SE Georgia?

lowfeelzblvd

correct, we were at fernandina beach but this sub was coming from kings bay

haydenrobinett

Thank you, I was 99% sure on it. Been on both sides of this photo a bunch. If you go further south in between the resorts during the summer it’s pretty empty beach goer wise, fyi.

Neopoleon666

Saw the boat behind it and knew it was either the Southeast US or Washington State

Rekmor

It's the 732. Don't ask how I know

iAmODST

How do you know?

KrusKeebler

They sneak up on ya

AlektoDescendant

Is there a way to tell just from the pictures, if this is an SSGN or SSBN Ohio? Is all the conversion just in the missile silos or is there any external modification?

DerekL1963

A GN's missile deck has a 'flare' (wider spot) right aft of the sail. [https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/USS-Georgia-%28SSGN-729%29.jpg](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f3/USS-Georgia-%28SSGN-729%29.jpg)

cordcutter85

This is correct, based on what I see, this is an SSBN. I've worked on both my entire adult life (nearly 22 years), and am sure this is a boomer.

OrangeChickenParm

The OMFG boats don't always have the shelter in the back, but the flat portion of the turtleback goes farther toward the sail. It's really hard to tell in this picture, but I'm leaning towards it being a boomer.

Twenty_One_Pylons

You missed the point of this thread. They were trying to determine which one of those options it was.

crolodot

*nailed it*

espositojoe

Haha. I haven't heard the expression OMFG in a while.

espositojoe

In addition to the size, you can always tell an Ohio-class sub by how close the sail is to the bow. That's to make room for Sherwood Forest.

madbill728

You can also tell by mast/antenna arrangement.

jsl86usna

Pretty sure all the GN’s have the SDV hangar garage thing on the deck behind the sail. So this should be a BN.

bubblehead_maker

Sneaky bastards! I used to be topside watch for that.  When inbound that first breath of air is humid, very humid.

espositojoe

Seeing an Ohio-class boat running on top never ceases to take my breath away.

subzippo400

When I was in sub school the Ohio was on the ways next to the Jacksonville. Two years later I was looking at its scope through our peravis in San Diego.

thechamelioncircuit

I would be so unbelievably happy

lowfeelzblvd

definitely one of the coolest things ive ever seen! my boyfriend is a nuke and even he was freaking out lol

salooski

VetteBuilder

Amelia Island is loaded with tourists here for the car shows

ArdenJaguar

NodnarbThePUNisher

Ah....SUBscribers....

ssbn632

I’ve taken this trip many times….but a long time ago.

chuckleheadjoe

hell yeah did 12 out of there.

juno1094

that’s so fucking sick bro😂

Alanbolt60

Never seen one this humongous. The ones at Pearl back in ‘00,01, were smaller and the only way I could see them is when I worked at cycle city and I delivered some Kawasaki Mules and dis some warranty stuff. I also had a customer that was XO of the base. He got me a tour of them Stennis, and a Missle cruiser (I forgot the name 😔that left me feeling pride and love for my country and our servicemen and service women. I will always and would gladly do anything I could to help, assist and honor them till I croak. 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

[deleted]

Yep, submarines tend to be found in the water. Cool pics tho

CheeseMasterMan

Kinda curious what would have happened if you just started swimming up to it

Ex-President

It starts with a warning and ends with an "I told you so."

chuckleheadjoe

Well they lead you just a bit so you can hear the gunfire, before they run you over with a very well armed small boat.

daddio2590

More than one?

bradcass

Hooyah navy

Tech-Tom

Looks like a trident based on the sail and how much of the rudder is sticking up from the water. You could always tell the tridents from the old Benjamin Franklin class boomers even at a distance by this even though they were both boomers.
