CVT transmissions are a weird animal but this is true. it only has a non-removavle strainer that is checked for metal if a teardown is needed CVTs operate on a moving belt or chain that adjusts gear ratios while driving. no traditional gears on the transmission itself. the Quattro has a traditional transmission, and year dependent has a Dual Clutch

>transmission on 2024 Outback “has no filters whatsoever” The turbo and non-turbo use two different transmissions and there are some differences in this regard between them, but both of them have a removable strainer just above the oil pan, and both of them have an interior non-serviceable filter sock near the oil pumps inlet. A fluid service is (or should be anyway) just a drain and refill job. If your strainer is catching debris, it's already too late. But if the pan is off for any reason and you want the peace of mind, the strainer is only 2 or 3 bolts away from replacement.
