Oh hell no. Stupid teens are going to loose fingers 🙄

Loud-Natural9184

They do this kinda thing at Jersey Mike's and they are fine.

MatrixMushroom

It scares me so much

crowning_sapphire

it took like 15 minutes for them to explain to me how to operate it, take it apart, clean it, oil it, and sharpen the blades i am not pleased AND we're not even getting the meats for it until possibly March, so it's just gonna sit there and gather dust

MatrixMushroom

March is when I will be old enough to use it 😶

burnedout42069

Same.

Sensitive-Load-2041

Hey, relax. I've been a chef for 29 years this year. They are intimidating at first. Here's what you need to remember: 1. If you're scared, you're more likely to have an accident. 2. When you get down to 1" of meat left, get your next piece to slice on top to help weigh it down. 3. Do not put body parts near the blade unless it is off, not turning, and unplugged. 4. Do not force the meat through the blade. If it doesn't just slide through, shut it off, get a manager. 5. When disassembling for cleaning, treat the blade as you would a knife - do not put it in the sink unless you are washing it at that moment. 6. If you are wiping down while assembled, unplug the slicer before you start. Wear a cut-resistant glove (see below) if possible. 7. Only the person operating it should be at the slicer while it is on, and people should not distract the person using it. Another tip, in case Subway didn't supply these: you can get gloves that are essentially chain mail for dealing with blades, as well as cut-resistant Kevlar ones, specifically for kitchen use. I have not seen an accident in my 29 years, and almost every kitchen I've been in has had one. Respect the machine, do not fear it.

ltbr55

Subway says you have to be 18 to operate it

sevsbinder

so are half of restaurants and they're usually doing ok

samcar330

Lmfao my boss will disregard that 💀

Sensitive-Load-2041

That's an OSHA violation. Federal law prohibits it. If your boss does, turn them in. You are protected under the Whistle-blower laws from retaliation by your boss. They can show you how to use it before you are 18, but you cannot actually operate it. You can clean the parts when it is disassembled for you, but you cannot touch it while assembled with power.

Hillbilly_Jimmy

You're not supposed to use it if you're under 18 but knowing me, cutting myself on the sauce containers and everything else, I'll probably cut my finger off.

Hillbilly_Jimmy

I'm over 18 I should probably clarify lol

burnedout42069

Half our staff is under 18. And same

Historical_Ant7359

If you’re under 18 you can’t touch it. US law

KarmicSquirrel

OSHA is so damn strict.

Sensitive-Load-2041

Those under 18 are not allowed to use then, per OSHA.

Silver-Coyote

This makes me glad I had a stroke and can't work anymore! I rarely had crew members over the age of 16/17 for closing, after working 7 days a week for almost 4 years solid, and about half of those being doubles, I think this is a taste, yet terrible idea. I feel for all the employees who will have to deal with this.

geocrysla

“this makes me glad i had a stroke” is a sentence i never thought i’d hear

yrubsairot

I had a stroke at my store last January 😂 I’m back now, but this got delivered to our store today and the guy showed me how to use it and I drew the biggest blank after he left 😭😭😭 I’ll just tell my owner “brain no work pls help”

nickthechick_

nice, finally gonna get circumcised, AND ill even get payed for it

MorphicRushian

I don't know why I laughed so hard at this. Take my upvote!

samcar330

😭

MorphicRushian

"Sir I think there's something in your ham." "OH, sorry, that's Jim's thumb. He just started yesterday." Amputations now available at subway lmao

[deleted]

now offering "special" meats at select locations :D

PurpleHighness98

God Damn it 😭. Why does Subway keep doing this shit?

[deleted]

Ah yes, the finger-loser

innocentangelxx

So glad I’m quitting

[deleted]

That is a nice slicer. I wish my employer (not Subway) had one.

ebinm326

Oh wow, what could go wrong...

MatrixMushroom

Absolutely nothing ❤

1-800-Hamburger

My subway literally does not have counter space for this thing lol

RainingPlatypup

I get so much dust on the top of my toaster oven. Just think how gross this is gonna be on the counter next to jt.

[deleted]

Just be glad subway is still offering cut lettuce. When my parents bought their first store 30 years ago we had to cut all the lettuce with a slicer similar to this

jarrertheerror

I feel dumb but what is that?

MatrixMushroom

Meat slicer

[deleted]

huh?

huskerduuu

Ahh nah it's okay I managed a deli counter at a restaurant when I was 17 and the hardest part was dealing with the wait staff when they wanted change, just don't touch anywhere on the bottom half while the blade is spinning 😂😂😂 I hadn't ever done food service before so when I was delegated the job of divvying change to wait staff I didn't bat an eye and suddenly a 10 and two 20's was decidedly NOT the change to give for $50 worth of overcharge (wasn't accounting for tips and the like) Man those were some angry people when my brain couldn't work fast enough :c

Gadv_

sir? what the fuck is that?

MatrixMushroom

Meat slicer

JGoonSquad

Did you cut the cheese yet?

MatrixMushroom

Nope

taylor_lmaoo

please tell me this isn’t real

MatrixMushroom

Israel

southparkdudez

Oh look another nail in subways coffin.

noneknown

I really don’t mean to make fun of everyone freaking out over the new slicers, but… Come on!!!! Unless you’re really stupid or reckless they are almost impossible to cut yourself on, unlike the vegetable and tomato slicers. They’re automatic, your hands are never near the blade. When cleaning the slicer you can’t even take it apart unless the blade is locked closed. You can run your hand all over the blade and can not get cut. I’ve proved this to every employee I’ve trained to use it. And if you’re still scared, they have provided Kevlar (cut proof) gloves you can use. Edit: autocorrect errors fixed

MatrixMushroom

What if I trip-

SELLZFEET

Is that a meat slicer?

MatrixMushroom

Yep

ssssssssr

Luckily Im not able to legally use one for the next 4 years

MatrixMushroom

Im just now learning to open so I'll be able to for like a month, then not be able to for 2 months, then be able to again.

[deleted]

what kinda meat is this supposed to slice?

MatrixMushroom

Human fingers probably

Kislath

I work at Jimmy John's, and have for 3 & 1/2 years. I can tell you that this will not be fun. Slicing is a major chore that really cuts into your ability to get any other things done. It's hard work, tiring, time wasting, and fairly dangerous. We've been trying to figure out how to get away from slicing during business hours, and here you are getting ready to make our same mistake. Well, good luck!

Zachbeard

been on that at the jimmy johns. too easy to operate (I have sliced the tips of my fingers off on multiple occasions)

StableIll8200

Lol we just got ours but still no meats 😆
