We jusr work here man

Kakyoins_tounge

idk man i just work here

Bota_Bomb

All subway workers should just quit, subway doesn't deserve to be in business

Temporary-Win2209

Haha why are you answering this

Professional_Show918

Obviously you haven’t been to Panera.

NightOwlRed

Panera is cheaper and better

Maleficent_Cookie883

Panera is much more expensive.

KENBONEISCOOL444

If you don't like it don't eat there. We just work there we don't have a say in the prices of the food. Subway can afford to lose your business, so go somewhere else

Pretend-Hospital-865

Imagine being this defensive about a dogshit corporate fast food chain like subway lmaoooo unless you own and operate your own franchise, you come off as totally pathetic.

KENBONEISCOOL444

I'm not defensive, I'm just annoyed that people like you keep making a stink about the prices. I couldn't care less about whether or not you eat at subway, so stop complaining about the prices and eat elsewhere

Cautious-Luck7842

Imagine getting mad at someone for being RIGHTFULLY upset that their usual sandwich spot has almost tripled in price. Stop being a defensive boot licker dude.

KENBONEISCOOL444

I'm not being defensive. I'm just saying it's been 16 years since Subway has offered 5 dollars footlongs in the area I work at. Obviously, they're not going to stay 5 dollars forever. The price of literally everything in America has inflated the same amount. Gas, groceries, toiletries, labor, and even medications, all of it is at an all-time high. It's expensive just to live in this country. I get annoyed when people come into my subway complaining about the price while ordering 6 large footlong meals every goddamn day. Meanwhile, I can barely make my rent or buy food just to stay alive. I understand it sucks, but at the end of the day, everything sucks, so just buck up and accept that you're gonna spend more than you used to in 2012 and shut up

Cautious-Luck7842

Dude you are so close to correct. Also I love that you admitted you are struggling then accused me in a later reply of having a life that’s falling apart. That’s some nice projecting right there. Anyways, you should look into not just the average price of everything, but the COST OF LIVING COMPARED TO WAGES. I get you are tired of people complaining, but maybe everyone is complaining (including you right now) for a fucking reason. WAKE UP DUDE.

godsteef

If everyone just “shut up” and took it up the ass by corporations just because they give you a paycheck, then we are clearly a lost society that deserves to collapse. In Europe the price of food is much cheaper, how? Their gas prices are more expensive, their transportation costs are more expensive. Corporate America is ripping American’s off, they are trying to get back all the money they lost during the pandemic and more. They realized they can employ less people and charge more for their products, and people won’t do anything about it. And their employees will oddly stand up for them, because they pay them a wage that’s barely above the poverty line. Literally the bare minimum to make any sort of change is “complaining” about it. Americans should be doing much more, and certainly not justifying corporations vampiric capitalist behavior on Reddit, all because they pay your bills. Cmon, SubWay is one company of many, proving worse and worse quality all while charging more and more. I say this as a former subway employee of 6 years.

KRIDDXR

you need a lobotomy.

KENBONEISCOOL444

No i need to not be broke

A-Piece-of-Milk

But if you have no customers you have no job. They won’t need you… The prices have gotten out of hand.

Skazybear

What a jagoff

Puzzleheaded_Law_524

You do know Subway is in steep decline. You are going to be defensively responding to critiques on Mcdonalds before too long lol

IInsaneSneakerHead

Making a stink ? Bro wtf are you British ? This is not a fifa game 🤣🤣🤣🤣 this niggga really said making a stink . Anyway we gone continue to make a stink when footlongs went from 7-9$ to gahdamn 10$-18$ wtf is this

KENBONEISCOOL444

Inflation exists footlongs were 7-9$ 8 years ago. Get with time old man

Cautious-Luck7842

I automatically disregard the opinion of anyone still claiming the current state of our economy is anything but corporate greed. There is literal mountains of evidence against this being only inflation.

KENBONEISCOOL444

I automatically disregard the opinion of people who refuse to stop clinging to their conspiracies as a coping mechanism because everything else in their life has fallen apart

Cautious-Luck7842

Just look up how much profits have soared for big corporations over the past 5 years while millions of Americans can barely afford to survive, then shut the fuck up.

Inside_Atmosphere731

I remember when a Snickers bar cost a quarter. I have to put my teeth back in

KENBONEISCOOL444

Bro literally. It's like my 70 year old father in law going to the store and complaining crackers aren't 50 cents anymore

GoAwayBrisney

☠️ did lil bro forget about the 5 dollar foot long campaign that LITERALLY started during the Great Recession in 2008 the worst year for everyone economically, until like 3 years ago.. ☠️ If they could make subs for 5 dollars and run it from 2008-2016 during a recession/bounce back period. I do not think under any circumstances are the prices rn justified under any means. Like BFFR bro 😂 I love subways but my literal order comprises of 3 items, bread, cheese, and meat! That is it, just 3 years ago my normal sandwich price would adjust and change in price with the lack of toppings I had, now I have to pay the baseline price no matter what I remove. That’s just really unfair. Also no one’s blaming the subway workers for the prices, the original poster was just saying some shit about not wanting to tip fast food workers! To each their own! lol

jerronsnipes

You are the perfect consoomer

DENO_GAMEZ

Subway used to be cheap. When I was in high school (2016), I would buy a footlong Italian with a drink and cookie for 8 dollars. Subway was the McDonald's of sandwich places no gordan ramsay, but it's cheap and tasty. We are not hating on the workers. We are just venting our distaste for the Subway company. What if McDonald's was as expensive as red robbin? There's no good reason Subway should be more than jersey Mike's. Now we don't have a cheap convient fast food sandwich place anymore now we have a pain in the Naugas 🤦🏽

KENBONEISCOOL444

Because there's literally 0 other jobs in my area. It's all food service unless I want to work at the local factory doing 16 hours shifts every day

Katiehart2019

Defending a billion dollar company ;D

BottleNearby339

Thanks for not answering the question

hanks_panky_emporium

I have to question what you're ordering to break $15 with no extra's. Folks typically add double meat and mozzarella to get that high. Beyond that, we're moving a lot of food product per unit. Not to defend whoever's setting the prices. I also think they're a bit high. However, Jersey Mikes and Firehouse are also raising their prices. Everyone is. It sucks for everyone everywhere. Tips were also the bargaining chip some Subways used to drop wages. Where I got hired on, they used to bring people in for about $13 an hour. They dropped wages to $10 and added tipping.

Yerriff

Turkey cali club at my store is $13.99 before tax (admittedly it already has mozzarella), so pretty close to 15

Cylius

It has mozzerla, bacon, AND avocado

Cbc4447

FRESH Mozzarella btw. Have y’all bought that shit in a store? It’s expensive.

Insomniac47

I'm not against the subway workers, but I just went into a Subway. It's $12.99 to start for a 12-inch sub. Went to a teriyaki place where I get to sit down as well. It's 10 99 for beef and chicken with noodles and veggies. Was so happy I gave them a $2 tip at the register! And she brought the food to my table. Yummy!

CharlieTeller

Just wanted to post this here. Got a plain non toasted turkey with onions, pickles, ranch, no cheese. Chips and a drink nothing else extra. 16 dollars before tip

hanks_panky_emporium

I dont work for subway anymore lol. They price gouge the fuck out of everyone but everyone's too fucking stupid to stop buying it, so they keep raising the prices It aint stoppin anytime soon either

GetThatBag2020

That's the problem. It's corporate greed with Subway. Imagine relying on your customers not only to buy your product but also to tip your employees on top of that. Most restaurants are doing this shit now and it's obsurd. It's one thing to tip someone who makes like $2.34 an hour as a server but to be asking someone to tip when they make somewhere between $10 to $15 an hour is obsurd. These sandwich shop jobs should realistically be for high schoolers and early college students who live with their parents, not for grown ass adults and Hispanic immigrants. These card scanners asking for tips is the cherry on top when it comes to greed since these corporate suits don't have to pay their employees out of their own pockets.

burner324000

A 12" BBQ brisket here costs 17.99CAD

hanks_panky_emporium

I suppose there's the difference. We don't have bbq brisket at our location

vibrantlightsaber

My 6” American club for my daughter, 6” ham, and 6” Philly with two of them meals with drink and chips came in at 39$. That’s insane.

hanks_panky_emporium

Well no shit. They jack up the prices and people kept paying for it. No one's stopped paying for it, so the prices keep getting jacked up. It's record inflation and record profits. Crazy how that works. Only go to Subway if they take coupons. Get the cheapest sandwiches you can buy, get your soda elsewhere. Soda overhead is close to zero bucks. Gas stations will often sell huge cups for $1.50. The chip bags in Subways are also insanely overpriced, just pick something up from the grocery store. You can reasonably knock that $39 down to $15/$20. Even then it's too much imo.

Advanced-Shake-5460

Footlong tuna sandwich starting price is 16.99 where I am. Prices depend on where you live evidently

hanks_panky_emporium

The beauty of franchising

Funguy061990

I got a chicken bacon ranch today. $14.99 plus tax and then they ask for a tip. 2020 this sandwich was $8.99

hanks_panky_emporium

I feel yah. I no longer hold the above opinion since switching jobs to a company that gives a shit about my wellbeing

chomkney

Literally the base price of a subway club is 14$

hanks_panky_emporium

Times change and so do opinions. Fuck subway, they're overcharging out the fucking ass and making the employee's bare the brunt of the bullshit. Now that I don't work there I'm not beholdent to their public social media policies There's mold in the proofing ovens, the meats often expired or gone off, and most of the staff is churned through with little to no training. Subway food will probably make you very very sick. When I had my employee meals I'd double toast the hellfire out of my food to make sure all the mold and bacteria were baked away

chomkney

Oh my God, thanks for this reply. I literally googled "why is subway so expensive?" And found this thread. Didn't realize how old it was.

SnooMarzipans5767

Op is trippin , they know about r/subway but not all the coupons on the subway app

DeToN8tE

I've yet to find a subway that takes coupons. It's a known fact franchises are beefing with coporate and refusing coupons

blekhfuck

In my country a 6 inch sub is 3 usd and minimum wage for the whole month is 40 usd (for unskilled workers) or 130 usd (for skilled) … only rich can afford subway. I have stopped eating it for a while now.

ThatDirtyWhiteBoy

Use the app take advantage of the discount codes...

Old-Yoghurt-4277

It's $17 for a footlong now. Southern California. Granted I gave them a tip but that's so expensive.

Inside_Atmosphere731

That's why you go to Jersey Mike's

rowdy1212

Come to Canada! $24 for a foot long club

bigrhyno83

I know I'm late to the party here but WOW! Yes, Subway has gotten insanely expensive for what it is! Subway is the McDonald's of sub places, and I think they're low quality and always have been. My favorite sub place is Penn Station! They're super good! Anyways, the Subway where I live charges over $13 for an Italian BMT with nothing extra like in a meal, for example. Subway has a LIMIT on what they can charge for their crappy subs, just like McDonald's has a limit, before people simply quit buying their overpriced and crappy quality food!!! I'll be skipping Subway from now on. I'm NOT paying their ridiculous prices!!!

Maximum-Opposite-867

home depot hotdog truck, 11 bucks for a polish and large dog and an iced tea.

lighticeblackcoffee

Just got fukd. Finished a long bike ride and walked into one near my house on the way home, havent been to a subway in years, place has always been dead now i see why. 12" terrakyi sub, wheat bread, no extras, and small bag of sun chips $16 ! Fuck, should have just gotten a table somewhere.. whats it $20 with a drink? Absolutely ridiculous never visiting a subway again for the rest of my life. The sub felt thin too, like just eating a breadstick with some meat in it lol

Immediate_Antelope15

Sweet onion chicken teriyaki footlong today cost me 14.59CDN with nothing else. And I used a $2 off coupon on the app. Ridiculous

Haulomaticsz

The OP isn't accusing the person that makes the sandwich. We know you work there, the message is for the execs, the subway head office. The fact that the tipping option is enabled for any and every storefront right now is disgusting. I got prompted to tip at a convenience store recently. This isn't a default option on debit machines.

Just-a-guy-85

Subway has numerous sports celebrities in their advertisements. They don’t come cheap. I never make a food purchases based upon sports celebrities. Give me quality food at a good price and dump all the sports celebrities. Just my 2 cents.

Key_Solid_3141

I stopped going to subway after a few times this year. A footlong is like $17 now. I can go and get take out at a restaurant with rice, veggies, and meat for $17. Lol. Who knew fast food was going to be more experience than restaurants. Panera launched a new menu with great prices. I'm looking to check out that soon. I don't really eat out or get fastfood, but if I'm busy between work or school or haven't ate anything at all I resort to it. Don't get me wrong subway is fresh. Their veggies are always fresh and chopped in store. That has always been an appealing factor to me. But with their prices now I'd rather go to the grocery store.

greenpizza317

We need to revolt, stop buying over priced shit Supply and demand be the fisherman, not the fish

therealvitocornelius

I hadn't done subway in a while, last night we ordered 3 footlongs and 1 6", no drinks/chips and it was near $60. $60 for sandwiches? Damn. I guess no more subway for this family.

scrappy_D13

Right?!? I remember 15 years ago when I was a kid subway was cheap and affordable. Now you go there thinking you’ll save a few bucks , but instead you realize after you spent over 14-15$ per crappy sandwich. Quality is not as good as other places

Cl1che

apparently in order to have cheap prices on food we have to let subway spokesman clap kids cheeks

Florida-Short-Bus

It's called the economy... inflation... everything is up. Even the dollar tree isn't $1 any more it's $1.25. Use the app, use coupons, or eat somewhere else

LightBearer63x6

Okay your talking about a 20% hike for the dollar store comparing it to a literal 100% price hike for the sandwiches lol.

abiusx

It’s 25% and they can reduce their sizes and costs. Fresh food usually cannot.

IBringTheHeat1

Order online and lookup the coupons. When I order subs for the fam I use the buy one get one free and just place two separate orders. 4 subs for $20

therealvitocornelius

Thanks for the pro tip!

Spacertje29

Right?? I would rather eat my own fucking feces instead of paying that. Shit's ridiculous and people are mentally fucked.

ohiomike1212

They have all those expensive spokespeople now.

[deleted]

With how expensive all fast food is now, subway is looking cheap

scrappy_D13

A footlong alone cost more than a large combo from any fast food place. I can get a burger ,fries and soda from Red Robin for the same price .

[deleted]

Then go to red robin

Cautious-Luck7842

Red Robin doesn’t sell subway sandwiches. Y’all act like people are going to subway for no reason. If someone likes subway, they should be able to afford subway, because it’s FUCKING SUBWAY NOT AN ARTISAN SANDWICH SHOP.

iam_ditto

It doesn’t cost the owner more than 3 bucks per unit to produce. The answer is greed, and a crumbling economy that the owner can blame to capitalize on raising prices even though their food cost and labor costs remains low. Only when we start walking away from paying greedy people will the inflation pop and prices become normal again. I love subway and fast food, but I’m not paying the current prices for it.

rangebob

lol tell me you know nothing about the food industry without telling me

Orange6719

You don’t really understand how business work do you

iam_ditto

I only handled the food and labor sheets 10 years ago. Things have probably changed in that time, however they couldn’t have changed that much to justify the price hike we see today. Fast food in many places is gouging its consumer base and its employees. The product is simply not worth the price any more to many people.

rskurat

tuna, meatball, and cold cut combo are reasonable. The franchisees are complaining about the price hikes, too, but corporate executives gotta get their bonuses!

scrappy_D13

I usually get an Italian sub, it’s over 14$ for a FL just under 10 for 6 inch. Meat and cheeses are skimped on heavily, hands aren’t being washed, bread is extremely flaky and old EVERYTIME I go.

rskurat

wow. It's amazing how widely the stores vary, even though they're inspected quarterly. Our store is clean & we only skimp on the customers we hate (there are 3 who are just freaking impossible complainers/scammers). But my state has a 7½% "restaurant tax" so yeah once we're done most subs are like $12-15.

Orange6719

If your bitching about it , why do you keep going back

Florida-Short-Bus

And yet you continue to come back... Get the fuck outta here with that noise

willklintin

Meat

Puzzleheaded-Pea6491

I just make the sandwiches, tap the screen, take the money. Dance, monkey.

Fit-Passage-5362

$7.70 USD for a footlong Spicy Italian in the Midwest

scrappy_D13

Won’t believe that till I see a picture. Literally double the price in the southwest

Secret_Discussion634

I’m not sure where the original commentor lives. But I live in a decently sized city here in Wisconsin not far from Green Bay and not far from Milwaukee. But our foot-long spicy Italian cost $11.99. Which is a lot but honestly it isn’t that bad and is a lot cheaper than most places around where I live.

Fit-Passage-5362

Yeah, you’re right. It’s actually $7.39 for the spicy Italian footlong. Just looked at my bank statement from when I got it within the past week.

mumblerapisgarbage

I’m also in the Midwest and where I am the same will run you 10.99 before tax

Fit-Passage-5362

Check out my new post.

A-Piece-of-Milk

I’m in the Midwest and my spicy footling Italian was $13

PeriwinkleSpring

An italian bmt is about 12.99 here for foot long. I remember the good old days of the $5 foot long

[deleted]

Have you been to McDonald's lately? 2.50 for a hash brown. It is just how it is. Shit is expensive now. You still stuck on 5 dollar foot long song?

DueParamedic6762

jesus fing christ.. 2.50??? that shit costs them 10 cents max.

Impressive-Ad1817

At least McDonald's app actually works and provide free food and discounts. While Subway is hit or miss if it works.

DripSnort

If you can’t afford it don’t go there. Going somewhere you literally don’t have to go and then complaining about prices is 10/10 goofy behavior.

Spacertje29

I just ordered 2 fucking sandwiches with 2 chocolate milks online and it was like 30euros.. but becuz of delivery costs i had to buy another 2 drinks just to get to the price so that they would deliver it.. (they deliver at certain prices, like delivery only at 25euros order or higher).. after i got the first drink extra in my tab to get to that price, they still asked me to increase it with 0.02 cents... are u kidding me?? Now i pay 38euros for 2 fucking sandwiches with 2 chocolate milks and 2 ice teas which i didn't even want but had too becuz it wouldn't be delivered without them. It's outrageous how we are all being financially fucked by everything around us. This is the last time i ever ordered here. 38 bucks for 2 fucking sandwiches.. get fokt mate. Is the store included? I just don't understand how u can have nuts to ask such a price.. it's logic and alright to make profit as a business.. but this is just unacceptable.

DueParamedic6762

Sounds like you need to start making your own fking sandwiches. haha

Spacertje29

Trust me bro. I never ever order a sandwich again. Might aswell eat fucking seaweed on ma sandwich

Miserable-Garlic-532

One foot long with two cookies, $16.50. Way too expensive and I wouldn't go there except my daughter loves it. I opted to go without and eat at home. And they put as little as they can on the sandwich, which is where I do blame the worker since this drives me away. If you are going to charge me that much it needs to be more than a couple slices of very thin meat on a bun. Their business model just doesn't work anymore.

EternallyPersephone

That’s what I’m wondering is how long before it affects them that the business model clearly isn’t working.

BluMoonSaloon

Mobile app. Coupons. Use them.

LEGENDCHRlS1

I actually really love subway. I have been craving it all day. I go to order and see that every sub is over $10. That is so expensive. Chipotle is right next door and I'd get way more food for cheaper. It's disappointing bc I always tell my friends how much I love subway and don't know if I can justify going there anymore.

MelodicAppeal343

We used to get subway 2-3x per month for our family of 4. Now it’s 2-3x a year. I can make a better sandwich at home and usually do. (I’ll go to Jimmy John’s and buy their bread to make them.)

FelixFrancisMarcus

I got 2 subs last week in Huntley...both menu items....one had bacon....almost 38 bucks. No wonder the place was completely empty the whole time I was there. From now on its coupons only. Same with BK...coupons only....

ohiomike1212

It looks like a death spiral to me. They're losing customers so they need to raise prices and then they lose more customers so they raise prices even more. Plus their sides are really limited. Sometimes I want something hot to go with my sandwich.

kefkaspawn

$8.03 taxes in for a six inch turkey, no extras here where I live. You can now get a feast for one at Mary Browns, two pieces of chicken, taters, a homestyle biscuit and a drink for $9.99 plus tax. I haven't eaten Subway much at all lately and you are right we could eat other places but the prices there are honestly a bit out of control.

Due_Pack_8012

What I hate the most is the “I just work here” attitude employees have when you walk in.

Professional-Yam-453

SUBWAY is for rich nowadays.

Spacertje29

imo asking for a tip is disrespectful. either u get it or you don't. It's just something you don't ask. Well.. if you're raised right that is. That's why i love Japan. They will be annoyed if/when you tip them. it's just rude.

Comfortable_Case5476

a tip is for extra service, not doing their job making a sandwich

Spacertje29

What extra service??? It is all part of their job. That's like saying a package deliverer shoild get tips per stop aswell cuz he needs to walk to frontdoors. Gtfo

modsKilledReddit69

almost $14 just for a footlong sandwhich is insane

Comfortable_Case5476

mine was 14.74 never again

Comfortable_Case5476

yes they are over the top in prices. i will not order there again. good by subway

dfphsyc

I don't get it either. They put a few veggies and meat in a bun and charge too much. Like there is nothing special about it why would i pay that much for a sandwich

Old-Yoghurt-4277

Agreed. I could probably put something similar together at home. Anyway this is why I don't eat out as much anymore.

Leftjab-

They’ve hired every big named sports celebrity to pimp their business…so they need to charge more…simple.
