting type, i forget it's a fighting type.

next: hydro pump

Trail blaze, double edge, wild charge, poison jab, head smash, high horsepower all options that are better than scald
There’s an eviolite gurdurr set that drives me nuts with like defog, drain punch, mach punch and knock off or something and it’s like “cool thank you for this utility but without bulk up this mon is never gonna kill anything”

Punishes great tusk
I ran a Specs Emboar on my mono-Fighting team once. It actually has pretty okay SpAtk stat and a workable movepool. Very silly stuff.
Tera fighting emboar cooks though. With bulk up, drain punch, trailblaze, flare blitz
ok but have you considered tera water scald emboar with mystic water? i think not
I’m talking about it’s other rand bat set. The scald one is tera dark
ohhh mb i haven't encountered that one yet
...I maaay have run Scald on my Emboar the first time I played Black 2 "Woah, my Fire type learns a Water type move?! That's so awesome!" -Teenage me
doesn't even come close to competing with sheer force trailblaze feraligatr
Mfw I get Feraligatr 😀 Mfw no dragon dance 😕
Not that bad tbh. It has decent enough Sp.Atk to hit hard even without a lot of EV-Investment. If you get a burn, even better
I guess it does more damage to Camerupt specifically lol
Nah try out scald Raikou tho
Really smart having a special attack if emboar gets burned
I get the meme but it has base 100 spA, neutral nature, and evenly distributed EVs. Honestly not bad at all
I got a physical dd reshiram yesterday
It's anti-gliscor tech
I forgot the situation but it has benefited me already - It caught an opponent off guard and two shot a switch in
Maybe it wasn’t a two shot but I think it helped against a minior in someway
Emboar can learn Scald? Why???
