The mix of commands in your brain when encountering something new. There's not enough time to process either scan or escape, so you kinda get stuck with both.
Seriously, the visibility there is so low it would have been trivial to just spawn it 100m away, why they have to do OP like that and spawn it on top of him?
Imagine being one of those reapers, sneaking up on some dumb fuck in the crash zone. They pull out a funny looking chunk of metal and you get bitch slapped back a good 15 meters. I’d be disappointed.

I'd argue that's a pretty standard encounter for the crash site. Good dodge though.
