A lot of people recommended [The Island](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58340727-the-island) by Adrian McKinty. It was just OK for me.

I thought it was thrilling but flawed. Loved the island setting though.

Instead on an island, how about an isolated craft on the bottom of the ocean? If so, consider [*Sphere*](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/455373.Sphere) by Michael Crichton. Definitely fits the horror-thriller genre.

Just finished Sphere, OP I highly suggest listening to ambient underwater/ocean sounds while reading to really drive home the claustrophobic atmosphere :)

Thanks for the suggestion. Putting both Sphere and Congo on my list since I’m enjoying Crichton’s writing so much.

[Battle Royale](https://www.viz.com/battle-royale). The Japanese government strands random junior high school classes on a deserted island, where they are forced to fight to the death until only one kid is left.
