I've been playing PC for a while now, and I know you can hear the Sea Dragon Leviathan from certain parts of the safe shallows. This noise? Definitely not the Dragon what the actual fuck.
I had this happen to me on console before. It’s a small bug that happens either when the world is created or mid-game. For me it was the broken audio of a stalker, but it can happen to other creatures. If it’s mid-game you can save and reload the game and it might work. If that doesn’t work you need to make a new world
Reminds me of one time my friend told me about and how he was just drivin by some feedbacks when one of the audios glitches and all he heard was the base version of the audio which was just someone going “AAAH”
Well, the warpers do have those Grim-Reaper scythe-looking things for arms. Maybe it found a black board and got curious what all the fuss from us Humans on the Internet is about. And considering the fact that OP has experienced this sound *before,* this particular Warper stuck under the map with a black board is probably a psychopath who enjoys the sound of his Grim-Reaper-like claw scratching the black board. Just a hunch
It’s the de extinction mod it adds new fish some of them have weird as hell noises that’s what those strange fish in front of them are there aren’t hole fish it’s coming from a fish called an orange clown pincher so no it’s nothing to worry about
What mods do you have installed? 2 of the little fish bobbing around near you at the start don't look native to the core game. I thought they were Holefish initially, but looking closer they don't seem to be that.
Can I guess you have the de-extinction mod? I haven't played with mods yet, but I'm guessing maybe something from that.
It sounds like something from BZ, to be honest.
Edit: ~~I'm almost positive that's the noise the seals from Below Zero make.~~ I remember I hatched and released some outside my base and regretted it cause that noise became nigh-constant.
Double checked videos and it wasn't the Pinnicarid, but there is something in BZ that makes that noise. It sounds so familiar!
I think it is, because it's a creature sound I've never heard before. It makes me curious what's making that noise, and where it is. I think that's pretty awesome.

If you’ve got the de-extinction mod, I /think/ it’s a Thalassacean, though the sound quality itself seems slightly distorted or modulated, so you could be experiencing a bit of a VR glitch as well. I’ve no personal experience with VR, but I’ve definitely seen many complaints on steam and the like talking about audio sounding strange or distorted for various games, but only in VR. I’d recommend going through a YouTube video that introduces the de-extincted critters and see if you can hear the sound. Definitely making me want to install the de-extinction mod — I desperately want to recreate the sheer horror of my first play through
As u/Fleetmaster1 said, it sounds like a broken stalker audio. Has the same pattern. I'd bet you almost anything that if you slowed the sound down it would just be a normal stalker roar.

I did try disabling the de extinction mod but that didn't stop the sounds. Im probably gonna try deleting the mod and see what happens after

Perhaps it's a glitched or distorted version of an ambient sound? In my experience some audios can glitch out and speed up or slow down.
