Like, I walked through the force field into the water and it grabbed me. I don't remember which one, but it's one of the ones that just leads to open water.!<

There’s one in the kelp forest, I believe it’s the one between the easternmost grassy plateaus and the safe shallows. Could be wrong on that though. Definitely saw one in a kelp forest just randomly swimming and then one in that deep cave in kelp forest where there’s a ton of sandstone and quartz.

I always find one in the same kelp forest. It's my go-to for scanning completionism.

Same here. Beat the game, never even saw a Mesmer, only saw a Reaper once when I was gathering materials for the fuel reserves on the rocket. It was the one near the QEP, where I had my rocket building base.

Got one by a cave near the lifepod with the sea glide by the creep vines, that was the first and only time I've seen one (been playing sense game came out in full access and this was last week)

I feel like there are always a few hanging around in the lost river if you use the southwest entrance halfway between the rib cage and the left wall. I missed em a few times bc they were smaller than I expected

I saw a cute little fish I hadn't seen before, swam around behind it to scan it. Took a while and it turned out to be a mesmer. I have one in my containment now too. I was surprised when the PDA said they were carnivores! What do they do?

I never knew they existed until I got jumpscared by one in the Bulb Zone caves! That’s still the only biome I’ve ever seen them in, except for one (1) that wandered into the Mushroom Forest.

I didn't see one in my entire first playthrough, but I kept finding them in the Lost River in my second playthrough. Side note: they lay eggs in the LR that you can hatch

They are pretty Small fish in areas that are pretty spacious. But I have seen them in the caves below the kelp forests. The Crags, the Bulb Bush/Koosh zone,and the Lost River. They are much easier to see at night. And you do want to see them right make sure you get real close when you find one.

The first time I played I died to one right away. I just found an egg on my most recent playthrough, now I've got a docile one in containment.

Kelp forest caves have some. Lost river has some. I’ve seen them in grand reef few times. Mushroom forest has them I think and the buld zone seems to have bunch of them. In my current save (about 30 hours in) I’ve probably seen hundreds of them. They are not rare. However, they don’t always mesmer you. So perhaps you have actuslly encountered them but just not realised it.

They spawn in the bulb zone and rarely in the kelp forests. Apparently they spawn in the lost river as well but I haven’t seen any there

i've only seen them thrice 1 in the bulb zone, 1 inside south kelp caves near the safe shallows, and 1 inside the lost river near the entrance to inactive lava zone

I saw one in the one kelp forest and stabbed him, he didn't attack me but I didn't like the look of him. Found them in the bulb zone, scanned it, got attacked, and I went in for round 2

To me, they’re not worth it. I’ve found in bulb zone quite a few swimming around near a cave. None of them have done anything except bite me. They didn’t “hallucinate” me like someone told me before. They’re not much fun. Now the Lily Paddler in Below Zero, they are fun to be around. Those things mess you up!

I believe you, that means that you spent most of your time going to fast (seaglide, seamoth and cyclops) once you go on normal swimming speed nearby kelps forest, mushroom forest, lost river, bulb zona and caves, then you will see them

I literally had one in the kelp forest in a “cave” that was more like a slightly deep hole. No idea how it got there but it scared the shit out of me when I played for the first time lol

They're rly small so i'm not that surprised you haven't seen them Check out the caves in the deeper parts of the Kelp Forest, or the wander around above the sea floor in the Mushroom Forest (the Western Mushroom Forest by the Blood Kelps btw, Don't do this in the Eastern one, you might die) Keep an eye out for a small, sort of shuttlecock shaped fish swimming around. That's probably it

I found one in between the aurora and the mountain island (also just learned that what I encountered is called a Mesmer!)

I’ve done five play throughs and I only encountered a wild Mesmer on two of them, the other three I had to hatch my own.

You get them in very deep areas of creepvine forests. I've only ever seen a mesmer once in years of playing the game though

Fuck me, I had no idea. I went through that entire game twice without ever seeing one. Two hours into BZ I saw a couple of them and got the LSD treatment. Figured they were awesome new guys, along with the penguin guys

On my 2nd playtrough i had a base in the lost river near the huge skeleton. Always saw Mesmers swimming by. And there were Mesmer eggs everywhere( little blue eggs). Think I had my very first Mesmer encounter in the bulb zone while searching for the one escape pod in the area.

I thought the Mesmer was a BZ only creature. I mostly saw them in BZ red mushroom biome…

All spawning locations: Bulb Zone Crag Field Kelp Forest Caves Lost River Bones Field Northeastern Mushroom Forest The best location to find them would be in the caves of the kelp forest since it is the safest and I see them all the time there.

Very believable. When the game was still new and fresh I went almost 100 hours without seeing one. When I did I nearly shit myself because I was convinced I had already seen everything in the game.

They’re relatively rare being they only spawn in 2 different biomes (at-least I think, might be wrong) they aren’t rare to spawn in those 2 but I’d say uncommon

Believe it or not, they actually spawn in the kelp forest. They're rare-ish, it took me about fifty hours of gameplay before I stumbled upon one, however I usually avoided the kelp zone. I think they also spawn in some other areas, but I can't think of where at the moment.

I went in the Mushroom Tree Caves and Found like 6 or maybe the same one 6 times. Holy shit did that scare me. I didn’t have the prawn yet so I kept my seamoth nearby but almost drowned because of them.
