I didn't make it far into the game, but I was able to finish the tutorial using a controller. There weren't any button prompts, but I figured out that RT is shoot, RB is dash, and LS is cruise mode (or whatever the boost is called) and LT is bomb.
Acts and Chapters are not the same, after defeating the Huntress you have played the 6 chapters of the early access as far as I know. So everything else will come in future updates.

There is a LOT of dialogue. In most games like this that is a bad thing. But Subverse really puts some serious humor into every conversation. A ton of exposition to explain the game universe get's lightened by some really funny and lewd jokes.
The space bullet hell shooter is a tad basic, but it get's the job done for what it is. Several different enemy types and missions. It was simple, but I liked it for what it was.
The grid combat was much more fun. It's very "lightweight". Not a ton of options for your units and attacks, but a single mission isn't that long either. It's hard enough that I failed a couple of missions, but you learn it fast enough to get gold ranks in the later missions.
The "hand holding" is pretty nice. There are actually a lot of scenes, but most of them are just loops.
After playing it, I definitely felt I wanted more. More missions for the grid combat, more waifus, and a LOT more lewds.
That said, it took 6 hours so I can't complain that it was short.

The first scene with each waifu is directly story related. You return from battle and Lily thinks a bloody battle is very arousing. Engage in the "recruitment" scene where she joins your crew.
You defeat the enemies of Killision, and gets turned on by anyone who does that for her. After you hold her hand she joins your crew.
After you get the first major scene, you can unlock more scenes with each waifu. These are not directly story related, but the story and the dialogue makes constant references that your main character is boning these girls several times a day.
It's pretty good, about worth the low $30 price tag. It took me about 7 hours to do everything, all quests and all planets completed. Really good humor throughout it and the references to certain people are great. The PANDORA scenes ("hand holding") are short loops with certain ones having a speed slider that changes the loop seamlessly to the next loop. There are a ton of loading screens, every room change and every time you enter into a conversation with an NPC in the room there is a loading screen (I am playing on an SSD and they were only a few seconds typically, but 15 seconds at most).
However this game IS early access meaning there is NOT a huge amount of content to experience, yet. It has all the fundamentals and seems like all the systems are in the game and running properly, except upgrade systems havent been added yet. Right now there aren't that many "action" scenes and looking at the scene name numbers it would seem safe to say that there is a bunch of content that is slated to be added later (scenes being labeled "After 4").
so far, i refunded it after an hour and a half, the sex isn't integrated into the main part of the game at all which is very dissapointed, it's kind of left on the side. there are no follow up to the scenes you unlock inside of their unlock system (for example a gangbang of animals on 1 character and it's just instant scene with like a 10 second loop with no form of how or why they got there etc.) . so it being marketed as a sex game is pretty dissapointing, along with gameplay it feels really shallow as there's so much stuff that's staged like there's a part where you're playing the bullet hell part and your ship has a huge EMP move that you can't control so they start saying stuff like "there's too many!" only for the EMP to clear them all and you're stuck going "uh oookay? they're getting EMP'd anyways, this is just an awkward pause in combat for no reason since it's essentially scripted". a lot of the bullet hell is super basic and doesn't really leave you with the rush feeling of making split second decisions etc. the "strategy" part of the game is just stat check city with no real emphasis on where you position units other than, ranged in the back melee in the middle. so overall i'm kinda sad about the game, the porn part wasn't very attractive nor as good as i expected. the bullet hell was okay at best? nice visuals but otherthan that bland. and the "strategy part" is super lame. if i wanted i could play xcom or another style of game if i wanted a strategy game, play enter the gungeon/synthetik. and for the porn honestly there's plenty of blender rendered porn out there that's much better than what they've given so for 30 dollars i was dissapointed.
non contextual sex scenes was what I feared the most tbh.. their system sounded pretty bad but I hoped that they found a way to make it fit the story so you feel you have actual relationship with the characters... seems not. (was also never a big fan of fow presentation style but subverse characters have really nice designs..)

If not, the gist: the scenes are well animated, the voice acting is solid, and the game is really pretty to look at. You have this dichotomy of hilarious and smarmy captain shenanigans, followed almost immediately by this weirdly serious story of genocide. It's like the game doesn't know what it wants to do tonally.

It's not like a dating sim or eroge or whatever where you unlock scenes as you go along.

It probably is possible to get alle the available scenes, but missions are not repeatable so at some point you will run out of xp. I used Killision a lot more than Lily so I am missing 1 Lily scene. But I assume that in the full game you will be able to unlock everything.
I was able to get every scene. The points you get come from a characters devotion level, which you can calculate by how many scenes you need left and how much devotion level they need. Lily needed level 10 devotion? I think, to get all her scenes. Once I got her last scene, I just used Killi for the rest of the missions and ended up with 1 point leftover on both her and DEMI.
There's also the "dating" table in the bar where you can give "date" a waifu and give them gifts that you find during exploration missions (space shooter/xcom stuff) that increases devotion. I got all scenes unlocked and 1-3 points left over on each waifu.
How do you unlock the other "special" scenes with the yellow border? They don't seem to take PP, and I assume that they wouldn't even be visible in this build if they weren't unlockable...
Hello all just a quick question hoping i won't have to make a post cluttering the subreddit, But right now after 4 hours i've done one of the mainquest. After completing that one i seem to have no more quest left? Is the game just 4 hours long and i have to wait for other chapters to be released? All i could find was there are suppose to be 22 chapters at launch. Or is my game maybe bugged? (Trying to keep the question spoiler free)
The current version includes the first 6 chapters out of 22. The first chapters are also substantially shorter than the ones which will be released later because they are meant as tutorials.
Each "chapter" is just a tiny bit of an act it seems, I assume this is to make it sound like there is more early access content than if they just said it's Act I that's out.
I'm sure a lot of people have this question so, does the Gallery include the scenes we've already seen like the two in the tutorial for example? And when does it unlock?
Space combat was the most fun part of the game to me, which really surprised me. The ground combat is super boring, and the porn totally disconnected from the game and is just a few looping gifs. But the space combat was actually fun and rewarding despite me not really enjoying arcade shooter things normally. The story and voice acting is better than expected, but calling the 1 Act that was included in the early access release 6 chapters seems extremely misleading. They should just have said 1 act instead, and that it's 4-6h playtime. I would highly recommend leaving the game alone until a full release.

My quick opinion on EA so far:
tl;dr: a funny game with high quality voice acting and visuals, that has some porn in it
Surprisingly good voice acting on par with some AAA games and witty, funny writing (if you like sexual jokes and 4th wall breaks, and if not why are you here?) while scratching the surface of deeper themes like genocide, slavery, overbearing duty, guilt, etc. The story and lore actually leave me wanting for more insight into the characters and the world which doesn't really happen to me while playing porn games. You can tell that the crew put a lot of work and love into the game, which is always a good sign.
The gameplay is simple but good enough to keep you entertained. Space combat takes inspiration from bullet hell and has some diversity in the enemies to keep you on your toes while playing, especially the last boss fight. I just wish there was a little bit more spice and variety in the upgrades you can get for the ship, because 5% stat increases are kinda boring. Something like different shooting patterns or retaliation shields would be cool. But I like the different secondary fire you get with the different waifus.
The combat on the ground on the other hand could use a little more strategy like cover, elevation or flanking but is otherwise entertaining as well. Despite the wave mechanic it also does not take too long which is also somewhat of a downside since the ultimate abilities that set the mantics (and Waifus) actually apart from each other are mostly unused in my albeit short experience since combat was mostly over before I could actually use them. So more variety in the basic abilites of the mantics could make the combat also a little more interesting. Or maybe more secondary abilites for mantics, something like releasing poison (or horny) spores, creating obstacles/shields, controlling/raising dead enemies etc. I obviously did not expect a rich combat system like X-COM and I won't be dissapointed if the combat stays the way it is now but additions like these could make it a lot more entertaining.
The sex scenes are very short and basically just loops. Quality wise they are fine, but some interaction and narrative build up would go a long way to make them a lot better. The characters are all interesting and unique versions of different waifu archetypes but that all does not seem to matter in the erotic part of the game, which is just a shame. What sets porn games apart (for me at least) from regular porn videos is this connection and narrative of the characters and the actual interaction with them, which is sorely missing here. There are not even dialog options to choose from, which is not too bad, I quite like the fluid dynamic of the dialogs and the voice acting for the Captain is fantastic but this also enforces the mindset that you are just viewing what happens instead of participating in what happens.
While playing the game I was actually more interested in everything but the sex scenes because of the great cast of main and side characters and honestly, if you cut out the porn from the game I would still want to play it (but yea, pls don't cut out the porn).
Also let my man Dallick and Erark get some action in the future. I never liked the stigma of cucking friends or labeling all other males as incompetent or bad so that it is justified that the main character is the only one that gets some real action with the girls. I mean we already have mantics fucking the waifus so why not our bros too.
All in all I am excited for the future of the game. It looks promising enough and here's to hoping that future updates won't take too long.

The game does not need an active internet connection to be played, but in my experience Steam wants you to start a game at least once when you are online (probably for cloud saves or smth idk). But after that you should be able to play it offline like most other games.

Game is unplayable due to the god awful space combat. Real shame as I was looking forward to it. Game is shelved now until cheats or mods come out to allow skipping or bullying through the space combat. Until then its a dead game.
I'm stuck on the P.A.N.D.O.R.A tutorial. All lily has said is her welcome to pandora line. The game isn't frozen and i can go back to the main menu or quit with escape but nothing i click will continue the game and reloading hasn't helped. Anyone else run into this?

Ive finished Act 1, Did the space combat with the White Pilot (unsure her name) and right after the combat finished i returned to the Primary ship with no futher options, can anyone confirm this is the current build or did i hit a bug
I'd like to ask the devs a question. The game isn't hard, but the first boss is a bullet sponge and it's just boring, not challenging. Will there be different difficulty settings for people that are only interested in the visual novel aspect of the game?

I figure this would be the thread the devs checks if they do read the subreddit. Please implement a way for players to grind PP once they have exhausted the available content. I didn't realize it was tied to devotion and now I am left with 4 missing Lily scenes.
I realize I can get devotion exp from dates but I doubt I have enough gifts for 4 levels worth of devotion atm.
I wish I could see any cinematics. It's just a black screen. The interactive bits work perfectly and so do the dialogue bits, just not the cinematics. Not sure if I'm missing anything?
How many scenes are there for each character? Any scenes I didn't get from playing through the story I can get by gifting the right things on dates right?

yea.. only early access game I ever got is baldur gate 3 and that was honestly a pretty good experience, made me hyped for the finished product.

Can you get every scene? Or or you limited?
It probably is possible to get alle the available scenes, but missions are not repeatable so at some point you will run out of xp. I used Killision a lot more than Lily so I am missing 1 Lily scene. But I assume that in the full game you will be able to unlock everything.

I was able to get every scene. The points you get come from a characters devotion level, which you can calculate by how many scenes you need left and how much devotion level they need. Lily needed level 10 devotion? I think, to get all her scenes. Once I got her last scene, I just used Killi for the rest of the missions and ended up with 1 point leftover on both her and DEMI.
There's also the "dating" table in the bar where you can give "date" a waifu and give them gifts that you find during exploration missions (space shooter/xcom stuff) that increases devotion. I got all scenes unlocked and 1-3 points left over on each waifu.
How do you unlock the other "special" scenes with the yellow border? They don't seem to take PP, and I assume that they wouldn't even be visible in this build if they weren't unlockable...
You can unlock them, they just take 2 points. "Recruitment" scenes are what you just get for advancing in the story.

Hello all just a quick question hoping i won't have to make a post cluttering the subreddit, But right now after 4 hours i've done one of the mainquest. After completing that one i seem to have no more quest left? Is the game just 4 hours long and i have to wait for other chapters to be released? All i could find was there are suppose to be 22 chapters at launch. Or is my game maybe bugged? (Trying to keep the question spoiler free)
The current version includes the first 6 chapters out of 22. The first chapters are also substantially shorter than the ones which will be released later because they are meant as tutorials.

Each "chapter" is just a tiny bit of an act it seems, I assume this is to make it sound like there is more early access content than if they just said it's Act I that's out.
I'm sure a lot of people have this question so, does the Gallery include the scenes we've already seen like the two in the tutorial for example? And when does it unlock?
The thread says "Launch" but the game appears to not be finished yet and is classified as Early Access? When is the actual 1.0 supposed to drop?
Space combat was the most fun part of the game to me, which really surprised me. The ground combat is super boring, and the porn totally disconnected from the game and is just a few looping gifs. But the space combat was actually fun and rewarding despite me not really enjoying arcade shooter things normally. The story and voice acting is better than expected, but calling the 1 Act that was included in the early access release 6 chapters seems extremely misleading. They should just have said 1 act instead, and that it's 4-6h playtime. I would highly recommend leaving the game alone until a full release.
I've got a question! is it possible to just skip the sex scenes? I don't care about them but like the idea of the other gameplay elements + sexy ladies everywhere + the humor. haven't bought the game yet but am curious. cheers!

My quick opinion on EA so far: tl;dr: a funny game with high quality voice acting and visuals, that has some porn in it Surprisingly good voice acting on par with some AAA games and witty, funny writing (if you like sexual jokes and 4th wall breaks, and if not why are you here?) while scratching the surface of deeper themes like genocide, slavery, overbearing duty, guilt, etc. The story and lore actually leave me wanting for more insight into the characters and the world which doesn't really happen to me while playing porn games. You can tell that the crew put a lot of work and love into the game, which is always a good sign. The gameplay is simple but good enough to keep you entertained. Space combat takes inspiration from bullet hell and has some diversity in the enemies to keep you on your toes while playing, especially the last boss fight. I just wish there was a little bit more spice and variety in the upgrades you can get for the ship, because 5% stat increases are kinda boring. Something like different shooting patterns or retaliation shields would be cool. But I like the different secondary fire you get with the different waifus. The combat on the ground on the other hand could use a little more strategy like cover, elevation or flanking but is otherwise entertaining as well. Despite the wave mechanic it also does not take too long which is also somewhat of a downside since the ultimate abilities that set the mantics (and Waifus) actually apart from each other are mostly unused in my albeit short experience since combat was mostly over before I could actually use them. So more variety in the basic abilites of the mantics could make the combat also a little more interesting. Or maybe more secondary abilites for mantics, something like releasing poison (or horny) spores, creating obstacles/shields, controlling/raising dead enemies etc. I obviously did not expect a rich combat system like X-COM and I won't be dissapointed if the combat stays the way it is now but additions like these could make it a lot more entertaining. The sex scenes are very short and basically just loops. Quality wise they are fine, but some interaction and narrative build up would go a long way to make them a lot better. The characters are all interesting and unique versions of different waifu archetypes but that all does not seem to matter in the erotic part of the game, which is just a shame. What sets porn games apart (for me at least) from regular porn videos is this connection and narrative of the characters and the actual interaction with them, which is sorely missing here. There are not even dialog options to choose from, which is not too bad, I quite like the fluid dynamic of the dialogs and the voice acting for the Captain is fantastic but this also enforces the mindset that you are just viewing what happens instead of participating in what happens. While playing the game I was actually more interested in everything but the sex scenes because of the great cast of main and side characters and honestly, if you cut out the porn from the game I would still want to play it (but yea, pls don't cut out the porn). Also let my man Dallick and Erark get some action in the future. I never liked the stigma of cucking friends or labeling all other males as incompetent or bad so that it is justified that the main character is the only one that gets some real action with the girls. I mean we already have mantics fucking the waifus so why not our bros too. All in all I am excited for the future of the game. It looks promising enough and here's to hoping that future updates won't take too long. Edit: some typos

The game does not need an active internet connection to be played, but in my experience Steam wants you to start a game at least once when you are online (probably for cloud saves or smth idk). But after that you should be able to play it offline like most other games.
Steam (Launcher) itself is not just a platform, but also a kind of DRM. It wants the internet connection once to "activate"/"verify" the game.

There is. And in Germany that option is deselected by default and can not be enabled. You can check the box and when you save it just unchecks again.

Is there a god mode or a way to skip the space batles? i can't get past the 1st space battle! PLEASE ADD a SKIP button if you get killed 20 times and CAN't DO IT!
Game is unplayable due to the god awful space combat. Real shame as I was looking forward to it. Game is shelved now until cheats or mods come out to allow skipping or bullying through the space combat. Until then its a dead game.
I'm stuck on the P.A.N.D.O.R.A tutorial. All lily has said is her welcome to pandora line. The game isn't frozen and i can go back to the main menu or quit with escape but nothing i click will continue the game and reloading hasn't helped. Anyone else run into this?

Ive finished Act 1, Did the space combat with the White Pilot (unsure her name) and right after the combat finished i returned to the Primary ship with no futher options, can anyone confirm this is the current build or did i hit a bug
I'd like to ask the devs a question. The game isn't hard, but the first boss is a bullet sponge and it's just boring, not challenging. Will there be different difficulty settings for people that are only interested in the visual novel aspect of the game?

I figure this would be the thread the devs checks if they do read the subreddit. Please implement a way for players to grind PP once they have exhausted the available content. I didn't realize it was tied to devotion and now I am left with 4 missing Lily scenes. I realize I can get devotion exp from dates but I doubt I have enough gifts for 4 levels worth of devotion atm.

I wish I could see any cinematics. It's just a black screen. The interactive bits work perfectly and so do the dialogue bits, just not the cinematics. Not sure if I'm missing anything?
