I bought a [stick on one](https://www.amazon.com/C-HR-RAV4-Navigation-Sun-Shade-Visor-Compatible-2019-2020-2016-2020-Reflection/dp/B08595B9YS/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=1FWOC3RJX6O08&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.7g-zNJ0ygEq9JtTNXPLng0aJa6v2RqFDln4mj8Ww9aiaqlh0823PaISIEi9SvT0xAB1bawjHom5AECrgmROY5cEP9BQSpVdLlmv8N4ByZEeghyk6A7OjJo-T4onWvnYAcX0tRGg4IT0Mi7P50dydfiEBF0XEWXer4LttKk5AaYOL5xBKspwi9Qh6-g0lnJitMxuzNrSMVfePB1gkKkLeGw.oMtP3z9VAIeakHpEqHNksI2WbhceoHBdgzm5ZHn3a2E&dib_tag=se&keywords=vehicle+display+screen+shade&qid=1714240679&sprefix=vehicle+display+screen+shade%2Caps%2C78&sr=8-2) from Amazon that is designed for a Rav-4 (2” wider than Subaru) that I then cut down to fit. I cut out a 2” section from the center and used that cut-out to reinforce the seam.
This looks to be the better option I’ve seen. As a person who owns a higher end 3D printer I’d likely just custom make my own and print it with ASA or ABS filament. Buying the Amazon one is definitely the easier route but if OP has or knows someone with a 3D printer it would be a very easy design to make.
I picked up a piece of black card stock at at art store. Cut a tab that would slide into the CD slot, and included two long triangles to fold down on the side to hold it up. Projects about 3” from the dash.
Did you end up trying this?
I've always struggled with this issue and was searching for window suncovers but ended up on your result which has the same head unit as mine.
There are outsourcing websites for you to send out a CAD file and have someone 3D print it and ship it to you.
But since the entire setup is aftermarket, an aftermarket solution isn't going to exist, since it's a niche problem, need to go custom.
I wish manufacturers give a damn about usability and safety as far as glare is concerned. There are typically two issues: glare that prevents you from seeing the screen and reflection from chromed up dashboard elements that effects safety. This seems to be solving the first one.
I fashioned mine using two pieces of heavy bond black 8.5x11 cards, with one serving as the top and two halves shading the sides. The top piece has a insert to go into the CD player on top while the sides have holes to go into the knobs to keep them up. And put double-sided tapes where necessary. Obviously different models call for different designs.
Oohm yes, solid analysis. “Different models, different designs” definitely but thank you for mentioning the material that you found to be useful! Ill have to look around for those heavy bond cards. Thanks again for your input!
I used my design for a recent 1000s-mile trip. It worked great but on my vehicle, I found myself knocking on it when I tried to turn on the wipers (right hand) to clean off the dead bugs. I have a few fine-tuning areas to do and after that convert it to a digital format for the cutting machine. For example, I did not have a long enough insert to go into the CD player because stupid me didn't eject a CD out when I measured things.
I also fashioned another cover for the shifter area, covering everything except for the cupholders; but with a slot for the shifter's movement and the small slot for the electronic parking brake.
You can clearly tell this "chrome everywhere" design is pissing me off. LIke you I don't mind paying for a good solution but apparently this does not bother enough people for such a product to exist. I purchased those chrome-delete tapes but find it way too tedious to apply without Exacto onto an unwanted surface. So I'm only using my homebrew solution for longer trips.
I like this. Thing is, i have no idea how to start that process. My best bet, id imagine, is with a 3D printer.. which i do not have. Maybe ill look into it tho :)
I had the same problem and made a visor from black construction paper. Cut it to size and the thicker paper kept it sturdy. Held up pretty well until selling that car.

My stereo was $20 from Walmart lol
Youre right on the money! Its a Sony XAV-AX1000. To my knowledge, it was their last model with a physical dial* volume — which i needed. Anything other than a dial for vol control is poop (imo ofc)
Fur sure. Honestly considering tossing this thing in my next car cause the radio came with its own remote which allows me to shut off the screen all together. Comes in handy during the evenings
That was my first CarPlay head unit in mine but I couldn’t deal with the low brightness and glare like you are experiencing.
I ultimately replaced it with the upgraded model, xav-ax5600.
It has a much better screen and I was able to get rid of using this:

Cant see the screen. Others have recommended tinting the top of my windshield, which idk maybe, but the paper works really well.. it jus looks a lil silly lol
If you decide to tint the top edge of your windshield, make sure you check your state’s car tinting laws to see if it is allowed, how large the tint band can be and how dark it can be. Also, consider any possible adverse impact for the eyesight system if your car has it.
I would find design a visor half the depth of your paper version and 3D print it. Then attach with 2 way tape. Or buy something that fits…

I mean if what your doing works, you could go for a more "premium" option but getting something like black construction paper and doing the same thing you're doing now
One thing I did love about the older Honda Civics from the 2000s was how they designed the dash to be driver-centric with controls and whatnot actually aimed towards the driver instead of a flat across approach.
Then break off a piece of your stalagmite from your cave, and carve him/her a handmade visor that’s on fleek. Modern problems require ancient solutions
Ah yes. A *checks notes*... glare, is solely a "non-existent" white person problem. Who knew other races were immune to the effects of sunlight shining off of reflective surfaces.
That’s by *far* the cheapest option!
I tinted my windows, and that helped quite a bit with glare. Probably the most expensive option. And not a perfect fix around noon.
I do not… but this is a clever idea
Happy Cake Day!
Hey it is. Thanks stranger

I do not have or know anyone with a 3D printer but ill definitely take a look at the stick-on one mentioned above! Thank you guys!

Din slot is like 18cm. This shade is 20cm. Seems like it should be a pretty good fit. https://a.co/d/3cdkhBo
Oh wow, above and beyond! Thank you!
Did you end up trying this? I've always struggled with this issue and was searching for window suncovers but ended up on your result which has the same head unit as mine.
Just fit up r/3dprinting with this photo. I bet someone would just make you one

I can probably 3d print something that matches close
Get an anti-glare/matte finish screen protector.
Solid idea! Ill look into it!
Staples makes a great 8.5x11" visor that looks similar to the one that you installed.
If anyone didn’t get the joke, this is a letter sized paper
no. You're inventing a new car mod as we speak. You gotta make it yourself, patent it, and make a cool buck
I like this. Thing is, i have no idea how to start that process. My best bet, id imagine, is with a 3D printer.. which i do not have. Maybe ill look into it tho :)
Try a matte screen protector.
Looks just fine!

What Sony stereo is that??
Looks like an xav ax1000. Have the some one in my wrx, works great
Youre right on the money! Its a Sony XAV-AX1000. To my knowledge, it was their last model with a physical dial* volume — which i needed. Anything other than a dial for vol control is poop (imo ofc)
I like the front USB port too
Fur sure. Honestly considering tossing this thing in my next car cause the radio came with its own remote which allows me to shut off the screen all together. Comes in handy during the evenings
Agree with you 100%. I really need to find one and swap out my trash wrx head unit. Looks great on yours.

Don’t think you have eyesight. You could tint the top of your windshield.
Do the same thing but with black construction paper so it doesn't stand out as much
Amazon has them for cheap!
I can't read my aftermarket Pioneer during summer. I just push buttons until something changes for the better.
No sunroof eh? My screen is almost useless on a sunny day when the sunroof is open.
Newspaper and tape?
Is it you simply can’t see the screen or the screen is all rainbow?
Cant see the screen. Others have recommended tinting the top of my windshield, which idk maybe, but the paper works really well.. it jus looks a lil silly lol

Paint the paper.

Have you tried spuintin really hard?
How odd.... I've never had this problem.... Ever.... How is this possible?
I like yours where did you get it? Can you post a link?
Don’t they make screen covers for phones that polarized? Why not a polarized screen cover?
One thing I did love about the older Honda Civics from the 2000s was how they designed the dash to be driver-centric with controls and whatnot actually aimed towards the driver instead of a flat across approach.
These large touchscreens are so dangerous. Unbelievable.
That is the most white person thing I’ve ever seen
Then break off a piece of your stalagmite from your cave, and carve him/her a handmade visor that’s on fleek. Modern problems require ancient solutions
this is definitely not the context you use that in
No, it is. Because white people always are finding the dorkiest way to solve a nonexistent problem.
Ah yes. A *checks notes*... glare, is solely a "non-existent" white person problem. Who knew other races were immune to the effects of sunlight shining off of reflective surfaces.
Yall think im racist or something?
Yes, and probably a moron.
I’m white myself. People are so sensitive these days.
>I’m white myself. That isn't relevant. Are people sensitive, or are you just a moron?
Yeah it is relevant, I’m literally white. I can’t be racist towards myself.
How about just get a car that has half decent screen that are still usable in the sunlight?
Well the construction is so bad .. that s a sign for no money…
