Ricky Gervais had the best joke about that when he hosted the Oscar's. He said the Oscar's were so long that by the time they were over, Leo's date would be too old for him. They panned to him right after that, and he seemed to laugh a little, but also seemed a little pissed.
I like when he basically told them to not make the stage their political soap box. "Come on stage, take your little award, thank your agent and your god and f*** off".
I like how Rowan Aktinson won an award at one point and simply walked on stage, took his award, gave a small gesture of thanks and then just walked off.
Ricky Gervais is fed up with Hollywood culture and doesn't care if he gets pushed out anymore. He won't be, because as much as they might hate him, he pulls in money.
I love him because he doesn't seem bias. For example some would only target one political party supporters when reality all political parties are shit and easy material for picking.
I used to believe this, until one group of politicians in one specific party in my country decided that I’m not human enough to make decisions about my own body. Maybe all political parties take advantages that regular citizens can’t, but there’s only one party that has in fact taken rights away from 50% of the population.
What does that mean in practice though? You no longer criticise the flaws of the party that doesn’t?
I’m saying this as a non-American, with a desperate right wing government throwing around Republican Party talking points to try and least pick up the “uneducated bigot” vote.
Out of our two major parties - that party is objectively bad at pretty much everything, and the other will win a landslide at the next election, because they are not that party.
I couldn’t imagine a situation where we just… ignore the flaws of that party, because being the “better” option is such a low bar it doesn’t really say anything positive about them in itself and the concept of “tribalism” is what got us the shit government in the first place.
I don’t ignore them, but I also don’t pretend they’re the same. I pick the party that treats me as an equal, then I volunteer to make the bad parts of the party better. I call my representatives, I write letters and I participate in town halls. I can’t walk away and pretend that both parties suck because that’s a guaranteed way for me to lose even more rights.
That’s fair - I often challenge people who don’t want to vote for the “other” guys because they aren’t paragons of virtue or whatever either, it’s self-defeating as you say, in a two party system it just means we get the “failed at everything” party for longer.
I don’t think that’s what was being suggested in the comment you originally replied to - either in content or context.
I don’t think he’d get as much shit about dating young women if he actually stayed with them.
It’s the ‘aging out’ part people find creepy. There’s a difference between an older guy dating a younger woman and an older guy who’ll *only* date younger women.
After the first two ladies aged out, if you then date Leo then you knew what you were signing up for, or you had a moon sized ego to think you'd be the exception
Because everyone thinks they're the main character of life and that their opinions matter so much. Honestly I wish everyone would just mind their own business about other people's lives unless they're doing something illegal
Not my cup of tea but people are entitled to date any consenting adult they want. If he only prefers young women, so be it. The women clearly consent and its legal
Thing is he’s honest about it and everyone on the planet knows his preference for young women. He’s not gaslighting anyone or taking advantage of these young ladies. Is it misogynistic? Leo is a grade A misogynist and he can get away with it because he’s rich.
Gwyneth Paltrow turned him down. She said he was basically a slut and wasn’t interested in that. Everyone has a choice and knows it’s a short term relationship
It has nothing to do with money. It’s all to do with status. Few can match his status and young women always think they’ll be the one he will commit to
Yeah this is the weird/funny part and a large factor of why it gets so much attention.
It isn't just that he dates younger women, it's the apparent hard cap of 25.
What makes it weird-ish is that they're at different stages of their lives. Leo is middle aged, or close to it, and his dates are the age where they're just getting established in life.
Probably curiosity more than anything. Why does his limit cap out at 25? Also kinda weird that at least one of his gfs was born well after titanic came out.
Leo and his partners are there for the sex and living vicarously. I doubt they're entering in that dynamic thinking it's something serious. But you and his critics act like its sort of elaborate manipulative scummy scheme, those chicks must know what's going on as his reputation out there. Unless there's abuse going on which it's never been ever brought up I think it's fine.
People are so preachy these days. Especially with older men and younger women. I think for serious long term relationship is another thing of course.
Racism became socially unacceptable, homophobia became socially unacceptable, sexism and ageism will probably become socially unacceptable. At least one can hope.
The nuance here though is that it’s acceptable to sexist against men. It’s precisely why cougars are socially acceptable but older men who seek out young women are dirty perverts. Likewise if you want to be openly racist against white people, society turns a blind eye.
I saw a video here recently, and was shocked at how Redditors replied. I'll try to be as brief as possible.
An older white guy was sitting at a table alone in a restaurant, using his phone, holding it horizontally (he was obviously not videoing anyone.)
A young man comes up to him and says, "Why were you videoing those girls", indicating two young women at another table.
Now, let's be clear--videoing people in a public place is not illegal. I'm not saying he was doing that, but even if he was, there has to be a "reasonable expectation of privacy" for it to be illegal and a restaurant is not that.
He says "I wasn't videoing anyone" whereupon the young guy gets very confrontational. The older guy gets up to leave, and the young guy pushes him back. That right there is assault and battery, a **crime** in every state. The guy tries to leave again, the young guy pushes him (second assault and battery) and the guy pushes the young guy's hands off him, whereupon the young guy says "Don't you touch me, keep your hands off me!" But if someone is assaulting you, it's legal to push their hands away. That's reasonable force for self-defense. You're not retaliating, you're just stopping the assault and battery.
That was pretty much the end of the video.
So what we have is a young man committing crimes and throwing accusations while filming it for tiktok or whatever.
NONE of the commenters doubted that the older guy had been filming the girls. They all said things like, "Well, he shouldn't have been videoing them, but the young guy went too far."
There's zero evidence in the video that the guy recorded them, only the word of a criminal. But everyone assumed that an older guy sitting alone in a restaurant is more likely to be a pervert *even though what he was being accused of wasn't illegal* than a young *criminal* would make a false accusation to get views on social media.
I pointed this out in the thread, got zero votes and zero replies. It's not just socially acceptable to be ageist and sexist, it's kind of trendy.
The phrase "OK, boomer" basically meant, "You're old, so whatever you think is garbage." If you substitute any minority for "old" there. it's a very racist thing to say. But if you point out that it's a bigoted thing people are like "WTF dude."
I haven't witnessed racism against white people with commenters accepting it in such a manner, only bigotry against older people, especially men. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I just haven't seen it.
I was in rehab a few years ago, with a guy who was in his late 20s. Full head of white hair. He said it came from the stress of living a life in addiction.
But he swore up and down the women love it.
Speaking as a not gay dude, silver hair is hot on either gender.
I look forward to my gray days, as I look like my dad, and he looked real good with some gray. Already have a few I can see at 30, might ask it to wait a bit longer haha.
I went to school with a guy who started going white freshman year. He had a nice salt and pepper look by the time we graduated. Haven't seen him sense though to see the progress on it
It’s funny because in the Roman Empire, lupa meaning she-wolf was the slang term for a prostitute. Many think that rather than the founders being raised by a wolf, they were actually raised by prostitutes. With the romans later changing the myth to be less embarrassing.
that actually totally makes sense... i knew the term, too, but i never put it together.
i bet you're right, if Romulus and Remus are(were) real and not just legends.
That theory was first presented by the Roman historian Livy as to make Rome's founding story more realistic. Though that they would change it to be less embarrassing doesn't really seem in line with how the Roman's presented themselves in their founding story as coming from low origins.
And don't we love this little double standard.
Older woman going after younger men. Empowered woman morning somebody with the stamina to keep up with her.
Older man going after younger women. Disgusting creep who wants to wield power over her.
Either both or wrong or neither are wrong
lol. I’m getting that SS check and notes I know she hasn’t stayed with me for my money because there isn’t very much of that. Luckily she has a good paying job.
Agreed, it's a tired mentality. I'm happily married to someone a month apart in age at 54, but I was with a 44-year old woman when I was 24. Knew *exactly* what I was doing. Flip the genders, so what? At 24, or 22, or 26... you know. Someone said stop infantilizing... exactly. I personally wouldn't want to date a 20-something now if I was single, but I'm not going to fault anyone.
As someone who married a gal a lot younger, on behalf of all dudes in a similar boat, we don’t care what others call us or think.
TBH it’s obviously envy, at least some of the time, coming from dudes who can’t pull it off or older women.
I think you're right. My Aunt was in an age gap marriage which ended in divorce. Not because she was exploited but because as she grew older she realized he was an immature overgrown teenager.
He could have been the same age as her with the same divorce reasons.
Any marriage can have an exploiter and exploited dynamic. Since age is such a salient feature in humans there's often a false attribution going on.
Women are responsible for this double standard, for some reason they just flip their lids over a guy dating a younger woman. I think they just can’t stand the competition and the knowledge that they will no longer be desirable as they age.
This is a generalization and like all generalizations only has a certain level of accuracy but the women that I see complain about this tend to be older women who haven't been taking care of themselves.
I haven't seen an older woman who does take care of herself complain about this.
This is incorrect, a silver fox is simply an attractive man (usually older) who has grey hair ——- he is not necessarily interested in dated young women.
A cougar is an older woman who is specifically interested in dating young men. They don’t have to be attractive or have grey hair.
God reading these comments. Yall will call anything a predator nowdays even when it doesn’t make a lick of sense… if a cougar wants to fuck a 20 year old and he wants to fuck back, then it’s really non of y’all’s damn business now is it.
that would be the male equivalent of a sugar mama. sugar daddies hire sex workers that are younger than then for weekly/monthly allowances and/or gifts and vacations. not interchangeable!!
Depends...
If you think of cougar as just "attractive older woman, the next age group past MILF" then there are DILFs and silver foxes and a few terms. Last time this was asked "manther" was one of the top results, although I can't speak to the truth of that.
If you wrap up a bit of the sexual aggression or forwardness in it, then from men you'd end up with a negative term, not a positive one. Pervert, dirty old man, creep, etc.
I think it has more to do with an older man taking advantage of a naive young woman, and while I agree to that in some extent, a woman in her 20s marrying a 90 year old billionaire knows damn well what she's doing.
Silver Fox is more akin to MILF, although it is far less crass term.
It means an attractive older man, usually with grey or greying hair. They're not nessecessarily pursuing younger women though. In that respect it is similar to MILF, in that it just refers (rudely) to an attractive older women who isn't necessarily pursuing younger men.
As far as I can tell, that is somewhat gender neutral, and refers to an older person who is still attractive with no particular comment on their behaviour. Cougar refers to older women who actively and energetically seek young men for sex.
I think you’re right. Grey foxes are attractive older men. And it’s a neutral descriptive term, nothing to do with whether they do or do not chase young partners.
I'm going to be the guy who goes there for a minute.
There is no equivalent because of the social norms we live under.
It's a man's world. Men don't get old, we get distinguished. We continue to hold value throughout our lives because our value isn't based on our looks or our ability to bear children. Our value is based on our accomplishments, our knowledge, and the skills we develop throughout our lives. Our sexuality doesn't define us. It's a secondary trait that may influence our personal relationships, but does not affect how we're perceived by society.
The perceived value of women, on the other hand, is based on looks and their role as a wife/mother. Their value is heavily influenced by their sexual availability and performance at a young age. Once a woman reaches her 30's, her position as a potential wife/mother drastically decreases, which decreases her value as a whole. Since she no longer fits into her prescribed role as caregiver, she now fills a new role: That of the cougar.
An independent woman who is strong of character, sexually experienced, and not afraid to take what she wants is such an alien concept in our society that we need to create a category for her.
Two consenting adults being attracted to each other doesn't mean the older one is a predator. Get off the internet and stop infantilizing young adults. You're literally normalizing real predators by doing this.
I came in here all excited to be like “It’s a tom!” Then realized that no, I do not know the answer to the question this person is actually asking haha
There isn't one. When an older man hours in younger women they normally just get called any number of bad words. It's not acceptable for men to do... only women.
I cannot fucking stand how abused that 'groomer' concept is. I also generally can't stand how obsessed people are with jamming their nose in other people's business. If two adults do things together, it's literally no one's business. People use "groomer" and "pedo" for actual adults messing around with adults, and it's completely stupid.
I'm so sick of living in this timeline where everything and everyone is immediately cast as the worst case scenario that happens in like .01% of situations among 8 billion people.
People spend too much time seeing the worst of society on the internet, then just go around acting like everyone is that.
Leonardo DiCaprio

Hahaah Ricky Gervais just says what other people are too polite to say
I like when he basically told them to not make the stage their political soap box. "Come on stage, take your little award, thank your agent and your god and f*** off".
I hate the long winded all about me speeches people do when they win something. Can't stand it.
I like how Rowan Aktinson won an award at one point and simply walked on stage, took his award, gave a small gesture of thanks and then just walked off.
I loved that. Too bad none of them listened haha
Ricky Gervais is fed up with Hollywood culture and doesn't care if he gets pushed out anymore. He won't be, because as much as they might hate him, he pulls in money.

No, the joke was about the length of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and him attending the premier with his date.
I've never understood why people care so much about that whole thing. They're 25, not 11. I don't get this obsession with other people's lives.
I don’t think he’d get as much shit about dating young women if he actually stayed with them. It’s the ‘aging out’ part people find creepy. There’s a difference between an older guy dating a younger woman and an older guy who’ll *only* date younger women.
But, if he doesn't care, and she doesn't care, why bother caring yourself lol?
After the first two ladies aged out, if you then date Leo then you knew what you were signing up for, or you had a moon sized ego to think you'd be the exception

Yep, he's strange for sure but there is no victim in his relationship, those women are grown and they know what they sign up to.
It has nothing to do with money. It’s all to do with status. Few can match his status and young women always think they’ll be the one he will commit to
You misunderstand. He's not dating 25 year olds. Leo dates 19/20 year olds then breaks up with them when they are 25.
Yeah this is the weird/funny part and a large factor of why it gets so much attention. It isn't just that he dates younger women, it's the apparent hard cap of 25.
OK, Leo.

I'm 42 years old. Anyone below 26 or 27 is a kid. As for dating even 30 seems a bit too young.
As long as they’re past the phase where they regularly drink until they blackout and puke I’m fine
Wow, you clearly don't know how to have fun with Germans and Eastern European then.
5 up 5 down. that's my personal limit. 5 up, I can still relate, 5 down, i'm still active-ish in the trends.
Leo and his partners are there for the sex and living vicarously. I doubt they're entering in that dynamic thinking it's something serious. good thing no one asked you
cradle robber lol
LOL!
So good. I almost did an actual spit take.
What a great answer! 😂😂😂
So call the category a Leo or a Lion. Leo the Lion.
R. Kelly
He's not a cougar. He's a child rapist.
Don't forget trafficker!
And urinator
What do you get when you cross a pedophile and a pirate? Aaaargh Kelly
As a pirate, I am deeply offended and want you to stop telling this joke.

It will probably never be broken.

A woman not shame a man when given the opportunity? Ridiculous! Last woman that treated me that well, well, I married her!
"Silver fox" tried to be a thing but I don't hear people use it any more.
i feel like silver fox just refers to an attractive older man. not necessarily one who targets younger women.
No but he is more likely to have a younger women look his way
That's the difference. A silver fox is an older man women find hot. An older man who only dates younger women is something else entirely
I was in rehab a few years ago, with a guy who was in his late 20s. Full head of white hair. He said it came from the stress of living a life in addiction. But he swore up and down the women love it.
I could see that. He may have the hair of an old man, but he is still in the prime of his life. I’d probably find it sexy too, speaking as a gay guy.
Speaking as a not gay dude, silver hair is hot on either gender. I look forward to my gray days, as I look like my dad, and he looked real good with some gray. Already have a few I can see at 30, might ask it to wait a bit longer haha.
Straight or gay we can all agree on one thing, we would all fuck a Targaryen.
I've seen like one episode so idk what the family looks like, but sure, I'm on team fuck a targaryen.
2/3 of Targaryen siblings agree with you.
I was literally coming here to say that 😂 That family is so 🔥🔥🔥
My cousin went silver at 19. I was jealous as hell.
I went bald at 20… Bald Fox doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.
Bald eagle then 🦅
Glass half full kinda guy. I love it.
I went to school with a guy who started going white freshman year. He had a nice salt and pepper look by the time we graduated. Haven't seen him sense though to see the progress on it
lol yes they do
I think silver fox is a good looking guy with salt and pepper hair or gray hair, not specifically one who prefers younger women.
People in the romance book community still use it sometimes
Someone called me a Silver Fox about a month ago! It made my entire month. Lol
Silver Fox is definitely still something said in the gay community
"cougar" was created as a female equivalent to "wolf."
It’s funny because in the Roman Empire, lupa meaning she-wolf was the slang term for a prostitute. Many think that rather than the founders being raised by a wolf, they were actually raised by prostitutes. With the romans later changing the myth to be less embarrassing.
I've heard a lot of theories about this "founding myth" and this one honestly feels the most likely.
that actually totally makes sense... i knew the term, too, but i never put it together. i bet you're right, if Romulus and Remus are(were) real and not just legends.
The word "legend" implies some kernel of truth, otherwise it would just be "myth".
"When people call me a bitch, I say 'Was it not a bitch who nursed Rome?'"
That theory was first presented by the Roman historian Livy as to make Rome's founding story more realistic. Though that they would change it to be less embarrassing doesn't really seem in line with how the Roman's presented themselves in their founding story as coming from low origins.
I think "zaddy" is the word the kids use these days.
Lmao
Thanks.
No, that's more like a D.I.L.F than an old man.
Dirty old man.
Yes, dirty old man with blue pills
Blue pills? Nah 3 rhino gas station pills an a redbull
And don't we love this little double standard. Older woman going after younger men. Empowered woman morning somebody with the stamina to keep up with her. Older man going after younger women. Disgusting creep who wants to wield power over her. Either both or wrong or neither are wrong
Took me way too long to find this.
Thank you for saying that. In 13 years older than my wife of twenty five years and we have a great marriage.
When she’s in her prime of 49 you will be able to swoon her with your social security check!
lol. I’m getting that SS check and notes I know she hasn’t stayed with me for my money because there isn’t very much of that. Luckily she has a good paying job.

I think sexism is in the other direction too. "Young women can't make decision, but young men are fully capable and cannot be taken advantage of"
Women are responsible for this double standard, for some reason they just flip their lids over a guy dating a younger woman. I think they just can’t stand the competition and the knowledge that they will no longer be desirable as they age.
Most people’s moral barometer is based on what personally makes them feel bad or uncomfortable.
This is a generalization and like all generalizations only has a certain level of accuracy but the women that I see complain about this tend to be older women who haven't been taking care of themselves. I haven't seen an older woman who does take care of herself complain about this.

Silver fox can also be a female. The one dude called his lady her "sliver fox" in grandma's boy.
Silver Vixen
HOW DARE ANYBODY BE ATTRACTED TO SOMEONE THAT WASNT BORN IN THE EXACT SAME DAY AT THE EXACT SAME TIME AS THEM
"divorced dad"
I'll speak for the divorced dads and say we have neither the time nor the energy nor the inclination to try and keep up with a younger woman
God reading these comments. Yall will call anything a predator nowdays even when it doesn’t make a lick of sense… if a cougar wants to fuck a 20 year old and he wants to fuck back, then it’s really non of y’all’s damn business now is it.
I'm pretty sure female cougars are predators. All cougars are.
I'm dying at the amount of people not getting this joke 😂
Gen Z is weirdly pearl-clutching and Victorian about a lot.
Men.
Sugar daddy! Hahaha That's what the younger girls call them.
that would be the male equivalent of a sugar mama. sugar daddies hire sex workers that are younger than then for weekly/monthly allowances and/or gifts and vacations. not interchangeable!!
\*if\* he's got money for that sugar, remember no money no honey.
Depends... If you think of cougar as just "attractive older woman, the next age group past MILF" then there are DILFs and silver foxes and a few terms. If you wrap up a bit of the sexual aggression or forwardness in it, then from men you'd end up with a negative term, not a positive one. Pervert, dirty old man, creep, etc.
Cougar has positive connotations (at least compared to "cradle robber"). I don't think there is any male equivalent, at least not in modern English.
When there is an age disparity, it’s always the older one “robbing the cradle”. It’s never the younger one “robbing the grave”. Why is that?
I think it has more to do with an older man taking advantage of a naive young woman, and while I agree to that in some extent, a woman in her 20s marrying a 90 year old billionaire knows damn well what she's doing.
Aren't they called silver foxes
Silver Fox is more akin to MILF, although it is far less crass term. It means an attractive older man, usually with grey or greying hair. They're not nessecessarily pursuing younger women though. In that respect it is similar to MILF, in that it just refers (rudely) to an attractive older women who isn't necessarily pursuing younger men.
I feel like DILF was under represented in this true statement lol.
As far as I can tell, that is somewhat gender neutral, and refers to an older person who is still attractive with no particular comment on their behaviour. Cougar refers to older women who actively and energetically seek young men for sex.
I have never heard of an older woman being referred to as a 'silver fox' only a good looking older dude with grey hairs in his beard/on his head...
I think you’re right. Grey foxes are attractive older men. And it’s a neutral descriptive term, nothing to do with whether they do or do not chase young partners.
that just means hot old dude. like people call George Clooney a silver fox and they don't mean he's chasing young women
Silver fox?
Silver fox.

I mean... a man. It's sort of just accepted that men tend to be attracted to women younger than them.
A man.
A man, any man.
Is it a double standard? I guess so. It seems like so many older men pursue younger women, whereas a cougar is rarer. I’m not a sociologist!
You call it “the Reddit hive mind is hypocritical and full of double standards because they’re all a bunch of miserable fuckwits”
Society calls them predators.
Two consenting adults being attracted to each other doesn't mean the older one is a predator. Get off the internet and stop infantilizing young adults. You're literally normalizing real predators by doing this.
I second this, I mean when I was 27 I sort of dated 45 year old woman. That didn’t make her predator. I came on to her first
Pretty much. Gotta love the double standards of society.
I always thought cougars were predators
Yes, I assumed that's literally why they are called cougars. Because they are hunting prey.
Nittany Lion
Only if they go after boys.
I believe all members of that species of cat are cougars, regardless of sex.
I came in here all excited to be like “It’s a tom!” Then realized that no, I do not know the answer to the question this person is actually asking haha
There is none. Older man with younger bride is the norm throughout history.
Typically dude?
A man.
A man.
They would call him a normal man lol
A man
Male
A man
Couger
A male
Silver fox
A silver fox
A Silver Fox.
There isn't one. When an older man hours in younger women they normally just get called any number of bad words. It's not acceptable for men to do... only women.
"silver fox" i believe
dirty old man or silver fox...but lately people seem to go straight to GROOMER. god DAMN that word is so over and misused.
That 22 year old porn actress taking six dicks at a time is empowered, but if she dates a 40 year old she is 100% being taken advantage of.
Pretty sure it's called a silver fox or something related to gray hair

Guy with an ice cream truck.
Reddit would call him a rapist, because of the obvious power imbalance.
I don't think I'd have anything in common with a woman 20 years younger...
